Winnow begins casting a spell a moment later.

I wouldn't mind being hasted if the offer still stands, Yaos! And nobody doesn't want to be invisible!

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Stealth: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (11) + 25 = 36

Unless anyone objects, The Bogeyman will strike before Winnow has the opportunity to finish casting his spell...

Object Bogeyman? I think it is a superb idea.

Pre-combat preparations taken by Yaos are-

1 Cast Invisibility and Haste on the Bogeyman. Yaos and Azlain are also invisible and Yaos is completely out of level 2 spells.

2 Use her Summon Monster IV SLA to summon two sets of Leopards with the aerial template.

Summon Leopards: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Summon Leopards: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

3 Yaos is going to take 2 of the Leopards with her when Yaos acts as she dimension doors next to the kids. These 2 leopards with then rip into Winnow.

4 The rest of the Leopards are going to charge through the door when it opens and rip into Winnow. Pale wing is going to follow, above and behind this group of leopards to give them the benefit of his aura.

Initiative, Yaos: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Male Human Investigator 3/Inquisitor 5

Yaos, might I suggest you cast Haste last? You're an 8th level Summoner, meaning you can affect 8 targets with your spell. There are only four PCs. Hasted minions are best minions.

Round 1, casting Shield of Faith, AC is now 24

Right before combat begins activating Bane. I assume Winnow is a human? Or that Magnius was able to figure out his race via his Local check?

Winnow's Shadow
Extraplanar, Incorporeal Cenobite

.

Becoming alert as its fellow servant of twilight and torture tends to The Midnight Lord's new slave-recruits, The Shadow becomes aware of The Bogeyman's presence outside, a monstrous voyeur.

Moving languidly, yet gracefully, The Shadow detaches itself from Winnow, almost certainly alerting the agent of Pangolais of a fresh victim (or victims) to offer to The Midnight Lord.

And floating, wafts ten feet from Winnow.

Note that due to Startling Presence, Winnow is flat-footed for the Bogeyman's turn and suffers a -4 penalty to attacks against the Bogeyman.

Also, due to being hasted, the Bogeyman's first attack is a 22, and he has a +1 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex.

Male Human Investigator 3/Inquisitor 5

Saying a quiet prayer to the king of Hell to guide his strikes Activating Judgement to gain a +2 bonus to hit, Magnius strides purposefully over and smashes Winnow on the head. I'm not sure if he's still sitting, but the image of Magnius literally braining him with his morning star is too amusing.

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28 for 1d8 + 4 + 1d6 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + 4 + (6) + (6, 4) = 23 the lone 6 in the middle is acid damage, if that matters.

Winnow
Agent of Pangolais in the Uskwood, Disciple of The Midnight Lord

.

Magnius' strike lands solidly upon Winnow's frame, both bludgeoning and piercing the Kuthite's flesh.

Except it doesn't.

It seems as though the shadow that seems to stay with Winnow is still present, even though you saw with your own eyes the Shadow detach itself,
revealing it's presence as the incorporeal, extraplanar undead that it was.

Nonetheless, a full shadow covers Winnow's frame -- and It rather than the barechested 'man' beneath it is what has been struck with Magnius' morningstar.

Perhaps this is what Yaos referred to when she said he was a different kind of Summoner, that he merged, or synthesized, with his Eidolon rather than kept it separately as Yaos does with Red Wing.

Even still, the shadowy Eidolon blanketing Winnow, while protecting him from physical damage, did not protect the Summoner/ Priest from the disruption such a sudden attack caused on his spellcasting.

Concentration Check: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (19) + 25 = 44 vs DC 39 (10 + damage + Spell Lvl)

Ormyr
Favored of Zon Kuthon

.

Winnow's spell complete, despite the rude interruption of Chelaxian malcontents, the ether of this abandoned room rips and a conjured nightmare from Zon Kuthon's own home appears floating in the room above the children. Ten feet above.

It looks a bit like a floating, frightening elephant seal but with a grinning human face, oblivious to the eruption of combat around it.

It's perpetual grin lights up at the presence of the children. "Ah, delicious," it undulates with saliva forming at its mouth, "Let us see if you have the worthiness to receive The Midnight Lord's blessing." And a long, black tongue protrudes from its mouth, impossibly long, and tests the children's cheeks, ears, mouths, noses and eyes, leaving no part of the face un-licked
in assessment.

Image???:
This is the closest thing I could find even though it's not really accurate. Apparently no one ever put an image of an Ormyr from 2E on Google Images. Think of the creature as sorta like this and sorta like Jabba the Hut.

The Ormyr is Large and is 10 feet above the children, around 12-13 ft off the ground hovering. Knowledge: Cosmology for identification

Winnow
Agent of Pangolais in the Uskwood, Disciple of The Midnight Lord

.

Rd 1:

Unsure of the purpose of this attack Winnow looks languidly at Magnius standing above him, wholly unconcerned by the two Leopards conjured five feet away from him, and curious about the power of the Wizard who Banished his comrade.

His biggest concern, apparently, is the Ormyr, despite having conjured it himself and despite the creature's either obliviousness or disregard for erupting combat.

Winnow's remarks are those of shame (embarrassment) and terror. "I beg forgiveness of this sacrilege, Wise One!"

And knowing he must not let these foolish Chelaxian fools either harm or take the children, or escape without suffering for their trespass, he acts accordingly.

Still with no emotion.

In a veritable instant Winnow becomes Invisible.

Only an instant later a ring of impossibly-fast flying razors, scalpel blades, needles, serrated blades and other fine cutting instruments surrounds Winnow, the children and Magnius (and Invisible Yaos & The Bogeyman). The ring is thick with whirling, even humming razors, like a swarm of locusts or bats.

The ring of blades reaches into the ceiling and, as you notice this, you realize the razors seem to be made of Shadows and Force rather than steel.

The edge of the ring forms whereupon Magnius stands, forcing him to either jump inside -- with The Bogeyman, Yaos, Winnow, two kids, and the Ormyr -- or outside with Azlain. In either case the razors and scalpels and needles slash at him without mercy.

This fool is worried about the creature he conjured! He will know better if we can take him alive and I deal with him. thinks Yaos as she hears Winnow. Her eyes take in the scene of an appearing monster and disappearing Summoner and Yaos speaks in aerial to her leopards "You two kill the floating creature, the rest of you wait outside the barrier until you can attack."

Then Yaos utters the incantations involved in the spell Dimension Door, placing one hand on each of the children as she finishes, the three of them disappearing and re-appearing not far outside the door to the house through which the party has recently entered.

The four leopards who entered via the door halt outside the blade barrier, airborne, rampant and snarling. The two inside the blade barrier charge the Ormyr, tearing into it savagely.

Yaos' Leopards fly up five feet and viciously attack the Ormyr as he just begins to test the children. The first Leopard manages to get one claw though the Ormyr's blubbery-gray flesh, sinking deep enough to draw blood, but very little of the viscous, black liquid trickles out. The second Leopard's claws and bite do not penetrate the Ormyr's hide.
(Leopard One hits w/ 1 Claw for two points of damage after DR.)

More importantly, Yaos steals his children, angering the creature for interrupting its tasty testing.

The Ormyr looks directly at Invisible Yaos as she Dimensions Door away with the children, and though he is unable to strike out at her as she casts, his pallid eyes follow Yaos outside of the house somewhere behind Azlain.

@ Yaos

Just no more Spoilers on the World Championship -- I'm sometimes a day (or three) behind.

Early in the mornings (right around this time) I try to half-listen to the Svidler Live analysis for a little while, up to the first three or four moves in the Opening. (Yes, it's also the time I use to come to the Boards Mon-Fri, my 'slower' office hour.) But I make sure I turn off YouTube after that because I really can't watch the six hour game live at work. ....When I get home at night I go back and watch the 20-30 minute analysis that Svidler does for the whole game and also the 15-20 minute analysis that Huschenbeth does.

Alas, not every night can I spend that hour watching Svidler and Huschenbeth go over the game. And, um, you told me the result of Game 11 before I had a chance to see it. Zoinks, Scooby!

So try to give me a couple days before you give me the result, perty please. (I don't have game 12 up now to listen to, and likely won't have time to watch it tonight so, SUPER please, don't tell me the result of Game 12, at least til late Wednesday -- I'll have had the chance by then to watch Game 12 Analysis.
.
.
.
.
I've actually been astounded at both Caruana's Opening preparation and Carlsen's seeming lack of Opening prep. But I think the games have been great, much better than Carlsen's Match against Karjakin.

And I know watching the Svidler Live analysis is fun because of Grischuk's spicy comments, but, I'm like, Dude, you're barely the same strength player as Svidler -- Why The Hell is Svidler deferring to Grischuk; you're equal or Svidler is slightly better! ....Needless to say I like how Anish Giri has stepped in for Grischuk. Giri is certainly stronger! There's a good chance it'll be him playing winning the Candidate's Tournament next and playing in a Championship.

Then, from beside Azlain, Mendacius the Imp (not so cute anymore) casts Glitterdust in the area of Winnow -- revealing him in a sparkling outline of colors and brightness of which can only be anathema to a servant of Shadow and Torture, a Disciple of The Midnight Lord. Truly slaves of The Shadow Plane despise the bright and colorful sparkles and glitters of Mendacius' spell.

Not quite. Red Wing is not summoned at present. Red Wing almost never is if Yaos is expecting combat as I can only have one use of Summon Monster if it is.

Second, what effect did the 2 leopards have on the Ormyr? Or at least what can I tell from looking?

Will Save DC?

HP 40/45, AC 21*, Fort +4, Ref +6, Will +8, ArcRes 2/8 Active Effects: Heightened Senses, Defending Bone (45), Extended Shield, Unseen Servant,

It's from a scroll. The blindness DC is 12. (i'm not a dummy, I know better than to toss high DC stuff at my allies)

Isn't it 13? You need a casting stat of 12 to cast a level 2 spell, which has a mod of +1, +2 for spell level +10. I think everyone saved anyway, The Bogeyman by the skin of his teeth.
