Arcadia - Land of Opportunity (Inactive)

Game Master Nazard

Settlers colonizing far-flung Arcadia for the glory of Taldor and all of the Known World.

Hello all,

My group of intrepid colonists and I are looking for one or two brave additions to our group. The premise is that you are part of a joint Taldor-Pathfinder-House Avenstar (Absalom) endeavor to establish a viable and lasting colony in Arcadia. The ships have arrived and the colonists encountered trouble from a powerful magical field being created by an ancient artifact. The party has just deactivated the field, making it safe for colonists to finally land.

Any interested persons are welcome to submit concepts for characters. Basic guidelines are as follows:
Non-evil (preferably good)
25 point buy
Base races plus tiefling or aasimar
APG material welcome

At the moment, the party is looking for a divine caster. The campaign is very wilderness-oriented, and with very few dungeons, mounted characters are quite viable.

Our group will be deciding together on submissions, and we would like 1 or 2. We need a divine person, but some other great concept may convince us to enlarge our party somewhat.

OOC Thread

The current party make-up is: a half-elven ranger/sorcerer, a halfling draconic sorcerer, a halfling bard (GMNPC), and a human (Ulfen) barbarian.

Lawful Good Cleric or Inquisitor of Asmodeus, who does not exactly worship his god, but is rather bound to His Infernal Majesty by a contract signed by his father moments before his inception. His father wanted a son to continue his legacy, but the young one never really accepted all of the Asmodean church's teachings. So, he respects Asmodeus as god of Law and obligations and even magic, but he is feeling repulsed by the evil and corruption, so he decided to seek a future in new land.

His god is aware of his priest's feelings, of course, and for now HIM is content to let him seek his own path. The young one has proven useful in unearthing rotten apples in the barrel that is HIS church - prelates who skim to much from the top and similar things.

Finnegan Mac Morn

Human Rogue (Thug/Scout), hopefully survives long enough to become a Fighter (2 handed-weapon user). CG

Born from the Clan Mac Morn,Finnegan wasted a large part of the last few years, drinking, carousing and generally not taking responsibility for his duties as the son of a (Minor) Clan Chieftain.
In fact, he was passed out, drunk, when the Clan was attacked by marauding Gnolls. Finnegan's brother Brannagh was killed in the battle.
When he came to, he found an entire Clan that had turned their backs upon him, his behavior being blamed for Brannagh's death.
His mother inconsolable, his father refused to speak with him, other than to say "Where were Ye, Finn...?"
Finnegan looked down upon his brother's torn and mutilated form, and reached down, retrieving his brother's Bardiche, a ridiculously large weapon for him, and (Shouldering it) said "Da, Ma... I will set 'is ghost ta'rest, or wander the World in the tryin'..."
With that, he gathered what things he could carry on his back and left his home, perhaps forever...

Now, months later, he seeks new opportunities, new lands. A new life.

*****************************************************************

Might go Barbarian at Lvl 2, to represent his grief, raging 'channeling' his dead brother, instead of fighter.

Scarab Sages

I also have an Aasimar Oracle of the Heavens (Uriel) that I can scale back
(Playing a Lvl 7 version in a Planescape game)It would be cool to se what he looked like at Lvl 1, Or...Make Finnegan an Oracle of Battle, take the 'ghost' Curse, representing his brother, even (Hey, I like that...)
Regarding Finn, I'm more into the character background than rooted in any specific Class,so I'm open.

Shelyn was the closest the his life of carefree 'partying'. I figure that he was 'touched' and became an Oracle when r realized that he had to grow up (He is barely 19). If it wouldn't be too much trouble, would a switch from Glaive to Bardiche be an issue for the Favored weapon? Either way.

I have a halfling cavalier/gunslinger who rides an Axe Beak and totes a musket. I will get him a write up tonight and submit it for review. Is anything you would like to see done with him that you are lacking. Are the characters at 2nd level? I saw there was already on multi-classer. If first, then I will make adjustments. I chose an Axe Beak for the mount because I like the giant bird mount motif, but I think something even more exotic like a velociraptor or other smaller bipedal dino would be pretty nice, too. Let me know if I need to make any adjustments like axing the gunslinger class.

Here is a very quick stat block. I did not include equipment or mount pending inforamtion on what is and is not legal for this game.

A quick question. Is there any chance I could perhaps be allowed to make a Psion? If not totally understandable since Psionics Unleashed was not apart of your guidelines.

Seeing as Nightflier and Uriel's divine characters seem pretty awesome and I'm not exactly a big 'divine caster' type of person(mainly because I so rarely play them) I'll just go with a non-divine character and hope for the best ^_^

First suggestion

Asha Naleren, Tiefling Rogue(Scout) or if the current Ranger does not mind. Ranger(Beast Master) using the Natural Weapon combat style. I'd prefer the ranger but obviously if that won't work out I'm fine with Rogue.

Alignment: CG

Concept: As a child Asha was thrown out by her family due to her being a living embodiment of there ancestors deals with the demons of the lower planes many years ago. For a time Asha lived in the same town that her 'family' lived and took to the life of a street urchin surviving off of whatever means she could. This terrible existence was ended when a group of bandits invaded the town intending to raid it for all it was worth. During the ensuing battle between the guards and the Bandits Asha at the mere age of 10 decided to join the fray armed with nothing but a jagged piece of metal she'd found while watching the battle.

Even at such a young age Asha knew her current path in life was bound to end terrible, there were others far older than who lived in the streets of the town who were in a similar position to her and they had never escaped this, she hoped that perhaps in joining the battle she could cause at least enough of a distraction to let the guards turn the tide in there favor as the sight of a tiny frail girl in rags leaping at at least decently trained bandits would be enough to give anyone pause.

As luck would have it as Asha stabbed, punched, kicked, and bit at various Bandits a group that had been tracking the bandits arrived in town having followed there trail and joined the fray as well and with the additional numbers the bandits were defeated and much to her surprise Asha had survived though she received a few wounds. As the group prepared to leave Asha made a life altering decision, she followed them.

At first the group was reluctant to have her as they were not in the business of training children but once Asha explained her situation the group decided to take her on claiming it was "only to keep her from doing something as foolish as throwing herself at bandits again" and while that was part of the reason they also chose to bring her along because she had to have at least a bit of natural skill to have not died in the fight and because a few amongst them thought it best to not leave a child plagued with demonic blood with a bad impression of 'normal' people as with that natural talent she could perhaps grow to be something more like her demonic heritage.

After a number of years living and training with the group Asha eventually chose to leave in order to make her own mark upon the world, recently she has heard of plans to form a colony in Arcadia. Taking this as the perfect opportunity to make her mark on the world Asha moved to become apart of those being brought over as quickly as possible.

I submit Malcolm Cavendish...Paladin of Iomedae and Warrior of the Holy Light for your consideration. I will gladly re-adjust background and bump stats a bit. He was built with a 20 Point Buy.

Submitting Noche'Wa.

Dreaming Warforged here, I started then left very early in your parallel Arcadia game as I felt I just didn't match with the rest of the group. I play with Scranford and Markofbane in Kingmaker. My sheet will be ready tonight (in 10 hours or so) and my background adjusted to either have gotten on a boat or be a curious native.

Dreaming Warforged:
I'm intrigued with the idea of a native Skraeling as a PC. I run this homebrew as a RL game, and my parallel on these boards, and it had always been my intention to avoid having a native PC, as I really want the party to feel like a fish out of water. The party will encounter friendly and not-so-friendly natives soon enough, several of whom could potentially become semi-regular GMNPCs who accompany the party. If you wanted to try a native Skraeling, however, there might be something we could work out. It might be interesting for me to see how this campaign plays out with a Skraeling PC. E-mail me at gmnazard at gmail dot com and I can suggest some ideas that would work out well without derailing some of the story line. A wanderlust native who comes from far away would be easiest, or a very young native from closer by would also work.

Re-building stats to 25 point buy and background revisions. Any particular level? I noticed some of the PCs at level 2-3.

And, i took Rich Parents. Sinceyou mentioned needing a Divine caster, Any issue with taking a partially charged Wand, say half? If not, I'll buy a CLW wand (375GP).

While I don't mind the concept, a cleric or inquisitor of Asmodeus would never be let on the boat in the first place (for that matter, neither would an obvious Chelaxian), self-professed lawful good or not, so either he would have to have hidden his true devotions and ancestry, or you'll need to pick a different god.

Not because I don't think the concept would work with the party, but because of the extreme lengths the colonial leaders went to to fool the Chelish privateers who were waiting for them at the Arch of Aroden, including several serious deceptions, and several naval laws they broke in leaving Absalom. I suppose one could argue that if they were looking for a Chelish spy, a Chelish cleric of Asmodeus would be way too obvious to be a suspect, but these people would have adopted the better safe than sorry routine and kicked him off the boat.

I think the glaive as Shelyn's favoured weapon is extremely specific and canon to her following. I certainly have no issue with the partially charged wand.

Well, since I'm not 'really' playing with the miniature, the change isn't a big deal. (I like the word Glaive better anyways). As someone else mentioned, are these characters Lvl 1?2?

Malcom's new Background:

Nazard:

Spoiler:
Malcolm Cavendish was born the second son to a wealthy family of merchants in Absalom. The family had always worshiped at the Temple of Iomedae, but it was not until recently that Malcolm received the calling. He never took much of an interest in the family business, but instead spent much of his days training with arms and armor wherever his father was willing to foot the bill.

A traveling Paladin of Iomedae was introduced to Malcolm one day while at family worship, and Malcolm soon sought out the Paladin as his mentor. While he was skilled in the art of armed combat, he was still a novice in the ways of Iomedae. As his mentoring progressed, Malcolm became enthralled with the teachings, and he could soon feel the presence of his deity at his shoulder. He sought only to bring the holy light and glory of Iomedae to the darkest corners of the world. He planned to leave with his mentor as soon as possible.

Malcolm's father, in conjunction with House Avenstar, desired to spread his wealth with the assistnce of the House's colonization efforts in Arcadia. This led him to the conclusion that his second son could fulfill both his desires to travel abroad and give the family a toehold in the trade interests of the new colony. So, Malcolm was booked passage on the next ship headed to the colonozation effort. Malcolm felt blessed to finally be able to please his father and serve the greater glory of Iomedae.

The current characters still active just literally hit level 3, so all proposals should be at that level.

Varg the Wanderer - the Battle Oracle of Iomedae

Varg the Wanderer was born in Irrisen in the seventieth year of Queen Elvannia's reign to the wandering Ulfen skald and local witch descended from one of the earlier queens. Sickly as child, he almost did not survive the childhood, plagued by headaches and illnesses of the lungs. No witch or wise woman could find a cure for him and most of them advised his mother to leave him to the cruel winds and bitter cold to take him so that she can marry again, since his father left them when he was not yet four years of age.

She refused.

Defying the community, who scorned her for such weakness, she wowed to keep her son alive. Money was scarce, so she prostituted herself to the foreign merchants and jadwiga both male and female and even to the snow goblins - all that so she could buy expensive foreign alchemical substances that would for a short while ease her son's headaches and coughing. He was ostracised, beat upon and humiliated on every turn for years and years. He used his exclusion from the warrior games of other children to read the books from his late grandfather's rich library and to learn of other countries and other worlds, of other gods and other peoples. Unknown to him, his mother made two pacts so that she could keep him alive: One was with the mighty winter wolves and the other was with the foreign goddess called Iomadae the Inheritor. One of the she-wolves that lost her pups to the Andoran hunters allowed Varg's mother to milk her each day and feed that milk to her son in an exchange for the promise of revenge, because she knew that she can not ever leave the frozen lands of Irrisen, but her foster son could. That lasted until his fifteenth year. One morning, maddened by his continuing survival, cruel youth of Irrisen's capital ganged upon him and beat him bloody, puncturing his kidneys and lungs and breaking his left leg in two places. When he was brought back to his mother, he gave no signs of life. She pleaded to all the gods and demons she knew, but no one answered. No one, but the Lady Inheritor. An eagle as white as snow, with two heads and eyes of gold, flew through the window of Varg's room, not breaking the ice from which the window was made. Both heads spoke with silvery voices and offered a deal to Varg's mother: The young one will be healed of his wounds, and taken away from Irrisen, but from that moment on, he will serve the goddess. He will seek evil and fight it wherever it is and protect the week with his might and life. He may yet die some day in the future - but now he will live. And so it happen that Varg's mother accepted the offer of the Lady of the Blades. And that's the beginning of the tale of Varg the Wanderer.

Oh ok, is there anything in the back story that you feel does not make sense so that I can either give my take on it or perhaps fix it if I need to?

ya know, if I was going to jump on this campaign, the obvious gap I see is that none of the current characters possess (by description) the sorts of skills I'd want a settlement/colonization team to bring.

I see a HUGE gap for an 'Engineer/Scout/Pioneer' type with good knowledge skills who would be usefull for making cartography/engineering diagrams/scouting habitable areas etc.

If the campaign is really about the players just doing stuff on behalf of the settlers thats one thing, but if its truly about them being the forerunners/pioneers then they'd need the Engineer/Pioneer - just sayin!

(I like the campaign concept, thought it looked pretty cool p so just chiming in my 0.02 :p )

Just posting that I am still interested in the PbP...simply inquiring as to the status of the selection process. Thanks.

Is recruitment complete for this PbP?

We are still deliberating, as we have decided to accept three of these characters. I appreciate everbody's patience in this and we'll hopefully have an answer soon.

Thanks for the update Nazard.

Btw, just to mix things up further and make your deliberations more complicated, my medecine man concept could also be implemented through the current druid, or, through a barbarian/alchemist mix, where he uses natural alchemical ingredients found in plants, insects, fungi, molds, animals, etc.

Three instead of two? Makes me wish I had gone ahead and submitted.

Thanks Nazard...sorry, did not mean to be pushy.

Okay, folks. Thanks for your patience.

We've elected to go with three of the characters presented to us:
NocheWa the Wild Mouse
Varg the Wanderer
Finnegan MacMorn

Can those three players e-mail me at gmnazard at gmail dot com, and we'll quickly discuss how to get their characters introduced so we can get this game moving along again?

Thanks to all who submitted.

Reporting for duty...

Done.

Looking forward to this!

Thanks for consideration
