Morngrim runs in, sliding to a halt in front of the giant insect, his axe swinging in an arc only aided by his momentum. The heavy blade splits the chitin, erupting in splatter of ichor!

Ralklain moves up and draws a bead on the ant that the dwarf wounded, but his bolt flies wide!

Kuaizi skips up next to Morngrim twirling his staff, weaving a defensive wall around himself, and strikes down hard on the head of the creature! It looks severely wounded after the two hits from the Pathfinders, but it still stands!

Ant 2 chitters and attempts to bite at Morngrim! Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 The dwarf's armor holds under its powerful mandibles!

I think you've mistaken the Ant's initiative... Anyway, the northernmost ant will not die with Holman's blow, so I'll post my next actions.

After the last Ant have acted:

Holman bounds around the giant ant, and slides his blade between its chitinous plates!

Shandor points a finger at the ant facing Kuaizi and Morngrim, blasting it with a beam of hoary frost!

Ryskovich scrambles into a favorable position in the room! Almost as if in response, Ant 2 For real, this time. :p snaps at Morngrim! Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 The dwarf's armor buckles under the powerful mandibles of the creature, but the effort is more than the giant ant can sustain as its strength fades!

Exitium continues his assault shredding the remaining ant, finishing it off!

It puts the lotion on its skin... >.<

You spend almost a half-hour applying the lotion to the walls of the tunnel. As you get closer the bottom of the jug, the chittering and clicking echoing through the tunnel begins to abate.

The foul smelling gunk applied, you emerge to relieved employees of House Cartahegn. Novaria is almost beaming with delight, her Chelaxian demeanor crumbling away. She gratefully negotiates you a tremendous discount allowing you to easily fill your entire order with some money to spare, while also lending some credibility to your pretense of being merchants and mercenaries.

If Morngrim is going to be healed, make note of resources used.

You make your way north out of the Vanji River basin and into the Terwa Uplands. If anything, the blistering heat of the Garund plains grows more intense away from the coast. The trade routes cut through winding switchbacks, avoiding the marshiest ground and occasionally crossing a shallow river gorge.

As the caravan crests a hill on the edge of a large river gorge, sudden activity silences the ambient jungle noise. Armed guards pile out of the foliage. An ebon-skinned woman strides out alongside them, brushing back her tresses and grinning from ear to ear. “Let’s not mince words, Pathfinders. Give me the key you carry, and I shall let you continue on your way. Refuse, and my men will toss you in the river and you can swim to your destination.”

The woman is dressed in a rugged explorer's outfit, with all sorts of cuts to accentuate her womanly curves, but no apparent armor.

In the blink of an eye, the two halflings swarm the Aspis Consortium guard and drop him with a pair of well-placed stabs!

Already stating my action since I'm right after Ralklain. Shandor readies a Magic Missile to go off whenever the woman tries to cast a spell or otherwise attempt an offensive action. The goal is, of course, to disrupt any spellcasting she might do.

The crowish monk readies a smack with his staff as he takes a defensive stance. "Caw! Surrender now! Give up your lives of villainy! Expunge your bad karma! And we will... might... possibly?... spare your lives?!" His tone trails off in confidence towards the latter half of his sentence as he recalls to mind other recent encounters with this group...

[std act] Ready Action - Attack Defensively, triggered if guard tries to do anything but surrender.

You can simply apply that magic missile to an unhurt Aspis guard such as #1. Or do you need me to reroll the damage?

Shandor points a finger at the guard before them, sending three silvery bolts that slam into him at center mast! The man is blown off his feet landing in a crumpled heap.

Kuaizi, moves past the remaining guard with flourish, but the man doesn't even have time to raise his weapon! After the chance to surrender is given, the guard looks at the ferocity that his allies were dropped, deciding that he would rather have a fighting chance!

When it becomes clear that he is not going to give up, Kuaizi delivers a careful blow, but it lands ineffectual against the armor of the Aspis' man.

Raising his curved blade, the Aspis guard steps away from Holman, taking a swing at Kuaizi! Scimitar: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 The tengu monk deftly turns the blow aside with his staff!

Morgrim intones the Litany of Sloth as he begins to move towards the remaining foe, then draws his axe as he skids to a stop between his fellow Pathfinders, attempting to bury the axe in the man's side. Mechanically, Litany of Sloth (swift action), move and draw (move action), attack (standard). The poor sap we are fighting cannot take AoOs for the next round.

The remaining guard doubles over as Morngrim buries his axe in the man's side!

END COMBAT!

As you stand looking over your handywork, you see a lizard scurry to the woman, and stands upon her body hissing at you. It is then that you realize that she is still barely conscious, ragged breaths starting to become weaker... As the first of you approach, she uses her last effort to speak while smiling softly. “Travel safely, Pathfinders, but travel swiftly,” she says. “I’m far from the only Consortium vulture looking to pick your bones today.”

She attempts to look back toward the road to Bloodcove, where in the distance birds and chattering monkeys scatter from the canopy as if frightened by a large force moving in this direction and, at best, two hours away. With that, she lies her head back on the ground, whispering to the lizard that almost looks like it is trying to comfort her.

Heal DC 10:
She is stable and will likely survive, but the others are bleeding out.

Weary and mere hours ahead of the Aspis Consortium’s own force sent to overtake you on your way to the Azlant Ridge excavation. Combat against such odds all but guarantees death, and the only tentative safety available to you lies inside the protective walls of the fortified expedition camp 2 days’ journey away.
