Another rude wake up for a player.

The dwarf quickly realizes these are not those same weak creatures from before. It is clear that this creature can distort is wispy shadowy stuff in way that provides him a reach attack (10ft reach).

"They fly!?" She exclaims loudly. Which, while informative, is probably not all that helpful.

Well...I have an idea on how to attack something that high....but other wise, we're in trouble if they stay airborne too much.

FYI when the Distorted Shadow attacked in the surprise round I rolled % to determine who it was going to attack, it came up attacking Duncan. But when I rolled the confirmed crit, the number readjusted and came up Fluer. I'm not sure why that sometimes happens but the attack was against Duncan.

Natural attacks crit on Nat 20. I'm not aware of a rule otherwise.

you know the creature attacking Faelyn is Shadow and the creature attacking Duncan is a Distorted Shadow. Both are undead and incorporeal. So they can only be harmed by another incorpeal creature, magic weapons, or creatures that strike as magic weapon, and spells, spell-like or super-natural abilities. It is immune to all non-magic attacks. Wevenw ehn hit by magic weapons or spells, it only takes half damage. Holy water can damage them. Force spells and effects work the best for full damage.

They damage with tuch and typically strength damage, they create spawn if an enemy is killed. They have channel resistance. They ahve undead traits and immunities.

The significant difference between the distorted shadow and the shadow is the 10 foot reach that the distorted shadow has.

Shadow Save: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 2 = 12

Distorted Shadow Save: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 2 = 12

Both shadows flee when Andrea channeled her holy energy.

Seeing how drained Duncan and Faelyn are, Andrea believes they should retreat. Get back to the main lighted areas! Duncan has been hurt badly!

Oh crap. Forgot about that, I was thinking I needed a silver weapon to hurt them. If I woulda remembered that I would have agreed to go out hunting them at all until I got a better magical weapon. All Lucrezia has is a dagger. :(

The group finds it is easier and closer to get to Faelyn's apartment, which you manage to do without further incident. Taking shelter at the wizard's residence, there is a folded note under the door.

Well, looks like we got schooled again. I think I got too big for my panties again and Duncan and Faelyn got hurt because of it. I need to think about things before I suggest going monster hunting.

The lantern bearer idea is good but the they really need to be small groups of 4. Make sure they have magical weapons, at least one for positive channeling (cleric or adept), and a spellcaster that can send out force type spells (magic missile) a simple magic missile wand helps.

Well our problem was that we started stomping around the dark alleys and making noise. If we stick to the well-lighted streets, then we can get to the Grotto no problem.

He nods to Shadow and then turns to Andrea. It is really past time for you to quite apologizing lady. This is not a safe city. It is not a safe world. We all chose to be here. I don't have a death wish, but nothing worth doing is done without risk. I always play the hand I am dealt and I play for keeps. Let's get our asses to the Grotto and have a little fun! Faelyn takes a quick look at the note and then grabs his bag.

The adrenaline begins to fade from the evenings work, when Duncan plops down in a comfy looking chair. He places his bastard sword next to the chair, "Wouln't 'ave an ale or mead would ye?'

I'll DMPC Duncan till he goes back tot he smithy and begins to work again.

Awwww..Poor Alphonse. Well, shall we crash here tonight or go through well-lighted streets to the Safehouse? I don't know if Lucrezia wants to head back to The Grotto or crash someplace else.

So, we have some time before Faelyn's big day, what should we do in the meantime? I will certainly pray for some healing magic and we can perhaps follow up on some leads such as the Sisters of Eiseth. I can also pray for summoning magic to use in the contest or even help strengthen Faelyn's beings.
