Looks like a lot of fun, and I do love no-low magic classes...

I'm also quite interested in your tweaks to feats et al...

I've PbP'ed with Beylinda and Jax, and I know the XIII's havoc and cyra...

By all means give me a choice of pictures....

Okay, here's what I vote: I say that all the characters live in a world with fantasy races, but no magic and in a modern age. So, we'll still be in a game.

What do you think?

Here is my character. As soon as the setting is decided, I'll give you a backstory.

you can roll, or, you can use pt buy. If you rolled, you keep them even if you took an image.

Ack, I like all three images, but am torn between image 2 and image 3. I love image 2's costume and sense of sombre calm on the one hand (and I am drawn to strong female martial characters); and as I've been running around the house as an eye-patched pirate with my 3 y.o. son I've been wanting to try out a patch character...

What options are open to us -

* 3rd party stuff/homebrew?

* Piecemeal armor rules from Ultimate Combat? Both image 2 and 3 have armor pieces...

* If I were to go for image 3, does anyone know of a Drawback for being one-eyed?

I would like to see images for extra traits.

Same here, though I wish we had more selection

What do you think?

I would go with the Log Horizon, or SAO thought,

though both are different
In Log Horizon The players BECOME their avatar physically, *
In SAO (SOA Arc) the mind connected to the avatar only.
Log Horizon Spoiler (Very recent Light Novel) :
The players are becoming more like their characters, so those that cross-played found their voice slowly change and slowly their thoughts and actions as well.
The game is replacing or merging with reality.

If there is something you want to use from 3rd party, just post a link here, I don't have the cash to purchase anything, so PDFs of that nature are sadly out of the question right now :P. That aside either post it here or PM me.

piecemeal armor is fine though I would like to keep player homebrew to a minimum as it can unfortunately get out of hand (not in an OP way, just other ways) but if you have something you really wanna try PM me the idea and we can go over it.

I have been looking for a few really good pictures of guys using Greataxes, its amazing how hard they are to come by (unless they are dwarves! lol)

Here is the question, I assume that should we do the "playing a game within a game" idea, that there would be minimal to 0 interaction of your guys outside of the game, as much as it sounds cool to do, I don't think it would help things any :P also, if everyone can promise to help out and post at least once a day and to get along, I will ATTEMPT 10 players, I have run 13 before IRL, (man, I was POOPED after) but in PbP things -may- get convoluted. I offer this because I honestly haven't counted the interested parties, but I think we have 1-2 more than 6-7 I would take, and I would rather not cut one or even two people :3.

Good idea! That way, we can form rival guilds.

Mmm, methinks I like #1 the best.

Now to stat her up using my obscene rolls!

Also, if you dislike ALL of your 3 image choices, I might let you pick a different image. (or for instance, say one image you have seen really hit your creative spot and was not selected, I could see allowing you that image as it would be more fun for you.)

I'm going off of image 2. Question though, instead of taking the two traits, is it possible to use the 4 build points to increase a score that was rolled (example: I rolled a 13, adding 4 points to a 13 makes it a 15 or I rolled a 17, adding 4 points makes it 18)?

Image 2 is broken

@RHMG weird, its working fine for me. >.<

@Nox
sure go ahead!

Would you be willing to allow the oversized two weapon fighting feat?

havoc xiii wrote:

Oh that feat from Complete Adventure

oversized two weapon fighting:

OVERSIZED TWO-WEAPON FIGHTING
You are adept at wielding larger than normal weapons in your off hand.
Prerequisite: Str 13, Two-Weapon Fighting.
Benefit: When wielding a one-handed weapon in your off hand, you take penalties for fighting with two weapons as if you were wielding a light weapon in your off hand.
Special: A fighter may select Oversized Two-Weapon Fighting as one of his fighter bonus feats.

I believe the Fighter(Two-weapon) gets that ability (Improved Balance and Perfect Balance)

btw RHMG is the link working now?

also, I was going to give TWF this-
removes all penalties for fighting with two weapons. so, it makes it easier to "look cool" and be effective. size penalties and the like will still be taken.

Nope Still broken

I'm intrigued. Could I request some images to see if I can get those creative juices flowing?

I know the archetype gets it but not until level 11 which I think is a bit high but that's just me. I could use a short sword in the other hand but it doesn't seem as cool to use mismatching weapons and then randomly decide to match them half way through the game.

Alright, will actually get polearm grrrl statted up soon :P

Also everyone, I changed meh mindy. I want you all to start at level 5.

Havoc- TWF will remove all penalties of TWF, so you could use katana/katana without worry! (or what have you)

is RHMGs link broken for everyone else as well?

@GM
if you collected the images and put them into something like PhotoBucket
You would not need to worry about Links.
I as GM have used Photobucket for my games to hold maps, and character renders.

That and I can make character renders myself.

So if TWF will remove all penalties of TWF, then does Improved Balance and Perfect Balance given bonuses?

Alright, heads up: I want to get one of my friends, a rabid SAO fan, hooked onto Pathfinder. Would you be okay with her playing?

Anyways, I think I'm forgoing extra traits and will just do my insane huge weapons build :P

So another words, more starting gold, and everyone adds +1 to any stat of their choice.

Which Jax will put into Dex for an 18. Seems like everyone is going to be a bit powerful.

Also what do you mean you get skill slots every 2 levels? Are we changing the way feats work? Or do you mean the fighter bonus feats?

Also, I would take a picture if you have an elf I can use and if it does not affect what I can be or do. For example, Jax can't be a Paladin, it would not make sense for anyone who has seen him before for him to be one. This isn't to say Jax can't change his class, but certain ones wouldn't make sense to people who have meet him before. And he can't be anything other than an elf, otherwise he is a different person altogether.

GM_Rorek wrote:

Does this also include the Monks Flurry of Blows features? Also, not to rain on the dual wielding parade (I think duel wielding is cool) but doesn't that basically nerf classes that require you to have a free hand like duelist or freehand fighter?

Why would it nerf those? Just because they can use two doesn't mean they have to.

If your opponent has double your attacks and each of there attacks deals just as much as yours, wouldn't you feel a little useless by comparison? Especially since the dual-wielder has just as high of an AC.

I am going to change the way most combat feats work, just because 1. I want to try it out and see if it totally breaks things, 2. It gives me an easy way to create sword "skills". 3. this is a high powered game, where enemies will be strong as well.

as an aside, only the feats will be altered.

rundown of what I am thinking

-no spells
-no scrolls/wands/staves
- all class abilities not including actual spells will remain the same.
-classes such as paladin/ranger and others that have SOME spells will be given a feat every odd level after 4 in exchange for spells lost.
-if anyone wishes to play a cleric you will gain Full BaB and HD as well as a bonus feat every 4th level. (so, 4/8/12/16/20)
-most combat feats will require you to "slot them", or to use/activate them. Because of this most feats will be buffed.
-other feats will remain the same, I will list feats I have prepared later today or tomorrow morning.
-Skill slots will be gained at every 4 levels,(every time you would gain a feat normally) starting with 2 slots at 1 with an additional 1 received at 2 for and fighters.
- note this is pretty much playtesting all this, so things might be bumpy.

Well if you put it that way. :p

I'm honestly fine with taking the -2 to attack for using two weapons if I can still use two one handed weapons as if light I'll even take exotic two sided sword for it.

Edit

@GM_Rorek

You normally gain a feat every odd level.

@havoc, yes I know, I think I got distracted there, I don't remember what I was meaning to say but its gonna be 1 every 4 levels.

FEAT CHANGES- note, not all feats will be under the same as these, most feats will be left alone, but combat type feats are subject to change, please make sure I remember to get all the ones you wish to use.

Spoiler:

swapping skill slots is -, swift for 1, move for 2, standard for 3, and full round for 4.

power attack/deadly aim(note, PA or DA are gained for free, but you may only choose one for free)- reduce the penalty by 2. (so at level 1-11 there is no penalty)

TWF- reduces all twf penalties to -2/-2. (improved twf gives same benefits as normal, the extra attack plus an additional +2 for TWF, leaving you at a 0 modifier to hit.)

vital strike- increase weapons damage by x2. (all attacks)(higher ranks are iffy)

dodge- increase ac by +1 for every 4 levels, (dodge bonus)

shield focus- increase shield AC by +1 for every 4 levels

weapon focus- increase attack bonus by +1 for every 4 levels

Point blank shot- +1/+1 within 30ft, additional +1/+1 for every 4 levels.

Cleave- Attacks become AoE out too 5ft away from your main target.

improved will/reflexes/fort- +2, addtional +1 every 5 levels (maximum of +5 at 20)

Shield Master- gain +2 damage when bashing with shield.

this list is still under construction, If you have any ideas for other combat feats let me know! If not listed under this list, assume the feat functions as normal.

also, someone said they wanted to get there friend to play? BRING EM IN!!!!

Envoy's Alliance

improved init has +4 init. Are you changing that number?

Hmmm... the combat feat changes look amusing. Alright, I would like to give this a whirl. with the upgrades a shield focused paladin feels like an awesome combo, although an archery focused character could also be quite fun.
GM rorek could I get some pictures to use? Looks like its the thing to do today.

@GM - I'll go with the Tiefling guy with the eye-patch, thinking straight 5th level Fighter, TWF with a greatsword and a spiked gauntlet.

Some questions:

* Can I use a Small Greatsword in one hand?

* I'm not understanding your tweaks to Two Weapon fighting? Does it basically mean you don't have to have a light weapon in your off-hand?

* What do you mean Cleave become Area of Effect? It gets all foes in 5' range? ( this is exactly like a homebrew I'm working on.. )

* What exactly do Clerics have apart from d10 HD/Full BAB - Inquisition/Domain SLAs/animal companions? What about Druids? Witches?

* If I can get a d8 HD/ 3/4 BAB Witch with hexes and feats instead of spells/familiar then that sounds perfect for me... (I'm also homebrewing this concept as an alternate Witch class.)

* Fine with no 3PP or homebrewing for this character, but as mentioned above a tweaked Witch or Fighter/Witch would work.

[EDIT - actually, with the amount of hex-spamming Witches do, they probably aren't a good fit for this world...]

=================
Special Abilities
=================
Rage (18): A barbarian can call upon inner reserves of strength and ferocity, granting her additional combat prowess. Starting at 1st level, a barbarian can rage for a number of rounds per day equal to 4 + her Constitution modifier. At each level after 1st, she can rage for 2 additional rounds. Temporary increases to Constitution, such as those gained from rage and spells like bear's endurance, do not increase the total number of rounds that a barbarian can rage per day. A barbarian can enter rage as a free action. The total number of rounds of rage per day is renewed after resting for 8 hours, although these hours do not need to be consecutive. While in rage, a barbarian gains a +4 morale bonus to her Strength and Constitution, as well as a +2 morale bonus on Will saves. In addition, she takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class. The increase to Constitution grants the barbarian 2 hit points per Hit Dice, but these disappear when the rage ends and are not lost first like temporary hit points. While in rage, a barbarian cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration. A barbarian can end her rage as a free action and is fatigued after rage for a number of rounds equal to 2 times the number of rounds spent in the rage. A barbarian cannot enter a new rage while fatigued or exhausted but can otherwise enter rage multiple times during a single encounter or combat. If a barbarian falls unconscious, her rage immediately ends, placing her in peril of death.
Big Game Hunter: A titan mauler gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls and a +1 dodge bonus to AC in melee with creatures larger than themselves.
Jotungrip: At 2nd level, a titan mauler may choose to wield a two-handed weapon in one hand with a –2 penalty on attack rolls while doing so. The weapon must be appropriately sized for her, and it is treated as one-handed when determining the effect of Power Attack, Strength bonus to damage, and the like.
Massive Weapons: At 3rd level, a titan mauler becomes skilled in the use of massive weapons looted from her titanic foes. The attack roll penalty for using weapons too large for her size is reduced by 1, and this reduction increases by 1 for every three levels beyond 3rd (to a minimum of 0).
Powerful Blow: The barbarian gains a +1 bonus on a single damage roll. This bonus increases by +1 for every 4 levels the barbarian has attained. This power is used as a swift action before the roll to hit is made. This power can only be used once per rage.
Tiefling Variant Ability #16: You have over-sized limbs, allowing you to wield large-sized weapons without penalty.
Scaled Skin, Fire: The skin of these tieflings provides some energy resistance, but is also as hard as armor. Choose one of the following energy types: cold, electricity, or fire. A tiefling with this trait gains resistance 5 in the chosen energy type and also gains a +1 natural armor bonus to AC. This racial trait replaces fiendish resistance.
Vestigial Wings: Some tieflings possess a pair of undersized, withered, or stunted wings like a mockery of those of their fiendish forbearer. Sometimes these wings are leathery, like those of a bat. Other times they are covered with a scattering of black, red, or violet feathers. Rare manifestations can take even more bizarre forms. These wings do not provide the lift required for actual flight, but do have enough power to aid flight attained by some other method, and grant a +4 racial bonus on Fly skill checks. This racial trait replaces skilled.
Weapon Focus, Greatsword: You gain a +1 bonus on all attack rolls you make using the selected weapon.
Two-Weapon Fighting
Evade Reach: At 5th level, as a swift action, a titan mauler may choose one creature within her line of sight. Until the end of her turn, that target's reach is treated as if it were 5 feet shorter with respect to reaching the titan mauler, and this reduction increases by 5 feet for every five levels beyond 5th. This ability replaces improved uncanny dodge
Extra Rage Power: You gain an extra rage power.
Elemental Rage, Fire: While raging, all of the barbarian's melee attacks deal an additional 1d6 points of energy damage (acid, cold, electricity, or fire). The type is chosen when the barbarian begins her rage. A barbarian must have the lesser elemental rage power to select this rage power. A barbarian must be at least 8th level to select this rage power. Note that the barbarian can still use her lesser elemental rage power while using this rage power, but she must select a different energy type.

Traits
======
Superior Clutch: You gain a +1 trait bonus on damage rolls when using weapons intended for creatures of a larger size.
Axe to Grind: You gain a +1 trait bonus when attacking enemies only threatened by you.
Pride: You can't abide challenges to your dignity, authority, or honor. When someone threatens, accuses, or challenges you, you take a —2 penalty on Diplomacy checks and Sense Motive checks involving that creature until the creature apologizes to you.
Reactionary: You gain a +2 bonus to initiative checks.

unfortunately I have messed with the witch/alchemist classes much. druids will gain full HD, and there animal companion is the must choose option. As luckily there were beast tamers in SAO so they can fit! no spells though I will still let you wildshape.

cleave will be a 5ft AoE horizantal to the users facing.

assume you are O, your target is x the other two captial Xs will be hit by a cleave attack, the Is would not.

twf= base -2 for two weapon fighting period, wield two longswords-daggers for all I care. Improved twf reduces this penalty to 0 along with granting an extra attack.

I put forth another idea:

Have you ever heard of Dragon Drive? It was a kid's manga. The concept was, the VR video game that the characters were into was actually a training ground for the real thing. After the characters got really good at it, they got transported into a fantastical realm and were tasked to save it.

What do you guys think?

I'm more into the Log Horizon idea
followed by .Hack and SAO.

@GM_Rorek: I'm looking at going with a monk build. I know you modified two weapon fighting, would that same modification apply to flurry of blows as it increases i.e. starting out with the standard -2/-2, but at lvl 8 they remove the penalties just like using the improved two-weapon fighting.

Also, might I suggest making all of the combat maneuver abilities work similar to the lore warden ability Maneuver Mastery. That way, they can increase just like weapon focus?

OK thanks for the info...

I'm guessing you meant haven't messed with witch/alchemist...

* Well, the picture I chose didn't scream animal companion, so I'll stick with my Fighter concept unless you DO decide to look at Witches.

* Understood on the Cleave. Looks good!
