Eva Elsington |

I've been dealing with over a month of crazy work stuff. So I feel your pain Riley. And I can always change your hair again ^^

Cathran Ingwood |

Aw, shucks. This group gives me the warm fuzzies. :)

Eva Elsington |

It's okay, work's keeping me busy here too. My brain is starting to go numb from staring at data for this conversion.

Lineera Vonnarc |

We'll survive! I'd say prioritize sleep in the mean time. I shut down hard by the time I'm that spent.

Aurora Beldusk |

Work... Work... WORK!
No, please stop, you cruel fiend! Have we not suffered enough!?
Well... Apparently not! -.-'
Ehm... Sorry I couldn't post anything yesterday guys, believe me I'm trying to be more present but work is taking all my free time these days! :(
Anyway, gimme a moment to read all new posts and I'll write something of my own! :D

Cathran Ingwood |

I hope you manage to get some more sleep, mdt. I had a snow day today because my bus wasn't running (fun fact: Portland doesn't own any snowplows), but I haven't put it to much use without a reply post yet. Work and sleep come first, though! :)

mdt |

I got about 7 hours friday night, but had to cancel my meat game to do it. :(
Ok, everyone let me know what you are buying in town, or at least looking for, and then I'll move us on to the plot lane.

Lineera Vonnarc |

Since no one's voiced any complaints, Lineera will stick with her purchase list.
Cestus
Silvered Battle Aspergelium
Flask of Holy Water
Darkwood Heavy Shield
Quilted Cloth Armor
She'll also try to pull Aurora along to help her negotiate.
Once done with this, she'll in return try to help in the negotiations to buy a Wand of Cure Light Wounds.

Riley "Lucky" McCormick |

I'm interested in:
-Traveller's anytool (can be used as thieve's tools)
-MW Darkleaf Lamellar Leather
-MW Katana (back up weapon)If we could use the money more, I do not NEED any of this. Thoughts?
I'll add this to my gear as well.

Aurora Beldusk |

Aurora doesn't really need anything else beside what she already has (also, she wouldn't feel 'right' about spending the group's money, since she didn't have a chance to contribute in a significant way yet).
As long as the party buys a CLW wand, she's happy! ^_^

Eva Elsington |

I'd like to restock alchemical supplies, if needed, for my kit, and then possibly get some more formulas if we can afford to do so, but I feel CLW comes before my formulas.
I'm getting a brief break from staring at data all day at the moment. Not sure how long it'll last though.
EDIT: Which I never removed the cost for the potions or other alchemy things. It's been crazy busy here and I kept forgetting when I had time. How many and of what did people want of those? This includes any potions I can make because I have the formula.

Cathran Ingwood |

I don't think it would be a bad idea for Cathran to have an enlarge person potion on hand.
Some detect undeads wouldn't go amiss, either, but I don't know if you would want to have those as potions or extracts.

Cathran Ingwood |

We're also 273 down from Luthor's supplies. I'll adjust the party funds if no one else has done it yet.
Edit: Funds adjusted. We can probably shift around what coins we want our money in, if anyone cares.

Aurora Beldusk |

Alright, we're all stocked up and ready to go! ;)
EDIT - While I still have the chance I decided to buy a few extra arrows for Aurora, with her own gold (nothing fancy, just a few golds worth of normal arrows... Just in case, you know!).

Eva Elsington |

Ack, attack of the numbers. Brain no like >.< I'm to the point of I can see one number and say its a different one...

Cathran Ingwood |

Who's going to hang on to our wand?

mdt |

The cheapest way to trade coins is to buy a 5gp gem for 500 copper, and a 30 gp gem for 300 silver.
Converting gold to platinum is the same, buy gems, sell for platinum.
Or if you don't want to spend half a day buying and selling and negotiating, you can go to a moneychanger, who'll charge a flat 1% charge to transfer everything to any denomination you want.

Eva Elsington |

Made changes for Eva's things on the list.

Lineera Vonnarc |

As to the question of who should hang onto the wand, I'd actually nominate Cathran for the job. Eva and Aurora can both heal, which should make our back ranks of Eva, Aurora (if she's primarily a bow user as I'm suspecting) and Mahb fairly safe in this regard. Lineera has more or less built herself as a bit of a tank, and as such is likely going to be taking a good number of hits. Therefore she probably shouldn't have the wand in case she drops. Same goes for Riley, so in a way, the added safety of the Reach weapon probably makes Cathran the best person to ideally not get the snot beaten out of her and therefore a decent healer.

Cathran Ingwood |

Actually, wands are activated as spell-trigger items:
Spell trigger items can be used by anyone whose class can cast the corresponding spell. This is the case even for a character who can't actually cast spells, such as a 3rd-level paladin.
CLW is on the Ranger list. :)

Cathran Ingwood |

Uhh, so... We for sure actually dropped off those amulets for destruction, right?

Cathran Ingwood |

....Riiiiiiiiight. I was thinking about the SECOND boat trip we're going to have to take to get back to Illmarsh afterward. Cathran is the one with the high wisdom and Knowledge (Geography) ranks, not me! :P

Cathran Ingwood |

So I used some arrows to show my movement, but man are they chunky. I realized that it's because the map is actually pretty small, but I was very confused until I remembered how zoomed in I was.

Eva Elsington |

As mdt knows, and I've semi-mentioned here, I've been working long days, up to 12 hours long. Not only did I have to work Saturday, it was a long day as well. Today is not looking less long.

Lineera Vonnarc |

Jeez, hope you're at least getting paid good for all the overtime... Hope things slow down for you soon, Eva.

Eva Elsington |

Paid for the overtime? Psh. I wish.

Aurora Beldusk |

I must concur, 'paid' and 'overtime' seems such a strange combination of words... It's almost as if you were implying that a person could actually be PAID for doing OVERTIME! Ah! Preposterous! Inconceivable! ;)
In any case, to anyone having problems at work: don't give up guys! We are with you, at least in spirit! ^_^
To help matters, I propose we find some monsters and kill them, thus accumulating precious Karma Points that the Universe is bound to recognize as an acceptable currency we can spend to buy ourselves moments of respite from our troubles! (it works like this, right? :o)
Now, with our characters stuck on a boat, if only there was a way to find some monsters to vanquish... ;D

Eva Elsington |

I did find some time to do some calculations for cost and time requirements. How long were we in PP before we moved out? So I can make sure the costs vs the time it takes are feasible?
Was planning on making Alchemist Fires, Sunrods, possibly Acid Flasks.
There would be potions too. Though I'm debating some on those.

Mahb |

MDT, is there a way onto the top deck aside from the stairs? I see there is something like a mesh cargo net between our deck and the upper deck. Can that be opened or cut to drop that one crab-guy onto our deck? Alternatively, if it is a mesh, can we cast spells through it?

Aurora Beldusk |

Eva and Aurora... are you guys going to post actions? I think you are up.
Yep, sorry about that, posted actions now. :)

mdt |

It's a wooden mesh, very thick, but you can see through it. You can cast spells through it, but some spells might be bad ideas. Fireball would require the arrow slit rules. Ranged Touch Attacks would gain cover AC. Magic Missile would work, or any spell that just requires line of sight/line of effect and doesn't target AC.

Mahb |

Sorry, wrong skill for identifying these guys.
Could you let me know how are you running Knowledge skills? Mahb has a +10 to K:Arcana, K:Nature, and K:Planes which should allow her to identify constructs, dragons, magical beasts, animals, fey, monstrous humanoids, vermin, and outsiders. If you want to run K skills like it would nominally work in the 'real world', we'd look at a monster and either know it or not know it, drawing on our fully body of knowledge in one go (one roll in mechanical terms). People don't need to specifically access their 'categories of knowledge'. We see creature X and ID it, or not. The easiest way to do that would be for you, as the DM, to proactively pop in an OOC comment like You'll need a K:Religion roll to identify this monster. The less easy way would be to have the players throw out a general roll and then either look at their character sheets to see their K skills or have them post the different modifiers for their various skills beside their roll. Then you can adjudicate what they know or don't.
If that's what you are doing and we just struck out in all categories - OK. But your comment above makes me think we are possibly playing "find the right K skill". If so, that means we need to make multiple rolls possibly over multiple rounds in the midst of combat to hopefully learn something useful. In my opinion, that lowers the usefulness of K skills. It is your game and your rules, so play it as you wish but I'd like to know how you are running thing as it will effect how I spend skill points at later levels. Thanks!
Time to talk tactics, guys. I don't think we are going to win this fight by hanging below decks. We may need to rush up the stairs and deal with the AoOs. Hopefully, these guys don't have Combat Reflexes. My suggestion would be for Mahb to move to the stairs and try to daze or zap the crab at the top of the stairs. Once we know he is stunned, the rest of ya'll charge up the stairs with the toughest/highest AC guy going first and probably drawing the single AoO from the second crab at the top of the stairs. If we are lucky, that will be the one and only AoO and just about everyone will be on deck and ready to do some damage. Thoughts?

mdt |

What I usually do is, if someone says they want to know about something, I'll check their skills and see if they have the right skill, then I'll roll it for them or tell them to roll it. For these guys, you'll need Knoweldge (Local), as they are humanoids. Yes, really freaky ones, but humanoids (no racial hit dice).

Cathran Ingwood |

As far as tactics go: Cathran is just about down from some very good hits on the enemies' part. Luckily, I just remembered that I have a wand of cure light wounds! It's not terribly action efficient, but perhaps I can heal and then try to move into position for an AoO with my reach? Unfortunately, my feats are feeling kind of useless for this particular fight, since I feel like their AC is too high for power attack (I'm assuming lots of natural armor from those shells), and pushing assault only works on creatures up to my size.

Eva Elsington |

Would it be possible for me to retrieve the wand off of you to heal you with it? It's kinda hard for me to reach your mouth to feed you a potion or infusion... (I'm a little short XD)
