Doh! My Goblin reading skills are clearly normal. :P I thought it was 2 traits and 1+Drawback.

The little greyish goblin doffs his ragged cap. "You dah boss, Boss. Ising up-estimerating my skills."

I was thinking in a straight rogue, but with the 3.5 "Skirmish" class feature from the "Scout" instead of the "Sneak Attack" if viable. That, with the Vital Strike and the shot on the run or spring attack chain feats, will be his main line of offense. How about it?

@Juan: You could always take the Scout Archetype. Just so you know, the developers ruled that Vital Strike and Spring Attack can't be combined.

Its a nice archetype indeed. Vital strike not combining with spring attack will save some feats.(the positive gob way of life)Will work on the build. English isn't my native language btw, hope does not matter too much.

Ok, I think I'm done.

-----------------------------------------------

While the chief speaks and various goblins pay attention, one is busy lifting small trinkets and scraps off the others. Basically, if it's not nailed, tied, or otherwise secured (or over a few pounds), he's trying to lift it.

Hay's boss me's see's sumtin' to eat over there, I be's seein' ya

I must regrettably remove my proverbial hat from the ring. This would have been my first pbp and I want to do it up right. I would post mostly from work (I work third shift) and am going on vacation next week and it would be hard to keep up, not a good way to start, so.

Maybe I can catch another game and I will certainly be reading this one. Good luck everyone and thanks for the consideration, Oh Benevolent Dictator

Lieees! He be seein' nothin! Sticky yells as he hides 1/4 of an apple and a shiney button behind his back.

Slight of Hand: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

@JuanAdriel: It's honestly one of the few good Rogue archetypes. Glad you liked it. :-) As for your language concerns, I can guarantee it won't be a problem.

@Bricker: I'm sorry to hear that. :-( I like your submission and have a soft spot for PbP newbies. That being said, I completely understand your situation.

I was going to say Laz is 'fixed'... but that just doesn't sound good. :)

@Stickymitts: Your point buy looks off. Lowest your STR could go is 5, which would make you a 16pt buy. Also, you should know 4 Orisons and 2 First-level spells.

@Laszlo: Looks fine now.

"As the chief asks again, the green mob steps back, letting an unaware skinny litle goblin that was picking its nose" Uh.. err.. Puseater at your service, oh his greener, just hungry of villagers ankles.

@Puseater: You know 1 too many languages and have no drawback. You also get to add 1 trait.

I don't know if you've closed recruitment or not, I hope not, because I just spent 4 hours on this guy before reading the bit where you said you were closing early...

"Goblins burn and goblins bite, but
Bongub leads them in the fight
He lays out deadies all around
Until they rise up from the ground!

No one can defeat the dead
While Bongub keeps his bigbig head
Cuz if the longshanks think they win
He brings them back up once again

You will cry and you will moan
When Bongub comes into your home
He will hide where you can’t hear
Then zombies pounce and bite your ear

You will scream and you will run
Bongub chase you down for fun
Bongub hide where you can’t spy
Then zombies snatch and gouge your eye!"

Bongub meanly chants his song as he goes about making another bracelet from human teeth and gnome ribs.

When the chief shouts to them, he listens as sharply as he always had...which wasn't very sharply at all..."KILL KILL KILL!" he shouts.

Progression:

I'm planning on going full summon-and-buff zombie style. Most of my spells will be for controlling and helping them, those that aren't will more than likely be debuff/battlefield control.

No multiclassing, no prestige. Thanks for your time.

Bogsey will be going straight rogue (thug/scout), not sure about prc. But focussing on the sap adept line for nonlethal sneak damage. Using thug and enforcer combination to do sickening/shaken/panic debuffs along the way. Later via range when needed with a sling and nonlethal bullets. Aiming at eyes, balls and other painful spots where he goes.

Because it is better to keep them alive so they can die slower *evil grin*. Or coup de grace where needed ;).

Backstory: He grew up in the tribe but went to the city to have some more fun. There he became part of the enforcers for the thieves guild and learned his trade: ballbustin'. However, he did his job a little too good which ruined a lot of relationships for the guild. They tried to kill him, but Bogsy was too sneaky and got away. Now he is back at the village waiting to do some more wreak havoc on some more Longshanks.

some fixes and adds. Still brainstorming a song myself x_@

Wow, lot's of evil-aligned goblins here. I figured I wouldn't be the only one to submit a good character. O.O
I'm not really worried about inter-party dynamics: quite the opposite, that's what I'm looking forward the most. Tochack came back to his village to show others the path of the Pretty Lady With Hair On Fire: it wouldn't be fun if everyone was already a goody-two-shoes. The path of redemption can blossom from everywhere, be it a LN alignment or a knack for non-lethal ball-busting. :P

But I'm kinda worried at the "Burning down Sandpoint" thing. I can't really see a reason for Tochack to burn down orphanages and slaughter innocent civilians. I didn't really think about it when I created Tochack, seeing as you said that even LG was fine, but now I'm worried I won't be able to play Tochack's alignment.
I hope things work out, I'm really looking forward to play here. :(

PS: I'm juggling around a couple of skill points and adding Weapon Finesse to my sheet, will get the Crunch updated.

Same as humans lame paladins torch goblin towns, goblin green paladins can torch human towns. (Nice archetipe the green paladins btw)
Goblin's good deeds: Be nice and respectful to all goblins, dont steal (to gobs) dont murder (gobs)dont chew anyone (goblin, of course) and pray a thanksgiving to your deity for the crunchy elven ears you have got for breackfast.
Oh, and don't forget to brush your theeth. You will need them for the chewing thing.

I think it's fixed now.

@Bongub - you have 1 trait too many and a 20pt buy. However, you also get to add either CLW or ILW to your spells known.

@Bogsy/Puseater: your builds look fine now.

@Brother Tochack: I'm planning to run the Sandpoint Raid as a chaotic mess, so there will be opportunities for non-Evil-aligned PCs to do their stuff. It's very possible for you to work alone in the beginning and do a little good. If you're creative, you should be able to figure out ways to rescue orphans, stop needless bloodshed, save some buildings, etc. I'm running the AP as if the Goblins raid is successful, but that doesn't necessarily have to mean that the villager is slaughtered to the last man/woman/child and all buildings are burned to the ground. As I said, get creative - there'll be opportunities to be non-Evil if you keep your eyes open. :-)

@Everyone: I'll most likely be closing recruitment in the next day or two but will give 24hr notice.

I'm going to be up front with this and say that I'm not entirely pleased with how Sticky is turning out. I know he'll be ok as RP flavor and he has some good skills, but his future isn't shaping up like I wanted.

I had another concept I wanted to run by YBD and the good Brother Tochak.
I could make a buffer bard named Krosk. Krosk would also have perform: dance, but his style would be of the seedy nightclub variety. Yes, Krosk would be a goblin stripper. A green skinned Chippendale. He loves the ladies, and the ladies love the way he moves it, moves it!
I wanted to involve the Brother because I'd rather work with him than step on his toes with another bard. I know the Dervish is mainly self-buffing, but still, I'm extra wary of these things in the recruitment stage.

Your thoughts?

Well, as of right now, nobody's submitted a party buffer, a non-blasty arcane caster, or a Cleric/dedicated healer-type. Also, aside from Laszlo, there's been no Ranged DPR submission. Altogether, quite an interesting list of characters, and it's looking like the chosen party makeup will be VERY unorthodox.

@Stickmitts: Kleptomaniac Goblins are hilarious, but a Goblin Stripper sounds equally awesome. Dawnflower Dervish Bards are entirely self-buffing, so I don't foresee any toe-stepping. I leave the decision in your hands. Stickymitts known 1 too few First Level spells, but everything else looks fine with him. I'm definitely giving you kudos for attempting such a nontraditional build.

The issue with the Kleptomaniac is that making it really shine requires more attributes and a couple levels in maneuver master monk (one of which has already been submitted).

Krosk could be a ranged option, but I would probably pick up the Imp. Grapple feat (because those ladies get feisty sometimes, ya know) and focus on buffs.

Gah, now I'm torn. I hate it when I'm torn.

The major drawback is that -2 to cha. On a 15 pt. buy that really hurts both builds. I'll look into how I'd build Krosk a bit and give you a decision in a bit.

EDIT: Compromise! I'll play Sticky, as he's already built, and keep Krosk in reserve. If (when) Sticky steals something that causes his demise, Krosk will make his grand appearance!

Before racial mods:
STR: 10 (0 pt)
DEX: 7 (-4 pt)
CON: 11 (1 pt)
INT: 13 (3 pt)
WIS: 12 (2 pt)
CHA: 17 (13 pt)

Total Points Bought: 0 - 4 + 1 + 3 + 2 + 13 = 15

After racial mods: DEX +4 = 11; STR -2: 8; CHA -2: 15. It's fifteen points unless I missed a house rule changing racial ability mods.

City Scavenger is an alternate racial trait, gave up Skilled for it, but if you're counting that as one of the character traits, I'll gladly drop tactician.

Thanks for your help!

Switched out Bless for Ant Haul. Fixed spell slots/day.

@YBD: Awesome!
"Tochack helping longshanks? Nuh-uh. Me, uhm, scared them away, yes! Me was telling them how they be getting burned by me soon, yes! Me was absolutely not telling them from which directions gobbos were coming, and where a safe escape route were, no no!" Rolls Bluff check
Let's hope the chief doesn't understand Common. :P

@Stickymitts: Kronk sounded awesome! I had some problems with the -2 to CHA, too. It helped that Dervish Dance makes me a little less MAD, but I still had to put 2 points in Intelligence to pick common and an extra skill point, so I had to tank Wisdom. I heard that enemies in RotRL are pretty trigger happy on things that target Will saves, so I'm a little worried.

@Bongub: Okay, I see what you did now. :-) It would help me out a lot if you adjusted your profile formatting. Use Stickymitts and Brother Tochack as examples if necessary. Also, don't forget that Oracles learn either the cure or inflict spells for free. :-)

@Stickymitts: I feel your pain about the point-buy. As you know, I generally run games with a 20pt buy, but since RotRL is about average joes becoming larger-than-life heroes, I wanted everyone to start out a bit weaker. Don't worry, I'm fond of giving PCs random bonuses as the campaign goes on. Free bonus traits on level-up, random SLAs, etc. It should be fun. :-) Spell-wise, don't forget that you start out knowing 2 Level One spells + either CLW or ILW. In other words, You begin with 4 Orisons and 3 Level One spells.

@Brother Tochack: That's the spirit! "Don't worry, guys. Me go find books, burn them. Me not need help. You go find more longshanks babies. Tochack catch up with you later."

K, cool! Thanks! I'll update my profile ~shortly.

"I be no blasty arcane caster! I can heal. Just be nice and Auntie will help you."

Being a witch Auntie can heal and she absolutely isn't blasty, far from it. She is fully focused on control through both spells and eventually through undead minions and summons.

As far as being evil goes she's not too bad. It's more that she doesn't care than that she's actively evil. As in, she won't hunt humanoids for food but if the opportunity arises she doesn't see why not.

Brother Tochack wrote:

Just bear in mind that it comes down to how they are played. There are several NE applicants that could be played with a capital N on neutral and a 'little e' on evil. Evil can be played as broadly as Good.

Brother Tochack wrote:

Assuming both our characters make it into the game, you'll have an ally in that regard. Laz has a sympathetic bone for runts and the weak - having been one himself. So, assuming the DM is willing to play along equipment-wise, I planned on taking both standard and blunt arrows. I'd use the blunts to do non-lethal damage to children and other soft targets, saving the killing arrows for heroes, dangerous adults, and big-toothed dogs!

Sticky is evil because thievery is evil. He might actually be Chaotic Neutral...

Krosk is Chaotic Sexy. ;)

Arcane Savant.

I found that this would compliment my character concept. So, I will be taking all the levels that this prestige class has to offer. Probably go back and forth between Wizard and Arcane Savant after 5th level.

@Auntie Targa: Oh yeah! I'd forgotten about you. I still need to see your Hex and Spells Known on your profile.

@Laszlo: blunt arrows still do lethal damage - it's bludgeoning instead of piercing. However, that means they can be used with the Bludgeoner Feat.

@Fartuk: That is a very fun PrC. :-)

"Bongub is Undead Leader! Auntie and Bongub raise powerful army!"

Your Benevolent Dictator wrote:

Yep, but you can take the -4 to Hit penalty to use a blunt to do non-lethal damage.

Very true.

"Yesh, yesh, knock them out first. Then we wake them ups and hurts them some more and slowly and more hurts! Though balls only turn to mush once. Maybe heals them too? Then we mush some more!"

Sticky perks up at the mention of knocking things out. And if they have shineys, I takes! he says with a high pitched cackle.

Laszlo could use rubber balls that halflingsies use and throws them with slingsies. They does non-lethal damages. Keeps longshanks alive for ballsmashing. Bogsy uses thems as wells

Updated.

Don't have a Hex yet as a result of Gravewalker archetype. I'll get the spells done asap.

Here's the updated submission list. Grith and Doesn't Play Well With Others still need to add drawbacks, but everyone else looks pretty good at this point. Makena's been in conversation with me via PM and is working on a Lotus Geisha Bard. That'll bring us to 16 submissions! Of these, my wife's character Teefee the Druid has a guaranteed spot as per the original recruitment post. That leaves 5-7 slots open. :-)

Brother Tochack – Dawnflower Dervish Bard
Grith – Fighter (TWF with torches)
Snotgrub – Maneuver Master
Bogsy Ballbuster – Thug Rogue (sap adept debuffer)
Laszlo ‘Lasz’ – Zen Archer
Doesn’t Play Well With Others – Evoker
Fartuk – Fire School Wizard
Auntie Targa – Gravewalker Witch
Croakers – Druid (Frog domain)
Garl Dogsbreath – Pack Lord Druid (Goblin Dog)
Teefee – Druid (Giant Wasp)
Bongub Licktoad – Bones Oracle
Gogmurch Dogroaster – Fire Bomber Alchemist (pyro)
Puseater of the Licktoad – Scout Rogue (switch hitter)
Stickymitts – future Rage Prophet (combat maneuvers)

Recruitment's open until I get home from work on Tuesday the 10th. That's when I'll be reviewing everyone and making final selections. That gives everyone approximately 36hrs to get finished up. As for me, I'm off to bed. :-)

Makena Sootscale - Kobold Lotus Geisha Bard (Enchanting/Charm specialist)

It am me! Makena the Gobbold! Makena am Kobold from long distant lands of river king's dom. Makena not sure what a dom is, and when she ask the Oka-san and Onee-sans they give Makena funny looks, like when she ask why they not find slave do work. Makena learn all about slaves from brambleclaws, had good slave name Moany til he run off, but that gettan head of self.

Makena grew up in king's dom, in cave with sootscale tribe, tribe was happy, live in nice caves with shinies in walls, tall-ones leave alone, and shaman teachin Makena how be caller, call down might beasts to fight enemies and protect tribe. Then bad-mean weird-purple-stink kobold come and kill shaman, make himself new shaman and make sootscales worship stupid demon-statue that turn kobolds yellow. Make sootscales fight ugly-small blue mites and they big-nasty stinging bugs.

Makena not want to, but Makena scared, think Tartuk gon kill her toos, so she have leave. She take things and go, hear bout other small creature call gobs that leave place too. She catch up with dem and they take her to new village they heard of. Makena and gobs meet brambleclaws. They live in tall-one village! Makena scared, but then she find Mikmek are liar; tall-ones not have terrible claws, and teefs and covered in furs, they all soft and pink, and only twice big as kobolds.

Makena start think that she find new home, gobs strange, but they take makena, and let her practice calling, teach her about slaves! She take slave call Moany, it hard work, he keep try run away and get caught in spiny where goblin live, den Makena have heal he again. Makena find lot other strange things, big ant try to eat Makena! Makena make friend with strange talk gob, and have to save Vonk from strange god-lady try drown him, steal her shiny rat thing. Then chief Graalsk make Makena and gobs go down in tall-one tunnel. It strange tunnel, full of bricks and other tall-one thing, and nasties, and boney tall-ones--Makena call them Boneshanks, she real good at name things--that try to kill gobs. Makena and gobs have run away... things don't go so good after that...

Makena's still not remember that verr good. More, strange tall-ones come an attack town, chase goblin out, kill more Makena friends. They ruin her hat too! She like dat hat... Makena decide to try and follow Ki-Ah and Feeva, they leave before bad longshank attack village, go back home to Licktoad in Vareesha. Makena not know where that are though, she walk a long long long way, and then walk some more. End up in strange place where ground hard an cold, and white stuff fall from sky. Makena force to go near tall-one places. She so cold, and hungry, but tall-ones still chase her away, and she can't find any gobs.

Then suddenly Makena feel warm. She wake up, but don remember go sleep. She in strange place, like what tall-ones live. She scared, but then tall-one lady come in. She Onee-san call Sora, say Oka-san lady find Makena on edge village, bring her to place call okiya. Onee-sans were strange tall-ones, make Makena think tall-ones more like kobold. Kobold have many diffrent scale color, and these tall-one have white, red and black face, and wear strange second-skin call kimono all time. Makena still not know much tall-ones, but not seen any more like them.

Onee-sans call thems Guy-sha, and their chief old guy-sha, have title Oka-san. They say they have to use special magic gluggadrink call medicine cause Makena real sick. They want shiny coins like Great Chief Graalsk, but Makena spend all her shinies long time go. They say Makena have pay them back. So they make Makena clean house, use 'broom' and 'mop' and all sort other strange tall-one things. Makena not like that, she get told off lots for sneaking off and listen to Onee-sans instead. She watch them play strange box, with long stick poke out end, held with long hard twines; watch them talk in strange language; watch them make squiggle with big brush on thin white stuff, put leaves in hot waters and string nice-smell water that come out-Makena think that like what Vonk did, surprise guy-sha knows alchemy. Makena try to copy them, but make big-huge mess with black stuff and bursh, and odd twine just go TWANG!when Makena stroke it like Onee-sans. Oka-san say she make damage, owe more. Makena not understand, but afterward Onee-san Sora explain. She say these special things only guy-sha can do, but that Makena can be Me-nar-eye. She can come with Onee-san Sora and learn by watch Sora do Guy-sha things.

Makena still have to do many things for Oka-san, but it not so bad. Sora get special second skin make for Makena, it SO SOFT! Makena start realize why tall-ones always have second skin, feel nice. She learn Onee-san and other guy-sha not different kind of tall-one after all, they put strange taste white paste on face so look that way! Makena think they crazy, but Onee-san Sora it verr important tradishun. Been doin for centuries, which she say really long time. Sora teach Makena so many things, she learn to play strange box, which called Shamisen without break 'strings', Makena still not learn how to use paint stick for caligerfy, but she learn strange language onee-sans talk, call Min-ky-en, and more things.

It make Makena head feel so full, but she like it. She take songs and musik that guy-sha teach her, and make magic work with. Makena learn it so good, her head so full she forget how to make call of old friends! This make her sad, special not get to call Growly any more; Growly was Makena closest friend, and he die many times for her when she travel, and carry her when she tired and can't walk any more. He always come when she ask him, she always miss him...

She learn how make new friends tho. Learn so make people like Makena, so not chase her away, or try hurt her, even give her food! Or she just make them sleep.

Eventually after many moons, Chief Oka-san say Makena have paid her debt, that she can go. Onee-san Sora try talk Oka-san, say Makena has good music, strong magic, that she good learner, but Oka-san say she too odd, not understand, that Makena can't become guy-sha. Makena confused, she happy, and angry at Oka-san, but sad too! Sora say she can keep Kimono-second skin, and give her strange wooden feet-things, so kimono not get dirty on ground. Makena know spell to make clean anyway, but she happy for Sora's gift. Tears come from her eyes when she leave, with special papers given by Sora, tell her how to get to place in Vareesha call Sanpoint where they know bout goblins.

Ahh, I am really looking forward to this. Makena is really fun to play :D Stats are in the alias. Let me know if anything needs correcting, or if you want something else! This background ended up being way long than I had planned, but it was fun to read back over the thornkeep shenanigans.

Not really sure what you have planned, but it'd be funny if she happened to show up at Sandpoint at the same time as the goblins and recognize Feeva or Ki-Ah in the middle of the attack. If you have stuff planned preceding the attack though then that's fine too, she'd find her way to the licktoads somehow I'm sure :)

I had a couple of dead games pick back up, so I think I'll have to withdraw. Good luck everyone.

@Makena: everything looks fine.

@Grith: I understand. Sorry to lose you. :-(

Snotgrub is also not necessarily inherently evil. He has had some exposure to the outside world and lived among humans for a time, so you may have a pseudo comrade in arms. Snotgrub has his own backstory for wanting to go to Sandpoint.

Sticky is a follower. He's going because Chief told him to go. Once he gets there and notices how not-tied-down all the shiney stuff is, however...

Awesome! I look forward to seeing your decision (and hopefully playing)

As far as her evil alignment, Makena isn't terribly evil, she just grew up worshipping devils, and then goblins taught her about taking slaves. She's just kind of apathetic about moral quandaries and pretty naive. If she ever found herself in a good environment she'd probably shift that way over time.

There should be some interesting discussions :)

All right, I'll be closing recruitment in approximately 18hrs, so get any last-minute stuff done while there's still time. :-) If I've mentioned correcting your character in a prior post, now's the time to do so. No matter how awesome your submission, if it's missing a drawback/Goblin Song/etc., you're out of luck. Here's the list:

Melee
Brother Tochack – Dawnflower Dervish Bard
Snotgrub – Maneuver Master
Bogsy Ballbuster – Thug Rogue (sap adept debuffer)
Stickymitts – future Rage Prophet (combat maneuvers)

Ranged
Laszlo ‘Lasz’ – Zen Archer

Arcane
Doesn’t Play Well With Others – Evoker Missing drawback
Fartuk – Fire School Wizard
Auntie Targa – Gravewalker Witch

Divine
Croakers – Druid (Frog domain)
Garl Dogsbreath – Pack Lord Druid (Goblin Dog)
*Teefee – Druid (Giant Wasp) Already accepted due to being my wife
Bongub Licktoad – Bones Oracle

Other
Gogmurch Dogroaster – Fire Bomber Alchemist (pyro)
Puseater of the Licktoad – Scout Rogue (switch hitter)
Makena Sootscale - Lotus Geisha Bard

FWIW - I read up on the situation of trying to acquire the Dragon Ferocity feat when you are missing Stunning Fist due to 'replacement'. It would make for a serious number of hoops to jump through at higher levels when I really need to grab some of the nice archer feats... so I've canned the idea. Because of that, I've re-tweaked Laz's stat points fractionally. All the changes are on his character sheet. I've also reprinted the song, etc. there so you don't need to look up my first post.

Just wanted to say good luck to everyone. Lots of talented players. Each time I apply, I see so many interesting characters. It is really fun. :)
