Gil |
"I just didn't want you to strike out in reflex - I'm fragile, you know. And for the record, I'm Runzyl at the moment in case someone else sees through the invisibility. I don't want them to see my latest alter ego. As for kalashtar help, yes, we do. We don't know then terribly well yet, but as you say, we have to trust something - in this case, we are trusting the people that asked us to do this task are providing help and not hindrance."
Back in the boutique, no longer invisible and wearing the guise of the young lady once more, Gil petulantly says, "No, no, no, this simply will not do! Come, we might as well continue our errands." Followed by her continent of three(!) liveried warforged bodyguards, she heads for the door.
Vaisyrharath Not the most subtle, but fun. Now I have three guards. Onward!
Pierce - Flames' Arrow |
Pierce pauses as the Lady he is escorting has asked him to stand guard. Stock still as any Warforged would be.
Pierce still has Heightened Awareness cast - lasts 120 minutes grants him a +2 to Perception and a +2 to all trained Knowledge skills for the duration, if we enter combat while under the effect of this spell, it's effect ends and Pierce gains a +4 bonus on the Initiative check - that would be a +16 for that combat.
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
While Janosz provides the distraction, Haladon asks around after Captain Marrius. Following the unfortunate incident at the Lyrandar docking tower and the general notoriety that he and his crew were trying their best to avoid, he learns that the Crimson Eagle has left Sharn. Marrius was apparently cagey about where they were heading - he is still a wanted man as far as Karrnath is concerned - but the contact Haladon has found was an 'intimate companion', albeit on a relatively temporary basis, of one of the more loose-lipped members of the ship's crew. From her he finds out that the plan was to ship out to the wilder fringes of Khorvaire for a while, somewhere between Qbarra and the Lhazaar Principalities.
Haladon ir'Tarravan |
Let's head back. It's getting late. We'll decide a course of action, then.
We'll head back to the kalashtar 'restaurant' to rest and decide a course of action. Try to keep the counter-scrying going and Vaisyrharath mentioned he can shield our sleeping minds.
Continue searching for Captain Marrius in the wilds or charter another ship? Doesn't have to be an airship; we can get a sailing ship if needed.
As mentioned before, a trip from Sharn to Honsaa is about 9500-9750 miles as the crow flies. Charter a sailing vessel using the higher range value for a one-way trip will cost us:
Sailing ship - 20,312.5 gp (203-204 days on the ocean)
Sailing ship, Lyrandar - 20,312.5 gp (67-68 days on the ocean)
Sailing ship, soarwood - 20,312.5 gp (101-102 days on the ocean)
Stormship - * (50-51 days on the ocean)
Wind galleon - 15,234.4 gp (20-21 days on the ocean)
* Owned by national navies. Requires special circumstances to charter.
Gil |
Embarassing, I can perform a sending, should have tried that earlier.
Once returned to their accommodations, Gil sits to compose a query to Marrius.
Open to suggestions, Limited to 25 characters, of course.

An airship trip from Sharn to Honsaa in Adar is about 9500-9750 miles through the Dragonreach as the crow flies. Let's round it up to 10,000 miles as we'll want to skirt some areas such as Argonnessen and Syrkarn. Using airship travel times, that's about 21-22 days of travel. If we charter the Crimson Eagle, that's 21-22,000 gp to get us there.
Just a caveat, much of the travel times and distance is just a rough estimate. We could easily get delayed with encounters that Aubrey throws at us. Airships have an advantage as there's probably not as many encounters in the air as there would be on the water.
Another option is teleportation. We just need to find someone to send us there.
Vaisyrharath |
So, even if we do get a message to the airship captain, we still need a couple of weeks for him to return to Sharn from the other end of Khorvaire before we start the 21 day trek to Adar.
It might make more sense to book a wind galleon, if we can. or another airship, if such a thing can be found.
Vaisyrharath does have teleport, but his range is only 1300 miles, and he's never been to Adar.
Ezreal Farlowe |
Ezreal waves one hand in irritation, "The distance to Marrius is not an issue. We could be standing on his deck an hour from now if he agrees to have us. Contact the man and make an offer."
I have greater teleport. Ez can teleport unlimited distance on the material plane with no chance of error. We would just have to scry Marrius first to get a landing spot. The only reason we need him is that I have no one to scry in Adar and that I think we established that the area is mystically protected from either scrying or teleportation or both.
Also I've had detect scrying running 24 hours a day for several years of this game, but limited options to shut down a sensor if one appears.
You guys may be more handy in that department.
Ezreal Farlowe |
Marrius,
Rodergo's Reavers seeking transport to Adar. Twenty-Two thousand? If acceptable, we scry and teleport aboard in one hour.
You have a few words to spare if you want to amend. Lowballing without being insulting hopefully, in the assumption he will ask for more.
Vaisyrharath |
Agreed
I noticed some incongruities with my power list. Looks like Hero lab dosen't quite have some levels and options right. As I haven't done too much, do you mind if I tweak that list a little? I won't change anything I've already used.
Haladon ir'Tarravan |
"Well, that was short and to the point," Haladon comments wryly. "I hope you can bring the price down, 'Ganishana'. Otherwise, we may have to pawn some of our gear."
"I wonder which Admiralty he means..."
Aubrey, Gil or 'Ganishana' was the one who sent the sending. Ezreal simply dictated the message.
Looks like we're into the bargaining phase. Probably going to involve some Diplomacy checks. Not sure we can aid Gil since the messages need to be short and she's the one sending them.
Mintash |
"This Captain Marrius drives a hard bargain. But perhaps his price isn't as ludicrous as it seems. Adar is difficult to reach by air or sea. The mountain peaks rise so high you are likely to freeze on deck. It would take a skilled captain and crew indeed to find a spot to let us off safely. All of the traffic info Sarlona proper is controlled by the Riedrans so avoiding them is another hazard. When I initially left it was on a smuggler vessel crossing the Barren Sea. I'm amazed we made it through the maze off underwater mountains off the coast."
Mintash |
"I never thought to return to my homeland so I have no plans in place to do so. Havakhad, do you know of any oft used methods to get people into Adar?"
"For now I think we should continue to negotiate with Captain Marius as you already have a relationship, though that is starting to look like more of a hindrance than a boon at present. If that falls through though, we will need alternatives."
Janosz Frogshanks |
"Y'know, Marrius must be truly desperate for cash to make a ridiculous demand like that. Also, he never mentioned any intention of returning to Karrn previously. Combine those two oddities, and I wonder if he is being squeezed by someone and might need to run back to Karrn. Who has that kind of reach?"
"We might want to scry on him anyway. For all we know, he's tied to a chair somewhere with someone getting the hot pokers ready. The offer is so bad it almost seems like a warning or coded message."
If I can use Sense Motive on a written message, my check is 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (16) + 19 = 35. Intimidate or Know (nature) seems... inapplicable here, unfortunately.
