Worlds of Adventure

An alien landscape, an abandoned space station, the twisting corridors of your own starship—the possibilities for adventure are endless with Starfinder Flip-Mat: Basic Terrain! Map is not a 30x24 grid

*( )( )( )( )

The art for this map is neat enough; a metal grid on one side and sandy wastes on another; these would fit in many starfinder games.

However, even though the map is 30" by 24", the grid is NOT a 30x24. It's closer to 21 x 27 squares, but even then several have incomplete squares that overflow on the edges. This means you can't pair it with any of the (many) other 24 x 30 flip mats Paizo produced. It feels painfully sloppy as a first "basic" product for the line.

I hope Paizo re-issues them at the standard 30" by 24" as advertised on the mat.

Beautiful art, bad sizing

***( )( )

The art on both sides is beautiful, and exactly what I wanted, since I have my Pathfinder basic flipmat if I want something really plain. However, the grid size problem just makes it really hard to use, hence the loss of 2 stars.

Definitely stay away

*( )( )( )( )

I bought two of these and I regret it. You can't use the mat in conjunction with any other because the grid size is only 27 x 21, NOT 30 x 24 like advertised. I advise everyone to wait until these are corrected before purchasing.

Great for Starfinder and Pathfinder!

I have to admit: I'm a little surprised by the other reviews of this map here! I was super-excited to see these maps in my FLGS a couple of weeks ago. I'm not ready to start a Starfinder campaign just yet (although I am chomping at the bit), but I was right in the middle of the first adventure for Iron Gods, and this mat hit the spot so perfectly that I literally couldn't have asked for better.

I wish that Paizo would do more "standard" or "basic" map types like this, rather than weirdly specific locations that I can't really fit in to my Adventure Path play. I'd buy twenty different basic terrain sets before even purchasing one specific location map. More! More!

A Pain to Outline

**( )( )( )

I will start off with the good, as the designs on these are pretty good. The desert side has a nice look to it, without being too busy to cause trouble putting anything on top of it. And the steel plating side gives a nice feel for a metallic hull for being on board a starship of your design.

As mentioned before, the size of the squares feel 'off,' they don't line up with the normal 8x10 per folded section that many of us have become accustomed to from our Pathfinder Flip-Mats.

But my biggest complaint is the lines themselves.
Most "basic" terrain flipmats (y'know the ones that don't have buildings and furniture all about) have either subdued gray, or lighter/thinner lines. The lines on this are thick, dark black. When I ran my first scenario using these I started to outline a building on the steel-plate side, and realized that I could not see my regular wet-erase marker as I was drawing, except for the bits where I missed the line a little bit.
As the lines on the map are black, it meant a simple color change wasn't going to fix it. I ended up having to scribble thick line that were wider than the printed lines just to have building and obstacle outlines be visible.

I feel like the image designs are fine, but would like to see these maps without half-squares on the edges that I can't really use, sized & lined up with the folds, and with grids that I can use to guide my straight lines without them being invisible.
