Alexos Virden |
Alexos compares the two feathers to one another, attempting to discern their purpose.
I think that is a perception check so rolling that... correct me if I am wrong though.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Hm... why were you hidden in statues behind magically locked doors? What do you do?
Sefu Sekala |
"I can likely infer their purpose, Alexos, if you'd hand them here," Sefu says, hitching his khopesh to his belt.
If the monk hands him the feathers, the magus will cast detect magic on them and attempt to identify them.
If Sefu can identify them by taking 10 (for a DC of 18), he will. If not, use the two Spellcraft rolls in the spoiler.
Spellcraft - Feather #2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Ting Tang |
'ay you's blokes; no traps, no locks, no sounds, Least as way's best I can figure, wroight?
ting looks around speaking to the group
Alexos does ya wanna be tha first cheeky bugger threw them stoneys,or is tha yeti there looking at Hans no affence wroight? Or mister shiney swordthat is a nice sword gonna beat ya too em? Or does we make up a plan now? I's willin' ta go sidy by sidy wit any o' you's blokes or I's can bring up tha rears so's ta speak
GM Baerlie |
If Alexos hands the feathers to Sefu, he can identify them as Whip Feather Token.
Ting Tang |
ting turns right and goes twenty foot up the hall, he stops at the door on the right. he listen for any sound and looks for traps.
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 listening
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 looking for traps
if there is no sound or traps he will open the door if it is locked he will take twenty unlocking it, then he will open it, I assume a little "if, then" is ok as long as we do not get carried away,
well 'ear goes nothin' ting says as he opens the door
Alexos Virden |
Alexos follows behind, marking everything on the mapmaker.
Hm... we should check for traps... but also it wouldn't hurt to check for hidden passages... you never know when some architect would get the bright idea to build one.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Standard Pregen |
"Hold, Ting-Tang; just in case there *is* something hostile on the other side of the door, are you sure that you want to go first?"
Ting Tang should feel free to go first, but Hans is happy to go up front if he wants a meat shield ;-)
Ting Tang |
He looks so... tough!
get a room, oh, wait, ting will open the door and you can have a room :-)
Ting truly impressed that Hans would show him so much care, but not wanting to look chicken
Its all wroights I's can jump backs as fas' as I cans forwards, wroight?
and baring no sounds, traps or other such things he opens the door and looks around
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
If there is a threat ting will either move out of the doorway or he will slide to the side throwing a chakram so he can flank, that way someone can potentially charge (hmm maybe the fellow who -18 the "tentackly thingy":-)
Ting Tang |
Viincent, help me with your context, are you moving the plot along with your question letting us know your here and waiting for more information also. Or, are you encouraging me to listen to the other members of the team, or both? I'm still terribly new to all this, so any help would be appreciated and listened to, thanks
GM Baerlie |
After leaving the room with the statue, you see a long hallway going north and a shorter one going west. The rooms left and right of the northern hallway are embalming rooms. Each of them was dedicated to one of the rewards of rule, or sinds, embraced by the seven runelords.
Pressing his ear at the first door on the right side of the hallway Ting doesn't hear anything and he opens the door.
A large circle of tarnished silver powder, surrounded by arcane symbols, has been laid down on the floor in the center of this room. The center of the circle is empty, but Ting sees that the circle has a gap in it. A bound outsider was once conjured to guard this chamber, but its binding circle was accidentally broken by tomb raiders centuries ago, releasing the guardian from its term of service.
This room is dedicated to the sin of sloth.
You identify the circle on the floor as a magic circle against evil.
Ting Tang |
blimey, 'at don't look wroight, You's blokes 'at knows magicy stuff may wanna eye balls 'is Ting joins Felicatas in searching the room, avoiding the broken circle her perception is good enough to find the scroll, so he's just looking because he's a nosey bird. did Alesox's search for hidden doors turn up anything?
Standard Pregen |
You may want to share what you found, Felicitas ;-)
With no threat immediately presenting itself, Hans steps aside, waiting for those of a more scholarly bent to explain the significance of the chamber.
Ting Tang |
ting, after satisfying his curiosity, steps out of the room and back into the hallway, visibly shaken he quietly says to Hans
I's don't likes 'at, I's use ta honest thieves, crooks an smugglers, not bloody magics he then turns and goes a little further up the hallway.
ting will wander about fifteen foot, halfway to the next door on the right, and take twenty on a perception check, while he is waiting (if that's ok :-)} since ting has low light vision can he see further up the hallway? I don't think any of us saw the doors on the left on the map, if possible based on the time constraints to take twenty would ting have enough time to listen at the first left hand door and check it for traps, or should he role perception checks?
Feli2 |
"This is most interesting. You know, in Thassalonian each school of magic was connected to a cardinal sin. This room is dedicated to the sin of Sloth! And see there is a scroll, I am curious, this could be an item written in the apex of the thessalonian empire. I will now assume, we will find more rooms dedicated to sins. If I remember correctly, and please, I am not sure, sloth was connected to necromancy. Or enchantment. No, I think enchantment was envy. And wrath was evocation. Most interesting."
Ting Tang |
ting, after checking the door on the left and the next two up the hall, comes back to the party,
Oy,Viincent, I's finally 'eard a bit, nothin' from 'is first door pointing across the hall to the left hand door but I's heard movement from both o' 'em twos up 'air, Wroight pointing to the two doors in the middle of the hallway, ting unsheathes his sword mioght be tyme ta let tha fatherless do's a little woik, lets check 'is first door jus' ta make sure'sy mothin's comin up behin' us, wroight? turning to Hans I ain't one ta be a hog, so's ta speak, would ya likes ta goes foist this time yer bigness? no affence wroight?
the magic circle shook ting up a little and he would be happy if Hans would like to open the next door
GM Baerlie |
Brightly painted carvings along the walls of this room vividly depict mighty dragons in flight over shining cities, while below, winged angels kneel and serve human masters. Peacock-feather motifs dominate throughout the chamber, and a faint, pleasant perfume drifts though the air. Several humans lie supine atop biers draped in rich cloth — if they are dead, the bodies are perfectly preserved and have the appearance of relaxed sleepers, showing no signs of corruption or decay.
More information on Xavorax and the caulborn can be found on pages 57–58 and 62–63 of City of Strangers. GM doesn't own this book.
Standard Pregen |
Will: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (4) - 2 = 2.
Hans whistles.
"Well, that looks impressive!"
Once again, as there is no immediate obvious threat, he stands aside, letting those better-qualified explore the room.
Ting Tang |
will: 1d20 ⇒ 5
bloody well wroight, now 'ats wha I's yappen 'bout
ting, knowing that all humans are buried with riches beyond galore, sheaths his sword and begins to search the room,
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
he will first check the room and then begin to search each body for coins on the eyes, or in the mouths, if he cannot find anything, he will begin searching other body cavities until he gives up, figures it out or someone tells him it is an illusion
Alexos Virden |
Wow... I really missed out on a lot it seems! Going for the knowledge check on the first room, the will resist... then if I succeed the knowledge for room 2.
Knowledge (room 1): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Will Resist: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
... well, no idea about the first room, but at least I made the save!
Knowledge (room2): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
... missed it by This much
Alexos shakes his head as the illusion disolves into dust.
This room isn't what it appears. It is empty, those riches you saw aren't real. Does anyone know what Xavorax is?
Ting Tang |
ting looking around shocked and appalled looks at Alexos and asks
Oy,what do ya means it aint real it mus' be reals looks at it
if I understand properly we now get a rerole at +4
"If any viewer successfully disbelieves an illusion and communicates this fact to others, each such viewer gains a saving throw with a +4 bonus."
will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
so does that mean ting refuses to believe its an illusion and he will search until he gives up? Also should we slow the posts down or keep going like this until combat and everyone has an action in each combat round, just a newby looking for answers :-( thanks
Viincent |
Will: 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 4 = 10 Oh come on!
Viincent begins to "loot" the room, "I believe you're mistaken Alexos. These riches are as real as you and me."
Alexos Virden |
Alexos watches as his companions continue to pick up pieces of dust, claiming them to be treasure. He sighs.
No, they aren't real. You are holding dust, shades, nothing of substance. Just trust me. Feli, do you know what a Xavorax is or why it or he might be causing our friends here to see treasures where there are none?
Ting Tang |
Creatures encountering an illusion usually do not receive saving throws to recognize it as illusory until they study it carefully or interact with it in some fashion.
A successful saving throw against an illusion reveals it to be false, but a figment or phantasm remains as a translucent outline.
A failed saving throw indicates that a character fails to notice something is amiss. a character faced with proof that an illusion isn't real needs no saving throw. If any viewer successfully disbelieves an illusion and communicates this fact to others, each such viewer gains a saving throw with a +4 bonus.
Sefu Sekala |
I'm in the same boat as Alexos, so I'll just go ahead and post my rolls for the first and second room.
First Room
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18
"I believe you're right, Felicitas," Sefu says, taking a closer look at the circle on the ground. "I can try to identify that scroll for you once I'm finished investigating this circle. It appears to be some kind of protective seal against evil. I fear something terrible might have been released from it here, where the circle is broken."
Second Room
Willpower: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
"I had heard of extravagant tombs - even some magically enhanced, but nothing I've ever seen compares to this!" Sefu says, entering the lavishly decorated room. "Alexos, surely you jest. This room is as real as you or I."
Ting Tang |
I liked the fast pace but I don't want to hog the game, I'm just trying to remember that even though I'm not sitting at a table there are still others playing. :-)
also are those types of questions ok on "gameplay" or would you prefer we use "discussions"?
Lastly, can we take twenty on realizing this is an illusion, or do we need to role a will save every time we interact with it, or do we just loot the room of it's "expensive cloth" only later to find it is dust, would the cloth still be cloth outside of the room?
ting frustrated that he couldn't find any coins or gems removes one of the expensive cloths on the bier and takes it out into the hallway
Heys, Hans what do ya think 'is bit o' bed sheets would fetch up in tha great white north? wroight?
Standard Pregen |
Will: 1d20 - 2 + 4 ⇒ (9) - 2 + 4 = 11.
Hans shrugs.
"Burial linen is usual quite fine, but I don't recommend lugging it around the entire complex... it tends to be quite bulky. We can come back for it later, if necessary. Why don't we move on to the next room?"
So saying, he moves over to the second door on the right.
Ting Tang |
'ome on along you's blokes,
ting says to the party over his shoulder as he drops the cloth and follows Hans up the hall.
We's 'ill be reals democratic lyke, you's do tha right doors an when 'ats done I.s'l do tha lefty, Wroight?
on the way to the doors ting will do a quick track check to see if there are any foot prints other than there own
survival to track: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Alexos Virden |
Alexos just rolls his eyes.
Sure, have fun with those "spoils" later. Tell me how much you get for them.
Alexos follows Hans and Ting, recording their progress as he goes on his mapmaker, and keeping
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
