Just realized Sic still had a standard action. Sic will delay to see if the guards buy Vaek's story.

If they buy it:
Then no action necessary.

If they dont:
He cast Obscuring Mist and calls out in Cyclopian Head back to the rope shop!

As the guards come up, Sorad gives the drow a tight squeeze, hoping to take him unconscious.

Grapple: 1d20 + 11 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 11 + 5 = 19

Auto damage if grapple is sustained: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

The man's story is true. I saw the drow run out and figured joining the chase might gain me favor with Jumai.
Bluff assist.

As Sic and Saul run forward to intercept the guards advancing from the south Maeltheron ducks behind the corner of one of the houses.

Vaek gives Maklo two nasty cuts as Sorad holds the drow in place, punching him once in the face with his free hand.

Maklo remains standing and conscious. He screams in defiance and brings his blade to bear against Vaek Attack d20 + mods = 22 - damage d8 + mods = 8 - Vaek is down to 15 HP.

"Drop your weapons now and surrender yourselves. We do not allow vigilantism here." The guards rush forward. As they do so Sic releases his spell and vapors of mist spread outward from him obscuring all vision beyond 5'.

More shouts from the guards:
"Spell casters."
"Encircle them."
And the chanting of a spell caster.

The three guards from the east step into the mists and lay about with their blades against Sorad. Attacks d20 + mods = 18, 23 (confirm 11), 7. Sorad has a -4 to dex from grappled condition and is hit twice (concealment 20% miss chance d100 = 46, 54). Damage d6 + mods = 5, 5

Two of the guards from the south move in next to Saul, their blades are drawn but they do not attack.

The sound of a horn blares over the noise of combat.

Maeltheron:
Standing outside of the mist you see four spinning globes of light fly skyward.

Why do you say I am down to 15 HP if t he drow only hit me for 8?During the fight in the guild house, I was down as low as 32, and I was healed up to 40. So shouldn't I be at 32?

Vaek wrote:

Actually no. Being grappled gives a -4 penalty to dex, but does not make a character lose their dex bonus altogether. So you only did 18 damage total between those hits. Still attack Maklo again this round or vanish and flee?

Grappled

Sorad smashes Maklo's face up against the wall of the small home, arms twisted behind his back. Vaek ignores his words though disappearing from sight.

Saul dashes around the south corner of the rope shop, putting distance and buildings between himself and the fracas.

One of the guards next to Sorad drops his blade and attempts to grapple the dwarf with the aid of his companions d20 + mods = 15 but is unable to get a solid group. He calls out in a loud voice, "Captain, there are three or four running west." Two more guards emerge from the mist next to Sorad.

Maeltheron:
Diguri scowls at the news. "It can't be helped for now, but we will need to deal with Maklo later. Ilvaria will have a number of papers in her desk, gather those for me. Loot anything else of interest to you, but be quick about it. For now we assume the stronghold is compromised. There is a tavern near the heart of the city called The Crow, gather the others if you can find them and be there at dawn." A cold smile touches her face - but her expression is one of eagerness, "I have work to do this night." She opens the door to her own quarters and steps inside.

Sorad steps away from the guards and drinks his potion of invisibility.

To the east someone evokes an incantation. Caster level check to dispel d20 + mods = 25. The obscuring mist fades to nothingness as though burned away by a sun.

The guards grab Maklo from behind. The sickening crunch of a hilt against the back of his head echoes off the nearby wall and a groan from the drow is witness to the rough treatment he receives from the guards.

"What happened to the other one?"
"Drank a potion and vanished. He's got to still be close though."

Failure to kill him outright. The dirty drow was strong. Would he compromise the guild? of course he would, he has nothing to lose. Perhaps, we can use him as an advantage.

Ideas raced through Vaek's mind. How would it be perceived. Would the desired effect occur, or just bring the wrath of the mageocracy upon the guild? No matter, it was worth the risk, we will now likely be on the run.

Vaek doubles back to Maklo. He being careful, he looks for the opportune time to get close to the unconscious drow. And plant a black feather inside his armor.

From the guards perspective this is still a combat situation, so no new surprise round or form of surprise is available.

Most of the guards fan out, moving very slowly and listening intently.

Two of the guards sheathe their swords and lift the unconscious drow. They begin making their way east towards the tavern. Sorad plants a foot in Maklo's face as they begin to move him.

The sudden reappearance of the monk brings a multitude of shouts.

The captain gestures and speaks the words to another spell.

Sorad needs to make a DC 18 will save against enchantment. Failure to do so means you cannot move.

Half a dozen blades clatter to the ground and many of the guards near Sorad pull their short bows off their backs and launch a volley of arrows Attacks d20 + mods = 7, 20, 3, 19, 5, 7 - two will hit if the save is failed, otherwise all the arrows miss.

Vaek begins making his way towards the guards again, moving silently.

@Saul, there is an inn a dozen blocks to the west, right near the wall itself. The inn keeper is at times involved with the guild in getting things into or out of the city over the wall. You expect you could get a room there to hide out for a time - assuming he wasn't targeted by the drow.

Maeltheron, Anthony - and Sic joining you before the lock is opened:
It takes Maeltheron a little over a minute to get the lock opened.

A bed adorns the southwest corner of the priestesses room. A single red silk sheet covers it.

A desk rests against the east wall, a small stack of papers sitting on the north end of it. A simple ink well and quill near the stack.

In the southwest corner is an oak wardrobe. The lower half contains three closed drawers, the upper half a cabinet with the doors closed.

Going through the drawers of the desk reveals a stack of blank paper. The wardrobe contains several changes of clothing, varying from beggars rags, commoners clothing, and a high society silk dress. There is also a small lock box at the back of the wardrobe.

Maeltheron, Sic, Anthony:

Anthony leaves the room to deliver the paperwork to Diguri. She returns from her chambers dressed in dark leathers, a composite longbow and quiver of arrows across her back. A pair of well made sturdy boots adorns her feet. A haversack is slung over one of her shoulders into which she stuffs the papers. "Use the forbidden entrance to leave here - take Cheyle when you go. See you at dawn." She pulls some kind of rod from her bag and heads towards the dining hall.

After the paralyis wears off, he sets to work on disarming the lockbox, taking his time to disable the device, then to pick the lock after being successful.

Disable Device: Take 10 for a 25

Thank you gentlemen. After we see what is in this box, let's quickly gather what we can, then be off to tell the others about the dawn meeting.

Maeltheron will gather a handful of poisons, antitoxins, and healing potions.

Will: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14

Well, this will be interesting. I guess I deserve it for being stupid. Nice playing with y'all

@Sorad: Vaek is still there, you might have a chance yet...all it takes is one round of distraction and you can try to save again...atleast if its the spell I think it is :)

Hmmm thats very true Sic, good thinking.

Anthony will stuff his Haversack with whatever noteworthy (ie. valuable) items he can raid together with Sic.

Anthony noded at the Mistress

Tomorrow then. Ill head out emideatly. Those city guards up top will most likely be all over the area soon enough, best to get out sooner rather than later. And theres always a chance ill run into the others.

Walking over to Cheyle, he re-attatched the rope on their wrists before hauling her towards the forbidden exit. Before stepping outside he turned to her, grabbing her by the wrist, and handing her sword back to her.

I really want to believe that people are better than their reputation, but the Mistress is right. You are Drow, and I do not know you well enough to dispel that reputation in your case. I have been made responsible for you, but I cannot walk arond waiting for you to betray us again. So im giving you a choice. Come with me to The Crow...Or cut this rope between us and escape into the night. Whatever you choose I will be free of worry.

HAHA. so just to meta game for a second. Assuming this is a hold person spell. What would qualify as a distraction? would me yelling be proficient or am I going to have to become visible? with something of an attack? Throwing a rock? breaking a window?

Or we can just do a prison break, which could be a fun event.

With being paralyzed Sorad loses his dodge bonuses and has an effective dex of 0 (give another -5 to AC). Which means the crit did confirm, and 3 more arrows hit as well. An additional 5d6 = 19 more damage.

Yes it is a hold person. Sorad can take a full round action to attempt a new will save to break free. The distraction part he might need is a way to escape from all the guards who are about to jump on him and tie him up. Sorad can attempt his first will save to break free now. He is currently prone at his shown location on the map.

@Maeltheron, you will need to make 5 more fort saves at DC 15. Two consecutive saves will end the effect. Each failed save will result in more con damage. You will get a +5 to the saves on the last two when Sic returns with an antidote and administers it.

Cheyle tentatively asks, "Leading me through the streets with a rope is going to draw attention. Keep my blade if you must, but if you'll allow me to walk without the rope I would come with you?"

@GM Ascension: ruling on Lockbox, please?

Not positive I'm understanding your question. The poison entry for this particular poison is:

Type poison, injury; Save Fortitude DC 15
Frequency 1/round for 6 rounds
EFFECT
Initial Effect paralysis; Secondary Effect 1d2 Con damage; Cure 2 consecutive saves

So the poison lasts for up to 6 rounds. Each round you must make an additional fort save or suffer from the effect. Two saves in a row cures the poison before it runs its full course.

Does that answer your question or am I misunderstanding what you are asking about?

As a con damage poison it is especially nasty because each failed save lowers your con, and thus also lowers your fortitude save for every 2 points of con damage.

I think he wants to know if he got the lockbox opened?
