Yay me!!

"There is still something seriously wrong with the giant. He is moving wrong and his eyes are glazed. I wonder if he is a zombie? Or maybe possessed? Something like that?"

R’rrr ar’kkk studies the giant first with his right eye, then with his left. "It may be that he has not had enough time to recover from the whispers of the Midnight King; or it may be that he never will." Can such a foe be defeated through force? Could we manage to lure him into the well with our magics? "Either way, we would seem to have time to plan." The sorcerer retreats out of rock-throwing and eavesdropping distance before continuing.

"If he does not recover, how might we defeat him? I have offensive magics with which I can blast him, but fear they are not potent enough to slay him in one encounter. How to lure him to the well, and how to topple him in? If we managed that, I could finish him off with my magic if he does not perish from the fall. Or should we strike and retreat into the forest, then return on the morrow to try and finish him off?"

The giant is still glaring at you, muttering under his breath, but you're far enough up right now that he apparently doesn't think it's worth it to throw another chunk of tree at you.

"Lets see if we can lure him into the well. I can probably damage him enough to annoy me and chase me for a little bit if we can can come up with some kind of trap. Maybe we could build a really big tripping line (big enough to trip him) so if he trips he goes into the well?

Can anybody cast an illusion or anything?"

CAMPAIGN COMPLETED | Corvid of Destiny | Level 2 Sorcerer | HP 13/13 | AC 14 (T 14, FF 12) CMD 11 | F +1, R +4, W +5 | Perception +3 | 5/5 1st lvl spells | Touch of Destiny 5/6

"I can spit incantations at him from afar, forty yards as we fly; it may be safer than having you get close. Alternatively, I have an elixir that will turn one invisible for several minutes as long as they do not directly harm another living thing; so veiled, one of us might whisper or taunt him over to the well.

"Perhaps the giant has a rope in his hut or by the well that we could use for your plan."

Female awakened raven bard 2 | HP 15/15

"If you can get him over to the well and pretend to fly down I could cast ghost sound to make is sound like there's a whole flock of ravens down there. Or if that doesn't work, I could imitate the whispers speaking unintelligibly. Once he's by the well we would have to find some way to overbalance him." C'a'rrrar'kkk cocks her head consideringly at the giant, "I could cast sleep but I don't know if it would work on so mighty a creature"

You don't think sleep would work on him.

Just a quick question... who ended up with the Nymph's gifts from earlier?

I think that I have the blinding cloth

"What of the acorn - we might lure him with that..."

I totally forgot about that acorn the dryad gave us. One of us could use it to turn into a tree on the lip of the well, which would probably lure the giant over if others called his attention to it. The tree-crow could ready an action to dismiss the effect just as he swings his axe, which might help us in unbalancing him... though said bird would also stand a chance at taking a mighty whack from him. Maybe if folks with ranged attacks readied to hit him while he's over-extended, or if we dropped the blind-cloth on him right then, we might topple him in?

"Never mind luring him, if we got him over the well, I sneak in and go into his clothing. Turn into a tree. We both fall to our deaths in the well.

Hmm. I think that plan needs work :-)"

Male Shapeshifting Griffon RoW maps Technomancer 20 | LP Maps

Now you're thinking. :)

"Does anybody have any ideas how to get the tree to expand while not dying ourselves?"

Hmm, I just looked at Feather Token and it does NOT say that you have to be touching the item. Is it possible to slip the token into the giants pocket and then call the command word out from a little distance (the further the better, obviously :-)) ?

Male Shapeshifting Griffon RoW maps Technomancer 20 | LP Maps

[ooc]Note that the acorn is not a tree feather token--you swallow it and it turns you into a tree as tree shape

You're quite right :-). Ok, so what is the chance of a tree surviving the fall from the top of the well to the bottom of the well?

For some bizarre reason, they didn't answer that question in the spell description :-) :-) :-).

Male Shapeshifting Griffon RoW maps Technomancer 20 | LP Maps

If it turned into a raven halfway down... fairly good. As long as it's not under a giant.

Female awakened raven bard 2 | HP 15/15

Would the acorn activate if we stuck it into the giants ear? Or up his nose? Just askin'

While I love the idea, the tree shape spell itself doesn't force you to turn into a tree per se, it 'allows' you to turn into a tree. Even if the item forces him into tree form, he'll be able to dismiss it on his turn as a free action. This could still buy us a free round of attacks, though, which if done in sequence with the blinding item and hideous laughter might give us enough rounds of advantage for us to take him down with sneak attacks and magic missiles.

Male Shapeshifting Griffon RoW maps Technomancer 20 | LP Maps

And unfortunately, it does have to be swallowed. He has a rather large mouth, though... ;)

Damn, I HATE it when a post gets lost. Trying again

"I think that I have an idea that may actually work. We lure the giant very close to the well. Then, one of us (and since its my idea I guess I'll volunteer) comes flying at him hard from behind, turning into a tree at the last moment.

The tree hits the giant, the giant falls into the well, I turn back into a raven and fly away.

What could possibly go wrong?"

Mechanically, would that work? Strictly speaking one can't turn into a tree in the middle of movement and flying creatures don't have momentum but it seems like it definitely SHOULD have a quite good chance of knocking the giant into the well. And a reasonable (albeit probably only way from certain) chance of the raven turning back into a raven before hitting the botto,

Male Shapeshifting Griffon RoW maps Technomancer 20 | LP Maps

My impression of the Tree Shape spell is that it assumes you're going to be rooted to the ground. XD If I might suggest an alternative, you could land underneath him and 'sprout' up under him... Then we wouldn't have to deal with how conservation of momentum does or doesn't interact with suddenly multiplying your mass by a thousand.

Female awakened raven bard 2 | HP 15/15

"I'm pretty sure I can get him over to the well if someone is willing to go all tree shaped under his butt."

I have the best chance of sneaking close enough to him witgout being noticed. I'm willing to try"

Female awakened raven bard 2 | HP 15/15

"All right then, here goes nothing. This is going to make an epic ballad...if it works!

I'll swoop down and cast ghost sound down inside the fountain making it sound like an unkindness of ravens is down there harassing a hawk. Hopefully the giant will go over and take a look down.

The son of T’r’k meets the eyes of his companions with both of his own. "May our destinies be joined in victory." He then hides himself behind the lip of the well on the far side, ready to assist if the giant fails to fall.

S'kkk'aaa'rrrk hides herself somewhere near to the well, where the Giant will hopefully come to look at the illusion.

stealth: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (8) + 19 = 27

Male Shapeshifting Griffon RoW maps Technomancer 20 | LP Maps

At first, the giant doesn't seem to notice anything, but as C'a'rrrar'kkk makes her spell as loud as possible, he stops suddenly between chops and turns around.

Muttering something under his breath about the wrong noises, he stomps over towards the well and casts a glance down it.

I hope this works, I hope this works, I hope this works

S'kkk'aaa'rrrk will, very slowly and very carefully, sneak over so she is positioned under the giant. She will then "go all tree shaped under his butt." I can't improve on that wording :-)

What could possibly go wrong? :-)

I'm sure that you'll have to roll something or other but I haven't a clue what :-)

Male Shapeshifting Griffon RoW maps Technomancer 20 | LP Maps

Well, I think it's the giant that needs to make some rolls... and unfortunately I don't have his stats at this moment, so it'll have to be this evening.

Male Shapeshifting Griffon RoW maps Technomancer 20 | LP Maps

Apologies, yesterday evening was busier than anticipated

The giant shouts in surprise as a tree suddenly sprouts up under him.

Reflex save vs. DC 17: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

Wow, close. XD

Almost, he manages to catch himself... but only almost. He tumbles forward, over the lip of the well, one huge hand grasping at the stones... but his grip is not strong enough to support his weight, and soon he slips, his frantic attempts to slow his descent only serving to batter and bruise him.

He lands head-first with a sickening crack, and suddenly, all is still.

"Woo hoo!!!!!! It worked !!!! I mean, I always knew it would work."

"Well, hopefully he is either dead or we've knocked the sense back into him. I guess we should check"

Female awakened raven bard 2 | HP 15/15

"But now we have another problem...a talking tree! Good thing it knows how to speak raven :-)"

CAMPAIGN COMPLETED | Corvid of Destiny | Level 2 Sorcerer | HP 13/13 | AC 14 (T 14, FF 12) CMD 11 | F +1, R +4, W +5 | Perception +3 | 5/5 1st lvl spells | Touch of Destiny 5/6

R’rrr ar’kkk hops onto the well and peers down, summoning his dancing lights to illuminate the bottom. It certainly looks dead. There may be a way to be sure...

The sorcerer calls a spell to mind, and attempts to spit a magic missile at the fallen giant.

I believe that if the giant is dead it cannot be targeted with a magic missile, while if it's merely unconscious maybe 1d4+1 will finish it off :)

Male Shapeshifting Griffon RoW maps Technomancer 20 | LP Maps

Before you waste a spell...

R'rrr ar'kkk's lights reveal a grisly sight--the giant quite clearly landed on his head, and his skull had not survived intact. Neither had his brain, by all appearances.

"I can't help but feel that the giant might have been victim as much as villain. I'm a little bit sorry that we couldn't find a way to save him.

We deserve a reward after all that. Four of us, two eyes. I call dibs on the left half of the left eye! And we should bring back lots of food to the Unkindness"

Hey, we ARE Carrion Eaters, after all :-)

CAMPAIGN COMPLETED | Corvid of Destiny | Level 2 Sorcerer | HP 13/13 | AC 14 (T 14, FF 12) CMD 11 | F +1, R +4, W +5 | Perception +3 | 5/5 1st lvl spells | Touch of Destiny 5/6

We have succeeded. R’rrr ar’kkk allows himself to feel some small sense of accomplishment.

"Indeed, S'kkk'aaa'rrrk; sad that this creature was led to such a dark fate." Better him than us, though - thankfully my sight was able to steer us away from our doom and towards our destiny, though it meant condemning the giant to such an ignoble end. 'Twas not us that set him upon his path, however; 'twas this Midnight King that twisted his fate so.

He glides down the well to join in their much-deserved heroes' feast. "I eat only of right eyes."

And now the sun is beginning to rise,
It's like looking down on Paradise,
There's a ball of fire that's burning, giving life,
And we are flying home,
I feel the freedom in my soul,
Flying home at last;
Flying home,
I've got the freedom in my soul,
And it's four in the morning,
My world is calling,
Speeding through the universe tonight...

By the way (in case anyone thought I had talent) all the songs I quoted were by Chris de Burg

They're still cool and add a lot. I like them even if you have no talent :-) :-)

Well no talent for writing songs, I'm great at plagerizing :-)
