Davkas absorbs Chatterbeak back into his tattoos.
He looks to the warriors and waits to see if they will draw bows or ignore them.

Davkas Gellantara |

I can't see the birds on the map so I am not sure which square is not threatened
Davkas takes a 5ft step to an unthreatened space, grumpily stating, These are not worth a proper spell, please kill them.
He does mutter an incantation under his breath and points a finger at the avian that attacked him. Despite being a mere cantrip, his sorcerous blood and focused study of evocations made the spell glow with a power beyond what a normal mage could summon.
Cast Ray Of Frost, no save, Intense Spells, Bloodline Arcana: 1d3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 = 4

Stupid creatures. Still, they are in the way and will feel my wrath. Revhi steps forward and raises her holy symbol, and out from it blasts a burst a malevolent negative energy. The power swirls around and avoids her and her allies.

The entire deck is considered hazardous terrain, so no 5 ft steps. The decking is weathered and old, it creaks and groans with most steps. the area #2 within the dashed lines is weakened section that Markus pointed out with his pole. The ship is at an angle, the bow is higher than the quarterdeck.Tthere are four stairways (two going up to the bow and two going up to the quarterdeck.) There are is a door at the bow and at the quarterdeck between the stairs.
Where are you going from here?

![]() |

Marcus will continue moving slowly probing the deck for additional weak spots and make his way to the stairs on the quarterdeck. He will test the stairs with his pole, if all is good he will make his way to the top and look around for additional clues.
Take 20 perception for 32. Using 2nd wind ability 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4, 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 twice to heal up fully

Dinetta reaches into her satchel, which still looks like a book bag, and pulls out a grappling hook and 50' of rope.
Anyone thing they can find a solid point on the mast? Those birds might have collected something interesting.

![]() |

Attack(with grappling hook): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
The hook easily sails up (I assume) and catches around the past next to the crows nest.

Captain Colthyn Riggs |

The Captain looks wide-eyed and impressed that the little halfling was able to toss the grappling hook as far and accurately as she did. "Read that in book did ya?" He pauses, "Now be careful getting up there, no sense being foolish with risks, who knows what those treacherous birds have up there." He then moves towards Marcus and the quarterdeck, the deck protesting with it's creaks the entire time.

baldwin the merciful |

There is fallen and tangled rigging, splintered masts, broken beams, and rotten wood create a natural obstacle course. There is small stub of a mizzenmast (2A) remaining, it looks as if the post itself fell towards the quarterdeck crushing portions of that decking before falling into the sea.
This post did not snap due to weather, but was blasted by a lightning bolt.
Looking around the decking you can see the fragments of arrow and bolt heads, rings of broken armor, and quite a few deep claw gouges making it clear that there was a great battle on this ship. However, there is no signs of the crew or invaders. Although the four gryphs you've encountered could be carrion, you don't think they are behind this mystery.
The entire deck is treated as difficult terrain.
I know Marcus and the Captain are heading to the quarterdeck and Dinette is near the crows nest, but were are the others going?

baldwin the merciful |

The quarterdeck was once the heart of this unnamed ship of both defending and controlling the ship. There were two ruined ballistae mounted on swivels as well as an empty wheel location. The wheel is simply gone, presumably tossed into the sea. Both ballistae are ruined—one destroyed so completely it is virtually unrecognizable. The second is simply wrecked and points down toward the main mast, where the evidence of its last fired missile still resides in the mast.
There are signs of battle everywhere, but what is completely lacking is even a single bone or decomposed body.

![]() |

Marcus looks around and takes in the scene. Damn Captain, You ever seen anything like this Marcus says pointing out the claw marks and ballistas Even with those rats with wings, you'd think there would be at least some bones left
Marcus will do a 360 search of the quarterdeck, carefully probing ahead making his way to the set of stairs on the other side.

Davkas Gellantara |

Davkas raises an eyebrow at the halfling.
You would be on the beasts terms fighting on a rope. I will have a Ray of frost ready should the things attack you while climbing. But once in the nest I cannot help you.
Davkas does bring out Chatterbeak again, however this time the familiar remains firmly seated on his masters shoulder, the bird does comment ,"Not much of worth in a brids nest"
Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
That was not wind or stress. A magical lightning bolt did that

![]() |

Dinetta looks to the others.
Anyone else want to do the climbing? I am not well suited if there are unfriendly types up there.

![]() |

As soon as the captain and I finish up here, I will climb up

baldwin the merciful |

Jean makes his way up the rope and to the crows nest. As he latches on and tries to haul himself into the nest, he is attacked by the remaining bird.
bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9;damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
The bird then flies away.
Jean you can see the bony remains of a few dead rodents, and a small nest of debris. As you look through the pile you find.
gold: 3d8 ⇒ (6, 3, 7) = 16
silver: 4d8 ⇒ (2, 1, 3, 7) = 13
coppers: 5d8 ⇒ (5, 2, 6, 2, 6) = 21
There is also a broken carved belaying pin (no value) along with
and a small gold bracelet valued at: 2d100 ⇒ (85, 16) = 101

Captain Colthyn Riggs |

Marcus there really isn't much else to learn from the quarterdeck that hasn't already been disclosed. You can see there is a second stairway opposite the one that you took up.
The Captain looks over the scene, 'Well, if they're alive they have to be below deck...lets get moving." He heads to the opposite side stairs and walks down to the main deck.
Is anyone else doing anything?

![]() |

Very well, captain. I just want to be thorough Marcus will go in front of the captain continuing to probe for weak spots and wait for Jean to come down by the door leading below decks.

![]() |

Licking her lips, Dinetta looks up to the others.
Might as well lead. You giants will probably find some soft spot and fall through. Working with old tomes, one learns how to treat things with a light touch to avoid disturbing things which should not be disturbed.
Dinetta will lead up/down the stairs, carefully surveying things as she goes for traps or weak sections of the deck.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22

Davkas Gellantara |

Davkas waits for Jean-Phillipe to climb down.
Now that's hardly appropriate. The bird barley pecked you. Kindly come down and you can resume keeping us alive. Close confines are hardly my specialty Ser, Poulain
Davkas will keep to the back of the group. Hopefully with Jean Behind to prevent attacks from the rear.
Chatterbeak begins to pace along his Master's shoulders. The Bird was nervous...

![]() |

Marcus will follow close behind the resourceful librarian. Keeping a wary eye
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32

baldwin the merciful |

The Captain and Markus make there way back down to the main deck, while Jean climbs down from the crows nest. A quick look over the bow of the ship reveals signs of battle but again no corpse.
You can see there a door under the quarter deck and one under the bow of the ship. There is also remnants of a tarp covering the hold, there are several sets of claw marks around the hold opening. Peering into the hold which is a large space once used for excess cargo and bunking. It appears to have suffered from seawater damage but it's hard to tell from your point of view.
Which way are you heading?

![]() |

Dinetta points to the front.
Forward area first, then check the rear? Captain was probably in the back, but I think we should move from front to back.
Baring any disagreement, she will slowly and carefully make her way toward the front, checking for traps or other dangers as she goes.
Perception(looking for traps/dangers): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27 <-- add +1 for trap finding and +2 if favored terrain is applicable

![]() |

I will be right behind you Marcus says stowing his folding pole and getting his sansetukon ready. Marcus will aid the librarian looking for clues.
Perception/Aid Another: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14

Davkas Gellantara |

Davkas is happy to be second last in the order of March.
Down we go then. Those marks and that lightning bolt. If whatever removed the crew is below, we may have our work cut out. A third tier spell SHOULD put down most mundane threats. Be ready comrades.

baldwin the merciful |

"Whatcha see up there?" the captain's voice echos from the rear.
The battle seems to have been largely complete by this point. the ship's floor is sloped upward due to mount spearing this ship. The walls and ceiling are not as worn from the weather and salt. A couple of tables are intact, and the chairs still sit upright. There are several broken wine bottles and old tin tankards scattered on the floor. Evidence of dicing is present as you can see some ivory dice and coin littering the floor.
gold: 6d10 ⇒ (2, 2, 1, 2, 8, 8) = 23
silver: 3d12 ⇒ (3, 6, 6) = 15
copper: 4d15 ⇒ (7, 1, 14, 5) = 27
There is door at the back of the room that is slightly ajar.
Two unlocked hatches in the floor of this chamber.

![]() |

Dinetta calls back when she enters the room.
Deserted. Like they were dicing, and then just abandoned everything.
She will grab the money (I assume someone is keeping track of this as group treasure) and then move to check the door in the back.
