Brok Nunnelnoggin |
Brok shoots at a dire rat before they close.
shortbow: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 (deadly aim)
damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Komm the "Grandfather" |
Brok's shot flies wide of its mark, impacting upon the doorframe.
The rats, maddened by starvation, crowd the doorway and eagerly try to devour the fetchling...
Dire Rat #1 Bite vs Keil: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20; hitting for damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1 plus Keil needs to make a Fort save.

Dire Rat #4 Bite vs Keil: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 miss
...one of the rats manage to nick the fetchling's flesh. Keil's Shadow Blending is negated by the rat's Scent.
Praetor's spell snatches one of the rats...
Will save DC 19: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
...which ceases its attempts to attack.
Ranufufus smiles eagerly at the thought of living flesh, even if it be the rat variety, and surges to attack...Ranulfus will act at the end of the round.
Round 1: Brok, Grezzor, Keil, Rats, Vargrenz, Praetor, Arlok, Ranulfus.
Keil |
Round 2
"Nraah!" Keil snarls at the rodent before shaking it off, "No meat on these Godling." The fetchling slashes his blades down upon the starving pest slashing red icor across the floor.
From beneath his mask, Keil's yellow eyes twinkle viciously as the shadowy man steps back to admit more muscle into the fray.

Brok Nunnelnoggin |
Brok aims this time, but not very carefully.
shortbow: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 (deadly aim, precise shot)
damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Komm the "Grandfather" |
Arlok easily decapitates one of the rats while Vargrenz takes a defensive position behind the others.
Ranulfus' arrival on the scene has a devastating impact on the rats as the stench washes over them...Of the 12 rats remaining, 7 of them are Sickened (handwaving the saves here). As the ghast feeds upon the fresh corpses of the slain rats the other rats immediately break from the fray fleeing from the undead horror, one of them falling to Keil's blade.
11 rats are still alive.
Round 2: Brok, Grezzor, Keil, Rats, Vargrenz, Praetor, Arlok, Ranulfus.
Grezzor |
Apologies for the delay - took a while to get back on track after my trip ;)
Grezzor takes another freezing shot at the closest rat - "Mindless, foolish critters" - he smiles as Ranulfus makes short work of them.
Ray of Frost: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Damage if it hits: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Brok Nunnelnoggin |
If Ghastie seems to have it covered, Brok will hold his fire and stop wasting arrows.
Grezzor |
After the confrontation becomes one sided, Grezzor focuses his attention in the corridor with the remaining doors, to make sure they have not drawn unwanted attention.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Keil |
Round "Rats Fleeing"
With the rat's slaughter almost assured, the fetchling's glowing eyes take on a frenzied gaze. Keil presses on with his attack, slashing any of the rodents he can get close to and sending bits of flesh flying onto walls and ceiling.
MWK Att: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

Komm the "Grandfather" |
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
As Ranulfus continues to go after the remaining rats, they squeal loudly in terror as they try to escape, two of them falling quickly to Keil's blades. (9 rats are still alive).
Grezzor, taking a position guarding the corridor from any surprises, notes someone at the very edge of his vision is moving towards the party rather quickly from the western corridor...
We are currently at Round 4. Please declare your actions.
Brok Nunnelnoggin |
Brok heeds Grezzor's warning and readies an arrow to shoot at whomeever shows up.
He's panicky, so he just shoots anything that shows up.
readied shortbow: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 (deadly aim)
readied shortbow damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Keil |
Round 4
"Draw it to the end of the hall." The shadowy man's raspy voice exhorts over that of the godlin's, counseling the others to entice the new arrival past the door. Turning back to the carnage unfolding within the room, Keil signals the ghast with a wave of one of his swords, "Ranulfus, an entree approaches. Those morsels can wait." Sliding to the other side of the doorway, Keil prepares to ambush the new comer as it passes.

Damage: 1d6 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + (1, 6) = 10
RA Sneak attack | 29/30 HP remain | Shadow Blending 50% miss...
Praetor Grey |
Damn! I missed a lot. I must have accidentally turned notifications off. I checked this game now because it seemed strange that there hadn't been any new posts in a while.
Grey walked forward with the group, keeping the Ghast in sight. "Enough. Let the other rats run." he said to the Ghast. At Keil's words, the with doctor made ready to put whatever it was to sleep.
Komm the "Grandfather" |
As the rest of you hastily prepare for the arrival of the newcomer, it does not take long to discern his nature...a tall broad shouldered human nearly rivaling Arlok in size and bulk, dressed in little more than hides and a loincloth...not to mention his intent...which judging by the large club raised up is to pound someone into a bloody pulp.
He charges at the nearest target who happens to be Vargrenz...
Greatclub, Charge: 1d20 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 16 + 2 = 32; damage: 1d10 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24 Vargrenz takes 24 points points of damage. Keep in mind since he won initiative he did not trigger any readied actions.
...While few enemies ares able to penetrate the duergar's defenses, Vargrenz finds one who can...driving past his defenses by virtue of sheer brutal strength, crushing bone and sinew painfully.
Round 5: Enemy, Everyone
Grezzor |
I think Grezzor's action should perhaps be delayed instead of a ready action? It should go off anyway, since he never got to act in round 4? If yes:
Ray of Frost: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Damage if it hits: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
--Round 5--
Taking note of the brute attacking Vargrenz, Grezzor decides to delay his actions again, waiting for Vargrenz and Arlok.
I intend to cast Grease under the guy attacking Vargrenz, but will wait until Varg (maybe he goes for a grab?) and Arlok has acted.
Brok Nunnelnoggin |
readied shortbow: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 (deadly aim)
readied shortbow damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Praetor Grey |
I'm deliberately going last so that no one else's attacks accidentally wake this guy up if I manage to put him to sleep.
Grey gestured towards the brute.
Slumber Hex, DC 19
Vargrenz |
OUCH!!!!!
Knowing that he cannot withstand another blow like he just did, Varg steps in toward the towering humanoid and attempts to grab onto his arms so that he cannot again swing his painful club.
Grapple: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 <-- Improved Grapple, no AoO
Komm the "Grandfather" |
Grezzor's freezing ray easily strikes the human's arm, causing a ptch of frostbite to appear there (The human takes 4 points of Frost damage). Brok's arrow draws blood and Arlok returns the favor as well, his own return stroke digging deep into the man's side...followed by Keil's blade. (The human takes 36 points of damage; Total is 40 points of Damage).
Praetor gestures to the man, sending his wave of eldritch magic towards him...which washes over him without any effect! (Immune to Mind Affecting effects.)
Vargrenz manages to barely grab the large human in his arms. (Both Vargrenz and the human are now Grappled).
The large man, unaccustomed to being grabbed, attempts to break free...
Combat Maneuver (Break Grapple): 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 14 + 2 = 26 Success, the man is no longer Grappled).
Round 6: Enemy, Everyone.
Praetor Grey |
Grey glared from behind his mask. He snapped his hand forward like he was cracking a whip.
Limp Lash. No save.
Str Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Dex Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Con Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
"Brok, Tanglefoot bag."
Grezzor |
I think you need a ranged touch attack Grey :P
Komm, I still haven't acted on round 5, I delayed until after everyone. If the 'bad guy' is not grappled at the end of the round, Grezzor casts Grease under his feet, so as not to affect anyone else in his group. Reflex Save DC 15.
Brok Nunnelnoggin |
"Woohoo!!!! Get 'em Vargrenz!!!" Brok chirps as he looses another arrow at the madman.
readied shortbow: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 (deadly aim)
readied shortbow damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Keil |
Round 6 - So Round 4 was basically just movement??
With the big men otherwise engaged, Keil slips in for another strike. Shifting in the shadowy man gleefully finds another soft spot and sends both of his blades plunging into the clubbed attacker's side.
MWK Short Sword Attack (sneak attack)+flanking: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 8 + 2 = 26
Short Sword Attack (sneak attack)+flanking: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 7 + 2 = 26
MWK Damage+Sneak+ Off hand: 1d6 + 2d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + (6, 3) + (2) = 16
SA Two Weapon Fighting | 29/30 HP remain | Shadow Blending 50% miss...
Vargrenz |
Seeing the man attempting to regain his footing, Varg again attempts to grab onto him, now having the added advantage of being above him.
Grapple: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17 <-- enemy is at -4 on AC & CMD for being prone ("penalties to AC also apply to CMD")
--> probably not enough
Komm the "Grandfather" |
Praetor wraps the spectral rope around the prone man's neck, while Keil and Brok further wound the savage man. Arlok puts the finishing touches upon the man with a devastating blow sending the barbarian sprawling. (The human takes 49 points of damage, along with the Lash damage, and is Unconscious and Dying).
You all look for any signs of reinforcements, but whoever this man is, he seemed to be alone.
COMBAT OVER.
Keil |
Sheathing his swords, the shadowy man reaches into the folds of his tattered cloak to retrieve his rope. Kicking the man's weapon free from his hand, Keil begins to bind the savage tightly in preparation for interrogation. Only once the fetchling is satisfied that the bonds of his handy work are secure does he begin the process of stabilizing this combatant, "He may yet be of use to us."
Brok Nunnelnoggin |
Brok is puzzled by why Keil wants to nurse dinner back to health, but to each his own.
He searches the barbarian for valuables.
perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (12) + 16 = 28
Komm the "Grandfather" |
The goblin takes advantage to search the unconscious form of the man, and quickly discovers he is carrying little of value. His hide armor and loincloth are both filthy and infested with fleas, while the rat tooth necklace he wears is basically worthless. Of more interest is the iron key discovered in a pouch and, of course, his weapon...a finely crafted greatclub.
Keil: I will need a Heal check from you to Stabilize the man.
Grezzor |
"How would he have survived in here?" - Grezzor puzzles when he notices the man has no gear, or provisions of any kind - "Perhaps he has a camp somewhere in the complex.."
Brok to Grezzor: "Check key and club to see if magic?"
His thoughts interrupted, the goblin pauses mid sentence to dedicate himself to this task - "Yes" - he replies, summoning Arcane Magic to analyze the retrieved items.
Detect Magic.
Keil |
The shadowy man nods in agreement with Grezzor's immediate questions, "A start."
Keil snickers, "Live? Heh, only long enough to tell us what we need to know."
