Edit July 27th
Playtest Preorder Convention Pick Up Update: The mechanism for Playtest Preorder pick up for Gen Con does not pre-charge for Playtest products. You will need to pay for your preorder at the show.

At the show you will have copies reserved for you. You can pick up at either the Kiosk (using store credit or credit card) or the Main Booth (cash, store credit, credit card).

We should be sending out an email early next week with information plus an optional barcode you can bring (printed out or on your smart phone) that helps look up your account efficiently.

If you want to prepay for your order so you don't have to worry about it at the show, purchase a gift certificate in the amount of your playtest order and apply it to your account now.
Your Choice Gift Certificate.

Are the StarFinder pawns really going to be available? The product description says September.

Am I right in remembering that the playtest “packet” will ship separately from the other July products?

Whoo hoo! Starfinder Armory!

I hope this is the book with towels. :-)

The product update I have from Wednesday has the pawns as a Gen Con release, but it looks like I missed adding it to the July product list. Thanks for the catch!

Yes. The playtest materials are being settled and shipped separately. Our ETA for charging those orders is Mid-Late July.

Accidental ommission, they're all listed under one entry in the data I was using to create the list.

I switched my preference to GenCon pick-up, and the Dead Suns pawns disappeared from my subscriptions page entirely. If I have the order shipped, it shows up under the July shipment, but it's not listed with the GenCon pick-up items. Is this just a weird display thing?

I've poked its data state and this should be resolved. Let me know if you still see this behavior.

We're still waiting on one or more of the July items to arrive and have made the decision to push the order creation back until July 12th.

This means you also have an extra week to opt-in to subscription pick up at Gen Con.

Any word on the Starfinder Iconic Heroes & Fleet packs ppms?

Not going to Gen Con but I will be at PAX unplugged. So if I am reading this right, my debit card will charged for Arsenal (or as I am hoping to call it, "The Toy Box") next Thursday, July 12th?

Update about Playtest preorders:

If you need to have changes made to your shipping address or payment method, please contact customer service ASAP to request those changes.

Hello - I missed indicating that I want to pick my order up at Gen Con this year - I am going, is there any way that my subscription can be set for pickup at Gen Con??

I am already set to pick up my Playtest pre order at Gen Con.

Sorry!!!

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Starfinder Superscriber

Oh I see you folks have extended the option for Gen Con pickup, thank goodness!

However, I don't see the option to opt in for Gen Con pickup in my subscription page. Help?

I selected Gen Con pick up for the Playtest, and just got an email listing a shipping and handling charge.

Did I miss something? Can this still be changed?

Hello Warlord,

I have set your subscription for GenCon pickup.

Hello Soluzar,

When you placed the order you had set it to ship the order to you. At this point I am not able to change it to GenCon pickup any longer.

I went to try to update my pickup option for my map subscription to Gencon and the option isn't there for me either. Hopefully you can help me too Diego!!!

It is a reference to Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.

Hi Customer Service folks,

Could you guys also set my Subscription pickups for Gencon as well? I don't seem to have the option on the "My Subscriptions" page.

Could you also confirm my Playtest is set to pickup there? I recall selecting it but I can't seem to find any confirmation one way or the other. I understand if it is 'too late' to change that.

Lantern Lodge Customer Service & Community Manager

I poked the settings so it should be available on the My Subscription page again.

Thanks Sara,

I verified it is there and working!

UPDATE: We had anticipated being able to start charging for Playtest Preorders today, but we've been informed that there are a few more tweaks and loose ends to take care of before we are able to do so.

We will be updating this thread with details as soon as we are able. Thank you for your patience!

Lantern Lodge Customer Service & Community Manager

Erik K and Gary are working to make sure everything goes smoothly when we settle the payment methods on Playtest orders. We will update again when we begin that process (estimated this afternoon).

Customer service is working on getting requests for changes to orders as quickly as possible. If you need to update something on your playtest order and you have not yet gotten a response back from customer service, I would recommend giving us a call at 425-250-0800 as soon as possible. Our phones are open Monday - Friday from 10am- 5pm PST.

Thanks,

Playtest Preorder payment processing update: We understand everyone is eager to start seeing activity on their orders, however, we will be delaying this process another day while our tech team verifies that all of the goblins in the system will cooperate for payment processing. Thank you for your understanding and patience!

Thanks, Sharaya.

Is this likely to result in any delay on the end of the shipping window, do you think?

Am I right in understanding that the usual rules for charging/shipping = PDF availability apply to the standard July items, but not the playtest materials? If I am correct in that, will the PDFs for the playtest not be available before Aug 2, even for shipped customers?

The Playtest books are not subscription items, or Book+PDF bundles, so they don't even include access to the PDF in the first place.

Yeah, PDF downloads aren't going to be online before Aug 2.

Yeah, PDF downloads aren't going to be online before Aug 2.

This seems like a bad idea. This will lead to many people receiving their books before others, as such having access to the rules and the ear of the developers before others and a lot of bad feelings on the boards towards Paizo for this. I'd recommend releasing the PDF as soon as the first people receive their books and start posting on the boards about the contents.

Honestly, if it were me, I'd release the PDF as soon as everybody has been charged for their preorders. That way nobody can suddenly back out of their preorder and everybody gets access to the playtest book at the same time. I assume that the playtest PDF will be for free, though? Not that 10$ is a lot of money, but it probably would generate more buzz about the playtest if people could check it out for free.

Yeah it's free. I dont think its going to be that big a deal. Im guessing a few days prior to Aug 2 - maybe a week at most (given they havent even charged it yet three weeks out).

I doubt the devs will be saying much in that period and the proportion of people who preordered print copies getting it that early is going to be pretty slim.

Well, but what would be the reason to delay the PDF to August 2nd? There were only as many books printed as Paizo got preorders and after those have been charged, releasing the PDF early would serve to ensure that everybody can access the new rules at the same time.

If Paizo overprinted to sell some more playtest books at GenCon, having the PDF out by then would probably serve as another incentive for attendees to buy the books due to the added buzz.

I don't pretend to know, of course but if I were to hazard a guess it'd be that they want people at GenCon to be getting "the first taste" - that buzz is going to be reduced if everyone has been able to download it a week prior.

They could have delayed the books until after August 2nd, but then they'd face criticism from those of us who can't get to GenCon.

It seems to me that they've kind of walked a line balancing all the different cohorts of fans. In their perfect world, everyone's books will arrive on their doorsteps on August 2nd. That's not going to happen, but by the sounds of it it's likely to be a smaller window than the usual subscription run so any disruption or perceived slight will likely soon be forgotten.

As Vic mentioned, the "most important" bit of the playtest is going to be down the track - I suspect that if you're last in the queue it'll be a perception of inequity rather than a genuine barrier to having one's voice heard

Yes, but this perception of inequity will very likely lead to some rough weeks here on the boards, when the first people post their impressions way ahead of GenCon (if books start shipping, say, tomorrow, the first people in the US will get their books before Monday) and the inevitable panics start happening because people will misinterpret descriptions provided by other members of the messageboard. That could be completely avoided by releasing the PDF as soon as all credit cards have been successfully charged.

There is no "first taste" for the GenCon attendees, that will have already happened with a large percentage of the physical copies having arrived weeks before GenCon starts.

Maybe. I dont think its going to be that big a deal, personally. I'd be surprised if they start shipping the preorders that early (I believe the reason its so spread out usually is a factor of the size of paizo's warehouse crew - clearly not a problem for Amazon).

Hopefully it's just a few days.

Id be disappointed if they held off shipping the books until the pdf was released. I'm glad they try to get physical and electronic versions in people's hands at the same day (as near as possible anyhow).

Well, they said in their mail from a few days ago: "Pathfinder Playtest orders being shipped will be charged for on Monday, July 9. We expect the books to begin shipping in mid to late July." So, if we say that they start shipping on Monday, July 16th, then by Wednesday people will be getting their books, two weeks before GenCon.

We'll see how it goes. I just wanted to make a suggestion and give my reasons for it.

Playtest Update: Gary has been polishing up the last bit of code to process the Playtest orders and Erik has been poking and prodding it to make sure it does all of what it is supposed to. We are on track to process those order this afternoon. The orders are being "processed for shipment" working with the 3rd party fulfillment services is a little different than our usual procedures, and I will do my best to update on when those packages start leaving their fulfillment warehouses.

The PDFs will be available for free on August 2nd to everyone regardless of where (or if) they've purchased physical copies.

Also, if you did not preorder a copy through paizo.com or another retailer and you want a copy I would strongly recommend picking one up as soon as possible from a local game store or other retailer, or our booth at Gen Con. This product is not being reprinted.

It's a moot point since the download servers will meltdown on the 2nd when the PDF goes live anyway.
