Give me only one, the one you want the most in the game right now...

1d10 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
1d10 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
1d10 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
1d10 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

I would ask for a character photo but I think im just going to roll with the idea ive got in mind.
Thinking either archer monk or grapple monk depending on my dice luck here.

Edit: jesus flapjacking christ. That is going to make for a swingy stat block.
And I just got the mental image of a dwarf hopping from tree to tree. Huh, so as a nod to the series do we want to try and stick with humans or is it anything goes on races?

No limit on races except core + aasimar.

Huh, cool stuff.
I would assume that consumable magic items outside of potions are off the table right now. Past that is there anything I need to know about item limitations?

No staves/robes/scrolls.. thats about it

Gimme a second to re-read the requirements and adjust accordingly. Do you think we can consolidate what the requirements are just for convenience's sake?

I'm still interested in participating.

Background:

Born to a middle class family of Japanese immigrants in America, Satoshi Wanatabe spent his childhood in the suburbs of Northern Virginia. If one were to describe him, it would be "quiet", but not to say that he was reclusive. He felt that people spoke too much but said little, and made a conscious effort to say as much as he could with as little words as possible.

Possessed of an innate strength even at a young age, his parents delighted in the fact that their son was a force to be reckoned with on the sports fields, particularly that of soccer and baseball. It was his talent that got him into a good university, as well as in the hospital when he suffered a broken leg scoring the final goal.

Between his physical therapy sessions, Satoshi discovered the world of Virtual Gaming, demonstrated to him by another one of the recovering patients. He took to it like a crane to water, delighted in the fact that he could run and jump in another world. Even when he was released and got back into his games, he still made time for the world where his body could do fantastic things, unrestrained and unfettered from the binding laws of reality.

He graduated at [William & Mary] with a major in Physical Therapy and went on to study post-grad at a physical therapy school, continuing to cram VR gaming into his schedule.

When Satoshi was selected for the beta test, he was honored to have been chosen and thrilled to see how much his body could take in this new environment. He never joined a guild, but partied with several players to accomplish legendary quests of epic and grand proportions, becoming a paragon of his class, [The Sword Saint].

Now that the game is open to the public, he cannot wait for what daring things await him in that fantastic world.

Class Abilities
Iaijutsu Strike (Ex):

A sword saint can perform a lightning quick iaijutsu strike against the target of his challenge to inflict devastating wounds while drawing his sword. After the sword saint has challenged a foe but before he has attacked the target of his challenge, he may choose to use his iaijutsu strike as a full-round action, making an attack roll with his weapon as normal. In order to use this ability, the sword saint’s weapon must be sheathed at the start of his turn. If he successfully hits his opponent with an iaijutsu strike, his attack deals an additional +1d6 points of damage. This bonus damage increases by an additional +1d6 at 3rd level and every two levels thereafter to a maximum of +10d6 damage at 19th level. Any extra damage as a result of a successful iaijutsu strike is not multiplied by a critical hit.

After making an iaijutsu strike, a sword saint takes a –4 penalty to his AC until his next turn, but his weapon is now drawn and he may continually to fight normally. Regardless of whether he hits his opponent with the iaijutsu strike, a sword saint cannot use this ability on the same foe more than once per day.

At 10th level, a sword saint learns to focus faster and is able to make an iaijutsu strike as a standard action, and the penalty to his AC is reduced to –2. This ability replaces a samurai’s mount.

Brutal Slash (Ex):

At 3rd level, a sword saint’s iaijutsu strike becomes even more deadly. If a sword saint threatens a critical hit with his iaijutsu strike, he adds a bonus equal to 1/2 his class level to the attack roll to confirm a critical hit.

This ability replaces mounted archer.

Terrifying Iaijutsu (Ex):

At 5th level, a sword saint’s iaijutsu strike devastates the morale of foes that witness it. When a sword saint successfully hits with an iaijutsu strike, all foes within 30 feet must succeed at a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 the sword saint’s class level + the sword saint’s Cha modifier) or become shaken for 1d4+1 rounds.

This ability replaces banner.

Order of the Shield Abilities

Cavaliers who join the order of the shield devote their lives to protecting the common folk, from the simple farmer to the honest craftsman. These cavaliers stand before the tide, protecting the innocent from roving marauders and hungry monsters.

Edicts: The cavalier must protect the lives and prosperity of the common folk, shielding them from the deprivations of those who would seek to cause them harm or exploit them. He must give charity when it is warranted and aid when needed. He must take no action that would cause harm or hardship to those who cannot defend themselves.

Challenge:

Whenever an order of the shield cavalier issues a challenge, he receives a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls made against the target of his challenge if the target makes an attack against a target other than the cavalier. This bonus lasts for 1 minute. The bonus increases by +1 for every four levels the cavalier possesses.

Skills: An order of the shield cavalier adds Heal (Wis) and Knowledge (local) (Int) to his list of class skills. Whenever an order of the shield cavalier uses the Heal skill on a creature other than himself, he receives a bonus on the check equal to 1/2 his cavalier level (minimum +1).

Order Abilities: A cavalier belonging to the order of the shield gains the following abilities as he increases in level.

Resolute (Ex):

At 2nd level, whenever the cavalier takes damage from a melee or ranged attack while wearing heavy armor, the cavalier can convert 1 point of lethal damage to 1 point of nonlethal damage. He can use this ability once each time he takes damage. This ability cannot be used to convert ability damage, ability drain, or energy damage to nonlethal damage. At 6th level, and every four levels thereafter, the amount of damage the cavalier can convert increases by 1.

My rapier

Sword drawn by Havoc.

Huh, defintely looks like it would fit the setting. Very cool.

Oh and another dwarf player, want to be long time rivals who punch each other in the face when given half a chance? My charisma is so low that I pretty much expect to be universally disliked by anyone I know.

Very nice ones, thanks... letting the imagination flow...

Yep that first picture for Corsario is awesome!!!! Looks like a Lineage II blade...

Why is everyone's password 10 characters long?!?! ;)

Dark Archive

This looks like potentially one of my favorite things! I just need to give making an app for this a try! I would much like it appears everyone else has done to receive random pictures.

With any luck ideally something in the vein of that Machinesmith class that was mentioned earlier since that looks really awesome.

While everyone whom applies with a full character and background will make it, that does not mean you all must work together, I wanted to try a completely open world. This means, do what you want with who you want. If you wanna PvP do so, but please be civil about it. If you all want to form into this unstoppable death machine, do so! we wont be starting for another weekish as I get things ready and prep myself for the GM hell I will be going through but it will be worth! lol. Note-Starting location will have a slight impact on what you will be doing immediately. Form "guilds" and/or "parties" within the discussion thread, assume you are communicating however you want In game. Be it "whisper messages" (standard actions) or party/"say" speak (free). Feel free to adlive locations with this part as most things I will be able to fit in without problem. (just... be reasonable!)

You can either make a character from an image I give you for 2 extra traits, or 4 extra Build points, or make one of your own using a 25pt build or focus foible. (one 18, one 8, roll 1d10+8 for the rest of your stats)

What are build points? Like from the ARG?

I think I would actually like to use the foible focus, just so I don't have to play with point-buy...

I believe he means 4 extra points for using a point buy for stats.

Hmm. I think I'll go with focus foible.

1d10 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
1d10 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
1d10 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
1d10 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

18, 14, 10, 9, 10, 8. Ouchy. Oh well. That's what you get for pulling interest. The code bites back.

Hey GM_Roar - any chance I could use this?

Dreadnaught - essentially an infantry (mountless) warcaptain Cavalier archetype...

Logging into Root Town: Mirridian Gates

Hrmmm... Would it be wise to set up a scheme for I.D.ing Whisper from normal speech? Because the normal scheme I've seen is bold being for IC speech, Italics for thoughts. Would a chatlog style work?
Otherwise it could be easy to mistake it for someone speaking to you and misunderstandings of where people are could occur.

Perhaps this:
(username)>(recipient) Hey, this is where text would go had I something to say.

<Eira> Meet me at Mirridian Gate.

How's that?

@GM - also, quite apart from the class question above...

Can I choose the kytonspawn variant heritage and would you care to choose me a different ability from the Variant Tiefling Abilities to replace the SLA?

I like that zero,

sure, give me a bit wolf.

Wouldn't all of the in-game chat go into the Discussion Tab?

I'm happy to have all discussion and comms in on thread... I'm easy either way...

Have all messages in the discussion thread? Not normal in character talking though right? Cause that'd be odd...

*shrug* I usually consider the discussion thread to be OOC. With this setting it is actually in character to send these messages, so I figured it would make more sense to keep the Whisper messages in the game play board.
Just using the discussion board could work for it as well though.

I meant have all comms that are in game in the gameplay thread. In-game chat between players would be in the Gameplay thread. ;)

Understand that I'm not familiar wirh SAO, dotHack etc so the terminology of "in game" and "in MMO game in PbP game" is confusing me. And possibly you.

I'm advocating less use of the discussion thread. IMHO, any out of game stuff can go in out of character coding and any rules discussions/GM questions/"I'm away camping for three months" stuff goes in the Discussion thread...

Liberty's Edge

First character proposals drafts :
Image 1, male with two big swords: A Barbarian TWF, but instead of "rage" based his abilities come from the player entering in the "zone".
Image 2, female without armor and using a Japanese sword: A ninja. Do ninja's abilities change? Is it a valid class?
What do you think is better in the idea you have for the game.

I think the best way would be have everything related to the game in the gameplay thread it just makes it easier. I don't really want to check back and forth for in character posts. Keep the discussion thread for actual out of character stuff.

Easier that way I think.

That's what I'm advocating Zero. Less shuffling between threads...

nono, discussion thread is only there for you guys to figure out how you want to know each other. its the little "player controlled" thing to keep you guys occupied whilst I prepare. Once the game begins in full all things will be kept in the game play thread.

ninja's are fine, as there abilities more than make up for there lack of hp and saves imo in this game haha.

I would advocate the ninja, as I think we have a barb or two already, but don't let me tell you what to play! remember, you have more fun, and readily play when you like your CHARACTER, not just the numbers. :P
