Kira's sword is deflected by the wooden balustrade. But Ghroth's tongue isn't, and the tiefling is knocked down.
T1 down, so no shot from him.
Booam charges up to attack the demon from behind. His axe bounces off its shoulder, which spurts green blood that stinks of sulphur.
Maybe not all that disappointing.
Mulluq, Kira, Jod.

Mulluq'Tar Sheptat |

Mulluq takes a single step to the side, not that it was necessary, but just wanted to hem the creature in on all sides. The step undid him, as he slipped slightly on the green blood just spilled, Radiance flailing wildly instead of skillfully. Trying to recover at least to some extent, he tries to follow up with a bite, which comes off as a weak nip.

Kira decides that felling the demon is the more important than the combatants on the stairs, and so she pivots and swings....

EDIT: Oops. I forgot Jod. Hold this action in reserve for the moment.
I'm all about the new Kira. She's on fire!
Rather than wait till Thursday, I'll post for Kaygan this round.
Kaygan walks straight ahead while drawing his wand and fires off a bolt of energy at one of the tiefling snipers.
Move to O8.
Wand of Magic Missile vs T2: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
28 charges remaining. If Kaygan can't actually see his target from there he can get to K8 or L9 for clearer line of sight.

Kira Valerious |

All that time, all those shots, wasted on her crossbow...
Looks like she's found her combat calling.
Yeah, the damage on that when it's hitting evil outsiders is crazy.... could by why her WBL is curently about 2 steps higher than the table says it should be ;) Y'all'll catch up.

Jod Eastwind |

From his position, I believe Jod can just reach the steps just below the lower tiefling on the stairs.
Seeing the demons all dealt with, Jod moves directly toward the other threat. Wishing he had his familiar blade in hand, he figures he can still get their attention with recently-acquired mace.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Damage w/ Power Attack: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

Sol. Ghroth, Rhok.
When I saw this originally, I thought it sounded like some sort of indie hipster music genre. "Yeah, well, I only listen to Folk Metal, Alternative Thrash Jazz, and Soul Ghroth Rock."

!

Jod Eastwind |

When Rhok's turn comes, he will reach down and gather up the bow that Jod dropped in his haste to reach the melee. Otherwise he will remain where he is, cold iron short spear in one hand, the once-dropped bow in the other.
Wendaug will ready an action if something attempts to come up behind the party, focusing her attention on the door to the south. If she sees a defender approaching, she will let the others know quietly before letting him know pointedly that he's been seen.
Ghroth and Hannik

Ghroth |

Ghroth lopes over to the side backing up and breaks into a run that ends with a flying leap at the banister, gripping it like some kind of demonic tree frog and spears his barbed tongue through the bars at the last tiefling.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 Backs up to the side and then runs to N8. Grips on the bannister 4' off of ground level
Slam, PA: 1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 6 - 1 = 18
Damage, PA: 1d8 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 2 = 9

Hannik |

Hannik finally sees some room to move and rushes in swinging around to take aim at the tiefling with her crossbow.
Move to L9.
Lt Crossbow, PB, Precise Shot: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 1 = 25
Lt Crossbow, PB, Precise Shot, Crit?: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 1 = 25
Crit Damage, PB, Cold Iron: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (3, 5) + 2 = 10

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

Mulluq'Tar Sheptat |

Booam takes Jod's lead and makes his way up the stairs, expecting more enemies to be coming.
With a single move, he can get to AN7, but still has a standard. What does he see?
Mulluq is hot on his heels, also pushing the offensive to the upper floor.
Double-move to AN8 (if it's a valid space).

![]() |

Kira takes a moment to get her breath back, and wipes her new sword clean.
"This blade holds much power. If I fall, ensure it does not fall into enemy hands. Is anyone hurt?"
"Yeah. This healing wand still has a few charges left."
Sol looks hard at Mulluq, who's proven to be silent when he is hurt.

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

Before we get to Kira and Jod...
Booam get to the top of the stairs. There he finds a host of defenders waiting and ready. Crossbow bolts whistle towards him and polearms reach out to impale him.
OK, Booam is taking a load of readied actions. Fortunately he's reasonably tough, plus he gets some cover from the top of the stairs. The T's are tieflings, the C are cultists (equipped much like the others you have met with glaives), the F's are giant demonic flies (as nasty as those sound), and the Sch is a schir demon, like the goaty thing you met in the basement of Estrod's tower. The T's fire their crossbows, the two Cs at the front attack with glaives, and the schir attacks with its halberd.
T2 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 3 - 2 = 7 to hit, damage 1d8 ⇒ 2
T3 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 to hit, damage 1d8 ⇒ 2
C1 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 5 - 2 = 17 to hit, damage 2d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 1) + 3 = 5
C2 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 to hit, damage 2d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 2) + 3 = 6
Schir 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 10 - 2 = 13 to hit, damage 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Booam still has a standard action left before Mulluq comes stomping up the stairs. Note that Mulluq will see what happens to Booam and will be able to guess he'll take a few AoOs if he takes that position up there, so he can amend his action if he chooses after Booam's action (though knowing Mulluq, he probably won't).
Tieflings 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Cultists 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19

Jod Eastwind |

Because of his equipment upgrade, Booam takes no damage as none of the readied attacks hit him. (His AC with his new suit of chainmail is 20. For update purposes, he is at full 29 hp currently.)
With a roar, he takes a mighty swing at the schir as soon as he spots it.
Power Attack w/ Furious Focus: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 9 - 2 = 18 Assuming Booam has the same -2 to the attack that the schir had against him.
Damage: 1d12 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 3 = 15 I really hope that hit.
After Kira's turn, assuming Mulluq maintains his original plan
Hearing the mongrelfolk's bellow and the sounds of battle once more, Jod hurries up the stairs, just behind the tiefling paladin. Ducking and weaving as he comes past the holy warrior, he attacks the first enemy he sees - the glaive-wielding cultists. Specifically, move to AO/8 and attack C1
Still using the masterwork cold iron heavy mace two-handed: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 8 - 1 = 9 Power attack
Damage: 1d8 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 3 = 12 Ah, boo.

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

Hmm, I always assumed that when you ready an action it changes your position on the initiative chart. Then someone told me it didn't. I've now just checked, and it does. So no, they don't get to act (well one of the tieflings does, and two of the cultists do, and the flies didn't do anything anyway). So I will have to rejig the initiative chart. Bottom line - some of them go before Jod and Kira (see below).
Regarding the stair void (staring into the void?) there is a wall in the way (otherwise they would have been shooting at you sooner) so you cannot target them from the stairs, making it a more effective choke point.

Mulluq'Tar Sheptat |

This may come as a shock, but I'm going to go against Mulluq's normal inclinations and stay right at the front ready to absorb all the abus... Wait.... What? Okay, I'm getting reports that it is exactly what he would do. Nevemind then, Mulluq will keep his action. ;)

Kira Valerious |

Kira will double move to AO8, which I think will give the Schir an AoO...
Hearing the noise above Kira sighs and readies her new sword for combat as she does so. A brief look at the room and she leaves Mulluq to handle the demon while she quells the cultists.

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

Right, relax everyone! We've got flies and cultists and a tiefling to go first.
Mulluq provokes an AoO from the schir and from cultists 1 and 2.
C1 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 to hit, damage 2d4 + 3 ⇒ (2, 4) + 3 = 9
C2 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 to hit, damage 2d4 + 3 ⇒ (2, 3) + 3 = 8
Schir 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 to hit, damage 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Ouchie. I think the schir missed (just) but C1 is a potential crit.
C1 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 to hit, damage 2d4 + 3 ⇒ (4, 1) + 3 = 8
The tiefling in the corner of the room opens the door and then flees, seemingly as scared of what is behind the door as the adventurers coming up the stairs.
T1 opens the door and moves.
The cultists, meanwhile, chant spells to confound their enemies and bolter their allies.
C3 casts Bless, which affects all of the enemies upstairs (except what lurks behind the now-opened door). C4 casts Bane which affects Jod, Mulluq and Booam - Will save DC 13 or you suffer a -1 penalty to attack rolls and saves v fear effects (this is itself a mind-affecting fear effect, if that makes a difference for saves and so on).
The flies swoop to the attack.
All three flies attack Mulluq. Note that F3 provokes an AoO from Mulluq.
F1 bite 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 1 = 13 to hit, damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
F2 bite 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 1 = 18 to hit, damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
F3 bite 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10 to hit, damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
OK, that updates the map a bit, so Kira and Jod can redo their actions if they wish.

Jod Eastwind |

Will DC 13: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 Unaffected by bane
Jod will act as posted, probably soaking up an AoO or two for Kira if she follows suit. His attacked missed, I'm sure, even with him escaping the penalty.
Booam's Will DC 13: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 -1 from bane

Mulluq'Tar Sheptat |

Forgot to update for my new Shield, so my AC was one higher than written. Only the crit threat hit. :)
I would say Jod and Booam get my Fear Aura bonus, but the +4 doesn't change either of their results.
Mulluq takes on the brunt of most of the attacks, and wouldn't have it any other way. He almost seems happy to have been the one they all hit. Nonetheless, he is thankful for the defenses he wears, saying a prayer to Iomedae for blessing them with finding the gear before the fight. As the attacks come in, he stands resolute, even in the face of the magical fear which has no power over his faith in The Inheritor. He is so buoyed by it that he deftly strikes out at the hideous demon fly that leaves itself open.
AoO on F3 w/Radiance 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24, damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Speaking of demon flies, Knowledge Planes? 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

Mulluq's sword hacks into the fly with a meaty thud. Its disturbingly human face grimaces and blue fluid drips from the wound, but it stays in flight. As Kira makes her dash up the stairs all three demonic vermin dive to bite at her.
OK, per the initiative Kira goes first rather than Jod, and nobody said they were going to delay, so Kira will take three AoOs from the flies.
F1 bite 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 1 = 23 to hit, damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
F2 bite 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 = 12 to hit, damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
F3 bite 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 1 = 16 to hit, damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
OK, looks like one hit.
Jod takes his place beside her as they try to force the cultists back.
Putting Jod in AO9 since Kira got to AO8 first. Kira still needs to roll her attack.
Kaygan, Sol, Ghroth, Rhok.

Kaygan Veer |

Kaygan hurries around to the base of the stairs. Looking up, he see's Booam apparently fending off blows and hears the clashing of weapons, chanting, grunts, cries and some sort of buzzing sound.
Hesitantly, he makes his way slowly partway up the stairway.
Move to AK 7. Sol.

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

Speaking of demon flies, Knowledge Planes? 1d20+8
Sorry, failed to notice this before. They are 'ordinary' giant vermin mutated by the abyssal energies of the Worldwound, rather than being demons as such. That said, effects that specifically hurt or hinder demons (with the likely exception of dismissal-type effects, since they are native to this plane) will probably work on them too.

Kira Valerious |

Putting Jod in AO9 since Kira got to AO8 first. Kira still needs to roll her attack.
By my working, she doesn't get one, she had to double move to get there. Them's the breaks.
