well, into the Deus Ex Machina machine I go!
Rehil Ecraish |
Rehil squirms out of the framework. " Cole! Ashshar! Vaard! Into the hut!"
The elf takes his own advice and dashes for the hut. Rounding the corner to the doorway, he looks back at the dragon. The merest moment's delay and he is inside.
Otto swears. "Dragon, what was your name?". The cleric scarcely awaits an answer before fleeing for safety himself.
I'd written this part so Otto would have something to do, but it occurs to me that you might want to remove him from the scene now.
Cole. |
Cole hustles towards the door, where he hesitates only briefly—looking at the doomed dragon—before stooping to step through. Once inside, he pushes his way towards the window, drawing out his shield and standing between the window and his teammates.
"What were we sent into?"
Rehil Ecraish |
"This little hut. It's like a control center."
Nalverren |
"Front row seats to the beginning of the end."
Nalverren |
hah, maybe leave it out there. it could get a huge boost of necro-energy! maybe explode, maybe get powers.
Cole. |
If there's room, I see no reason not to bring him in. If we're short of space, though, Skelly seems the most expendable. And if there's not room for everyone, Cole likely has the best chance at survival (raging HP puts him around 78 hp with decent saves). I'm hoping ti won't come to that.
Tal'Va'Nocht |
Undead are not injured by necromantic energy. Just to make a point. Not sure he needs to be in there. Then again, maybe whatever leaks through will turn him into a lich who'll want some meat to clothe his bones some, so all of you being in there together would give him the best chance of a nice skin suit. :)
Nalverren |
yeah i meant explodes as in the old thing (forget which edition it started with) where a normal person could go to the positive energy plane and be healed, but then if they stay too long (enough to heal double their HP or some other arbitrary amount) they would explode
Tal'Va'Nocht |
Ah, but we're not on the positive or negative elemental planes. No matter how much is released from this bomb, it will be no where near being in the very essence of negative energy like being on that plane would be.
Tal'Va'Nocht |
If this thing releases as much necromantic energy as exists on the negative energy plane, then it's really just merging the two planes, in which case, the entire world, from insects to higher life forms, all die in the first 0.0003 seconds. I'd be rather upset to have been duped into making a character and sitting through 8 weeks of not playing just to have my character killed by the bomb going off.
Nalverren |
yeah, with Eberron i wouldn't be so sure. I mean suuure, it wont be THE plane of negative energy, but this could be an evil plot to create a manifest zone on a continent far away so the 5 nations don't give a damn until it's too late. or maybe i've just been reading the news too much.
Tal'Va'Nocht |
Let me put it another way, if it is a manifest zone, you'll be in the center of it, in a small room, with no food, and no exit... So whether it's a manifest zone or a full on planer merge, it ends the same way for Nalverren. The only question would be whether he's eaten by his friends before they finally starve to death, or if he's killed instantly. :)
Nalverren |
yeah that's where we hope this room will protect us... somehow. that's why in Aubrey's games i usually have a plan for a new character, or at least bank half my AP per his houserule for cheating death
Ashshar |
The lizardfolk watches his companions with interest and worry, and knowing nothing about what is going on simply steps inside and asks "What iss the fusss about? What happensss with the mighty dragon...?"
Nalverren |
"It is in a situation no better than when we arrived, despite our efforts."
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
Vaard has never shown suicidal tendencies before (other than coming on this mission in the first place) so he will join the rest of the group in the hut.
Vaard follows the skeleton in and slams the door to the hut. The pod isn't designed to accommodate so many people as the occupants crush together. It's an extremely undignified way to die.
"Three, two, one..."
Outside, the monolith shatters with the blast as the energies race outwards. Inside the pod, consciousness is instantly snuffed out.
At least it wasn't painful.

Please go to spoilers:
Ashshar:
Above the whisper of the flames you hear the hissing of snakes, forming into a multitude of voices that surrounds you. "That which was bound would be unbound. That which was wrought they seek to unmake. Those that slew Siberys must remain within the bosom of Eberron."
The flames begin to take on form. A serpentine shape, broad wings spread wide, rises above you. The long, feathered tail lashes furiously. The voice is now singular, loud and all-encompassing, battering you. "The Unbinding of the spawn of Khyber must not be permitted! Pilgrim, will you live?
"WILL YOU LIVE?"
You know you must answer.

Rehil Ecraish |
"Yes, I would live! But who asks? And why?"
Tal'Va'Nocht |
Tal'Va'Nocht opens his eyes slowly, realizing he's been seeing the silver flame through his eyelids until now. As he focuses on the winged serpent, his will reasserts itself. "Who art thou, who disturbs my sojurn, ghost?" He asks, using the ritual old tongue, before switching back to the more natural common speech patterns of his people. "I am Tal'Va'Nocht, I answer to Dol Arrah only. If she bids me to return to my work, I shall. But you are not Dol Arrah. What are you?" Tal reflexively casts detect evil on it, his eyes glowing green as he does so.
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
Tal:
"There was one who stood for the being of which you speak. But she did not parley, she acted. The world stands on the brink. Your soul can meld with the flame. Or it can return to battle."
The flames leap higher and the spirit seems to shrink as if Tal is drifting away. His senses begin to fade as if his mind is dissolving.
"Time is short, pilgrim. You must choose."
Ashshar |
Ashshar had never felt... or better said, not felt like this. The thought of dying without achieving anything to further the glory of the River Serpeant burned like a thousands suns.
With the utmost reverence, the now-spirit-of-a-lizardfolk said "I will live!"
Tal'Va'Nocht |
I figured that, but I also figured his mind is going to fill in bits it's used to, so his 'eyes open' as he goes from floating to thinking. Besides, you said we see a feathered serpent, hard to do that without eyes. :)
"If my duty is to live and fight, then I will do my duty, ghost. My allegiance will not change, however." The Paladin says, pushing off the dissolving with an effort of will.

Cole. |
His training had included blades, shields, tactics, and most recently forests and jungles. Things of gods and planes were foreign to him, but these hissed things. Silver flames. Feathered serpents. Bound creatures and the slaying of Siberys … even he know these were big concepts with massive importance.
“I did not ask to be here,” he rumbles back, “and I did not choose to die. Of course I would choose to live. Who asks?”
Nalverren |
Vaard |
With his voice trembling, Vaard calls out
"Yes. I shall survive. I shall live through whatever You have done to me."

Wultram shakes off the grogginess and once taking in his suroundings he snaps up as fast as he can pointing his spear at the entrance. Once he realizes he wasn't restrained he calms down a bit. He then casts a simple spell to provide light to see the hut fully, he holds his spear that was target of the spell inside as he peaks his head outside to see where he is.

Tal'Va'Nocht |
Tal slowly stands up, and stretches, as quietly as possible. He stretches his senses as much as possible, listening. As he works the kinks out of his body, he searches the room with his eyes, seeing if his equipment is nearby.
Cole. |
Is Cole’s gear present?
He takes a long moment taking stock of his frame and armor, a discipline drilled into him since his earliest days, but his mind struggles to make sense of what all he’s experienced since the blast.
Is he damaged? Does he look or feel any different than just before the explosion?
If all seems well, and he is, in fact truly alone, he stands, looking around the room as he moves towards the hut’s entrance. There, he peers out from within.
