I'm prepping this for Gencon and noticed an error in the Artist's sheet.

Spoiler:
He melee attack lists a +1 flaming Kukri, yet her weapon Focus feat and Other gear section still lists it as a scimitar.

I'll tell players to treat the second two as if the first.

Yeah, it got updated but some parts just got missed. It should all be with the new weapon now.

That's what I thought. I wouldn't have caught it if I hadn't been going line by line to see if the pregens had changed.
Reason I was doing that, My original print was on a color laser, very good color quality. The reprints had to be done on an inkjet while it was running low on black ink.

Oh, don't worry; I applied it to my bard. I just want it sooner, is all. Seeing as I used a pregen, I simply put his number down, and now I just have to play two more games...unless I was suddenly able to put the credit on now, of course.

I admit I'm a corner case, just curious. But thank you for reminding me about the GM star...I may well use it. This scenario's THAT COOL.

That makes me another corner.

Nother only this, but her feats and abilities all still say scimitar. I.e.weapon focus

With the recent errata regarding slashing grace, the Artist cannot utilize spell combat and simultaneously apply dexterity to damage.

So the chronicles I was given to hand out to my players still said "level 7" instead of "level 6-8."

Which is appropriate?

Agreed. We updated the adventure's pdf just before Gen Con to expand the level range in which one could assign the credit.

Am I correct in assuming that my gm credit from running this at Paizocon is retroactively updated and the character its applied to can get credit at level 6 rather than 7?

So technically the Serpent's Rise chronicle sheet is one that is 'earned with a non-1st-level pre-generated character'; can you therefore apply it to a level 1 character under the Guide rules with the reward reduced to 500gp?

That seems to be the point! Though there is one key caveat people often forget, when they apply chronicle sheets to new level 1 characters (as opposed to holding onto them, and applying them when the character hits level X).

Quote:

Any boons must wait to be utilized until the character is of the same level as the subtier on the Chronicle sheet unless otherwise noted.

Okay, this is driving me up the wall, I have to ask:

Is the name of this scenario Serpents Rise or Serpent's Rise? The product page has it without the apostrophe, the scenario itself includes it.

It should just be Serpents Rise without the apostrophe, though the title works with that punctuation.

She was a dang fun one to write, as were all of the pregenerated characters. I looking forward to touching on their exploits over the course of Season 7.

I like the in-scenario version of the title personally.

Yeesh. Six hours running today and our five man party TPKed by an angry wizard. Those failed saves really messed the party over.

Silver Crusade

That wizard is a beast. One of the best fights I've seen in PFS.

Even with a table full of experienced players, that fight could have easily gone the other way. We got lucky at my table and he rolled a 1 on his save versus Glitterdust, giving us some vital time.

Grand Lodge 4/5

Even biffing the concentration check to defensive cast Feeblemind on 322, I still put four of the five characters down before he was out of damage spells. This included using his debuff spells and even taking a round to cast tongues and taunt them as per tactics. The Professional was the last man standing and failed the Fort save versus a bonded item casting of Enemy Hammer that bludgeoned her against the wall to unconsciousness.

Shadow Lodge 4/5 **** Venture-Captain, Michigan—Mt. Pleasant

Sadly he is really screwed over with the four player adjustments. I was down to having to use his hand of the apprentice and wand of magic missile was almost out of charges... :/

All of them, as it's not on their spell list

Ah, makes sense. I thought it was. Don't play many wizards. :-(

Dataphiles 3/5

Played this at Strategicon this year, and thought it was great. The end fight was challenging though at our table we were basically just waiting for him to die(I played the slayer and hit him with the poison early in the fight.) Wizards = Phenomenal cosmic power, itty bitty Fort save.

Silver Crusade 2/5

played the scenario:
I traded in the magus for the dragon. Blindsense really helped the rest of the party get to him initially, and allowed a glitterdust to be targeted. My own attacks were not very important to the fight.

Grand Lodge 5/5

Tangaroa, as slashing grace was updated after this scenario was published I beleive I read somewhere that the pregens should be run as they were (pre update) rather than chaged. The update reduced the power of slashing grace by not allowing it to apply while the off hand was otherwise employed.

Sovereign Court 1/5

The TOZ ran this for us this weekend at Rincon, and several of us at the table remarked that it was our most fun experience with PFS in a long time.

My wife Looooved 322 and wants to make a version of the character. She RPed the character with a Luna Lovegood quality and it came off creepy and great.

I played The Professional and was the only one to go down (but not dead!) in the final combat. There was great teamwork involved and we felt like we really accomplished something in a tough fight taking out Mr. Zey.

I really enjoyed the individual second prestige points and the fact that the success and failure of them contributed to the overall mission instead of being simple fetch quests for a 2nd pp.

Two thumbs way up for this scenario.

Yes, playing the dragon is certainly not about combat. I think GMs need to encourage people to take this strictly as a roleplaying boon, and play it to the hilt. I've only GMd it, and when I play I will take the dragon because, well, it's a dragon.

The problem with that is by the time you get him, there's really only one room left, and it's one big fight. I'd love it if there was more time/places to RP him.

Is it possible for me to get my players to experience this scenario if there are no 4 star GMs in my country? Is online the only option?

I guess I can GM another 71 sessions next week so I reach 4 stars, but that's going to feel a bit rushed, I think. :)

Or you could talk to 4-5 star GMs from close countries to see if they could come run for you. For example, you have a 5-star Venture-Captain around 90 minutes from you.

I just played this scenario at Conception in Illinois and wanted to give a huge shout out to John, Linda, and Jim. This was an amazing experience from start to finish and is easily my favorite scenario. The pregens in particular were fun and interesting. I feel more attached to The Professional than some of my own characters. I think it is telling that nobody at our table wanted to give up their character because they really wanted to see the personal stories play out. I do feel a little sorry for Zey in the 4 player adjustment. He was really hit hard by the loss of some of those spells.

Thanks again and please consider 6-97 and 6-98 to be a tremendous success. There is a lot of buzz in our area about these scenarios and it is all positive.

Thank you for your reply. I don't feel too comfortable, however, asking Auke to drive three hours to GM a game to people he doesn't know at all. Also, if he's the only one who can GM it, he'll probably have people from his own lodge asking him the same question, right? :)

I very much appreciate that 4-5 star GMs get a reward and don't mean to be arrogant about it. I just wish that this scenario hadn't received so much praise, because now I'm super eager to play it! ;)

Some of our group is going to Holland soon for The Sky Key Solution. We'll see what comes out of that. If it's superawesome, I might be able to chalk up the courage to ask even more from Auke. :p

Thanks again.

There's a VL in Amsterdam that has 5 stars as well and I got two 4 star GMs that will gladly run Serpents Rise to get their 10 specials.

I'll gladly run a game of True Dragons in Antwerpen. I do need some time to properly prep the game (get the right minis painted and the maps printed). Too bad I can't borrow Chris Hays' amazing 3D terrain.

As is the case for other pregenerated character specials, you would distribute an extra copy of one of the pregenerated characters to one player.

I strongly recommend against fielding a seven person table for this or #6-99. Especially for this adventure, you'll find the encounters don't necessarily hold up to seven PCs, and the duplicate characters will not get the experience of being the unique specialists with individual missions--all in addition to the other complications that seven-person tables tend to introduce.

That is a good point that I'll add with a few other minir changes I noted from this weekend. A GM should only earn one of the Aspis boons of her choice.

Darn... I was thinking getting access to all the boons would be a nice reward for the 4-5 stars running it.

Sczarni 4/5

I have to say that I did not enjoy this scenario, but I suspect that it might have been better experience in other circumstances.

I took the Leader pregen as I felt that only me or another player at the table had sufficient experience to guide the party through. The notes about objective confused me completely and several other players also misunderstood their objectives. After successfully infiltrating into the castle and a single guard encounter, we walked around trying to find the first objective and mistakenly concluded that it would be best to attempt to find Aram Zey first. It ended in partial TPK and mission failure from that point on and my enchanter wizard was fairly helpless case. I know that this practice of putting high CR foes (CR +4 or higher) probably won't stop, but in my experience it tends to end badly.

There was a lot of roleplay opportunities in the scenario however, so from that perspective it seemed pretty cool and alluring.

Akin to this... can we waive the replay for no credit rule to get a party of 6? I've not run into this issue yet, (Columbus tables 3 and four are going off tomorrow) but it would be nice since missing any of the Aspis gang detracts from the experience.

Lantern Lodge 4/5

Just to be clear for the rewards on the Chronicle itself. If a certain Pre-gen was not present, the spoil for the character is not rewarded?

Dark Archive 5/5 *

Correct. To get that boon, a player has to fulfill their pregens "faction missions".
Its individual.

4/5 *

To be clear: each PC gets their own boon (only)- the whole group doesn't get them all just because those PCs were present.

Grand Lodge 4/5

I'm curious how often which characters got the feeblemind spell?

I hit the wizard yesterday. DC26 save, rolled a 21. He has to roll a 17 to save!

On my table, the magus went dragon, so the wizard was the only obvious caster. And casters are dangerous!

The Concordance

So all the players can apply the Chronicle to 6-8 PC, right? They don't have to follow the general pregen applying rule, that Pregen credit can only apply to the PC whose level is lower than the pregen.
