Wow... the dice really hate us, don't they. Well, I was going to fireball again, but that isn't going to work very well with how everyone is. Which is fine.
Ethan yells out in draconic, "Come and get me, you useless little whelp!" as he cast a magic missile at the umbral dragon.

The party generally proves ineffective at harming the larger dragon, who chuckles ominously. Only Ethan's missles harm the creature.

Ethan moves into the room, an back into the corner. As he moves up, he pulls out his wand of burning hands that the team has found.,
"Decide to surrender, yet, drakeling." he asks in common so that all can hear him. "I might even accept your surrender. We shall see, you are that far beneath me, after all, being that you are only a whelp, only a decendent of greatness, rather than someone like myself. "
"Now, I could use this wand to end this, now, but such an insignificant thing as yourself isn't worth wasting a charge upon. " He then casts a magic missile against the umbra dragon.

Without consulting the book, Ethan looks things over. "Ok, that makes sense. I think that our mission will require us to retrieve the remains here, since the Shizuran funeral tradition is to cremate the body on a pyre under the midday sun, then distribute the ashes to the deceased’s descendants. This has obviously not been done.
"In addition, the tradition of the crusaders of Lastwall is to cremate everything but the skull, engrave the crusader's name and dates of birth and death, and then display the skull in The Ossuaries of the Fallen in Vigil.
"Neither of these have been done for this person, so I am expecting that this would be our mission."
Ethan then searches the cairn carefully for any remains, packing them away as carefully as he can. "Crowe, can you carry all of this?"

"Ethan, help me there. Is the Shizuran to burn the body including the skull or excluding the skull? If it is the former we have a decision to make. I am in favor of following the Shizuran ritual, after all that is where the person seems to have come from."

![]() |

"It would be the Shizuran tradition to burn everything. But, if she were a crusader, she might have preferred to have her skull in the Ossuaries, and the rest of her ashes distributed.
"Also, since she died a long time ago, I don't know if we'd be able to find her relatives. Now, granted, she was an elf, so they may still be alive, but she was also from Tian Xa, so that makes it more difficult."
Ethan thinks a moment, and then continues. "Really, I think we should just bring it all back to Venture-Captain Compton... I mean, Besnik, and let him deal with it."

![]() |

Ethan just shrugs.

![]() |

"That's a fair point Nesterok. I also think that the Venture Captain expects us to deal with whatever we find here. We are full agents after all, not some bunch on their confirmation. Let's build a good pire and return the skull to the Ossuaries of the Fallen in Vigil."

![]() |

Sounds like we have at least two strong votes for a crusader funeral (Yarricki and Nesterok), with Ethan as an amibivalent yes. We'll go ahead with that, then.
Performing the funerary rites is relatively easy and you all feel a sense of profound ease when that is complete. With that resolved, there is little left to do here in Belkzen. Unless there's anything you wanted to explore more closely, in which case we can retcon that part.
Once you return to Vellumis, the Venture-Captain is thrilled to hear of your discoveries.
"“I knew you would triumph! Just goes to show I picked the right Pathfinders to seek out adventure while unknown dangers lurked. There could have been almost anything there! Go and rest while I put our report together for the Ten. Surely, this addition to the Chronicles will put Uscalin Lodge on the map.”
He mentions that after you left, he dispatched teams to several other locations detailed in the Tome, and that he intents to compile a full report for the Knights of Ozem. He is particularly impressed with the way you handled the crusader's body. He will take the skull, carefully placing it in a silk-lined box, promising to make sure the Knights receive it and perform the appropriate procedures from there.
"Though I may joke about the crusaders, they play a vital part in the service of good. You, too, have done important work today. You have removed a pressing danger and helped the spirit of an ancient hero find rest. Well done, Pathfinders. I hope you are as proud of yourselves as I am of you.”
Any final things you'd want to do?

Nesters show the weapon of the crusader and says to the Venture-Captain.
You also found her ancestral weapon. May be she still have family who will be happy to have back this heirloom. I've heard that in Tian-Xa a weapon is the honor of the warrior, may be it will help the Society to get in touch with the warrior descendant and make with this gift new ally ?

![]() |

On the way back, Ethan would have attempted to make whole on the weapon.

![]() |

sorry for my absence for the end of this.. I was a little overwhelmed with stuff. Faeran would have been in favor of a crusader's rites for the deceased, and very much in encouraging of Ethan casting make whole on the weapon before delivering it to the VC.
"I am agreed with Nester here... returning this to her family if they can be found, would be a fine gesture."

pregen Crowe |

Yep Crowe is another retro vote for the crusader funeral. And also for returning the crusader's weapon to her family

![]() |

I believe the make whole will turn out to be unsuccessful, though it is a nice gesture. As I understand it, you'd need to be CL 7 to fix a holy weapon, though to be honest I haven't really dealt with those rules before.
Besnik is impressed with your efforts and concern.
" I can write to Amara Li and our other leaders in the region, and see if they have contacts in Minkai or Jinin who might be able to track down a next of kin. I'm sure the Knights will be glad to help search for an heir as well. Might even give me a chance to reconnect with my librarian friend..." his voice drifts off as he breaks out in a smile.

If it is destroyed, you would be correct that you have to be CL * 2 on the items caster level. However, you said it was broken, so that, or mending, could work to fix it. Make whole would fix 5d6 hp on the item. A +1 one handed blade has 10 + 10hp. (10 base, 10 for the enhancement bonus). The holy enchantment doesn't add to the durability. An item is considered broken at half or more hp taken, destroyed at total hp taken. So, it would have taken, at most, 19hp. So, two castings of Make Whole, which Ethan could easily do in two days. See below for the make whole rolls.
FYI - this is just for information's sake. See the spell, and CRB Additional Rules for all the rules.
Make Whole #1: 5d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 5, 1, 2) = 15
Make Whole #2: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 4, 2, 6) = 22

![]() |

While it's not important mechanically, but just so I know for the future:
I was looking at the Conditions appendix of the CRB (p. 566):
Items with the broken condition, regardless of type, are worth 75% of their normal value. If the item is magical, it can only be repaired with a mending or make whole spell cast by a character with a caster level equal to or higher than the item’s. Items lose the broken condition if the spell restores the object to half its original hit points or higher.
The make whole spell adds that destroyed items need twice the CL of the item, but it looks like broken still requires being equal to the CL of the item. Holy requires CL 7.
That said, I might be overlooking other information somewhere else.
