GM Infinity |

Molok, the passage goes on for what seems like forever until your foot stumbles on a set of stairs leading up. You can see a faint glow of the firelight behind a large stone of somesort and some shadows dancing at the top...still 60 ft away. Sounds like the gutteral tribal language of
Uthgardt...
If you guys want to try for a surprise round, do a group stealth check

Illuvin |

Thinking This guy... keeps trying to steal the show.
I'm super stealthy but I can't see in the dark but I can cast message so we can stay in touch.
"Melgrom, I'll use my communication charm every thirty seconds. Say the word and we'll bring the cavalry." All hint of joking gone from his voice. As the others creep up Illuvin keeps his distance to stay between the two groups.
stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

Thumps Windrover |

Bold + Italics=Ghostwise telepathy.
Thumps notes that the dwarf is going without a light so he hangs back keeping a watch that his light doesn't give him away. I really need a way to do that.
I am going to hang back trying to keep Melgrom at the edge of sight. If the others are trying to keep quiet I will use Blessing of the Trickster on Harshnag of Elain depending on how seems louder.
stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Melgrom you hear a plucky halfling voice in your mind, unsettling but you have traveled with Thumps for awhile so its probably not the first time. "Hey its me. Thumps. Ima hang back but still sneaking with you. I don't want me light to jinx you. I am going to try and keep you in sight. Stay safe. Holler if you need help."

Melgrom Greystone |

Melgrom close's his eyes slowly in prayer that Thumps doesn't start he jokes or songs again as he makes his way forward at a stead pace.
No advantage rolls on stealth for those without light? just making sure.

A snowy owl lands on the druid's shoulder. "Sohar, Ghost," he says simply as he takes the proffered hand, familiar with the ritual. At Molok's non-subtle request, he says, "My cue." He follows the stone man.
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

Molok Granite Fist |

Stealth Disadvantage
Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Wow, a 12 is not all that bad for Molok...but this is why he usually stays behind and lets the sneaky people go first!

Thumps Windrover |

GM did I think Elain or Harshnag would need more help with stealth or not? He might have decent skills and no heavy armor. I had said earlier I was going to pick him or Elain. If I picked Elain the Blessing of the Trickster Advantage would Cancel the disadvantage.

Urth Stormraven |

Urth broadly smiles at the new crew, "By Volkur's Beard, more crew! I'm Urth. Urth Stormraven. Rukking glad to met ya." He greets each of you with a hearty handshake.
Urth is a tall Illuskan human with an obviously strong upper body. He has raven black hair and tanned skin indicating a life spent in the sun. He wears plate armor and shoulders a case of crossbow bolts and a backpack with a coil of hempen rope strapped to it. His weapon’s harness carries a longsword, warhammer, light crossbow, and shield with an emblem of a cloud above three lightning bolts.

Stealth disad: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Stealth disad: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

GM Infinity |

You guys didnt have disadvantage, I was doing a group stealth check meaning I needed rolls from at least half of the party to tell if it was success or not. Molok was the 5th PC to succeed, so that means the entire group succeeded. :D
The party sneaks up upon 7 Uthgardt barbarians and a small dragon wyrmling all seemingly trying to open the massive doors to the temple: a 30 ft tall solid granite sheet carved with the images of giant gods in battle with dragons. A 40 ft flight of steps is leading up to them and the party is around 30 ft away...
If you want to kill these strangers now would be the time.
Those familiar with the North might recognize them as the Great Worm tribe:

Elain Botwright |

Elain holds up her hand, counts down from 5 to indicate when to run, and than charges in swinging at the wyrmling

Oh dear lord those were horrible, imma go hang my head in shame now

Illuvin |

"Hello there gentleman! Ignore my enthusiastic friends over there and just focus on the sound of my voice... Melgrom! Strike now! "
Casting Hypnotic Pattern to target all of the enemies. DC 16 Wis save or be charmed (move speed 0 and incapacitated). Bonus action to give Melgrom an inspiration die. In the next 10 mins you can add a d8 to an attack roll, skill check, or save. You can chose to add it after you roll the d20

Molok Granite Fist |

Shaking his head at the antics of his new companions, Molok moves forward and slams his maul into the first barbarian he comes across (green)
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

Molok crashes his maul into one of the well fed humanoids, nearly buckling him over. Then, suddenly, a pattern of strange symbols weaves throughout the air, enchanting the barbarians with its flashing lights...

Melgrom Greystone |

Hearing Illuvins signal, Melgrom drops to a knee bring his heavy cross bow up in a fluid movement, taking aim at the Uthgardt with the fancy headdress, while muttering a small incantation under his breath before firing.
aka firing at the shaman.
Bonus action to Hunters mark the shaman.
Heavy Crossbow: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Piercing: 1d10 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 4 + (2) = 14 in case the shaman is already below its max hit points. Colossal slayer.: 1d8 ⇒ 5
with practised ease born of experience, Melgrom rapidly reload and fires of another shot.
Heavy Crossbow: 1d20 + 9 + 1d8 ⇒ (3) + 9 + (1) = 13 using the inspiration here.
Piercing: 1d10 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 4 + (2) = 12 Add this if the first hit. Collossal slayer: 1d8 ⇒ 1

Jax moves up to the paladin Now, lets see some hits and might, but they won't see it Greater invisibility: Lasts 1 minute, you are invisible, even if you attack. Attack rolls against the creature have disadvantage, and the creature’s Attack rolls have advantage. On Elain

Elain Botwright |

She gives a very Belkar like chuckle and says The Drake will never see it coming
Would I roll the advantage 4 those 2 attacks, since Jax went b4
If so
Advantage attack 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Advantage attack 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Welp that was a wash, I swear I'm a 7th lvl pally guys

Thumps Windrover |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Surprise Round
Thumps Saunders out of hiding trying to balance his rapier by the tip on his finger. He continues his saunter he makes the contact with one of the barbarians but holds up a finger like his act is more pressing. "Hold on a sec little wormling have to get the giant anvil in place. " He tossed the rapier up catching it by the handle. At the same time an emense anvil of force embossed with the grinning face of Tymora appears over the barbarian's head dropping at great speed.
Action: Invoke duplicity. That's my illusionary double with the rapier. Bonus action: Cast spiritual weapon, that's Tymora's anvil. It was either that or the Month Python Foot.
Spiritual Weapon: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Force Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Sohar rushes in and raises his shield between Elain and the wyrmling, fixing the triton with a disapproving glare while remaining wary of the creature.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Move: 15'
Action: Dodge

Melgrom Greystone |

Any chance I can shout something at them before the surprise round ends, if so I will post it below if not just ignore it.
"Lay down your weapons, we have you surrounded and outnumbered, do so and we shall show you mercy, or don't I am fine with ether option."
Note to fellow players this is only if Infinite allows it

Urth Stormraven |

Urth always rolls disadvantage with Stealth wearing plate armor
Urth furls his brow when the sneaks become attackers. How do they know these guys are worse than the evil giants and deserve to die? he thought. He hadn't been a pirate in a long time. It didn't feel right then, and it didn't feel right now.
He thought Jax was an Uthgardt too, so he could talk to them first.
Urth moves up with his sword and shield ready and shouts, "illusio vim!" The dragon sees blue chains snake out of his sword and entangle the wyrmling. And slowly, they begin to compress.
DC 15 Int Phantasmal Force

GM Infinity |

Thumps, that anvil spiritual weapon is awesome and hilarious... XD
Mel, yes you can always talk during combat...to have any effect though you need cha persuasion or str intimidation or the like.
Int vs Urth: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (9) - 3 = 6
Seemingly in response to Sohar's command, the wyrmling seems to go very, very still...
Not sure Pindleton is around, think he was having work craziness.
You guys can take your round 1 actions now that surprise is over while we wait. I'll bot him if it comes around to him again.
Round 1:
Elain, Molok, Illuvin, Pindleton, Melgrom, Urth, Jax, Thumps, Sohar <--UP
Enemies

Thumps Windrover |

I forgot to move Thumps. When I posted for the surprise round I was on my phone. He would have been a little closer so that the double could get into position.
Round 1
Thump's image moves about in front of the same barbarian jabbing toward the lug with the rapier and leaping out of the way trying to 'keep from getting hit.'
We will need an icon for Thumps illusionary double. The double is behind the guy Thumps just closed in on.
Thumps the real deal leaps from the shadows rapier leading and strikes out toward the poor barbarian fencing with the illusionary double and getting his with the spiritual weapon.
Rapier: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Rapier Advantage: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Damage with sneak attack: 1d8 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 4 + (6, 5) = 21
Assuming the Barbarian is still kicking. The Anvil falls again.
Spiritual Weapon: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13If the barbarian with the white board (who has taken all the damage I put out is down then I will aim for the next guy south fighting with Molok.
Does the barbarian down in the south by the fires appear to be some kind of caster.

Urth Stormraven |

The dragon barbarians were still shocked. Urth continued to feel bad about ambushing them for no reason other than location. While he could drop a fireball on them, he instead targets that leader looking one with a pair of bones in their hair.
The sailor shouts, "illusio vim!" The bone-in-hair barbarian sees blue chains snake out of Urth's sword and entangle them. And slowly, they begin to compress.
Portent 5 vs. DC 15 Int Phantasmal Force
"By Volkur's beard, just surrender before we get rukking angry!" Urth encourages the barbarians.
Intimidation: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

Elain Botwright |

It seems Elain is right about where she needs to be
Round one here goes nothing
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 161d8 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Advantage: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 261d8 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Advantage: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Frick ya, let's pour some smites on
Divine Smite lvl 2: 3d8 ⇒ (3, 1, 2) = 6
Divine Smite lvl 2: 3d8 ⇒ (8, 3, 4) = 15

Pindleton Montague IV |

Sorry, I'm back! We'll say on the surprise round Pindleton just prepped mage hand.
Pindleton fires an arrow off at the wyrmling. Unless it looks almost done. If so, then at the green in front of Molok. He'll also go airborne if necessary to get a clear shot.
Shortbow attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Damage with sneak attack: 1d6 + 4d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + (2, 6, 3, 2) + 4 = 23
Sorry for the double post if anyone saw that. Tried to edit and somehow posted a second time.

Melgrom Greystone |

Seeing the Barbarians need alittle more motivation to surrender, Melgrom lets loose another flurry of shots.
First target Shaman
Heavy Crossbow: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Damage: 1d10 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 4 + (5) = 12 Hunters mark
Second target Wyrmling
Heavy Crossbow: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Piercing Damage: 1d10 + 1d10 + 4 + 1d8 + 1d8 ⇒ (2) + (2) + 4 + (2) + (8) = 18 Colossal Slayer
if I killed the shaman Melgrom will use his bonus action to move the Hunters mark to the wyrmling and as such add these 2 tot the damage as well.
Hunters Mark: 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + (3) = 5
Taking a steadying breath, lines up his shot and release's it into the wyrmlings eyes.
He then points his heavy crossbow at the uthgardt again.
"Last warning warning lad's drop your weapon cause yahs won't be getting another one!"
Intimidation: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

GM Infinity |

Sohar, lots of hits on the wyrmling here. Were you trying to interject your body as a shield to absorb the damage? Pindleton first dealt 23, Melgrom 20, then Elain 45.
Melgrom's unrelenting crossbow work makes short work of the spiritual northerner, who falls before she can utter a sound.
warlord 90/90 hp 13 ac (charmed)
wyrmling ??/32 hp 16 ac
green 35/67 hp 13 ac

The parties attempts at intimidation seem to have little effect on the mindless berserkers, foaming at the mouth ready for vengeance...
