"I just didn't want you to strike out in reflex - I'm fragile, you know. And for the record, I'm Runzyl at the moment in case someone else sees through the invisibility. I don't want them to see my latest alter ego. As for kalashtar help, yes, we do. We don't know then terribly well yet, but as you say, we have to trust something - in this case, we are trusting the people that asked us to do this task are providing help and not hindrance."

Back in the boutique, no longer invisible and wearing the guise of the young lady once more, Gil petulantly says, "No, no, no, this simply will not do! Come, we might as well continue our errands." Followed by her continent of three(!) liveried warforged bodyguards, she heads for the door.

Vaisyrharath Not the most subtle, but fun. Now I have three guards. Onward!

To Gil As 'my lady' directs. A bit of wry humor leaks over through the thought.

Careful, I could get used to this! There is no attempt to disguise the mirth in her tone.

Pierce pauses as the Lady he is escorting has asked him to stand guard. Stock still as any Warforged would be.

Pierce still has Heightened Awareness cast - lasts 120 minutes grants him a +2 to Perception and a +2 to all trained Knowledge skills for the duration, if we enter combat while under the effect of this spell, it's effect ends and Pierce gains a +4 bonus on the Initiative check - that would be a +16 for that combat.

Kazadar will follow along with the troupe, purchasing fruit here and meat on sticks there as they pass markets, passing the time with food as usual.

While Janosz provides the distraction, Haladon asks around after Captain Marrius. Following the unfortunate incident at the Lyrandar docking tower and the general notoriety that he and his crew were trying their best to avoid, he learns that the Crimson Eagle has left Sharn. Marrius was apparently cagey about where they were heading - he is still a wanted man as far as Karrnath is concerned - but the contact Haladon has found was an 'intimate companion', albeit on a relatively temporary basis, of one of the more loose-lipped members of the ship's crew. From her he finds out that the plan was to ship out to the wilder fringes of Khorvaire for a while, somewhere between Qbarra and the Lhazaar Principalities.

A dilemma, then. Do we continue our search or do we charter with another captain?

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (16) + 18 = 34
Making sure our 'intimate' contact isn't sending us on a wild goose chase or under the influence of someone/something.

Some good rolling there.

Haladon gets the impression she is telling the truth - she's somewhat miffed as the crewmember in question left without paying out some money she felt she was owed, so she has little reason to conceal anything on his behalf.

Let's head back. It's getting late. We'll decide a course of action, then.

We'll head back to the kalashtar 'restaurant' to rest and decide a course of action. Try to keep the counter-scrying going and Vaisyrharath mentioned he can shield our sleeping minds.

Continue searching for Captain Marrius in the wilds or charter another ship? Doesn't have to be an airship; we can get a sailing ship if needed.

As mentioned before, a trip from Sharn to Honsaa is about 9500-9750 miles as the crow flies. Charter a sailing vessel using the higher range value for a one-way trip will cost us:

Sailing ship - 20,312.5 gp (203-204 days on the ocean)
Sailing ship, Lyrandar - 20,312.5 gp (67-68 days on the ocean)
Sailing ship, soarwood - 20,312.5 gp (101-102 days on the ocean)
Stormship - * (50-51 days on the ocean)
Wind galleon - 15,234.4 gp (20-21 days on the ocean)

* Owned by national navies. Requires special circumstances to charter.

HP = 127/127 - AP = 11/11 - AC 22 (T 15)(FF 17) - Fast Heal 3 - Darkvision 60' - F +17/R +16/ W +14 | Init. +12

Can we cast a Sending to Marrius? If not I would say we should book the quickest passage possible, the Wind Galleon.

79/79 hp, 0 nonlethal; Effects: ; Perception +16, vs traps +20; Guise: Non-descript male gambler

Embarassing, I can perform a sending, should have tried that earlier.

Once returned to their accommodations, Gil sits to compose a query to Marrius.

Open to suggestions, Limited to 25 characters, of course.

HP 41/70, PP 162/199 ac25/t15/ff23 frt7*rfx8,will11* INit+2,percep+1detect remote viewing, telepathic links

Hal, what is the travel time from Sharn by airship? Would the transit time for the ship to return to Sharn+the trip to Honsaa be more than the Wind Galleon's 20-21 days?

An airship trip from Sharn to Honsaa in Adar is about 9500-9750 miles through the Dragonreach as the crow flies. Let's round it up to 10,000 miles as we'll want to skirt some areas such as Argonnessen and Syrkarn. Using airship travel times, that's about 21-22 days of travel. If we charter the Crimson Eagle, that's 21-22,000 gp to get us there.

Just a caveat, much of the travel times and distance is just a rough estimate. We could easily get delayed with encounters that Aubrey throws at us. Airships have an advantage as there's probably not as many encounters in the air as there would be on the water.

Another option is teleportation. We just need to find someone to send us there.

Haste, Divine Power, Air Walk, Death Ward Dwarf Fighter 1 / Cleric 8 / Sovereign Speaker 3; HP 87/116

given that heads of state were threatened, perhaps we could hitch a ride on a national navy stormship

HP 41/70, PP 162/199 ac25/t15/ff23 frt7*rfx8,will11* INit+2,percep+1detect remote viewing, telepathic links

So, even if we do get a message to the airship captain, we still need a couple of weeks for him to return to Sharn from the other end of Khorvaire before we start the 21 day trek to Adar.
It might make more sense to book a wind galleon, if we can. or another airship, if such a thing can be found.
Vaisyrharath does have teleport, but his range is only 1300 miles, and he's never been to Adar.

Ezreal waves one hand in irritation, "The distance to Marrius is not an issue. We could be standing on his deck an hour from now if he agrees to have us. Contact the man and make an offer."

I have greater teleport. Ez can teleport unlimited distance on the material plane with no chance of error. We would just have to scry Marrius first to get a landing spot. The only reason we need him is that I have no one to scry in Adar and that I think we established that the area is mystically protected from either scrying or teleportation or both.

Also I've had detect scrying running 24 hours a day for several years of this game, but limited options to shut down a sensor if one appears.
You guys may be more handy in that department.

Marrius,
Rodergo's Reavers seeking transport to Adar. Twenty-Two thousand? If acceptable, we scry and teleport aboard in one hour.

You have a few words to spare if you want to amend. Lowballing without being insulting hopefully, in the assumption he will ask for more.

Going with Ez's suggestion?

There is a pause after Ezreal sends his message before the reply comes back.

"Fifty thousand, and a pardon for me and the crew. You know people in the Admiralty, you can make it happen. And Adar is f&cking-"

The reply is cut off as the word limit is reached.

"Well, that was short and to the point," Haladon comments wryly. "I hope you can bring the price down, 'Ganishana'. Otherwise, we may have to pawn some of our gear."

"I wonder which Admiralty he means..."

Aubrey, Gil or 'Ganishana' was the one who sent the sending. Ezreal simply dictated the message.

Looks like we're into the bargaining phase. Probably going to involve some Diplomacy checks. Not sure we can aid Gil since the messages need to be short and she's the one sending them.

He means the Karrnathi Navy - the Admiralty are its bureaucracy and high command.

Understood the Admiralty. Just wasn't sure which nation(s) he was in trouble with. Knowing our roguish captain, I wouldn't be surprised if he was in trouble with all Five nations. ;)

yeah the price is already super-ludicrous as-is, 50k... might as well make our own boat for that price. 90k is the cost of a brand-new lyrandar airship

"This Captain Marrius drives a hard bargain. But perhaps his price isn't as ludicrous as it seems. Adar is difficult to reach by air or sea. The mountain peaks rise so high you are likely to freeze on deck. It would take a skilled captain and crew indeed to find a spot to let us off safely. All of the traffic info Sarlona proper is controlled by the Riedrans so avoiding them is another hazard. When I initially left it was on a smuggler vessel crossing the Barren Sea. I'm amazed we made it through the maze off underwater mountains off the coast."

"If the Captain is charging us double what others will, why not simply utilize a new charter for transport?"

Pierce has another 2,300.

Offer and counter-offer - maybe now is the time to consider weaving in some skill checks?

Ah, blast it. I intended to post that last one with a Diplomacy check. Would you consider a retcon to do so?

Yes, sure. You might want to consider what other skills might be pertinent in understanding Marrius' negotiating position. Or you could just scry him and teleport over and do it in person.

Haste, Divine Power, Air Walk, Death Ward Dwarf Fighter 1 / Cleric 8 / Sovereign Speaker 3; HP 87/116

Kazadar only has what last cash amount we got

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

"Y'know, Marrius must be truly desperate for cash to make a ridiculous demand like that. Also, he never mentioned any intention of returning to Karrn previously. Combine those two oddities, and I wonder if he is being squeezed by someone and might need to run back to Karrn. Who has that kind of reach?"

"We might want to scry on him anyway. For all we know, he's tied to a chair somewhere with someone getting the hot pokers ready. The offer is so bad it almost seems like a warning or coded message."

If I can use Sense Motive on a written message, my check is 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (16) + 19 = 35. Intimidate or Know (nature) seems... inapplicable here, unfortunately.

79/79 hp, 0 nonlethal; Effects: ; Perception +16, vs traps +20; Guise: Non-descript male gambler

It’s not written. Gil is communicating verbally via sending.

Retcon Diplomacy check: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (19) + 20 = 39

”Ezreal, would you be able to scry Marrius?”
