I was taken out of context!
But it does sound like a plan ...
It seems like Gil wants to do some sort of magical recon / strike as well, but I don’t think we should let her get too far away on her own – harder to get to her to help if it all goes south.

79/79 hp, 0 nonlethal; Effects: ; Perception +16, vs traps +20; Guise: Non-descript male gambler

Gil was itching to use her magic to do something unusual, but she understands strength in numbers well enough.

"Sounds like we stay together, then." At her next opportunity, she will hunker down behind a wall, out of sight for a few moments. When she shows herself again, she has the appearance of a lithe female elf with coppery hair and green eyes. Her clothing retains the neutral browns and grays of the camouflage she had been wearing earlier. She winks at Runzyl, "No offense intended. How did I do?"

Disguise 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (1) + 21 = 22

She will follow along, bow ready.

Runzyl appraises the changeling's disguise coolly. "Convincing enough," he states flatly. "But you look more like a city elf than a Valenar... if that was your intent."

He similarly unlimbers his longbow and knocks an arrow.

79/79 hp, 0 nonlethal; Effects: ; Perception +16, vs traps +20; Guise: Non-descript male gambler

With a wink and a smile, "I would not presume to impersonate a Valenar, so I guess a city elf was the goal."

And it never fails - have I ever rolled better than 5 on a Disguise check?

OK, so what is the arrangement?

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

My suggestion - we advance in a single file up the BG row, hugging the west side of the BF wall. Janosz, Runzyl and Rolund lead, along with Gil to create covering illusions if needed. The big lugs bring up the rear, and try to hunch over a bit to maximise cover.

Sounds ok.

Let's do it!!!

Order:

Janosz
Runzyl
Rolund
Gil
Ez
Rodergo
Lightbringer
Basher
Bor

how far do we want to intersperse? 5 feet, or all in a row? And do we want to have them canted left-right-left to minimize line spells?

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

5' intervals ought to do it. There doesn't seem to be any positions that offers a good line of fire down the wall, so a straight line should be OK.

Just remember that Rod, LB, Bor, and Rolund have a movement of 20'. So you'll have to go as slow as us; slower if we're using stealth.

Also, start prepping before we engage. Rolund will cast bull's strength before we move.

hp 73 of 156; AC 23 (29); Fort +15, Ref +8, Will +13 Warforged Paladin 9 / Exorcist of the Silver Flame 4; Effects: Bless, Airwalk, Weapon of Awe, Ironskin, Bull’s Strength

I don’t think there’s much value to us using stealth (at least not the entire group) if we are all moving in together; we’ve certainly already been seen, and some or us (Basher and LB in particular) are completely rubbish at stealth. There may be some value in using the wall as physical cover as Janosz suggested. But I agree, we should move at a pace that the slowest can keep up with.

Got some prep to do - bear with me.

Still working on it - but should be back on tonight.

Map updated.

Perception checks, DC 22:

Spoiler:
You spot a group of warforged crouching in a nearby field (roughly AQ-BA/64) as they rise to fire their crossbows. (You are not surprised. Roll initiative.)

hp 73 of 156; AC 23 (29); Fort +15, Ref +8, Will +13 Warforged Paladin 9 / Exorcist of the Silver Flame 4; Effects: Bless, Airwalk, Weapon of Awe, Ironskin, Bull’s Strength

Can’t make the perception check. Hrrrm, I see we are not actually on the road – I guess we should head through the adjacent field and make for the opening to the north?

79/79 hp, 0 nonlethal; Effects: ; Perception +16, vs traps +20; Guise: Non-descript male gambler

Perception 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15 +3 vs traps

Not a good time to be distracted...

Everyone needs to try the check - it determines surprise.

HPs: 96 / 96, APs: 11/8 Effects: Karnnathi Wizard (Universalist) 12 / Cataclysm Mage 1

Perception 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

Perception Janosz 10+16=26.

Perception Basher 12-1=11.

Perception Bor 11+12=23.

"Incoming!"

Rod, Roly and Runzyl to make Perception checks.

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

Um, and initiatives: Janosz 13+6=19, Bor 12+0=12.

Yes, those would be good too.

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7.

Init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15.

Basher Init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14.

HPs: 96 / 96, APs: 11/8 Effects: Karnnathi Wizard (Universalist) 12 / Cataclysm Mage 1

Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

LB fails perception check.
LB Init: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Bor Init: 1d20 ⇒ 10

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

UPDATE!

That gives us:

Ezreal 22
Rodergo 20 (not surprised)
Janosz 19 (not surprised)
Rolund 15
Basher 14
Bor 12 (not surprised)
Lightbringer 8

Gil ? (but she's surprised, so it doesn't matter for Round 1)

Enemies ?

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

Percep 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Init 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

dude. I am churning out 20's lately like nothing else.

Enjoy the 20s - for they are fickle and apt to desert you.

We're also waiting for Runzyl. Oh, and Fatey, Fabes DS game is kicking off too.

You know- the tower guys haven't necessarily seen us already. We have like +26 to +33 circumstance mods to our stealth rolls since we are way far away. Surely they get some kind of watchtower bonus as well, but we'll see.
If they have spotted us, Gil and I could coordinate our inits. I dimension door myself, Gil Runyzl and maybe Rolund into the bell tower. Gil acts immediately after me with a readied action to silence us, and we commence dispatching the scouts. Of course Gil and I are silenced during that fight. She can maybe use silent spells, but I'll just be cowering.

Sorry for the delay. Been sick from work the last couple days and still no internet at home (coming Thursday!). Currently poaching a friends' wifi during a brief visit.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

I'd be happy for the 30's again.

".....hello, darkness, my old friend,...."

Sorry guys. I've got to pick spells for a baddie and it's really hard - so, in grand tradition, I've put it off. I'll get to it today.

Initiative checks:
Archers: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Ezreal 22
Runzyl 20+
Rodergo 20 (not surprised)
Janosz 19 (not surprised)
Rolund 15
Basher 14
Crossbow warforged 13+ (not surprised)
Gil 13-
Bor 12 (not surprised)
Lightbringer 8

Three warforged, their armour smeared with mud for camouflage, rise up from behind the far wall and open fire with crossbows.

Though, of course, Rod and Janosz get to go first. See, all things come to he who waits.

Map updated.

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

Rod'll move to BG 93, and cast magic circle of protection from evil on Lightbringer; then he starts calculating a way to get most of the currently spread out party members in the zone of his blessing of fervor.

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

5' step to BG 84 before opening up on C3.
Attack 1 (w/Manyshot): 11+16=AC 27, damage 2d8+6=18
Attack 2: 12+16=AC 28, damage 1d8+3=7
Attack 3: 12+11=AC 23, damage 1d8+3=5

It is a surprise round, and you do only get one action. You can 5' step and fire once, and you can move or cast a spell.

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

Cast the spell on myself then.

Just this, then:

Janosz Frogshanks wrote:

Janosz's arrows hit home, but not hard enough to incapacitate. The warforged open fire, aiming for the individual in the open: Runzyl.

Attacks:
C1: attack 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27, damage 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
C2: attack 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28, damage 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
C3: attack 1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 13 - 2 = 28, damage 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

C3's hit is a potential crit: 1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 13 - 2 = 27 to confirm, extra damage 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

Bor.

The Valenar gains almost preternatural awareness of the ambush just as the bolts are fired (yay Uncanny Dodge), but despite his reflexes the shots find purchase through his armor. Fortunately, his wounds are only superficial, though one bolt is deeply embedded in his thigh. (28 of 110 HP lost)

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

Bor, having no bow, moves to BH-BI 92-93.

Ezreal.

HPs: 96 / 96, APs: 11/8 Effects: Karnnathi Wizard (Universalist) 12 / Cataclysm Mage 1

Using the wall for cover and creeping along eyes on the watchtower, seconds go by before Ezreal understands that everyone is under attack. The mage darts up ahead to the corner of the wall and drops down behind it while casting. Five ghostly finger bones appear in his hand and as he hurls them up over the wall they take on a life of their own streaking toward one of the warforged.

Move to BG91, drop prone for cover.
