There is wisp of darkness that floats 10 feet in the air from Duncan (AJ15), it lashes out and it reaches towards the dwarf. There is a second slightly different shadowy wisp next to Lucrezia (AO14)

Surprise round:
1) Call a warning (Assuming she sees the problem)
"Look out! Critter directly ahead!" (Indicating the thing in AJ-15)
2) Cast 'Shield of faith'.
3)Take 5' step (To AK-17 if possible) to begin help flanking.

Surprise RD: Distorted Shadow
50% lower Fluer; 51 and higher Duncan: 1d100 ⇒ 6
The Distorted Shadow flying 10 feet over Duncan's head reaches down and touches the dwarf.
Touch Reach Att: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24;Str Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
To Confirm Crit.
Touch Reach Att: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15;Str Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Another rude wake up for a player.
The dwarf quickly realizes these are not those same weak creatures from before. It is clear that this creature can distort is wispy shadowy stuff in way that provides him a reach attack (10ft reach).
.Shadow. |
"They fly!?" She exclaims loudly. Which, while informative, is probably not all that helpful.
Well...I have an idea on how to attack something that high....but other wise, we're in trouble if they stay airborne too much.
Can't wait for the first full round on these things.

FYI when the Distorted Shadow attacked in the surprise round I rolled % to determine who it was going to attack, it came up attacking Duncan. But when I rolled the confirmed crit, the number readjusted and came up Fluer. I'm not sure why that sometimes happens but the attack was against Duncan.

Str damage can Crit?
Know-Religon: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Andrea attempts to turn the creatures once more. Perhaps it will work this time.
TurnUndead. Will save 17 or start to flee 1/5 used
Spells active:Light (1 hour)
Blessing of the Watch (6 hours) +1 Hit +1 Saves vs. Fear on everyone
Delay Poison (6 Hours) on Shadow and Orsin

Natural attacks crit on Nat 20. I'm not aware of a rule otherwise.
They damage with tuch and typically strength damage, they create spawn if an enemy is killed. They have channel resistance. They ahve undead traits and immunities.
The significant difference between the distorted shadow and the shadow is the 10 foot reach that the distorted shadow has.
Shadow Save: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 2 = 12
Distorted Shadow Save: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 2 = 12
Both shadows flee when Andrea channeled her holy energy.

Andrea quickly blurts out the information about the Shadows.Read under the spoilers
It actually worked! That is a surprise.
Seeing how drained Duncan and Faelyn are, Andrea believes they should retreat. Get back to the main lighted areas! Duncan has been hurt badly!
Lucrezia Villanova |
surprise round action: attack with her silver flail since they are right by us.
attack 1 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 +2 if flanking
damage 1 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
attack 2 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23 +2 if flanking
damage 2 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
confirm attack 2 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 +2 if flanking
If needed, Lurezia takes a step up towards the creature, attempting to flank it with Faelyn and swings her heavy flail at it.
Faelyn Sindrel |
Knowledge Planes: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (9) + 16 = 25
Can I cast without casting defensively or do I need to move?
Faelyn will 5 foot step if needed and available and cast vanish.
I am at work. I will run if everyone runs or cast haste if we stay.
Lucrezia Villanova |
Oh crap. Forgot about that, I was thinking I needed a silver weapon to hurt them. If I woulda remembered that I would have agreed to go out hunting them at all until I got a better magical weapon. All Lucrezia has is a dagger. :(
I will be shopping right after this.
baldwin the merciful |
Lucrezia's attack was did not damage the shadow before it fled.
Faelyn read Andrea's spoiler for your knowledge check.
Prior Knowledge Post to Andrea.
50 lower safehouse closer, 51 and up Faelyn's Flat is closer: 1d100 ⇒ 90
The group finds it is easier and closer to get to Faelyn's apartment, which you manage to do without further incident. Taking shelter at the wizard's residence, there is a folded note under the door.
baldwin the merciful |
Duncan Redhammer |
Duncan collaspes to the floor once they are in safety. His breathing is labored.
THAT.....hurt.
Orsino 'Orsin' Bessatte |
Orsin huffs, catching his breath. "Agreed, we could have all been killed back there, all too easily."
Orsin's gaze slowly moves across Faelyn's apartment, probably lingering on any books or documents that might be of interest.
Lucrezia Villanova |
"Yeah, no more doing that until we seriously prepare and gear up first. That is definitely not a spur of the moment thing to do."
Faelyn Sindrel |
Faelyn in a weakened state picks up the folded note on the floor. It would have been ugly if I had taken another touch of the shadow beast. I need to muster the strength to get to the Grotto.
Orsino 'Orsin' Bessatte |
"Are we sure that's wise. I don't think ANY of us should brave the darkness again, and especially not just two of us by themselves."
Orsin's voice is grim and insistent. Darkness nearly took me once, I'll be damned if I let it happen again...to any of us.
Heh, "damned."
Orsino 'Orsin' Bessatte |
Orsin sighs at Andrea's logic. "Fine," he replies curtly. "But we should all go. If the Grotto has gotten as dangerous as we think, it's better that we don't leave Faeyln unprotected, now that he's fallen in with us."
Duncan Redhammer |
Duncan stands his strength (Barely) returned.
If we need t'get there. Let's go. I ain't near me best but I am wit ye
Faelyn Sindrel |
Faelyn, holding the folded note in his hand, looks up at the elf. Things have been so crazy that I have not offered a proper introduction. I am Faelyn Sindrel. He nods to Shadow and then turns to Andrea. It is really past time for you to quite apologizing lady. This is not a safe city. It is not a safe world. We all chose to be here. I don't have a death wish, but nothing worth doing is done without risk. I always play the hand I am dealt and I play for keeps. Let's get our asses to the Grotto and have a little fun! Faelyn takes a quick look at the note and then grabs his bag.
Faelyn Sindrel |
When I get through with Alphonse at the card table, I will be on his shit list too. Faelyn laughs to himself at the thought of Alphonse sweating at the table trying to figure out if he is bluffing. And I agree Andrea. It is time for us to be more prepared. I am glad I am fighting alongside you though.
Lucrezia Villanova |
"We should just assume there will be some trouble after the game if Faelyn makes a fool out of Alphonse at the table."
The next day, Lucrezia will stop by Grumm's Smithy and see if he has any magical weapons on hand for sale. She really wants to find one before that night.
Andrea1 |
Awwww..Poor Alphonse. Well, shall we crash here tonight or go through well-lighted streets to the Safehouse? I don't know if Lucrezia wants to head back to The Grotto or crash someplace else.
So, we have some time before Faelyn's big day, what should we do in the meantime? I will certainly pray for some healing magic and we can perhaps follow up on some leads such as the Sisters of Eiseth. I can also pray for summoning magic to use in the contest or even help strengthen Faelyn's beings.
