Hello my name is Hadassa and I would like to GM...
Legacy of Fire, Book 1
...with recruitment open till Wednesday
My style? Well, I'm NOT a rules lawyer. I do bring R rated themes to the table at times. I like atmosphere, and players who are not afraid to post and who get creative. By creative I mean a "standard action" to them is more than 1d20+9 and a damage roll:) I like RPGing much better than combat. Although we will have plenty of Combat;)
My goal for the game is to meet new people and have fun, no more or less.
How to apply? It would go a long way if you would link to your favorite pbp GM and tell me why you liked their game so much. Or if you are new to the boards, tell me what you like about Pathfinder. That will tell me alot about you. How does this sound?
Final note: I might change my avatar, so don't fall in love with her, lol!

Bahram the rogue |

well I could throw this character in the ring. may need to be tweaked of course but I would rather concentrate on the story. for now.
well my favorite PbP GM besides myself, right now is a tie between:
and Dm choon
I also play in: this game, which is a lot of fun
anyway about my guy...the stuff is in the profile so take a look and rip him apart.

![]() |

Wouldn't mind giving this a go, would be my first PbP.
Would be an iteration of this character tweaked to fit your creation rules.
Like I'm said I'm new to PbP so I don't have any experience with prior GMs; but I can say that what I like most about Pathfinder itself is seeing how my characters change.
How they are when they start out, and seeing how or if their viewpoints, motivations and ideals change as they experience more of the world around them. And equally so how they shape said world and their party by their presence.

Avenka Thalma. |

Hi there ! I'm new to pathfinder and plan to GM Rise of the runelords in june with my gang to make them discover thi great game ! I play home-made games since mid-90s, and believe it or not, it will be my first real-game experience since those days when we played d&d 2nd ed.
I really like role play, it's the heart of the game IMO, and my best games were always those in which we were not just throwing dices.
I would really like to be a part of this play-by-post game, it would also be a first for me.

Khayal Bin Haleen |

I would like to a part of this adventure. Khayal is a dual wielding kukri fighter. Solemn and laconic, he judges people by their actions not their words. He lives by a code of honor and his word is his bond.
My favorite PbP DM is IAMMARS http://paizo.com/campaigns/IammarsWeaponInTheRiftTable2PBPGameday2 I enjoy his games due to character interactions, particularly the first couple pages of that scenario.

Caleb Derekson |

Yes please! I'm submitting Caleb Derkeson, a Fighter with the {Two-Handed} archetype.
I'm "new" to the boards in that I've only started seriously getting into PBP in March/April, but IRL, I'm the president of my school's RPG club. I've been playing D&D for...eh, seven years on tabletops and school desks. Since I'm president, I have to GM most of the IRL games too, so I decided to try the messageboards to see if I could squeeze a PC into a campaign.
The only other PBP my other alias' are in are a "Sword Art Online"-esque campaign and as the Game Master to Rise of the Runelords and Curse of the Crimson Throne, so needless to say, I'm suffering from "GM Syndrome". I haven't PC'd in anything for the longest time, both on site and IRL...sob...
I will finish adjusting Caleb's stats for this campaign by the end of today (Eastern Standard Time). It shouldn't be too hard to go from a 20 pt. buy to a 15 pt. buy.
Having been born and raised in Cheliax, Caleb was exposed to all manner of debauchery and decadence from the noble families his lord associates with. He is disgusted by wanton excess, and strictly moderates his intake of good food and wine, not to mention women, for Cecelia Bremley is the only girl he will ever want to spend the rest of his life with.
Headstrong and resolved, he thinks with his heart before his brain catches up with his actions (most of the time), but that hasn't stopped him from championing the downtrodden and fighting for a just cause.
An Axe to Grind: What better weapon for his strength?
Berserk Button: Rapists, Serial Killers, etc.
Big F*cking Sword: While it isn't a sword, the axe Lord Bremley gave him speaks volumes for itself.
Blood Knight: His particular method of combat tends to leave large pools of blood and human viscera across the ground.
Don't You Dare Pity Me!: He's the kind of character who likes to "go it alone", and adamantly refuses help if brought to his knees.
Lightning Bruiser: Self-explanatory.
Rage Breaking Point: Just try to harm and/or kill a helpless woman in front of him. Note that this does not apply to villains that deserve it.
Screw The Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Self-explanatory.

Hadassa |

@Caleb - GM syndrome? You are preachin' to the choir! Paizo.com messageboards is a great place to get your fix though...
@Birch33 - I hope you go ahead and write up the backstory. I won't need the crunch to decide. I've actually followed a game or two you've GMed in the past. I know, sounds creepy, huh?
@Endoralis - Yeah, it's the Gnoll race I'm against for this particular go. Sorry.
@ZanThrax - Yes, the normal 2 triats. And Finding Haleen is NOT banned!
Class limit - Not really. Maybe homebrew play test classes, lol.

Anjali Nejem |

Hello! I'm new to the boards. This is likely my first post but I've been lurking for a while now. I'm definitely expressing my interest in this game.
Pathfinder is my current favorite RPG. I love the setting, particularly the desert nations: Qadira, Katapesh, and to an extent, Osirion. See why this particular adventure path caught my interest? Bring on the keffiyehs and the kahve. I'm in the mood for a desert adventure!
I love that you added that a standard action is more than just a d20 roll plus modifiers. I completely agree. I'm primarily a PbP player. I love writing and I feel as though you can express more of your character in a PbP game than on tabletop and get into the meatier parts of roleplaying. I'm not a min/maxer or an optimizer. I rather like getting to RP the shortcomings of my character as well as her strengths.
If I did everything right, then hopefully the Anjali avatar will show up. I'm working on her right now. Probably a class that can heal in some fashion. An Oracle of Life maybe if you allow oracles. Either human or half elf as far as race goes.

Hadassa |

To Anjali: we sound like kindered spirits! I am glad you took the leap and posted on this thread.
To Brahman: this is something funny - when I first started posting on Paizo a few years back you were brand new too. Now you have like 14,000 posts and I only have 2300! Well, my only comment would be think about picking a non-cartoon avatar? The avatars everyone picks set mood in pbp games. Mabye I'm too picky!

Northlander |

Thanks for notifying about this Hadassa. I've been poring over the Pathfinder rules last night but I'm still newbie to them even if I'm very well versed in the d20 system itself. I'm buying the herolab ruleset for them as I write this (huzzah for multitasking) but it might take a while for me to cook up something good.
I'd be interested in applying but there might be a slight issue here. Our timezones are almost the complete opposites. For example my 6 pm is your 7 am. :)
If that's not an issue I'm thinking of a Human or more likely Half-Elf Sorcerer. Probably leanings towards smart-mouthed illusionist with tendency to annoy people with this tricks but this depends on the setting!
Speaking of the setting. I'd like to know the premise. I'm afraid I don't know much about legacy of fire. I checked the intro which states it is initially about retaking a village overrun by gnolls. However it later changes to more adventurous theme even heading to the planes. I need to think about proper character theme and motivation for long term adventure.
Basically what is our role and relation to the situation? Who is backing us or is this a random decision by a group of adventurers? Are we already allies? Relatives? Potential lovers? Hired guards? Adventurers? Representatives/hirelings for the pactmasters? A mix of criminals buying their freedom by agreeing on some dangerous task and their overseers? Will the interactions with the gnoll to be diplomatic, kill on sight, other?
I'd rather tailor my character to what is required than introduce something that does not fit. However even before that I'd like to know if the timezone is an issue. :)

![]() |

I have been really interested in checking this one out and I am currently only playing in one other game. I will see about getting a character together tonight.
In the meantime my favorite PbP GM is GM Tektite. He does a great job keeping with the story but also setting a solid pace for the games.

Hadassa |

Northlander, all the Pathfinder Adventure Paths come with a Player's Guide to help you answer exactly these questions and tailor your character. They even have "traits" in them of which you can pick 2 and help tie your character to the setting.
But the short answer: Long ago, two warring armies of genies fought on the slopes of Pale Mountain, and the world shook under the power of their wishcraft. Today, the armies are wakening, and one potent efreeti warlord is ready to pick up where he left off! This outrageous, inventive campaign takes the heroes to all corners of the desert land of Katapesh and beyond, with journeys to strange demi-planes and even the fabled City of Brass!

Avenka Thalma. |

About my character : Avenka is a human barbarian, she travels a lot and hopes to become the chieftain of her tribe, but she must first be a part of a group and face challenges / gain experience.
If you need more details let me know... Like I said, I'm new to the boards so I don't really know how all this works... Do you want a full character with stats, feats and skills before you take a decision ?

Hadassa |

To Caleb, No you don't, as long as your character ties in to this:
Before play begins in earnest, tell the players that their characters have been traveling together for more than a week on a dreary camel caravan from the town of Solku to an unknown location in the northern scrublands of Katapesh. The man who hired them is Garavel, the no-nonsense major-domo of a merchant princess awaiting them at their destination. In the distant haze to the west, the PCs can just make out the immense outline of Pale Mountain looming over the mid-evening horizon like a tombstone...

Northlander |

Consider it formatted now. :)
Would a character like this be acceptable?
Intro: Dhavyndor Barr only recently arrived in the grand city of Katapesh from Taldor in search of what he believes to be his true heritage. He has always felt the restless whisper of flames in his blood. A call to meet his Efreeti ancestors - as it surely must be - for no mere elemental could be responsible for a power like his! A call that would lead him to board a ship to the land of his ancestors.
The trip on the Dancing Nereid had tested both his patience and his stomach but it was finally over. He was on solid ground again. Free from the capricious grip of waves! Yet now another problem loomed in the horizon.
The journey had been more expensive than expected rendering him nearly broke and while he hates to admit it Katapesh has proved to be more than a bit overwhelming. Even for someone used to the splendor of the Gilded City. A solution to both issues has to be found.
---------
Desc: Dhavyn is a rather handsome man with short hair, dark eyes, strong eyebrows and bronze-toned skin. His normally neatly trimmed beard has lately gotten a bit on the scruffy side. He wears well-made, if not outright luxurious, embroidered tunic and pants in the colors of red and gold. Like his general appearance the clothes have seen better days. He wears a necklace and two earrings apparently made of gold and inset with what look to be rubies. He is around 180 cm (~5'11") tall with lean if not particularly powerful build.
---------
Additional notes: Dhavyn is planned as an efreeti blood sorcerer but he could as easily be fire elemental blood sorcerer. The efreeti/elemental heritage is there to provide motivation as is his currently poor status.
He is likely to join the campaign to earn money and the heritage keeps him going on once connections to the city of brass and elements reveal themselves. I picked fire as the element as it makes most sense rp wise even if it doesn't make most sense gamist wise. It could be easily altered to Djinni blood if people prefer that.
I wrote him as new to city since I'm new to campaign as well. It allows me to ask questions. Finally I like the idea of a character who clings to lost "noble heritage" in more ways than one.
Appearances are important to him because that's the way how he was raised. He is somewhat... ahem... egoistical but since he is actually in truth from rather poor (if noble) family he is not quite as dickish as some Taldans can be.
As a bonus his family pretty much kicked him out after he chose to chase his "heritage" and not follow their plans for arranged marriage. His pride doesn't allow him to turn back either. There's more than that to the character but it's even less relevant to the campaign. Portrait is pending approval from the artist.

Anjali, yes, just link to Myth Weavers is fine. If you WANT to make a nice formatted stat block in your character profile I can PM you a template. Also, if you don't already know, I'll show you how to make your major stats appear under your name when you post on the gameplay thread for quick refrence: put them in the RACE field of your alias' profile.
Northlander, everything looks fine. Still thinking about how time zones will affect us. Did you know you can format your posts? Look down below the box where you type and find this "How to format your text". Click that button. You can do things like

Northlander |

I would if I could. I am unable to pick an avatar either for my alias or for my primary account. That has been the case for entire day and since the forum does not seem to support custom avatars. I get the images but selecting one does nothing. There's also no separate save button or it's damn well hidden.
Maybe there's a posting requirement or something but could not find it from FAQ? Not sure what to do. :)
I will pick an avatar once I am able and get a separate portrait too for accuracy.

dotting, I have played other games, but I'd rather say what I like about Pathfinder.
Pathfinder is a game that gives lots of opportunities to roleplay. The feats and traits that you can pick are descriptive enough that you can use what you picked to help you roleplay and guide your character. If you choose reactionary trait for example, it says you were bullied, which gives me a guide to roleplay off of. Pathfinder has various skills, so if you put points into many knowledge skills, it gives me the idea to roleplay a smart and geeky character. Some classes have strict alignments, but I like them as guides, if you are a Paladin, it helps you roleplay, it's simple, roleplay a lawful good character. All the pathfinder material has a lot of fluff to it and it can help you roleplay your character, therefore you are not trying to roleplay a character from scratch, you pick stuff which can give you guidelines as to how to roleplay your character.
Pathfinder has a lot of combat to it, but it is not a video game, nor is it real life or even action, but it gives you the best of all worlds, a little video game here, a little acting there, a little creativity over there.
I enjoy Pathfinder more than I do any D&D game because it gives lots of opportunities/guidelines to roleplay, has many more options as to what you can pick from. If I absolutely had to play a D&D game instead of pathfinder, I prefer the 3.5 version as it is the closest thing to Pathfinder. I've played D&D Next and I did not enjoy it that much, because it does not give descriptions of the classes just abilities, the races only have a limited amount of info on them as roleplay wise, and Next makes it too easy to invite powergamers into the game.
Why do I dislike D&D Next so much...
Paladins can be any alignment.
Druids are no longer forbidden to wear metal, which means a multi-class Druid can wear Plate Mail
No arcane spell failure chance from armor
Instead of skill ranks, you simple check off a skill if you are proficient in it and you add something called a proficiency bonus which is the same for all skills and there are only 18 skills making the game oversimplified.
There is no BAB in Next, instead you add your proficiency bonus and your str to hit for melee weapons and proficiency bonus does go up as you level, but it is the same for all classes, ie. an 14 str wizard that uses a melee weapon he is proficient with has the same chance to hit an enemy if a 14 str fighter uses that same melee weapon even if they were level 20, which is BS.
The list goes on and on.
Pathfinder gives you many options and many powers, but it is also roleplay and not overpowered like D&D Next is. I have played 3.5 D&D and it isn't that much different from Pathfinder and it is the only D&D game I'll play, both have lots of things you can do with your character giving you a chance to roleplay and with many skills to guide you.
You aren't going to be climbing Mount Everest with a climb of 2, but try to climb it with a climb of 15, yeah, maybe.

Born to a pair of elves on a lone pesh farm, it was only natural that Idalis would learn the trade. Yet his life did not go down the normal road one would think. He was raised well and grew intelligent in his craft of pesh farming and harvesting. It was a simple life but a dangerous one as well, for many years his parents drove away the gnolls with their arrows and alchemist fire. That was until one night when the gnolls came in force like never before, showing more organization and courage then before. Idalis was taken as a slave while his parents fell before submitting. Idalis would have led a life of slavery if not for Haleen, a swordswoman who attacked the gnolls in turn. Sense then she has taken care of him, helping him to get an apprenticeship with a pesh refiner and alchemist. Something he both knew and would discover a telent for. Growing proficient enough to strike up his own business. Things changed when Haleen disappeared, he quickly found all that he built and learned to be empty. It was worthless to him compared to the fate of his friend and last bit of family.
A bit of backstory. May polish up and/or add. ; )

Submitting Manar.
I like pathfinder because you get a feat every 2 levels and the world of Golarion is pretty freaking flavorful. The source material has SO much going on you can make any kind of character and tie them back to the world in a unique way.
This guy has been my favorite GM so far but the game was short lived, probably because of the commitment it took to write that much. I don't expect you to ask for that much but I'm a fan of narrative.
I'll fill out the crunch with items and such if I get selected, but its most likely going to be a scimitar, chain shirt, and a few nicknacks here and there.
Manar and her twin brother Saif were born to a paladin enlisted in the Halo of Blades, an organization founded to protect travelers on the continent. Their father, believing they were gifts from the Dawnflower for his loyalty to both her and his cause, named them Saif and Manar al-Fajr, meaning Sword and Guiding Light of Dawn respectively. Their naming proved ironic however. While fiery Manar manifested her divine heritage physically — having been born with wild red hair and bronzed skin that betrayed her Kellish origins, Saif's manifested spiritually. He was always devout, always looking for the good in others, and always striving to be as the Dawnflower intended him to be. Though this often put him at odds with Manar, who’s merciful hand was quick to be replaced with an even more “merciful” fist, they always felt that they were two halves of the same whole. When he brought the light, she brought the heat.
Their father, however, kept to their names and pushed them toward goals that all but conflicted with their personalities. While Saif was trained to be a paladin and knight of Sarenrae, Manar stayed close to the clerics and bards in the local temples they visited, treading a path focused more on magic than swordplay. Despite this she, like all of Sarenrae’s faithful, learned to use her dance and faith not only as a tool to help the unfortunate, but as a mighty weapon to smite those unworthy of her goddess’ mercy.
As the two grew older their paths began to diverge from that of their father's. While the wanderlust was still strong in both of them, and the Blades was as good an organization as any to help satiate it, each felt it was time to strike out on their own. Saif chose to join the Pathfinders, finding the idea of uncovering Golarion's secrets in the name of their homeland, Qadira, romantic. Manar unfortunately did not share his views on the Pathfinders, the organization being more cavalier than she was comfortable with, but agreed to help him prepare for her new life. The two of them broke with their father and his band of Blades in Katapesh, finding it a good place to settle down and find work. They took up odd jobs, participated in local adventures, and eventually raised enough money for Saif’s departure.
Manar decided to take up work as a missionary, joining a group of Sarenrae worshippers who were keenly interested in revitalizing the temple in a recently repopulated city, Kelmarane. In that mission she found herself entertaining would be patrons and providing comfort where it was needed. Though this never evolved into outright prostitution on her part, she became well known for having a silver tongue that could align the lust in men’s hearts with the faith in hers. With a well placed compliment here or a fluttering eyebrow there she became invaluable to the church’s goal of reestablishing itself in the settlement.

Hajar nar Jundi |

Hey Mayday, we played together in this very campaign with GM Dave the Dwarf last year. I'd like to submit Hajar for this one!
I'll fix his sheet tomorrow. But the character concept and everything would remain the same. Paladin of Sarenrae who is interested in finding his adopted sister Halleen and redeeming the poor souls of Kelmerane.
this has been my favorite GM, though he has disappeared as of late

Hadassa |

Hajar! I am sorry to bow out of those games last year. I had to write a stupid book on corporate culture *bleakh*. Thank God that's done though!
I actually thought about PMing you for this game but got nervous: You know the rules better than anyone I've met:) But that's actually great if I just keep my learning hat on so...let's tackle Legacy again! Can Hajar be altered to 15pt buy? It's easier for me to balance encounters that way.
Ps. That GM you linked to had some great mood-making tricks I'm going to shamelessly steal. Thank you!
I'd like to make some early selections here, in no particular order:
Recruitment still very open! Then we will move to discussion thread to flesh out the party.
