A glance at the remains indicates there is probably more than one person's body parts lying about. They are pretty rotten - Erfan has only been gone a day or two.

Before the troll is tossed into the lime pit, Runzyl's eyebrows shoot up and he bends down to remove a ring from the troll's finger.

"No sense it letting this go to waste," the elf smirks and places it within his belt pouch before tossing the troll's body in.

Xativa says a quick prayer over the poor fallen; a quick prayer that his militant church is known to advocate in battle (I've been doing my research). "We'll return and see these poor unfortunates receive proper rites. There are those still among the living who require we make haste."

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

want me to detect magic on that bad boy, or wait until we get some more loot?
"I could tell if that ring has a magical aura. Not what it does mind you,...."
Oh, no....it's a Class ring....from Hogwart's....;)

I have amended my last big post on the previous page; you might want to have a look if you haven't seen it.

Runzyl shakes his head at the cleric's askance. "We'll count our blessings once we've made it out of here alive. Knowing whether or not the ring is enchanted isn't going to help us if we can't tell what it does."

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

"Mayhap you're right."
heal check 9+7=16. yep.
appraise 3+2=5. nope.

"These leaves are dreamlily. Don't know how much they're worth. They do have...healing benefits, besides their other less wholesome properties."

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

Made the Search (10+3=13), the Survival (3+10=13) and the Heal (12+5=17) checks, but missed the Appraise check badly (1+1=2).

"There seems to be some sort of passage behind these crates. As Rodergo pointed out, the crates contain dreamlily, or some similar kind of drug, but the stash ain't worth much, so I guess the troll was placed here as a gatekeeper of sorts. We should proceed with caution - any entrances guarded by trolls probably leads somewhere really sensitive."

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

Janosz turns to Rodergo again. "Um, not to be pushy... but could I please have one more charge of your healing wand? Unfortunately I'm not as tough as Runzyl or as solid as Lightbringer. I'll be ready to go after that, though."

I think you need more than one, checking your sheet.

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

3 charges; 17 h.p. healing for Janosz.
"Certainly, my friend."

In the small confines of the shack the sewage reek of Trose and Janosz is more than a little offensive. Ezreal gags a bit, and covers his nose looking away. He clears his throat and suggests mildly, "We /could/ wash some of your sludge coating off before the tunnel. Otherwise I think they may smell you coming no matter how stealthy you are..."

“After that battle, I suggest they will know we are coming whatever we smell like.” Lightbringer states. “If Janosz is adequately repaired, I say we head onwards with caution tempered haste. And pray they do not have another Troll.”

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Rodergo picks up his morningstar. He wonders if he will ever use it...

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

"Amen to that, Brother. Onward then."

So, about the tracks leading up to the crates at the back of the shed....?

Tracks? What tracks? …. Oh, tracks that made Janosz suspect there might be a passage behind the crates. Yes, let’s check that out.

I’m not sure if I missed a description, but are there any visible exits from this shed apart from the door through which we entered?
If we are searching for secret passageways, Lightbringer will assist: Aid Another roll: 4 … never mind.

There are no other obvious exits.

Well I do have the character who went home in the middle of the adventure to take a bath. Maybe it's less about someone smelling them coming than Ezreal having to smell them going. He's just barely polite enough to refrain from complaining directly about how they smell like rank ass. : )

Just to be all official

Search (ring): 2+10=12
Search (passage): 12+10=22
And when someone tells me it is dreamlily, Appraise: 15+2=17

"When we get out of here, and have some more time, I can tell you what that ring does," I say, unconciously tapping the lines of my dragonmark on my arm.

Dragonmann, I don't know what it is about your posts but they have a habit of not showing up. I know you have posted something, but I can't read it - can you post again?

Does this help?

It does. I guess it must be me.

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

IDK--It wasn't showing up at first for me either.

Both Trose and Janosz notice that tracks that lead up to the crates stacked against the back wall, and evidence that the crates have been moved frequently. On examination, the crates appear to be empty. They are bulky and unwieldy (it will take 2 to move one) but not especially heavy.

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

weird--it'll show that you posted on the recent posts, but click it and it won't go there. So I'll click onto the "profile," of the person, check their recent posts, and sometimes it'll be there. THEN that'll make the post show up on the thread.Yours didn't show either until I did all that garbage.

I think it is tied to opening multiple threads using tabbed browsing while I am posting... I will try to break that habit

OK. So, is someone going to move the crates so you can get down the passage, or shall we wrap up for tonight?

Runzyl glances at the crates, then glances to Lightbringer, raising an eyebrow. "Shall we move these boxes and see where this leads? Perhaps your priest is somewhere within."

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

"I'll do some work for a change. You guys guard in case we're attacked." Rod and L.B. go to moving the crates.

Rodergo and Lightbringer heft the cases while the others stand watch. It is relatively quick work to uncover a hole in the timbers of the back wall of the shed, behind which appears to be a cave mouth. Peering in, it is possible to see stairs, carved from the stone and curving upward to the north, and timbers shoring up the walls and ceiling. The steps look old and worn, as if they have suffered the tread of centuries, but the timber-work looks new. The floor, walls and ceiling are covered with a thin layer of mud. Beyond a few feet, the passage is dark - it has no illumination.

Try a Knowledge (Architecture & Engineering) check, DC 15:

Spoiler:
The shoring looks very recent, and competently done.

Try a Knowledge (Nature) check or Knowledge (Architecture & Engineering), DC 15:

Spoiler:
Judging by the mud coating all surfaces, it would appear that this passage was silted up until fairly recently before being dug out. It suggests the passage is very ancient, having been silted up by the river and abandoned after the stairs were cut and had seen extensive use.

You will need to specify lightsources if you go on.

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

Made the Knowledge (nature) check - 14+3=17.

"Hmmmm... This is an ancient passage; look at the mud here, it has been drowned by the river, which has then later receded again. This tunnel system is probably fairly extensive, much more so than it would have been if the kobolds and their masters had dug it out by themselves."

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

failed both knowledge rolls.
Rodergo'll light a torch.

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

"Hmm...trappers and ambushers. Trose want to lead the way?"

To clarify - the passage is 5' wide. The steps head upwards, curving gently to the north (they are running east initially).

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

Aw, crap - I edited my old post rather than reply... Well, here we go again.

Janosz points to the assortment of tracks on the floor. "As y'all can see, we have three main types of tracks here. Here we have giant tracks, which probably come from the troll and the ogre. Over here we have smaller ones, which are probably from gnolls or burly men. And here and here, we have small, clawed feet. Those are kobold tracks. While the gnoll told us about the kobolds, the tracks seem to indicate that there are quite afew of them - and we should keep in mind that kobolds are fond of traps and trickery. (Knowledge (dungeoneering) 13+3=16 - this is pretty much common knowledge, right?). Thus, we need to keep on our toes - though we have beaten their gatekeeper, we are far from done."

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

"Want me to walk up to where the corridor bends north and have a look?"

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

"Absolutely not. Leave that to me or Trose - or, preferably, both of us."

Male Human Rogue 3/Urban Ranger 1/Dragonmarked Heir 2

I draw out a sun rod, and check to see if my short sword was damaged by the innards of the troll.

Then, I creep up to the edge of the corner, and take a moment to listen. If I don't hear anything, I will light the sun rod up, and throw it down the hall way.

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

I'm right behind Trose. Should we roll our Listen checks ourselves, or should Aubrey take care of it?

Male Human Rogue 3/Urban Ranger 1/Dragonmarked Heir 2

I vote for him rolling, because at some point my luck is going to normalize, and it will be bad...

yer right. I just felt bad; I never do nothing, and you guys get smeared; I figured I oughtta at least be a trap monkey for a while.

The joys of playing the cleric ... but nah, we can't risk letting our healer get smeared by a trap!

Spoiler for Trose:

Spoiler:
The stairs continue up straight to the north. There seems to be a landing, about 20' further on, though Trose cannot see beyond the end of the stairs from where he is.

Lightbringer grips his sword and waits, alert for any sign that Trose and Janosz are running into trouble.

Male Human Rogue 3/Urban Ranger 1/Dragonmarked Heir 2

I will slowly repeat the process, recovering the sun rod, moving forward, listening, and then throwing it as far as i can. The point is to keep myself in the light for the shortest time possible, and to hopefully direct any response to the wrong place.

Trose throws the sunrod up the stairs, where it clatters to a halt.

Listen roll from Trose. If you get 12 or more:

Spoiler:
You hear sounds of stealthy movement at the top of the stairs.

If you get 17 or more:

Spoiler:
You are fairly sure you hear the sound of a crossbow being loaded.

Male Human Rogue 3/Urban Ranger 1/Dragonmarked Heir 2

It worked once for a tramp freighter captain...

"CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! !!!!!!!!"

And then I proceed to do so, well not really a charge because I have no target, but I will move up the stairs at my best speed.

If I can, I will take the fighting defensivly option...

Bluff = 12 + 2 + 4 (action point) = 18

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

"Um... What the... Well, why not?" Grabbing his greatclub, Janosz bounces to his feet and runs after Trose, roaring an Orcish warcry.

I stay a bit behind Trose, though - I don't want to spoil his bluff. After all, we probably sound scarier from around the corner...
