Hah I like BLT

Updating Team Names: note some are more of a joke.
(VITA) Variable Inclusive Tactical Association
(ACT) All Class Troop
(3D, DDD, D3)Deep Dungeon Delvers
(TROLL or TROL) Top Rounded Organised League
(BoT) Brigade of Twilight
(THE) Twilight Horizon Expedition
(BLT) Better Loot Troop
(BLT) Better Luck Troop
(ToMB) Twilight of My Brigade
(TOMB) The Oven Makers Brigade
(BOB) Best of Brigade
(BOB) Best of the Best
(BBQ) Brigade of Best Quality
(BBQ) Brigade of Best Questers
(BBQ) Billy Bob's Questors
(DoTA) Delvers of The Association

Given we might have to live with a party name for a few years, we probably want a decent one, not something dreamt up for funny acronyms. Sturm (assuming he gets in) would want something referencing Pharasma, even tangentially. How about:

- The Final Kiss
- The Final Judgement
- The Spiral
- The Authors of Prophesy

That said, it might be something fun to roleplay once the characters are chosen.

The top part of the team names were more serious and made in such a way that so that no one class/race/alignment/religion would be at the front.

I'm surprised you would not like the ones with twilight in them as they could be indirectly referencing Pharasma.

Twilight's good.

From an architectural perspective... Seekers of the Golden Ratio.

From a guild/brotherhood perspective... Keepers of Lost Lore.

Less serious... Finders-Keepers

Loot-em & Leave'em

Movie ripoff... Average Joes

Most groups don't choose their name (unless they're a rock band) - it's given them by others (e.g. Desert Rats, Untouchables, Cavaliers & Roundheads, Redcoats, Yankees, Limeys). Some famous names even started off as insults

So... Maybe a slightly derogatory name? Given by others who don't think we're good enough, that we then grow into and adopt?

Just a thought.

Sadly, for this scenario, there needs to be a group name registered with the Pharasmins even before the opening scene. Which unfortunately doesn't allow much opportunity to earn one from mockers or rivals. Though there is roughly a feeling of 'few months prior' going around, so that gives you some of the acquaintance time to have earned a negative moniker for the group.

Shalafi, you didn't answer my previous question of a little backstory.

In terms of a name, I do really like Pharasmin references, if only because we're exploring abandoned tombs and mausoleums.

I, however, don't have any staggeringly good ideas regarding the name of the group.

Lara Croft LLC.

Tombsdayers

The Osiris Connection

Pharasmakers

Pharasmineers

The Pharasmen

The Lumineers - I actually like this one. It's simple.

Resting Reposers

Gentle Repos (not sure what the plural of Repo is)

Gentle Repossesses

(the first two like the spell Gentle Repose)

Sacred Scavengers

Bring Out Your Dead's Belongings

I think something too Pharasmin may be a problem if the only real holy person you have is Gus (of Ragathiel), but it is a Pharasmin authorized expedition.

What about a little play on words, like

The Pharaoh's Men (sounds like Pharasmin)

Gentle Repossessors perhaps

Repo-se Men?

Idk. I don't really want a joke name XD

(IC)Indiana Company
(IC)In-die Company

(IT)Indiana Troop
(IT)In-die Troop

(DB)Dungeon Bait

(ToS) Troop of Six

my old WoW guild: <We Die Constantly>

my real suggestions:

If one of the guaranteed players is likely to assume a leadership role, an alliterative name based on theirs is classic. IE: Brennan's Braves or Gus' Galliants.

If the party has a religious duty bent, naming it after a god's symbol is cool: The Crimson Wing (ragathiel), Servants of the Bone Lands (Pharasma).

humorous without being stupid: The Trained Professionals.

random: The Cryptbreaking Six

The hooded figure surreptitiously listens in on the discussion. Maybe Great Undead-Slayers? she giggles to herself under the many-layered clothes common in Osirion, which protect equally well from the heat and from the curious. "Not scavengers," she mutters to herself, "Gus is far too noble for scavenging... but it somehow sounds right? ... ah, it's only off by two letters!" It takes her a few minutes to work up the courage and suppress the giggles.

The hooded figure approaches the table and says "Will the great Sand & Sarcophagus Avengers require a guide? This one knows much of scorching desert and the sunless tombs," and bows.

Other ideas:
Sand Slogged Scavengers
Dune Trotters
Desert Inquest
"Sandstorm"
Soundly Sleeping Sarcophagus
Treasure Trove
"SEPULCHRE" Which is a place for burial (i.e. Pharasmans killing undead), but also a place to store religious relics (i.e. the group collects them)
Sands & Sarcophagi
Gus's Sand Sarcophagus ScAvengers

The Dawn Company
The Company of Dawn
Crimson Wati Company

.. ^^~

The Exchange

I knew a girl called Dawn...

<sigh>

Speck of Glory
Dust of Profit

We will find out on Wed?

(CR) Classic Raiders
(CRT) Classic Raid Team
(CRS) Cheap Raiding Six
(BATS) Basic Aquistion Tactial Squad

What about something like

Sepulchral Acquisition(s) (Inc, Squad, Dept, Team, etc....)

Mausoleums to Museums

The Exhumation Accordance

Z'ael's Zealots

Kragmaw's Krew

Morana's Madcaps

Brennan's Blades

The Undertakers - several meanings hidden in there.

Morana's Morticians

Absinthe-Minded LTD.

Monsters, Inc.
Monster Hunters, Inc.
Acquisitions, Inc.

The Bringers of Mortality

Maybe just Acquisitions Inc?

The Exchange

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I don't think Inc is really appropriate in a medieval setting - joint stock companies and public listings not being very common in the period.

And about 24hrs to go for the big Decision.

Trove Rovers

The Graveyard Shift

Night Watch (or Darkling/Dusk Watch and variations thereof)

Hands in the Sands?

The Grim Prospectors

Oooh, yeah! Grim Prospectors.

Thirded for Grim Prospectors.

I think that one is the winner.

No word yet?

Okay, so recruitment closed today, and I said I would decide by Fri or Sat I think, but I may just have the decision shortly. First I am going to setup the discussion thread before I announce, so I can link it.

Okay, in speaking with the reserved players, I think it's safe to say we came to a mutual agreement. Now, like I said, I really had to talk myself down from starting another game and just realized I was pushing my time split between the ones I already have just a little too thin. I was even thinking just do another AP, and see who would fit that as well, but I had to steel myself for having to let people down.

That said, I have decided that in the end, the characters Sturm Harrensonn and Surubi al'Azad Khahaba had won me over. There were plenty of outstanding entries, but in the end those two had really left their mark on me.

I thank you all for your applications, and truly enjoy the other games I currently share with you. I apologize that I could not handle running an extra game for the rest of you.

HERE is the discussion thread, will the players please check in there.

Grats you two!

That's very kind. I'm quite surprised too. Many thanks to all.

Congrats.

Ohmygosh they said yes! I get to join them. Him! Her expression and the giddy, slight giggle that escaped did little to hide her excitement, despite her attempt to feign calmness. "Thank you. This one will make sure not to disappoint."

Congratulations Sturm, and awesome entries everyone!
