Going down to the bottom of the stairs, Hans looks at the strange, tentacled beast, wrinkling his nose.
"Does anyone know what that was? It certainly doesn't look particularly friendly..."
GM Baerlie
|
When you reach the bottom of the you hear the grinding noise of the stone door again. The door upstairs is closed again.
The room at the bottom of the stairs is a square chamber. The walls are covered by old carvings, thick with dust and cobwebs. Three sets of stone double doors stand in the three facing walls. Heavy bronze seals emblazoned with the symbol of Pharasma secure the doors against whatever lies beyond.
The carvings on the walls hearken back to an earlier age, when Thassilon was at its height, but many have since been defaced. Ting Tang finds more recent but though still old graffiti scrawled on the northern wall. It reads “My heart beats on the wrong side of my chest, or is it right? Is left right, or is it wrong? I don’t know what it means, or why”.
The three stone doors at the north, east and west wall are all sealed with arcane lock, but the chime of opening easily dispels the seals if used.
| Standard Pregen |
Hans looks puzzled.
"If the door up top, and these three doors, are the only way to get into the stairwell, how did that creature get in here?!"
Shrugging, he turns to regard the doors, thoughtfully...
"Does anyone have any particular preferences? The right door seems like the right choice to me, unless anyone has any better suggestions..."
Ting Tang
|
hows can yer heart beat on tha wrong side?, this gibberish makes no sence ta me, Wroigt? Hearing Hans suggestion and taking it to heart Ting Tang heads over to the door on the right, and listening carefully and looking for traps, I assume it is two checks one to listen one for traps
perception(to listen): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
perception (for traps): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

seems lyke we's good ta go, unless someone else wants ta take a listen looking at the rest of the team whose got tha tubie thingy? ting looks at everyone expectantly as he steps back from the doors
if the party decides to take a lot of time to investigate the writings, ting would take 20 listening at the right door then the top then the left, not likely but just in case
Ting Tang

ting ruffles his tail feathers and stands up a little straighter after the compliment from the near-giant he can be a little bit of a Sycophant, insecurities due to height issues, don't ya know

Whoa! 32 new posts since last night. Took me while to catch up.
Snapping out of his latest daze, Viincent says, "Perhaps we should listen at the other doors before proceeding."
Perception, north: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Perception, west: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
After satisfying his curiosity and not hearing a thing, he turns to the others, "It would seem that the eastern door is as good a place to start as any."
Ting Tang
|
While Viincent is listening at the other two doors ting sheath his sword and takes his lock picks out and starts messing with the lock on the east door. I read up on arcane lock, I wsn't sure if mundane methods might work
disable device: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
well so much for ruffled tail feathers and standing taller, can we see a mundane lock as well as knowing there is an arcane lock, It might be worth our time to take 20 on picking this and save the chimes, any opinions?

Knowledge (history): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Alexos examines engravings... and his jaw drops as he recognizes them.
Well, it seems this day just got a lot more interesting. Our friends upstairs built their church and crypt on an ancient Thassilonian site... or at least a site that references each of the seven Runelords. Ting, keep your eyes open and expect more traps. Not as much is know about the contemporaries of the Aslanti except that they were not fans of intruders.
Alexos records the drawings and writing down in his journal.
Alexos Virden
|
Alexos will also be recording the place on his mapmaker as he goes. It will give a bonus to survival checks made to keep from getting lost, but it also is a handy roleplay tool for wrapping up at the end... makes it more believable that I can accurately reproduce a map of the area for the Society and anyone else that wants one. :)
Viincent
|
After Alexos concludes his cartography, Viincent steps over to the eastern door and holds up the Chime of Opening, "Gentlemen, lady. Shall we proceed?"
Alexos Virden
|
Will using it open all the doors or just one? If only one my inclination would be to let Ting take the time to take a 20 on the lock.
Wait a second Viincent, shouldn't we consult our master locksmith before resorting to using our only way out of this ruin?
Ting Tang
|
if I understand arcane lock right its a d20 that stacks with any other lock, in my earlier post I asked if there is a mundane lock with the arcane lock or not. ting should be able to take 20 on just the arcane lock if that's all there is. Of course all of this is with GM Baerlie's approval, so lets try this
Ting looks closer at the lock to see if it is both a mundane lock and or an arcane lock, nodding his head in agreement with Alexos
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 wow that awful, I'm not sure with that role he can find the door
If ting can identify that there is only an arcane lock he would like to take 20 on disable device to open it, if this is not possible we should use the chime
Wroight you are, Blimey, I'd love ta take another cracks at it
Ting gets out his lock picks to try the door again
Alexos Virden
|
Let me take a look. I may not be a locksmith, but I think I can at least identify that a lock is there in the first place.
Alexos smiles at Ting and looks at the door.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Yep, if it has a lock I think I found it.
Alexos Virden
|
Also, my more knowledgeable friends can correct me (cough)(cough)Feli(cough)(cough)Baerlie(cough)(cough) but you might be able to unlock it even if it is more than just a magic lock. Taking a 20 is just taking that for the roll... you still get your modifiers added in. So if it is a simple enough regular lock then you might still be able to beat it, arcane or no.
GM Baerlie
|
Alexos can see that the door is locked by the arcane lock only. Ting takes his time to open the lock and the door swings open.
A large statue stands in the corner of this L-shaped room, depicting a tall feather emblazoned with a large open eye. Though apparently carved from stone, the statue gleams with a golden-green iridescence. A pair of stone doors stands in the east wall in the short leg of the L.
Carved into the floor between the western doors and the statue is the following inscription: “Though veiled behind the plumage of the soul, the Eye still sees, unblinking, through all the ages, from the beginning to the end of time. When the Three are One, and the spirit becomes flesh, the Seal may be opened and the Sleepers awakened. And the glorious apocalypse shall consume us all.”
The “doors” to the east are featureless except for a strangely shaped depression where they meet.
You identify the obscure deity as the Peacock Spirit, a god of mind, body, and soul, whose worship ended with the empire’s fall.

KnowReligion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
"OOh. This is about the peacock spirit. In the time of thassilon the peacock spirit was one of the main deitys. I think one of the runelords was associated as a follower but the hints are sparse and information quite hard to come by. Very interesting. Very. Alexos could you please add a remark that i do have to check the library in Absolom. Maybe they have someone who knows more about this subject."
Alexos Virden

Noted, recorded, depicted.
Alexos remarks as he copies everything down in his journal. He then updates the room on the mapmaker.
Apocalypse huh... I somehow doubt that the seals this... spirit... is eluding to is related to the ones Pharasma's followers have place here. Still, best be on our guard. Whatever these sleepers are, it is not likely they are friendly.
Alexos takes a look around. Something doesn't seem right.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
GM Baerlie
|
Examining the doors Alexos reveals that they’re actually one solid piece of stone carved with a seam to look like a pair of doors.
Alexos also finds a hidden compartment in the statue. Within is a single green feather that functions as a feather token (bird).
| Standard Pregen |
Knowledge(Arcana): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20.
What a waste of a natural 20 :-P
Much to everyone's surprise, the hulking barbarian pipes up:
"You know, I don't think the chime would work on this obstacle... It is not an actual door (or at least, not in its current configuration)... Maybe there is a key somewhere?"
With a shrug, Hans moves back to the original chamber.
"Since Right didn't work, let's try Left..."
Ting Tang
|
wroight left it is 'en
following Hans back to the original chamber. Ting goes to the left door and again, listens for any sound from the room, checks for traps and then, if everything is clear, use his lock picks to open the door.
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 to listen
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 to find traps
if possible he will take 20 on opening this door also
Alexos Virden
|
Alexos, after placing the strange feather in his bag, follows back to the main corridor.
Here, let me look at it too.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Not my best roll, but the bonus should be enough to figure out how it is locked... and possibly if I should be drawing my bow again.
Ting Tang
|
After Alexos looks at the door also ting, using his lock picks he, taking his time, carefully attempts to unlocks the door and opens it.
he takes 20 on disable devices to attempt to unlock and open the door
Sefu Sekala

Sefu draws his khopesh and steps behind Alexos, ready for whatever threats might be present.
Could someone move my token - have to post from my tablet this weekend.

A strange statue of a half-snake, half-human creature stands in a wide alcove to the south of two large stone doors. Comprising the lower body of a coiling serpent and the upper torso of a human woman, the statue has six wings and a disk containing a seven-pointed star in place of its head. Ist crossed arms hold a quill and whip, and the entire statue is covered in verdigris. The faint outline of strange runes can be made out beneath the patina coating the statue.
Alexos Virden
|
Wish I could take a roll on it, but per the rules a non-trained knowledge check of greater than 10 isn't capable of being attempted without access to something like a library... unless history would be able to answer whatever riddles this strange statue presents as equally.
Now that is an interesting statue. Give me a second to make a sketch of it.
While drawing the statue and runes, Alexos looks around.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Haha... reveal your secrets to me, room!
Alexos Virden
|
Thought you had Religion as a skill Felicitas... shouldn't you be able to attempt a roll?
Alexos spots the trap on the statue., as well as the feather token.
Hold on, nobody touch it! It is trapped with a spell... just like the ancient Thassilonians too, given it could be good or bad at random. My luck isn't the greatest with traps, though I have resisted them before. Still, could you take care of it for us, Ting?
Baerlie, would you be opposed to me trying to identify the statue using history?
Ting Tang
|
'Appy to ablige, Alexox, see'ins its magicy lets me take a minute ta remove 'is here pack and armor ting removes the pack, belt and kikko armor
making his disable device +9 for traps, so if I understand this right "If it fails by 4 or less, you have failed but can try again. If you fail by 5 or more, something goes wrong. If the device is a trap, you spring it" 20 or lower I spring it, 21-24 try again, 25+ bingo well here goes, I'm just going through it like that to make sure I understand correctly
After ting removes his armor he opens his thieves' tools and sets to work disableing the trap
disable device: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
o crap, that was probably my America lost role
GM Baerlie
|
Ting touches the statue while trying to disable the trap. You can see blue light between the statue and Ting's hands but he was lucky. The statue casts guidance on him. DC10 fort or will save to negate
weal or woe: 1d6 ⇒ 2
But there is still magic in the statue, everybody touching it will be blessed or cursed. The feather token is still in the statues hand.
| Standard Pregen |
"Well, it would appear that the statue actually wants to be 'de-trapped'. Why don't you take another crack at it, Ting-Tang?"
...and if that doesn't work, Hans will reach over and pluck the feather.
Also, don't forget the +1 from Guidance ;-)
Ting Tang

wroight
disable device: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
in case it still cast bless he will try it agoain
disable device: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
disable device: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
can he take the third role, or can Hans take the feather?
Alexos Virden
|
hm... first one triggers, good luck again... second one shouldn't... third one finally disables, making it look like you succeeded... assuming of course that you didn't take a woe on the first one that would knock down that roll.
GM Baerlie
|
Ting takes a second attempt to disable the trap. He does not succeed an touches the statue once more. The statue casts resistance on Ting. The fourth attempt is succesfull and Ting grabs the feather token (whip).
weal or woe: 1d6 ⇒ 4
you are lucky with this
There are two large stone doors in the west wall of the room.
Ting Tang
|
Ting takes a few minutes to rearm his armor, buckler, swordbelt and rucksack, as he gets his gear back on he can't help but feel especially lucky as he checks his sword and chakrams
I don't know if it was "dice rolling" luck or "GM doesn't want the newby ranger dead luck" either way ting and I will not take it for granted :-)
'Ay blokes is 'ese doors like 'em other ones? o ya... do's any o' ya sods want is 'ere whipy feathery thingy? I's gots plent o' me own feathers, and I's like shinies mores, I'll be waiten fer 'em, wroight
