(2) A Haunting at Perdition's Point (Inactive)

Game Master mdt

The small hamlet of Perdition's Point has always been haunted by the shadowy spirits that dwell in the forest of Cadaverwood. Locals from towns bordering the woods share terrifying tales of this haunted town, but the citizens of Perdition's Point would have you believe it's not so bad. But with the recent disappearance of two of the local children, the town is on edge. Who will step up and debunk the chilling mystery? And who was responsible for such heinous crimes?

Phase 2 - THE CLOSER

As the table empties, Cathran nods and bids her new (and not so new) acquaintances a good night. She picks up her own gear, adjusting the straps of her bulging pack so it stays firmly on her, which feels necessary given that her motor skills seem about as functional as the stumbling dwarf's. "Have a pleasant night. This evening has been...refreshing."

She grabs her bardiche, using its long handle as an aid to walk her way toward the north counter to order a room for the night. She eyes one of the bar maids, a short elf (well, short for an elf, and to be fair Cathran stands above just about everybody) with red hair who looks less tired than the other women cleaning glasses or dragging out barrels of sawdust. Before Cathran can catch her eye, she leans her elbow on the bar into something that crinkles. She looks down to find a relatively dry copy of one of the scrolls the mercenaries were passing out earlier. She lets out a sigh and picks it up, staring at it with a hard feeling in her gut, before rolling it up and placing it in her pocket. Flagging down the bartender, she secures a room key from him, and heads upstairs after paying her tab with a gold coin. As Cathran falls asleep, she hopes that coming back here is the right decision.

Good luck, everyone. :)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Recruitment is officially over, thanks everyone who applied. We'll have a decision, I hope, this weekend. Unfortunately, some of our regulars are both overworked and ill from this flu thing going around. I hope to have selections by Sunday.

Ok, I would like to officially thank everyone who was in the recruitment.

It was a unanimous decision by both GM's and Players in the thread.

You guys did a great job and made it REALLY REALLY REALLY hard to pick people!

The actual selections were a bit more spread out and not so unanimous, but there were two who ended up on the top end of everyone's lists, so we went with the two who made it into the top 3 of everyone's lists.

In alphabetical order....

Cathran Ingwood
Riley McCormick

By the way, I've been told there's an honorable mention for Raliscar for being the most entertaining of the characters, with his bad balance. I honestly laughed out loud several times.

Seriously, in any other recruitment thread I've ever been in or run, all the character's that didn't get picked would have made it. Every single one. You guys were great.

We'll be keeping you on our short lists! Hopefully we don't need to recruit any more people, but you never know.

If any game I'm in is recruiting, and at least one is, and you want into that game, I'll give you a recommendation to the GM.

Again, I seriously would like to thank everyone for their participation, and now I'm going to go feel rotten for turning down such great players as didn't make it in.

It should also be noted that I, Eva, am DM for the other game of Perdition's Point. I'll keep all of you in mind should an opening ever occur in that game as well.

Sovereign Court

Congrats to those chosen. Oh well back to hunting once more.

I hope every one has fun!

I'm just kinda upset that the decision to NOT try to force a background for another new character into a tiny village was apparently the biggest strikes against my submission! How many "returning home" characters does it take (in a village of fewer than 40) to strain the suspension of disbelief?

Being passed over happens all the time, and I easily accept my share of "Uhm, no." I'm just flabbergasted that THAT seems to be the predominant identified reason.

Regardless, I hope you all enjoy the game.

HustonJ,
It wasn't that you were not from PP, currently or originally. Honestly. It came down to the bit I warned you about up front, the background making it hard to see him in the setting is all, and the giant torpedo it was if they every left PP.

The fact the two chosen happened to have backgrounds that were formerly PP was actually not part of their reasons for being chosen. And, remember, the background was a nitpick to figure out some way of coming up with two people.

I'm sorry I didn't explain that well in my PM, and I apologize for giving the impression or hurting your feelings.

I'm unaware if you read the discussion thread or not, but if you did, if may be kind of my fault you feel that way, and believe me it's a bit of a misunderstanding.

I believe mdt put it perfectly in the post above. The 'problem' was never that your character (or the others) were or were not from P.P., but how easy (or hard) it was to envision them getting on board with the group, the investigation, the rescue mission, and the plot in general.

For instance, a character with absolutely nothing to do with P.P., but with a good reason to be overprotective of children and a strong hate for undead would've been very easy to fit in the group.

I'm sorry your character wasn't selected, and I wish you luck in your next recruitment! ^_^

*bows*

All I can do is say thanks for the consideration. =) I hope you guys have a really fun game!

Go back and re-read your conversation in the Discussion thread. The group focused on how well the two selected folded themselves into the history of the group and the effort they put into already being connected to each other and all the existing PCs.

I'll have to ask you to forgive me if I'm reading too much into what seems to have been the majority of your discussion about the selection.

And I think you have SERIOUSLY over-stated the "wanted" status of a deserter from a local noble's personal army.

You just liked the other characters better. I'm good with that.

Like I said, have fun!
