Laszlo was the runt of the litter... but he managed to survive thanks to having reflexes like a capuchin on coke (DEX:19), a gift for blending into the background (Trait:Color Thief), and a deep-seated (justified) concern that everyone was vying to eat him. (drawback:Paranoid) Being a runt - even a surviving one - meant Laszlo received more than his fair share of beatings, abuse, and fights. The experience had two major effects on the scrappy, greyish goblin. It made him tougher than a dragon's toenail (STR:14, Trait:Heavy Hitter, Feat:IUS) and it turned him into more of an introverted loner than he already was. (CHA:6) Laszo found good reasons to maintain a distance from everyone - physically and mentally. Mastering the bow to stay out of the weapon and tooth range of other goblins as well as the longlegs was an obvious choice. Better to pincushion a problem from a nice, safe, distance. Intellectually, Laszlo grew to dislike the pointless cruelty of most goblins... no doubt due to his lifelong experience with it from the sharp and unpleasant end. When he questioned that goblin value, he started to reconsider all of the other goblin beliefs as well. So he finds himself something of a fish-out-of-water even now that he has grown big and strong enough that he no longer rests dangerously at the bottom of the food chain.
Laszlo is quiet by goblin standards, less cruel, and more even tempered. He has the beginnings of a moral center, which I'll be happy to explore in game. He can be murderous but isn't sadistic or random in his violence. I think his LN alignment can go one of two ways. It can make him follow the standard 'Goblin Order' of things, i.e. he is just following the cultural norms and rules though he doesn't necessarily enjoy them (which lets him work with evil gobbos). Or it can represent a more substantial shift away from evil if the party make-up goes towards something closer to good-aligned. Notably, Laszlo has a sympathetic soft spot for runts of any species and will avoid harming them. So while killing a dangerous dog wouldn't bother him, he would try to save puppies. RP & Song:
Laszlo wanted in on the raid against Sandpoint. The only problem, of course, was that Chief Gutwad didn't think Laszlo was anything more than that stinkin' runt with a bow. Laz had been patient, thinking that by showing his skills day-by-day the Chief would let him join in on the raids. Instead, he'd been stuck on hunting parties, using his bow to bag game for the pot. And now, he was being overlooked again. Once a runt, always a runt. Laz thought real hard on the problem and came up with a solution worthy of a goblin, something to get the old Chief's attention...
The small grey goblin catches up to the burly Chief. He pulls at a loose shark-like tooth in his mouth with a couple stubby fingers while he talks around it. "Chief, I'sing wants to go on Sandy-Point raid. You say yes, yes?" The Chief's only response is a barking laugh. Unsurprised by the answer Laz pulls the bloody and broken tooth from his mouth, eyeballs it briefly, and then pops it back into his mouth and swallows it. His other stubby hand pulls one of his few treasures from his ratty pocket. He hands it to the Chief. It is a tattered and sticky playing card - a jack - with a hole where the human's face used to be. He points at the hole. "Ising put an arrow there from seventy paces... one try." Gutwad is unimpressed, "So? That not hard." Laz gives the Chief a sharktooth grin. "Is true - so made it hard. Nailed card to goblin dog... fast dog... your dog. He run through woods real quick, then I's shoot. Sorry about sticky stuff. I's need new card; you's need new dog. Old dog got hole in heart. Now, you say yes I's go on Sandy-Point raid, Chief, or do I's need to shoot somethin' else?" He pulls another dog-eared card from his pocket. ========================================== Even in the pitchy dark,
