Janosz fires the unfamiliar weapon. The bolt heads into the gloom and Janosz thinks he hits something, but he seems to do little damage and the kraken's attacks are not weakened.
One attack each on Gil and Rolund.
Gil: 1d20 + 17 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 17 - 4 = 28 to hit, damage 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 6) + 7 = 16; on a hit, attempts to grapple 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (6) + 25 = 31 CMB
Rolund: 1d20 + 17 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 17 - 4 = 16 to hit, damage 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 2) + 7 = 12; on a hit, attempts to grapple 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (12) + 25 = 37 CMB
It will drill whoever it has held in a grapple for 3d8 + 10 ⇒ (3, 2, 6) + 10 = 21; if it has a choice, it will drill Rolund as he is closer.
Lightbringer |
Lightbringer will delay until after Rolund has acted. If the rope appears to tangle in the drill bit, he will then take the rope where it passes him and try to wrap it around the loose end of a nearby tentacle, preferably one grappling Gil. If the rope does not catch in the drill he will try to pry one of the tentacles grappling Gil off the suit.
Either way I assume it will be a grapple check that will draw an AoO: CMB: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33
Gil |
She does, but.... OK, Gil will retreat for repairs and sent Basher down for additional muscle. However far she can get back toward the rest of the party. Her speed is 20', but I don't know if the stairs will slow her down.

Yeah, we dropped the ball, we should have had Runzyl on the rope in Fate’s semi-absence. I haven’t been paying enough attention to what the other characters are doing, sorry. Next round (assuming the rope holds), LB intends to delay to act with Bor and Aid Another on the rope, I suggest Runzyl do the same.

Hate to burst your bubble but it takes a full round action to reload a great crossbow and it draws AoO.
Took the words out of my mouth. The dwarf using it was able to reload faster because she had relevant feats.
In any case...
Despite its struggles, the kraken is hauled incrementally up the corridor.
AoO from Roly and Basher.

Bah! Stupid mega-crossbow.
And since I'm sitting here: AoO Basher 12+13=AC 25, damage 1d8+9=16. Damage counts as magic and adamantine.
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
You stil take an AoO, since withdrawal only works from the space you actually left.
Janosz realises his lack of facility with the crossbow is more of a liability than a help, and tries to dodge the flailing tentacles as he heads back topside.
1d20 + 17 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 17 - 4 = 19 to hit, damage 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 4) + 7 = 16
The creature now concentrates on its nearer foes.
Attacks on Rolund and Basher:
Rolund: 1d20 + 17 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 17 - 4 = 22 to hit, damage 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 5) + 7 = 18, on a hit attempts to grapple CMB 1d20 + 25 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 25 - 4 = 26
Basher: 1d20 + 17 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 17 - 4 = 18 to hit, damage 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 3) + 7 = 14, on a hit attempts to grapple CMB 1d20 + 25 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 25 - 4 = 38
It's drill is out of commission for the moment while it is tangled up (lucky you!).
LB, though Mothy mentioned he might not be about so someone else can take his turn.
Lightbringer |
Here for the moment but not on a good device. LB will again delay to aid another on the rope with Bor, only this time he will move back up the stairs with the rope and kraken if they move it.
Sir Rolund ir'Kraal |
Basher and Rolund narrowly dodge the tentacles and the bone knight takes advantage to strike the squid construct.
Full-round action: attack construct squid.
Attack (-2 slashing) #1: 1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 13 - 2 = 13. Damage (1/2 slashing): 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7.
Attack (-2 slashing) #2: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 8 - 2 = 10. Damage (1/2 slashing): 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11.

edit:
after Ez,...Basher's bashinating
Basher continues to do that which he is named for: he continues to bash.
Melee 2 slams +13 (1d8+9)
attack 1 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20 damage 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
attack 2 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18 damage 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Ezreal Farlowe |
"Gil! What the hell is going on in there?!" Ezreal shouts while working over her armored suit repairing structural damage. When she explains he grits his teeth, "I want you to pull me into place so that I can attempt to disable the construct. There is no need for you to engage in your damaged state, just pull me around the corner so that I can see it."
Didn't realize it was back to me.
RMD 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (1, 1) + 10 = 12 Awww hell.
Kn Arcana 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (17) + 19 = 36 to know if there are any house rules regarding electrical magic underwater that I should know about before accidentally frying everyone.
Ezreal Farlowe |
I don't know if any of you guys read Rendar's spoilered advice in the ooc a little while back with Aubrey's follow up, but it was a damn good idea considering how this is going. Short version- open the tent underwater to drop the water level leaving the squid at a huge disadvantage.
I don't recall if it is Janosz or Rodergo who has the tent, but it was a pretty creative solution if you are into it.
Gil |
I missed two failure checks:
Failure on 1 - 13: 1d100 ⇒ 21
Failure on 1 - 14: 1d100 ⇒ 9
Uh-oh. This is just prior to her last move up the stairs.
Result of failure: 1d100 ⇒ 22
The Suit ceases to operate until it recharges.
Suddenly, the suit stops moving. Lightbringer can see her through the canopy trying to get some sort of response from the suit, but it is not moving. The lights on the unit are fading, however, and she seems to be blind to where he is. "Lightbringer? Are you still out there? This crazy thing has stopped - I think it's out of power!"
Save your RMD spell unless you are swimming down to apply it to me.
Lightbringer |
Gil's suit and Lightbringher emerge from the water.
Lightbringer was actually delaying until Bor pulls on the rope, to Aid Another. If / when they move the kraken forward with the rope he will move back up the stairs by the same amount, as per my post above.
However, while he is delaying, if he sees that Gil is in trouble he will instead attempt to drag / manhandle the suit back up the stairs instead of assisting with the rope. Stregnth check if required (either for rope or to drag the suit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Lightbringer |
I think we are a bit messed up on init at the moment, what with Gil’s suit malfunction.
LB is delaying to help Bor with the rope (and step backwards as the kraken is pulled up).
Rolund attacked.
Gil-bot was planning to move out of the water, but the suit malfunctioned and she got stuck.
Ez was going to repair Gil-bot, but she is still under water ... so we need a different action from Ez?
Heath acted for Basher, he attacked the squid again (it is under a spoiler).
Rod is on the rope, waiting for Bor.
So we need an action or confirmation of delay from Ez, then Bor (and assistants) on the rope.
Lightbringer |
In the interest of keeping things moving, while we wait on Ez ...
Muscles straining, Bor adjusts his grip on the rope. “Ready?” he bellows at Rodergo and Runzyl, then heaves again.
Bor Strength check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Lightbringer |
Feeling the rope grow taut again below the surface, Lightbringer also grips and pulls. Str Aid Another: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 – he will move back by whatever distance (if any) the kraken is pulled forward.
Rod, Runzyl and whoever else (if any) is helping on the rope also get an Aid Another check.
Hngg ... would have been nice if those rolls (or roles) were reversed ...

Bor 17
Janosz 15+
The lurker 15-
LB 11+
Rolund 11-
Gil 10
Ez 7+
Basher 7-
Rod 5
Kraken STR check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Bor fails to get much of a grip on the rope this time, and Rodergo and Ezreal aren't much help either. The kraken easily resists the pull of the rope this time. Its tentacles lash at Rolund and Bor.
Basher: 1d20 + 17 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 17 - 4 = 28 to hit, damage 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 6) + 7 = 17 and on a successful hit CMD 1d20 + 25 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 25 - 4 = 25 to grapple
Rolund: 1d20 + 17 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 17 - 4 = 24 to hit, damage 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 5) + 7 = 17 and on a successful hit CMD 1d20 + 25 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 25 - 4 = 32 to grapple
LB.
