I went to try to update my pickup option for my map subscription to Gencon and the option isn't there for me either. Hopefully you can help me too Diego!!!

Had a situation come up at a table I was playing at that I wouldn't allow and that clearly the GM wasn't comfortable with but we didn't have clear rules on it. We had a paladin at the table using a weapon cord to hang on to her wooden tower shield. When needed she would release the shield and free that hand. Twice she was called on to use her bow....With a 40 pound wooden tower shield hanging from one hand.
I feel there should at least be a penalty to her bow use and wouldn't the release of a 40 pound shield to drop to her side cause a problem? Or is this just me applying real world logistics again?

1. Blindsense, Darkvision, high Stealth, and telepathy are pretty neat. And the poisoned sting might come in handy. They are a bit underpowered for a 7th level familiar, but not a bad choice to take at 5th. I say that if you like the RP, go with it.

2. I really enjoy my Harrow deck. I try to have it on me whenever I play with my Cartomancer witch. He doesn't actually have mechanics that depend on it, but I enjoy drawing cards and seeing how they match up with an encounter, or making choices like "Left, Right, or Straight ahead?" with them. The cards come up in scenarios occasionally.

**John Compton cut my Harrow deck as I was playing this scenario. I'm pretty sure that means it is compelled to reveal the secrets of any game my Medium plays from now on.

Hi Fromper! I THINK i was your GM for Gencon. I debated on the harrow deck, but I found it super helpful when running the Harrowing module (Which I LOVED) and I am now considering making a harrower.

I can run if you need an additional GM for a table. But play would be preferable for me as well.

You sir, are awesome! I will be running this 7 times at Gencon. This will make prep EVER so much easier!

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

Thanks Tonya! And of course our evergreens which are prepped and ready to go. :):):)

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

I should probably add that I am also staying at the Westin and arriving sometimes early Wednesday

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

I'm interested in games but came to this post late. :( Sad sad tears

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

I have alerted the VO that here is some clarification that needs to be addressed concerning replays. :) Thank you again to everyone for the advise and feedback.

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

I have sadly (okay not really) been assigned 8-1 to run. Does anyone know how far out those are released?

Brad - I can honestly say I am not loosey goosey with the replay rules. If you have played it and I don't NEED you at my table to fire I will ask you to leave. This particular situation had a GM star thrown in and a player who is not allowed to GM anymore which is why I couldn't split the tables.

A replay is a replay, the reasoning for disallowing it is the same:

"Some GMs may not be comfortable running an adventure for players who have foreknowledge of what is to come."

The thing is, the foreknowledge isn't the actual reason for discomfort here. It sounds like the discomfort is actually that he wants to replay a scenario while someone else is waiting to play it for the first time. Using a rule intended for a different issue to deny the replayer doesn't sound entirely fair to me.

I'm still unclear on how this came to happen in the first place. Did you schedule a table, he signed on, and only later did you actually pick a scenario? Or did you pick a scenario, and he signed on and was ready to spend a GM star to play it?

GM stars are fairly precious. It's something you tend to spend only on specific scenarios you really want to replay, not just "I wanna play but there's nothing else on".

Or in the case that this player had already claimed a seat at the table before the scenario was chosen - why select a scenario that one of the signed-up players has already played?

We ran into planning difficulties too, until one of our people came up with the wonderful session tracker as a way to quickly select scenarios that a group of people can all still play.

No, I schedule a month at a time. When I open the session it already has a scenario picked for it. I try to alternate between older and newer scenarios. He signed on knowing he had played it and thought to ask before showing up since I had 2 people waitlisted for the game.

This particular player is unable to make it to other game locations so he will sign up for everything at this one site. Oftentimes he won't remember that he's played a scenario until during or after the first combat.

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

No, our standing policy is that if you have played and we can fire a legal table without them then the GM has discretion over whether he will allow a player to replay. But I had never had a player pull the star before. I wasn't sure if there was a standard protocol in situations like this.

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Luckily fair minds prevailed and he *kindly* stepped aside with an offer to play a scenario he definitely hasn't played in our next months scheduling :)

You guys are awesome. Thanks a bunch. It was a difficult call and I appreciate everyones feedback.

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

Yes, its just a tough call. He no longer GM's and he's played a large number of the scenarios so he's asked to sit out a number of games

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

Thank you all. Sorry for my vague questions.

So if he hasn't used it, he still has it. And if he still has it and he won't budge I have to let him play?

Hmmmmm....

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

Sorry, no I meant is a star infinite until you use it and then its gone or say for example:
I have 3 stars currently, at the end of the year will they reset whether or not I use them?

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

I'm thinking he won't. His exact wording was "Are you going to make me burn a GM star to play tonight?"

But do the stars reset at the end of the year? He hasn't run a game at all this year, and he does not attend Cons so I am pretty sure he doesn't have the narrative boon.

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

I have a table planned that has 6 signed up players and 2 waitlisted. One of the signed up players has played it before and wants to burn a GM credit to replay. Can I still tell him not to play so the other players have a chance to play it for the first time?

Also, when do GM stars reset?

I'd love to hear more about this. I'll be doing GenCon games this year and I run a lot of convention games. And I have a light Minnie mouse voice and people have trouble hearing me. ;/

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

Totally following this. :):) I always need more advise and help. And I'm running my first PbP tomorrow.

I love that we aren't prepping eight scenarios. With the specials likely coming out near Con time, it's nice to be able to concentrate on all the prep, terrain and NPC work for one scenario now.
I did eight unique preps for Gen Con my first year. The convention itself wasn't bad, but the prep work almost broke me the week before the convention.

Rigby - are you there this year??? That's exciting!!

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

Confirmation of receipt sent. Since this is my first Gencon how does the hotel issue work. It states 1/4 of the hotel is covered. And is that for check in Thursday and check out Sunday? Thanks all!

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

I have a bunch of the evergreens and tier 1-2 scenarios pre-prepped so I can bring those with me just in case. Though I was serious I would be very interested in running seeker scenarios :):)

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

We are at the Westin this year, which is the hotel that is connected by the bridge outside the Sagamore.

Awesome Thank you kindly sir!

I think there are only 10 session slots scheduled correct? I am currently signed up for 8....what's 2 more? :O

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

Will the 8 slot gms be staying close to the convention center? I only ask because I could run an additional game or two but I'm concerned about the time it will take to get to and from a room. Since this is my first trip.

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

Okay, I didn't mean it as a rush or a complaint. I was actually just asking. I'm in the process of prepping something else. Thank you for the answer.

Grand Lodge **** Venture-Agent, Virginia—Norfolk aka LaShana

Is this module not allowed for PFS? I have been looking and looking for a chronicle sheet. And I have it broken out and scheduled for three sessions. :/ Thanks for any help!

Thank you so very much! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't allowing him to make a character that wouldn't be accepted elsewhere.

Hi, so I had signed up to volunteer but hadn't registered with GenCon yet. I have now done both. Is there someone I should advice that I now have a valid GenCon registration? Thanks a bunch!

Good morning, I have a PC who wants to build a wayang wild child brawler/cavalier/hunter who would take the monstrous mount feat. He would then acquire a wrog mount. I don't see any problems with it since he is a small PC and the wrog is a medium creature AND he has both the cavalier/hunter classes. This is my first GM call regarding a character build and I wanted to make sure I was reading the rules right. Thanks a bunch!
