Changes in everything have occurred and magic has arrived after a apocalyptic cataclysm of nuclear and chemical warfare was released upon the world. You are among the first to "resurface" to the outs and begin to reclaim and rediscover the world not as it was but as it has become.

Goblin Gunslinger "Ziggs"

What i AM thinking is a human rogue. I am also thinking of having him wield firearms.
I figure that this will best fit for his at best middling stats and miltigate the worst of them. (Specifically range makes 9 con a little easier, firearms have great damage despite dex, lots of out of combat ability)
Now, you said that we would be using modern weaponry but firearms would be rare to fix/acuire/get ammo. Can i start off with a double barreled shotgun at 700gp (the price listed in guns everywhere) even if later on they cost significantly more to aquire?
Next is proficency. Is the proficency needed for guns exotic (the normal) or simple (guns everywhere)?

ASSUMING i can have/use the shotgun, ill start building up my character :)

So i am getting him built up, recycling an old alias so the name sticks :)
Quick rolls for hps.
hps: 2d8 + 16 - 4 ⇒ (1, 4) + 16 - 4 = 17 +1 because you get at least 1 hp every level :S
flimsyer than a paper bag! Ive had lvl 1s with more hps...

This is Gobo Horde btw.

firearms as marked price wise. You will exotic feat for them and you will need crafting of gunsmithing or whatever it is to make repairs, bullets etc...

I also want a alchemist portable lab and a spell component pouch bought for it...I will call them a smithing lab, and a cleaning basic repair kit.

The kit will only need to be refilled when at settlements after adventuring we'll figure price at that point (shouldn't be much overall)

This sound Fair?
BTW dont forget your +5 SKP in any 2 crafts or professions to start with ...or 1 craft and 1 profession

You mean +4 right? We each get the max rank to start with in each?

Thanks for the catch Yes max ranks at start for the craft/profession skills

Very well built and fits into the concept of the world through the use of the background. If you would like you may tie in an item of "value" into your background (my approval or adjustments maybe needed) that you received as a gift or etc.

Maybe give a couple of names in the background which i can use to link you tighter to the world. Maybe name of trainer in healing or arms or maybe a sibling or rival or something?

Have some ideas for some background characters, but on iPad again so won't be able to type it out right now. Will do so tomorrow :-)

About the item, got an example of what you mean with it?

Wrote some people in the background, but like I said I'm not certain what you mean with the item of value. Got any examples of what you mean?

Examples i have seen...

Bonus ability on sword that was a family inheritance...player didnt always know what the whole thing did just that it was an heirloom

Handy haversack gift from a caravan master when players family assisted in bringing caravan through a desert area by supplying them with their own sustenance...Player's fam and character weren't attatched to the caravan when this occurred it was written into the story...This also allowed me a hook for later games as the caravan master requested help with a transport or something

THose are just two that I can think of right off.

Ask Bartlebi and the other oracle for examoles...they both play or have played in my RL games

I'll need to look them over first and will get back to you.

They are now statted out appropriately in my profile. Though I will say that even if I don't get them from the beginning they are something that as long as the creature has a skeleton I can make one of those for the appropriate cost in Onyx.

might suggest taking a craft appropriate or related to it like mining or gem cutting / selling etc. Might make it easier to get the ?find the Onyx. Just a thought

Definitely can work with these characters thanks for the help. If you are ok with it choose either a weapon or armor that was given to you as a parting / graduation gift and i will take care of the rest/specials on it.

I did take craft gemcutting, but now that I think about it I think I will take knowledge geology and profession miner so I can dig up useful things.

So did you decide on whether I could start with some undead? As it is right now I could only take 2 since they are 150 gold worth of onyx each.

how would you explain them in civilization? possibly use disguise to make them look alive??? Looking for ideas on how it would work before I can decide for sure

This particular undead is just made using a skull. So If I used something like a rat's skull I could just fit them into small pouches.

for the GM:

This is what I added in my background :
A grand competition, the Champion Trial, is held at the end of each training cycle in which the participants compete against each other over the course of 3 weeks in various skill challenges. In the end, the winner gets a weapon of his choice, crafted by headmaster Saltuk Ironfist himself, a gifted warrior, crafter and magic user. Malgrim competed in the Trial and won. This is how he got his trusted whip Foelasher.
So the weapon i chose is a whip. Do with it as you please :)

Going to update my character page, so that I have a full background (the one currently there) and a reduced background (known to the rest of the group)

Male Fetchling Oracle 4: Character Sheet

Sorry it took so long but my background is finally up :

Background (Full):
Yellen’s ancestors fled to a large building for safety. While it was secure against the chemical weapons, it was not secure against radiation. Luckily for them, the creation of magic sucked the building into the Shadow Plane. After much time learning how to navigate and survive the Shadow Plane, they discovered that they could use the plane to travel from one place to another on the Material Plane with relative safety. There were still risks—it was hard to be sure that you were entering the Material Plane in a safe place, or to enter where you wished even if you knew of a safe place to enter—but the ability became invaluable to the civilizations they could reach, who were spread around the world.

Yellen’s father, Lenntsu was a prestigious courier and envoy. Yellen travelled with him often, though he was never allowed to go through to the Material Plane until his father knew it was safe. During this time—even as they travelled—Yellen was forced to do much studying. He learned many things, much of them about the nature of the Planes—as it was determined that the more knowledge one possessed about the Planes, the safer travel would be between them—however his studies were broad.

When Yellen was 16, his father travelled to a new place in the Material Plane that had been reported as a settlement. The information was incorrect. Lenntsu managed to return to the Shadow Plane, but he was extremely sick from exposure. He died a few days later, though not before giving his portable desk to his son. Charging him to continue his work, and ensure peace and cooperation between the settlements.

Yellen, torn with grief, tried to live up to his father’s wishes. He never felt like he could achieve all that he had been expected to do. Finally, he sought extra power. He had heard of rituals that could give a person magic. He attempted the ritual, but did not realize that he must sacrifice something. When the time came, the magic sought to sacrifice his best friend who had come to help him—Joelek—but Yellen was able to use his willpower to force it upon himself. The magic took his hearing from him, and presented him with a lesser form of the powers he sought, but Joelek was safe.

Yellen learned ways to cope with his deafness, though it is still a burden. He has also learned to somewhat master the magic within him, increasing its power. Eventually Yellen heard rumors that the surface had become habitable again. While travelling, he sought out a group to travel with, wishing to explore the place that had once killed his father.

GM:
I would like it if the desk in question could be the Field Scrivener's Desk. Though in all honesty, I realize this item is probably too much for what you were thinking. The only thing I truly care about is the collapsible part. The refilling would be nice but not necessary, and I could take or leave the tiny hut. Let me know what, if any of it, is acceptable. If it's not acceptable, I will have to think a little bit to find something else--though if you can think of anything related I'm open to suggestions.

I have to get to class now. I'll post the party portion of my background later.

Male Fetchling Oracle 4: Character Sheet

Yellen’s father, Lenntsu, was a prestigious courier and envoy, traveling to many settlements through the relative safety of the Shadow Plane. Yellen travelled with him often. Later, he began traveling on his own. He has access to magic, especially controlling the shadows. In some unknown connection to this magic, Yellen has trouble hearing, though it is not clear to what extent. He joined this exploration party because he was extremely interested in exploring the surface of the Material Plane.

3 ones in a roll are an auto 18

so your stats should be in order
13
17
7
16
7
18

should make an interesting character. Remember you may switch any 1 stat with any 1 other stat.

Dont understand what all the other jazz you had added or attactched to this is.

This is Ry Ry's account, Matt did the ability roll

Because by your rules 1's get re-rolled.

Based of the stats I got I'm playing ranger!!!

If rerolling ones is actually a thing, i'm going to check what my stats would be now :
original post
Str: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 5, 5) = 17= 16 1d6 ⇒ 2 still lowest so no change
Dex: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 1, 4) = 12= 11 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8 taking the 6, dropping the 2 = 16
Con: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 1, 1) = 4= 18
Int: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 6, 3) = 17= 14
Wis: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 5, 5) = 19= 15
Cha: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 1, 4) = 11= 10 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6 1d6 ⇒ 3 taking the 5, dropping the 3 = 14

This would make my new stats after racials & stat up at lvl 4:
Str : 16
Dex : 18
Con : 20
Int : 14
Wis : 16
Cha : 14

I had originally exchanged Dex with Wis and added 1 to Dex at lvl 4, to get 16 dex before racial. Now I can just leave the stats as is and just add 1 to Wis at lvl 4 for same result on my dex as before.

Just say whether or not the change is allowed, I'm fine with either. Just thought I would join in on the "rerolling 1s"

QUESTION! Would knowledge geology be redundant with profession miner for being able to identify minerals and knowing where/how to find them?

NO REROLLING THE ONES.

If you have then please stop it.

Not really

Those that have been invited please post in gameplay thread.
We do have 2 more joining us RL name Tim and Lori. Just gotta finish characters with them. Tim is wanting a heavy hitting simple fighter. Not sure what Lori will do yet.

I do believe this rounds out our party #'s

Thus post in gameplay so I can make sure and others can see as well

As to what craft skills and knowledge skills are going to be or are not going to be useful...You will have to make YOUR best guess. It is a world that has changed drastically very drastically from what any of the races remember

looked at it basic desk yes fine other "refills" and such no. Use your judgement and send me the final write up

Sorry there was some discrepancy in the re-rolling of ones or not. I did tell Yaben he could so all of you can. the 3 - 1's = 18 still stand though.

Reroll the 1's and replace them with the new roll then modify accordingly

Well part of the idea for the character was that I did some work as a shipwright building galleons and such, and I needed to know if there were any large bodies of water around. Otherwise I am just going to have to wave my hand REALLY hard and claim that there is an ocean or something nearby

Remember that you are level 4 meaning you have had a life and possibly grown up away from here before here. You have only recently formed your group. So again it is up to you.

Bartlebi, what is your oracle curse? I know Yellen has the deaf curse. Is yours one that is visibly apparant or not?
Do you have sign language as one of your languages, otherwise you can notice the sign language conversation is going on, but not understand what is being said :)

Still need to decide on a group name. Any idea?

Male Gnome Oracle 4

I forgot to list my languages, but yes it is on my list that I know. I am aware of how that works.

I forgot to put that on my character profile, as well as some other small details.

Malgrim...thanks for the help with all this small stuff that helps with consistency.

Male Drow Rogue (Poisoner)/Alchemist 2

@Malgrim: When do we have to decide? It'd be cool if it happened organically.

PS: sorry Inyl's going all lone wolfy, but his perception sucks, so if you want him to join the lumberjack mission you'll have to be very forward and convincing.

Male Gnome Oracle 4

Part of the premise is that we already have loosely formed an exploration group, *which I forgot about*, so by that we have skipped the funnel stage.

yep you all are loosely formed into a exploration/etc. company.FOr ease..I will say you hae been together for about 4 months...long enough to finish one "delivery" to a nearby settlement
