"Please don't be our ship. Please don't be our ship," Nosmo chants like a mantra as he huffs and puffs to keep pace with the rest of the party as they hustle off to investigate the disturbance.


You move through the entrance alcove past the living and recreation quaters into the airlock and into the repair bay.

The view of space through this recessed repair bay’s open southern wall is blocked only by a few starships docked outside. A ten-foot-high catwalk runs along the northern edge of the bay between a set of steep stairs at its western edge and an airlock door that exits to the north. A large power generator stands against the western wall and a control booth to the east, with a mass of robotic tools hanging under it, overlooks the area. The scorch marks of an explosion on the floor near the power generator.

Various pieces of automated machinery start to whir into action... while they can repair a ship it also seems clear they could do serious damage to you as well.

You determine from the positioning of the blast that it was likely no accident, but unfortunately, any debris was flushed out into space.

Shrapnel flies off the machinery before it strikes out at Trosvod, grabbing hold of him with huge pincers as sparks fly off his armour from the buzzsaw trying to carve through it.

The bioengineer is too distracted by his big friend's peril to properly assess the technical situation. He readies his rig and quickly calculates how he could intervene.

"Overload doesn’t affect androids, cybernetics, drones, powered armor, robots, or creatures with the technological subtype (all of which have shielding against this sort of attack), or items larger than Medium." Remote hack might just work though.

Trosvods squirming fails to get free but it does stop the blades focusing on an area long enough to pierce it.

Nosmo takes cover and activates his custom rig. He then attempts a remote hack of the machinery, trying to command it to release Trosvod. Nosmo finds that the machine is infected with a virus of some kind but he is able to hamper some of it's systems.
I am having the roll deal some damage and give it a penalty to attack rolls by it.

Now that Trosvod is free from the machinery, Nosmo draws and raises his hunting rifle to fire at the mechanical menace.

The machinery spasms for a few more moments before settling down... the threat ended.

"Don't expect any miracles with what I've got left, but I'll keep your internals from becoming externals," Nosmo says as he opens his medkit and proceeds to disinfect and bandage Trosvod's wounds.

The comms activates and you hear the voice of Hasachir- the local engineer modifying your ship. "I can see there's been a malfunction. I had a programme set to begin not long ago but something seems to have gone awry. From the visual feed I can see my equipment has been damaged and you've sustained some injuries, nothing permanent I hope?"


”Just our pride. If we could be allowed in, it would be appreciated.”


"Of course of course but the damage to the equipment will delay things a bit. I do hope you're enjoying the station."

In truth, Nosmo is simply keen to excuse himself from his attempt to patch up Trosvod. He has far more experience with such machinery than vesk anatomy. He stows his medkit and opens his rig to diagnose the issue, looking for potential sabotage.

Would this be an Engineering or Computers check?


Nosmo reflects on what he's previously discovered while it was active, it was definitely a virus meaning most likely sabotage. It would be hard to verify now with the state of the machinery but he knows what he saw.

"Definitely sabotage. Do you think this was a coincidence? It's never a coincidence, right?"

Nosmo's mind immediately leaps to the possibility of an Azlanti agent near at hand, attempting to stymie them.

"Should we check on the ship? What if they go after the ship next?"


Your ship's upgrades and repairs have all been put back several days... Nosmo would need to spend a lot of time going over the ship if he wants to be certain it's code hasn't been affected.


Sorry, it's been awhile...could I please have a recap of where we are now?


You're on Outpost Zed, an independent space station at the fringes of azlanti space, getting your shipped upgraded. There's been sabotage as the automated systems have damaged your ship and attacked you. You know the Azlanti have moved an ancient and unknown piece of FTL magically enhanced technology to a scientific station though so far have had little luck uncovering it's location. Aygavan is an Azlanti who has joined you but hasn't been near the equipment since joining your group and definitely has some form of grudge against his home state.


Although you have your suspicions you let the man get one with his repairs and settle in...

...the night after next while sleeping in the rejuvenation pod Elthaeron is awoken with a popping in his ears as if the pressure has changed, and he finds himself unable to breath. The opening mechanism for exiting the pod does not release leaving him trapped and unable to breath...

May I roll Perception to hear him pounding on the pod to get out? If I am alerted to his predicament, I could try to get him out.

Nosmo proves to be a very light sleeper, or perhaps it is simply fate that guides him to hear his ally's predicament.

The engineer leaps up and bounds over to help Elthaeron escape. When he finds the pod's hatch won't open manually, he quickly begins tinkering with the controls.

Engineering: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19 If Computers would be more applicable, then my check total is 3 higher.
