Mage armor pre-cast by Anthony
The man continues down the street, passing by Vaek and heads north, disappearing into the distance.
The streets are quiet and empty for another 10 minutes or so as the group settles in for the wait.
Anthony hears a footstep behind him only a moment before a blade slams into the back of his legs with a clang of metal, and sparks flying. A grungy looking halfling with a pair of wakizashi hammering away at him. Beneath the clothing is the gleam of a mithral chain shirt. Unkempt sandy brown hair covers his head.
Immediately from the northern narrow alleyway is the sound of running feet coming from the east with the clinking of metal.
Drovic Init: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Sic Init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Anthony Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Vaek Init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Sorad Init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Smet Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
That is Smet near Vaek, who delays for the moment.
Sic, Drovic, and Sorad are up

Eidolon Krast |

So this person just snuck up and attacked a beggar in a side alley? Also, in the original map, I asked to be placed on the bottom side of the road to vaek, but now I appear to be topside. Lastly, that is possibly the worst "ambush" positioning of our team ive ever seen, are these really per player selected positions?

Eidolon Krast |

Im still a bit off on why im being attacked, it seems very random...I dunno, maybe ive just put too much stock in being the ambusher and not the ambushee?

Sorad Dvorak |

Probably someone cast detect magic on you. Although how we all failed our perception checks for that and for the people sneaking up, I'm not sure. Dang distance penalty. :P

Eidolon Krast |

Sound like they expected an ambush then. Im starting to think those boots allowed an actual scrying on them or something then. Distance penalty is bullcrap on an open street with no people on it anyway

GM Ascension |

Here is the correction with Anthony on the other side of the street properly disguised.
As Sic glances back and forth between the two streets running past his hiding spot he feels a sudden sharp pain in his leg while looking out at the main street, the wound leaving a jagged a bleeding tear.
Attack roll d20 + mods = 22. Damage d4 + 3d6 + mods = 19. Bleed damage of 3. Sic needs to make a DC 13 fort save
Can't update the map at the moment, but as before save the hafling is next to Sic instead, and Anthony is across the street. I'm also going to move Smet to the rooftops above Anthony to try and keep him out of melee.
Sorad, Drovic, and Sic are up.

Sorad Dvorak |

I'm guessing that because all of them are expecting combat there is no flat-footedness? If that is there and I won't get attacked, I will instead move behind him to flank.
Sorad quickly downs his potion of mage armer (defensively), then steps forward menacingly to the man trying to come up behind Vaek.
You should leave, friend. Things are about to get dirty.

There are no visible threats near Vaek. That extra icon is Smet the sorcerer. The other peasant has been gone for about 10 minutes now.

Eidolon Krast |

Lol, so basically we ended up even worse off with the retcon, I guess I should just learn to keep my mouth shut. I suggest we just leave right now, this seems entirely pointless.

Sicsivicus |

HP = 41/60
Fort Save DC 13: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Ahhh!.. What in the nine hells is your problem shorty?...
Sic's eyes widened in shock at the midget before bolting from the alley clutching his wound.
Withdraw to R.26
Gaining the corner the half orc hissed a whispered warning through Tony's spell.

Eidolon Krast |

Not sure on the map, but if you could lure him into charging up to you right next to the alley, I could five step out and full attack him.

Drovic Rylin'dar |

Drovic moves over toward the alleyway where he hears the commotion (M33). He sends a curse at the halfling.
Evil Eye -2 to his saves (9 round(s)) (DC 19-Will)

GM Ascension |

Will save d20 + mods = 13
From his position Drovic can see four common guardsman running down the side alley. Three wear chain shirts and draw longswords. The fourth wears a breastplate and holds a quarterstaff.
A moment late several more figures appear, coming in from the side streets to the north.
The first is a woman flying on the winds, rising up above the rooftops. I40 Her skin is pale, a beautiful face framed by blonde hair. Rich looking and spotless clothing adorns her body. By Vaek's description this is the woman who scarred him.
One in chain mail with a light crossbow K40. The mans clothes do not look as though they have been washed in some time, dirty and ragged. His head is covered in unkempt black hair, a mustache and goatee covering part of his face.
Another in full plate and wielding a scimitar K41, cloak trailing behind him as he moves.
The third wearing full plate with spikes jutting out of it, and carrying a bardiche K42. Several spears and javelins also poke above his shoulder. Probably the man who roughed Vaek up a bit.
The halfling back pedals, disappearing from Drovis view to the east as he turns a corner into a side alley L39.
Anthony and Vaek are up
Home internet was having problems, so no map update at present, if you need a map before taking your turn I'll get one up tonight and start the 24 hour turn around time then.
Note for Sic, you also bled for 3 damage on your turn.

Eidolon Krast |

Ill wait for a map, Ive kinda lost track by now. Btw, who do we want to target first? The scimitar and bardiche bruisers cant have too much AC and they are likely to hit like trucks, so they might be a good start, although the flying caster might be trouble. I guess Drovic could try for a sleep hex once shes in range to get attack by us, since unconcious fliers drift to the ground (I think)

Eidolon Krast |

Just to be clear, can they see us on their map, namely me, sic and Vaek? I assume the reason we see them on ours is due to Drovics line of sight, and im not sure if their flying caster can see us. Assuming they cant see us...
Drawing forth power from his suit, Anthony turned invisible, heading down the street towards the nearby alley (No numbers on map, but Anthony ends his move two squares east of Vaek) He quickly whispered through the message spell as he went. "I am going to be speeding us up in a moment so do not go too far, use the time to prepare, cast any spells you will need."

Eidolon Krast |

Anthony whispered back, a grin unconsciously splitting his lips, a whisper of excitement in his voice. "Excellent, lets coordinate a combined strike, try to drop someone quickly."
Lets see if we can set up a full attack gank on one of them. Probably wont be able to since they would have to stop within a 5 foot step up us but if we get lucky we might be able to anticipate a double move or something. The alleys certainly help in this regard.

GM Ascension |

The caster is about 10' in the air. You and Sorad are out of sight. She would be able to see the top of Vaek's and Sic's heads at the moment.
Vaek is up

GM Ascension |

Vaek GM PC'd
Vaek pulls himself up close to the buildings on the north then draws his short sword. Anthony vanishes from sight, then moves into the street.

Round 2
The guards spread out, with two moving into the main street while the third stands near where Drovic is on the roof above. The woman dressed in a breastplate and also wearing a guard uniform moves up 30' then holds forth a holy symbol which glows blue briefly as she casts a spell, a light ripple of blue light radiates outward from her then fades.
Despite having a good view, you are uncertain what the spell is.
Smet whispers, "Going to see if I can put a few of these guardsmen down."
Smet begins the work of casting a spell.
He begins casting sleep. Will complete at the start of his next turn.
Sic and Drovic are up

Drovic Rylin'dar |

Drovic points at the flying caster.
Ανοιχτόχρωμο δέρμα σας θα κάνει μια καλή προσθήκη για τη μάσκα μου
He reaches in his pouch and retrieves a rotten egg. Holding it forth, he speaks arcane words (Stinking Cloud) DC 19 Fort Save
@J40 which should hit the entire visible group if the witch is 10 ft off the ground.
كفر مي برثرس!، كفر مي برذرس!
Cover my retreat brothers.
Move to O27 by moving straight west 20ft then diagonal (feather falling) behind Vaek.

Sicsivicus |

Bleed damage -3 / HP = 38/60
Sic was leaking and leaking bad...damn half man got me good...gonna have to pay the little bastard back in kind...make it ten fold bub...
5' step to R.26
The half orc retreated a little further into the alley, retrieved a potion from his pack and sucked it down.
Cure Moderate Wounds: 2d8 + 2 + 38 ⇒ (7, 8) + 2 + 38 = 55

Sicsivicus |

Yah, I scored with a dice roll there. As to the +10, I thought potions were considered to be crafted at the minimum level needed to cast the spell? Which should've been 3rd so +3? I'll take the additional +1 though.

Eidolon Krast |

Maybe its a house rule of mine thats crept into my rules memory, but I always recall cure light potions being 1d8 + 5, or in other words, that potions have the max level based bonus.

GM Ascension |

Potions take the min, though that is a good house rule to give some oomph to potions in future games I do.
The sound of multiple people coughing and spluttering at the result of Drovic's spell proves its effectiveness.
Sorad, Vaek, Anthony go ahead and state actions. With the stinking cloud you have no sight of anyone except the guardsman that came out front.

Eidolon Krast |

Letting the suit do its work, Anthony performed automated hand motions, releasing a burst of speed to his allies. He then set off towards the other side of the street, diving into the alley ahead.
Cast Haste, then move to the alley below where Drovic is on the old map. Not sure on Sorads position, but he mentioned moving up behind Vaek during his last turn so im guessing he is in range of the haste? So should affect everyone except Smet?

Not in range according to the map, but I can go before Tony does, move to within range, ready an action to move back after being hasted, and be done. So I'll effectively be giving up my turn.

Eidolon Krast |

So im the designated Vaek handler, but without knowing the limits of the Stinking Cloud im gonna hold off on stating an action. Can we get some sort of visual effect on the map?

GM Ascension |

Eidolon Krast |

"Sorad, handle the guardsmen would you." Anthony quickly whispered. With one of them blocking the path into the alley, Anthony instead moved to the house, intending to climb to the roof.
Squeezing up against the building at N 32, readying to climb to the roof next round.

Eidolon Krast |

Vaek turns invisible as a swift action, then runs to the end of the road at O 52, hoping to double around the building next turn to hopefully relay some intel through the message spell.

Drovic Rylin'dar |

Round 3
Drovic activates his flight hex and flies up 15 feet and over to L33. He looks and listens in multiple directions for enemies. Perception +10
Flight: (59 rounds)
Evil Eye Hex on Halfling: (7 more rounds)
Stinking Cloud: (4 more rounds)
Mage Armor: (3 more hours)

GM Ascension |

Sic's bleeding stops with the downing of his potion.
Round 3
One guard, north in the side alley, calls to his comrades, "Spread out, they've wizards among them."
Another, seeing Vaek vanish from sight, shouts back, "One of em has gone invisible."
The two on the main road drop their blades and draw bows as they move back to the east, each then takes a shot at Smet on the roof.
Anthony could take an AoO against the first guy, but I'm assuming he doesn't want to break his invis just yet.
d20 + mods = 4, 16. Damage d6 + mods = 1
Concentration check d20 + mods = 20.
The third comes out of the side alley and stops to maintain distance from his companions.
Smet's spell goes off, targeting the one closest to Drovic, but has no effect.
Will save d20 + mods = 20
Smet steps back from the edge of the roof to get out of sight of the two archers.
Taking back to the air Drovic can not see anything new from his current vantage point.
Everyone, except Drovic who already stated his actions, though if he wants to change them to deal with the mook guards he can, state actions for round 3.

Eidolon Krast |

Wouldnt Smet more likely keep the spell ready instead of wasting it on a single guard? Keep the threat of the spell hanging over their heads as a threat if they try to make a move in any direction as a unit. Ofcourse I dont know how much intelligence Smet has, but it cant be much worse than the guardsmens.
Trying to cover for Vaek and increase his own power, Anthony cast a spell, hoping the guardsmen would think it Vaek who had just disappeared. Surging with might, he clambered up the side of the building.
Climb: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Standard Action, Cast Bulls Strength, Move Action, Climb the building moving to L 32. This assumed the house isnt more than 10 feet tall (20 feet of movement to climb, 20 feet to move onto the roof.)
"I am right behind you Drovic." He whispered through the Message spell, tapping the roof lightly with his foot as he did. "Get behind me if you need cover."

Eidolon Krast |

Hmm, I wonder if you could ready a full round spell by using two Standard actions of two turns to cast it. Move and begin on turn one, then possibly move and ready on turn two.
"Let the others move up first, then do it. Hit their caster with sleep if you can and ill try to take her out." Anthony replied as he looked down from the roof, trying to catch a glimpse of anyone below.
Basically dismiss it next turn and pike their caster with sleep. I can then try to get to her and full attack before they can wake her. One question for our GM though. How do you handle going unconscious while under the effect of a fly spell? Ive looked into it, but it seems like a grey area, although I like this quote:
You need to concentrate on flying to fly, so if you stop concentrating, you fall to the ground because you automatically fail all fly checks to remain flying-- you also can't move more than half your speed so you can't remain flying.
Technically, dying or going unconscious doesn't knock you prone, either.
People also seem to favor using the rules for the spell ending, with the person descending slowly to the ground.

GM Ascension |

Stinking cloud (along with many conjuration type spells) is not dismissable except by dispel magic. Most spells have a:
Duration 1 round/level D
It's the D that indicates dismissability for spells. Otherwise they run their full course. It's a painful side effect of all the 'fog' spells.
For unconscious flying I'd have them drift down to the ground (ie, as though the spell had ended). E.g, removing the magic completely via dispel magic shouldn't be less of a problem than removing a casters ability to actively control that magic. (Course being unconscious is an entirely different problem on its own).

Sicsivicus |

Whispering through the spell in their guild tongue, Sic hissed his plan.
Bah! We're juiced thanks to Tony. Hit 'em fast and hard. I'm gonna circle around to the east and flank 'em. Don't give 'em time to catch their breath.
The last was punctuated with a throaty chuckle as the brute took off at a heightened lope.
Hasted run = 240' movement right? if so Sic moves to N.55. Unless he sees an enemy from Q.55 then Sic will stop there.
