male Mul Fighter 4 EXP 3873

I have no idea.

Furio, resolved to a short, harsh life and the soon to come bleeding out into the sand end of it all, tries one more time to smack the half giant.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

damage
2d6 + 5 ⇒ (5, 1) + 5 = 11

I'm just hoping to overwhelm.....whatever this is.....spell/ability/whatever.....

male Mul Fighter 4 EXP 3873

oh well.

MAP 42/42 hp

this happens after the elf defiler takes his go

Spoiler:

1d20 ⇒ 10

Furio still can't penetrate the dying half-giant's defences.

Initiatives:
Ruscer 31-
Half-Giant 20 (dazed (save ends), marked by Furio)
Arakan 13
Furio 11- (marked by HG)
Elf Defiler (dead)
Gart 6 (1 failed death saving throw, unconscious)
Jareen 3+
Th'Kal 3-

Jareen.

Male Human Wizard 4 HP: 18/31 AC: 11 Treasure XP

At this point, it looks like we are close to getting it, so I'm not taking any chances. Magic Missile.

A bolt of light flies from Jareen, briefly illuminating the chamber, before impacting the half giant. 7 force damage

The straw that broke the inix's back - the half-giant finally succumbs and falls like a toppling boulder, to move no more.

Yay! I was worried there for a moment. End of combat. 113xp each, plus another 125xp each for taking the defiler camp. I assume you will all go over and stabilise Gart, search the bodies and check the place out. I also assume you will go for an extended rest after this. But in the meantime...

Their enemies defeated, the invaders checck the room ahead. Other than the crack in the rock descending into darkness, they find an unexpected surprise that Gart and Arakan somehow failed to notice in the fear and tension of the ambush - a female prisoner, tied up and gagged and deposited on a pile of mangy furs in the corner.

OK Safier, you are on.

Male Half-Elf Mindvivisectionist 3/Archaeologist 1 (AC: 16 [T: 13 /F: 14]; HP: 28/28; F+5 (+2 vs Poison), R+8, W+4; Init: +2; Perc: +7 [Low-light vision])

I thought Gart stabilized on his 2nd roll (with the 15).

Arakan does what he can for Gart, feeling somewhat responsible after vanishing from the Half-giant's sight to leave the dwarf as the only target. He doesn't feel too bad about it though, the dwarf did strike early after all. He's a little unfamiliar with tending to others, considering it isn't really his forte.

Heal to allow surge 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13, I think it's DC 15, so I don't quite do it.

Seeing the prisoner in the room, Arakan looks her up and down, before moving on to look the rest of the place over. He shows neither concern nor interest in the prisoner. She is just one more person to either protect or feed, and he's not the nurturing type.

I thought it was funny "tied-up and gagged", okay Saifer go ahead. "MMMPh mm Mpf" as she wriggles futiley across the floor.

I thought you had to get a 20. Someone assisting Arakan (DC 11) will allow Gart to use a healing surge.

And it's a performance challenge for Safier - eloquent body language.

Judging by the map and description of combat, Safier didn't see any of the combat, thus didn't see any arcane magic flying about, correct? Just wanting to verify.

Safier sits bound in the corner, watching the newcomers warily, shifting her gaze to whomever happens to be closest to her at any point. She waits for them to give away their reason for being here first before attempting to get assistance, thinking to herself, "What is happening here?"

Male Human Wizard 4 HP: 18/31 AC: 11 Treasure XP

Heal: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 Jareen moves to help Arakan

"For the love of the dead gods man, you need to do it like this!"

Distracted by the dwarf, he doesn't wander through to see the prisoner just yet.

You probably will have heard it - you can try an Arcana check if you like to recognise the sounds of arcane combat.

Yep, pretty definitively identified arcane spell-play there.

She may recognize Arakan and Gart as the two that came in and coaxed the group out of the room before the fight. Also, Arakan did say something telling in giant in an intimidating tone to get the giant out, in case she speaks the language.

{HP 40/40 Surges 7/7 | AC 17 Fort 15 Ref 17 Will 20 | Inish +5 Pas Per 11 Pas Ins 11 | Resists: Thunder 5, Lightning 5, Cold 5 | XP: 3490/3750}

Recognizing the man as the one who came in before, and understanding what the sounds coming from the hall were, she struggles as best able to stand, worry in her eyes. Panicked thoughts flow through her head, "Who are they? Templars? More cultists? Do they know? I need to get out of here!" She strains against the bonds holding her, trying desperately to escape her bonds.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

The woman struggles against her bonds, managing to get an arm free.

Male Half-Elf Mindvivisectionist 3/Archaeologist 1 (AC: 16 [T: 13 /F: 14]; HP: 28/28; F+5 (+2 vs Poison), R+8, W+4; Init: +2; Perc: +7 [Low-light vision])

Arakan seeing her begin to move more purposefully, turns abruptly aiming his hand crossbow her direction. "No sudden moves. I'm going to remove your gag, so you can be questioned. You try anything stupid and I will plant a bolt right through your stomach. Nothing like losing blood, as well as what little food and water you may have in your system. Do we understand each other?" He nods as he asks, letting her know the response he expects from her.

Intimidate 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

He eases forward, his hand crossbow leading, and when he gets close he calmly reaches up to remove the gag. Doing his best to keep his eyes steely and strong, presenting a fierce front.

Safier stops her struggles, staring at the man intently. She slightly nods her head at his words, putting her free arm at her side.

Sorry, missed that it was removed.

The gag removed, she looks up at Arakan. "Thank you," she says to him, still watching his eyes. "May I ask what you are doing here?"

Male Human Wizard 4 HP: 18/31 AC: 11 Treasure XP

"Now now Arakan, don't go spilling the fluids, we aren't in the city now, they could be useful."

Male Half-Elf Mindvivisectionist 3/Archaeologist 1 (AC: 16 [T: 13 /F: 14]; HP: 28/28; F+5 (+2 vs Poison), R+8, W+4; Init: +2; Perc: +7 [Low-light vision])

Arakan shoots Jareen a look of annoyance and rolls his eyes as the old man advertises his name. Ever suspicious, he disregards the woman's question "We are asking the questions. You are just a prisoner. Who are you, what are you doing here, and why did they see fit that you should be bound and gagged? What would you say if I told you they have all been slain by us? Does it upset or elate you?" He watches the woman as he questions her, trying to read her answers and reactions.

Safier meets Arakan's eyes. "My name is Safier. I'm a merchant with a caravan those men attacked. I have no idea what they were planning to do with me. I believe they took others prisoner, but I don't know where they are kept. If you've slain them all, then they received what they deserved."

Arakan sneers at the woman's response, "Great, another merchant. Let me guess, you're a spoiled brat that thinks everyone should do what you say just because you were raised with money? Not this guy sister. Don't even get it into your head that you're gonna tell me what to do." He turns around, suddenly disinterested, as he tries to see whether this chamber is suitable for spending an evening.

Male Human Wizard 4 HP: 18/31 AC: 11 Treasure XP

Jareen watches Arakan's display with a wide grin. When he turns away, Jareen moves forward. "My friend can be a little agitated. This seems to be the last cavern. A complex this size on this level, and with the information we were give, I would expect to extend, further. Up or down, do you have any idea?" Jareen speaks in a friendly manor, strange for the cantankerous old git.

Safier's eyes linger on Arakan for a moment before shifting her gaze to this newcomer. "I'm afriad I don't know much more than what I've told you. They seemed to be taking prisoners when I was captured, but I was knocked unconscious and don't recall much more than that."

Having worked herself free, she rubs at her wrists. The man seeming friendly, Safier speaks to him in hushed tones, "The fighting in the hall, I heard, I don't know, things. It sounded...unnatural. Terrible. Who are you all? Why are you here?"

EDIT: I took a liberty, since the Acrobatic's description said it's a 20 to get out of restraints. But I was reading quickly on my way out the door. If you'd rather I wasn't loose, let me know.

Male Human Wizard 4 HP: 18/31 AC: 11 Treasure XP

"All in good time, either you'll find out, or Arakan here will leave you in the dust. We are not here for slaves; That's enough for you to know.

So the only way out of this room is the way we just came in? In that case, I for one would like some sleep."

Male Half-Elf Mindvivisectionist 3/Archaeologist 1 (AC: 16 [T: 13 /F: 14]; HP: 28/28; F+5 (+2 vs Poison), R+8, W+4; Init: +2; Perc: +7 [Low-light vision])

Arakan turns to scowl at the old man "Well JAREEN, why don't you say my name a few more times, JAREEN? Or was the two or three times enough for you, JAREEN? So, Princess, do you know if this space in the wall goes anywhere? Were they doing anything with it, hauling people or stuff up and down from it?" He moves to examine it more closely, but stays far enough back to not accidently fall in, in case it goes fairly deep. His caution causes him to get nowhere near enough to tell much about it.

Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Safier:

Spoiler:
The prisoners were taken down there by the defiler leader and a few guards.

{HP 40/40 Surges 7/7 | AC 17 Fort 15 Ref 17 Will 20 | Inish +5 Pas Per 11 Pas Ins 11 | Resists: Thunder 5, Lightning 5, Cold 5 | XP: 3490/3750}

Hmm, slight retcon based on spoiler.

Attempting to stay well away from Arakan, as well as to keep all of them in her sight, Safier backs closer to the wall. "Um, yes. I do remember. I still wasn't fully conscious then. The leader of these people, and a few of his guards, brought the prisoners down that way. They kept me up here so I can't tell you what else may be down there."

MAP 42/42 hp

Gart begins to stir a bit, regaining his consciousness.

i think. if he got his surge, that's worth 8hp, but he was at -12 before the death saves. He might just be stable.

Male Human Wizard 4 HP: 18/31 AC: 11 Treasure XP

Jareen grins at Arakan's reaction. "Well, glorious leader, do you think we can defend this room if needed? May I sleep and replenish my energy? I can't keep these antics up much longer, and I believe we need to let Gart rest to get his strength back."

Moving closer to Aarakan he whispers:

Arakan:
"Does it matter if the girl learns our names? She will be trusted or dead before we leave this room. I wont leave a potential enemy at my back, or one who knows of my skills."

Turning back to Safier he says, "Do you have any skill at healing? Our friend took a previous wound, possibly in saving your life."

Male Half-Elf Mindvivisectionist 3/Archaeologist 1 (AC: 16 [T: 13 /F: 14]; HP: 28/28; F+5 (+2 vs Poison), R+8, W+4; Init: +2; Perc: +7 [Low-light vision])

Arakan hisses back in response to Jareen's opinion,

Jareen:
"Well, I think you should have no problem realizing that sometimes prisoners escape their captors. We did, and those were fairly insurmountable odds."

Arakan looks around at the room, eyeballing the crack in the wall suspiciously most of all. "I don't like it. We don't know who or how many more may be down there. If we're here asleep when some of them come up, it could be over too quick. I say we hole in the furthest of the buildings outside, somewhere mostly out of sight."

Safier sadly shakes her head, "If I had any way of treating him, I would do so. But unfortunately I don't."

"of all sizes and shapes, been holding you captive?
Where was your caravan attacked? We better check it out; we might want to go in the morning though."

I also want to search the dead. Especially the half giant.
"I want the giant's gree gree magic. It was powerful. I hope it was an item that gave him guard against my gouge."

Arakan realized when Furio mentioned it that they didn't look the dead over for anything of worth or value. He goes out into the hallway and inspects them for anything that stands out as having 'special' properties or great value.

@Gart, when you heal from the negative hp range, you first set your hp to zero and then apply the full healing power. So, after Arakan and Jareen trigger your surge, you should be up and at 8hp.

The only reason you track negative hp, is if you take as much negative hp as your bloodied value -- b/c then you die-die (no death saves, just dead).

ah yes, i was quite close to that. in that case, the fruit was not needed. Gart would get up after surging from the heal checks, and take his time to use 3 more surges of his remaining 6.

Having little to say to the unknown person, and hoping his allies had done all the necessary talking, Gart moves into the cave with the others. He sits, bloody and weary, against the wall of the cave, taking what little comfort he can from being out of the sunlight.

Gart will take off his armor for sleep if sleeping in armor is a problem, and will volunteer for a watch sometime later in the watch cycle (as he is very exhausted from his near-death experience)

Seeing Gart getting ready for an extended rest...
"<Kak> I watch. Clutchmate you may all sleep easy - I will wake you if I need your aids. Thurio sleeps longest and loudest, I will wake you when it looks done."

Th'Kal has been around "sleepers" long enough to know that it isn't laziness that makes them remain idle for so long... he doesn't use the term as an insult like most other 'kreen do. Though, he still does find it fascinating -- you may wake up to him standing over you, staring at just how you sleep.

Th'Kal too seemingly ignores Safia - he can't get a read on her (awesome rolls!) and just trusts his wiser friends to do their jobs and figure things out. He relaxes his grip on his axe a bit when it appears that Safia is being helpful and then finds a place where he can keep an easy watch on Arakan looting and Gart sleeping.

Kreen don't sleep - Torpor allows me to remain aware of my surroundings at all times during the extended rest... so, I'll stand guard.

OK, you all get an extended rest. In terms of treasure, you find some trade goods - fancy amber beads, a few bundles of skins and so on - worth about 300gp once you get back to civilisation. You also find a couple more healing fruits. It would appear the half-giant's fancy mojo was a half-giant thing.

The next few hours pass without incident as the adventurers rest after their epic series of battles. The following morning, Ruscer volunteers to guard the animals while the others go and tackle the defilers. "The last tunnel we went down didn't go too well. I'll stay up here."
