Ajax Arrowhawk |
If you're not going to honor the cestus, then my first attack would have been with a greatsword, as a I stated above, which was a 20 (has the same bonuses) as rolled, I'll roll damage if that hits
+1 Greatsword damage: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (1, 4) + 8 = 13
Ara goes off on the assassin on her right.
Bite vs (red) human: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (19) + 17 = 36
Damage: 1d4 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Claw vs (red) human: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (2) + 17 = 19
Damage: 1d2 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
Claw vs (red) human: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (13) + 17 = 30
Damage: 1d2 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
Trip: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (10) + 17 = 27 If this succeeds, then the claw attacks are at +4
Total damage with cestus attacks = 54. Total damage with greatsword 50.
Vrald Sehir |
The naked knight runs towards the sound of battle, securing his shield to his arm as he goes.
Move action to don shield, move action to move up and provide flanking against red.
AC for this battle will be.. 10+6 (shield and shield focus line) +2 (dex) +1 dodge. +1 for ring of protection (GM call on whether having that on in the bath is reasonable, but I don't take off my own ring so it doesn't sound unreasonable) probably AC 20. 21 at a stretch if you would accept a wayfinder on a neck-chain.
Sarnoc Blakros |
Sarnoc grabs Kallyan's hand, the two suddenly disappear and reappear behind Vrald.
Appearing behind Vrald, Sarnoc can't help but notice the knight's valor and a few other things as well.
Standard - Dimensional steps (40' total) - Dimensional steps does note provoke AOOs.
Judgement call by me, Sarnoc assumes Isonda would opt to stay in and fight, sorry if you would have preferred to teleport.
Isonda |
Isonda would also be unarmoured as she can't sleep in her mountain pattern, that would seriously be uncomfortable i think! So her AC will be 14 for now. Scratchings would also have had his saddle and barding removed as again i think that wouldn't be comfortable. His AC would now be 21.
Isonda gets up from her rest as the enemies make their surprise attack, she looks at her sword then down at her unarmoured form and decides that defense would best right now. She takes a moment to cast a defensive spell on herself.
Shield of Faith for +3 deflection bonus to AC. AC is now 17.
Scratchings follows Isonda guarding her from enemies.
Kallyan |
Kallyan is still confused when he starts getting attacked by all sides. The bard shakes, cowardly, but quickly develops a smile and a dark sense of humor.
Oh, wow, and you didn't even pay me a dinner before! Nasty, but sexy! - he says.
As Sarnoc teleports them behind Vrald, he gets ready. A seasoned Pathfinder, he shakes his hands preparing his usual routine. He starts by adding some protection to his frail body.
Concentration (Casting Defensively): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22
Mirror Image: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
He didn't have his shield at this point, but was used to keep adorning his light armor all the time, especially while on his important adventures. Next, he lets himself try a different strategy.
Kill them all, my allies. I had enough of these ambushes! Sarenrae shall guide your fury!
Start performing for Inspired Rage as a move action. Every round, any of my allies can choose to "lightly rage". On the rounds they do so, they gain Lesser Celestial Blood as well. Kallyan himself will opt for no rage this round.
As a level 4 skald:
Raging Song: Inspired Rage (Su) +2 At 1st level, affected allies gain a +2 morale bonus to Strength and Constitution and a +1 morale bonus on Will saving throws, but also take a –1 penalty to AC. While under the effects of inspired rage, allies other than the skald cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration. At 4th level and every 4 levels thereafter, the song's bonuses on Will saves increase by 1; the penalty to AC doesn't change. At 8th and 16th levels, the song's bonuses to Strength and Constitution increase by 2. (Unlike the barbarian's rage ability, those affected are not fatigued after the song ends.) If an ally has her own rage class ability (such as barbarian's rage, bloodrager's bloodrage, or skald's inspired rage), she may use the Strength, Constitution, and Will saving throw bonuses, as well as AC penalties, based on her own ability and level instead of those from the skald (still suffering no fatigue afterward). However, inspired rage does not allow the ally to activate abilities dependent on other rage class abilities, such as rage powers, blood casting, or bloodrager bloodlines; the ally must activate her own rage class ability in order to use these features.
Rage Power (Celestial Blood, Lesser) While raging, the barbarian's melee attacks are considered good-aligned weapons for the purpose of bypassing damage reduction. Furthermore, the barbarian deals an additional 1d6 points of damage when she damages an evil outsider with a melee attack.

@Kallyan: I'm going to have to say that, unless you have the Endurance feat, you don't have your armor on.
Ajax grabs his greatsword and quickly swats the white-coated assassin over the head with it, then Ara tears his guts open!
The third assassin, a nasty-looking sort more unkempt than the other two, slashes desperately at Ara.
+1 Short Sword vs Ara: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
It's an excellent strike - but Sarnoc's ward from earlier spares Ara's velvet pelt!

"How about picking on someone your own size? Even unarmoured I am twice the man you are."

Vrald Sehir |
Even if only the first one hits, as I think you only get the one attack if you move as TWF requires a full round action.
Vrald also actively turns down the savage song. He is all about defence. Especially when all but naked! In other situations he might take it though, especially in a close fight.
I'm DMing In Your Closet |
Even if only the first one hits, as I think you only get the one attack if you move as TWF requires a full round action.
Good point, but seriously? He can't even see now. I'm calling this fight a wrap.
We've got a few days (Terran, not Golarian) of downtime now, I think. I could use the break.
Vrald Sehir |
"Are any of them still alive?" asks Vrald.
"This would seem to be a little outside the expected rules of the contest."
Then, realising he is naked, and in the presence of ladies too, he, ahh, lowers his shield a bit and bids a hasty retreat from the scene of battle.
A few minutes later he emerges, sans armour.
"If we are to face such un-honourable opponents it would seem that a guard would be well advised. I would also suggest we investigate any survivors and see who they are and what interests they represent."
Isonda |
"I'll happily share what healing spells i have to get everyone back to fighting strength." she says while averting her eyes from Vrald's naked form as he retreats to his room.
"I hope the rest of the night is quieter, i'm certainly in need of a bath and a good nights sleep right about now!"
Isonda has a bunch of healing spells and she is happy to use them all up as needed.
Sarnoc Blakros |
Not this again! I'm a Blakros for heaven sake, can't an elf get some rest around here!
Sarnoc hadn't even settle back down yet from the last intrusion.
At least Vrald has his pants on this time!
Ajax Arrowhawk |
@Isonda, yes, I could use some healing. Down 43 hit points. Thanks.
If Sarnoc is going to memorize prestidigitation for the next day, I'll ask him to zap me clean. If not, Ara and Ajax will be forced to bathe given the blood and sewer play time. Obviously we'll ask someone to watch the door :)
Vrald Sehir |
Vrald steps forward, placing himself between the Tengu horde and his fellow pathfinders.
Maybe I should start wearing armour inside
His sword is quickly drawn as he prepares to defend his companions.
"I am lord Vrald Sehir, and I demand to know what is the meaning of this?"
Shel Whispertongue PFS |
Shel waited to see what the guards said. She obviously had a story ready to tell about the assassins, but she was tired, and if words could be saved and more sleep gotten, that was her plan.
I'm DMing In Your Closet |
After a very confident and well-executed initial barging-in, the Tengu now look bewildered, standing around awkwardly for a few seconds before one steps forward.
"I...apologize for the disturbance. I heard the sound of combat and sent for reinforcements."
The scuffle of Tengu feet into the room kicks up something else: a small brass coin, which Ajax had noticed while searching the bodies but mistaken for a button or something, the face of which is marked with a coiled asp, and its tail carved with the letters P.O.D..
This clinches it: The Aspis Consortium are playing dirty now. You feel your collective gorge rise, and look forward to paying them back with interest.
Having identified the Aspis Consortium as the party behind the assassination attempt, you all gain a +1 morale bonus to ALL rolls made versus Aspis agents or allies of the Consortium until the end of the event!
"Uh...goodnight," Says the Tengu liason sheepishly as he and his squad back out the door. "We'll just...guard the inn for the night, shall we?"
Ajax Arrowhawk |
After Isonda heals Ajax, he will examine his spells,
"Anyone have any suggestions for the opera? I always prepare a resist spell and cat's grace But having found that coin, I suspect more Aspis are in our future. Well, I have a spell for that.."
If no one makes any suggestions, Ajax will go with Feather Step and Enemy Insight along with his standard resist energy and cat's grace.
Shifty |
***OVERSEER ANNOUCEMENT***
The first rays of light creep into the inn’s window, accompanied by a loud knocking at the door. Someone in the hall screeches, “The sun is up! Time to gather your tickets and head to The Opera!”
***
Arriving at the opera, you are greeted by a trio of actors dressed in the garb and makeup of a traditional opera from Lung Wa. They seat you in the first few rows. Looking around you see a few others also in attendance. Strangely, there are no sets and the unlit stage is empty except for three plain wooden chairs. Then Kiang Zhen strides onto the stage and addresses the audience.
“Today I am treating myself to a display of opera, which all of you shall perform for me! Backstage, you shall find traditional costumes that will determine the roles you will portray. You may choose these roles yourself, but be forewarned - you must act within the limits of your role. Your objective is to perform an epic combat against a rival group. However, there must be no bloodshed. Any shows of lethal force will result in your immediate disqualification from the event. The troupe able to force its opponents to yield is the victor. Now go and prepare yourselves for the evening’s performance. It starts in 10 minutes!”
Kallyan |
What an incredible night, huh? - says Kallyan, still excited even after waking up, as if the fights were part of the dream he had.
The celebrity walks around the building with comfort. He was used to this kind of environment - owing a concert hall himself - and found the entire thing amusing, even if so awkward. He pushed his steps towards backstage to check on what the options would be.
Shel Whispertongue PFS |
"What in the blue hells does that mean? Are we all participating? I can barely hurt a fly if I'm not allowed to do lethal damage. This is going to be a problem, I think."
I'm DMing In Your Closet |
Oh boy, it's show business like Noh business!
You hurry backstage, where you find a trio of Aasimar attendants ready to help you with the elaborate costumes, and 8 unique costumes. Though the parts all have specific genders, those who act the part need not be the same gender.
2 Sheng (Leading Males):
- The General, who wears a long beard and fights with a wooden sword (1d8 nonlethal) and armor (the equivalent of splint mail).
- The Monkey King, an elaborately-masked acrobat and trickster with magical powers (hence whoever takes this role is permitted to cast spells).
2 Dan (Leading Females):
- The Warrior Woman, who wears full armor decorated with peacock feathers (again, the equivalent of splint armor), and fights with a dull-bladed polearm (again, 1d8 nonlethal).
- The Wizened Crone, who wears long robes, walks with a cane, and wields magic (another good role for mages).
2 Jing (Painted Faces, representing strong and forceful males):
- The Noble Warrior, who wears red face paint and full armor (again, like splint mail), and wields a large prop tetsubo (1d10 nonlethal).
- The Cruel Bandit, who wears blue face paint and wields a long knife of soft wood (1d4 nonlethal), specially balanced to enable nonlethal precision attacks.
and 2 Chou (Clowns): Chou are allowed to speak with the audience in order to make jokes at their opponents’ expense, and are also allowed to cast spells. Male Chou paint wide white circles around their eyes, while female Chou paint their faces red with black circles about the eyes. Clown costumes do not include weapons; however, Chou can carry and wield a broom or stick (treat as an improvised weapon dealing 1d6 nonlethal damage), claiming it to be whatever weapon they desire for the sake of comedic value.
Cast yourselves!
Ajax and Isonda, I'm pretty sure you are without your Companions for this one, since A) they might not be reliable about doing nonlethal damage, B) pets aren't normally allowed in theaters anyway, and C) none of the costumes fit them.
Magic-users, in case it wasn't clear, you cannot use your magic to deal lethal damage.
Ajax Arrowhawk |
Was thinking Ara could play a chou.
Ajax Arrowhawk |
Ajax was looking at chou as well since it is the only character that can cast and attack. If so, then Ara will have to sit out
EDIT: I'll just assume Ara is not going to participate and put my hat in for the other chou.
Shel Whispertongue PFS |
Shel starts painting up as The Cruel Bandit. "This knife looks like it has possibilities. I'm sure I've been called cruel by more than just a few, so I guess this does make some sort of sense."
Isonda |
"I somehow knew we wouldn't get to take in a performance when we came here."
Isonda seems disappointed, but that quickly changes when she sees the costumes on offer. She's especially interested in The Warrior Woman costume.
"Ooooh look at all those lovely pretty feathers on that armour! I would love to wear that!"
Would pre-fight spells be allowed for roles that aren't permitted to cast spells during the performance? Specifically i was thinking of doing a couple of castings of Barkskin to help beef up The Warrior Woman and The General.
Ajax Arrowhawk |
Ajax laughs at Isonda's observation, "Yes, I do not recall attending a social event with the Society that did not invite bruises about the neck and shoulders."
