Baldwin the Merciful's: Treasure of Chimera Cove (ACG) (Inactive)

Game Master baldwin the merciful

Chimera Cove lies at the southern tip of a rocky and storm-swept cape projecting into the Inner Sea, in a no-man’s-land between the great nations of Cheliax and Andoran. The three islands sitting just off shore do little to block the sea’s relentless swells, but they do effectively anchor the persistent coastal fog, making local navigation perilous. The fishermen who settled this grim seashore decades ago have a knack for maneuvering their catboats to and from their spindly docks, but no merchant ships dare use the treacherous cove, even with a launch. Few outsiders find the settlement’s steady decline in recent years surprising, wondering only at why the place was ever founded.

Rena:

Defensive abilities none other than incredible movement speed with hit's jet. It does not have the ink cloud ablity that it's normal cousins have. You know it has 10 foot reach.

Everyone and fighting underwater:

Look at the Aquatic Terrain rules and Combat Adjustment Underwater Table

Ranged Attacks Underwater: Thrown weapons are ineffective underwater, even when launched from land. Attacks with other ranged weapons take a –2 penalty on attack rolls for every 5 feet of water they pass through, in addition to the normal penalties for range.

Attacks from Land: Characters swimming, floating, or treading water on the surface, or wading in water at least chest deep, have improved cover (+8 bonus to AC, +4 bonus on Reflex saves) from opponents on land. Land-bound opponents who have freedom of movement effects ignore this cover when making melee attacks against targets in the water. A completely submerged creature has total cover against opponents on land unless those opponents have freedom of movement effects. Magical effects are unaffected except for those that require attack rolls (which are treated like any other effects) and fire effects.

Fire: Nonmagical fire (including alchemist's fire) does not burn underwater. Spells or spell-like effects with the fire descriptor are ineffective underwater unless the caster makes a caster level check (DC 20 + spell level). If the check succeeds, the spell creates a bubble of steam instead of its usual fiery effect, but otherwise the spell works as described. A supernatural fire effect is ineffective underwater unless its description states otherwise. The surface of a body of water blocks line of effect for any fire spell. If the caster has made the caster level check to make the fire spell usable underwater, the surface still blocks the spell's line of effect.

Didn't realize we'd been in combat rounds. Could Rena have taken the extract? 7 min duration, so she would have been liberal with it. Also, does Mirror Image mean the thing would see 8 targets, meaning attacks would be randomized across 8? We'd all benefit from the images?

Male Stats: Init +5, AC 31,FF 27, T 16 fort +11, Ref +10, Will +12, 84/84 HP, perception +16, CMD 30, 40 grapple, 40 trip

Mirror image is a self only spell. Thus if it attacks you, it has to roll to see which of the 8 it tries to hit. It can still hit you, but it is unlikely.

Evil GM

If you want the extract that is fine. I'm simply putting speed behind the tactics. It's not like you have rounds to cast multiple buffs then go into combat.

Evil GM

Interesting tidbit: the creature has 8 tentacles, only one latched on to the ship, used its grab and constrict abilities to damage the ship. I'm not sure why the other 7 tentacles would have have -2 att and no AOO. I know the rule doesn't draw a distinction, I'll have to look at the FAQs

I'll just take the -20 CMB next time and take the grab and constrict condition without suffering the grappled condition penalty.

Bug Eater wrote:

Actually the TG ability lets a multi-limbed creature grapple and not take the grappled condition penalty. A multi-limb creature can attack multiple targets, it's just it takes the penalties, on those attacks. Nor can it make AOO.
