Carr |
*Huff Huff* "I almost wish to crush his head also for dragging me into that spot, getting me winded, forcing me to run, and mussing up my shining armor. DO YOU REALIZE HOW LONG I WILL HAVE TO POLISH?" His rage is barely restrained, and that only when his grip finds the embedded mark of the open road on his blade.
GM Chyro |
Ting: unless you heal up Buri Buri-Ban, he won't be in any shape to do so. :)
"Oh, first you chase me, then you beat me, and now you want to kill me?
You foreigners are un-be-lie-vable...ugh."
Brallenera Thalkham |
Awww. listen. My comrade will heal you, fine? We didn't want to fight you. We just need to get the statues back. Something is wrong with the statues, but you didn't let us explain... you ran away. Why?
Brallenera gives SongBird her curing stick to heal Buri-Buri
GM Chyro |
"Have you taken a good look around in this city?
Muggers everywhere. Now, i bought this pretty looking statue. I hear later it's valuable, and i know about nobody in this place yet, so add 'valuable item' to 'people looking for you'...you get the picture, yes?"
Carr |
"You somehow expect that I, the vision of beauty and grace, am coming to MUG YOU? Oh I'm so angry I could spit. You have me sweating, and I... I... someone heal this thing so it leaves my sight before I sully my sword on its throat." Carr seems on the verge of hysterics.
Ting Tang |
'the shiny one does make a fuss.' Ting looks at Brallenera confused, stepping toward Buri Buri with his drawn sword, looking from Brallenera to Carr he asks. "Is we's gonna heal tha stature buyer 'er is we gonna whack 'I'm? Tha Mistress o' Mayhem wants ta heal 'im an' tha shiny smart feller wants ta off 'im. I's is ok either way, wrought." Ting winks at Joseph as he cocks his head and lulls his tongue in a tengu smile.
Anyone who has any points in sense motive or knowledge local would be able to see this is tings idea of a joke.
Lord Joseph Wraitheart |

"He caused us a lot of trouble for us. I suggest we cut the worm down." Joseph says with a dark smirk and a rapier out.
GM Chyro |
Buri Buri-Ban is starting to look uneasy, in addition to upset.
"I only run to save my hide in the 1st place, and you aim to kill anyway, while i have not done anything to you? You must really be proud of yourselves."
Ting Tang |
'Lets see what 'Mr. Shiny Butt' does now. Ting winks at Joseph, then, ruffling his feathers like he is offended says. "I's is always proud of meself, What's at gots ta do wit it?"
again, sense motive or local knowledge will reveal he is teasing, which is great fun for tengus ;)
GM Chyro |
Buri sighs in disbelief, how someone can't read the meaning.
Did you know, that someone once wrote that this mission meaninglessly seems to promote murder hobo'ing? I have no idea where that is coming from.... :)
Ting Tang |
Buri sighs in disbelief, how someone can't read the meaning.
Did you know, that someone once wrote that this mission meaninglessly seems to promote murder hobo'ing? I have no idea where that is coming from.... :)
that's funny, you could do it without almost any violence if you had a high diplomacy character that speaks up before anyone says "I draw my sword"...oh yeah, that was ting that did that....he wants to he high diplomacy but that low charisma keeps getting in the way, that and he's a murder hobo.
Brallenera Thalkham |
Awww. If I wanted to kill you, would I have use tha flat of my axe? Theses statues are dangerous, able to summon creatures. We fought giant scorpions and the biggest, nastiest centipedes you'll ever nightmare about. They nearly killed all of us, trained warriors. Imagine if these creatures appeared when you were alone at home, or worse in an innocent crowd? We want to put the statues in a safe place, so they won't cause any trouble.
So, we just potentially saved your life. We've seen one murder today, by the hands of one of Torch's bully, and I can understand you were afraid. He would stop to nothing to get the statues. We ask nicely, after a misunderstanding
Diplo?: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12
GM Chyro |
Buri Buri-Ban was uneasy after the beating, and Brallenera's tone isn't very convincing. However, her reasoning sounds fair enough.
"Take it, keep it, for all i care. I'm leaving this city, it is not for me.
Maybe it will not lure any people after you."
Ting Tang |
'Aw, we were just having a little fun, guess we have to get back to work now.' Ting stops smiling but with his head still cocked and standing on one foot he asks, "Where's ta now, wroight?"
Carr |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
"Heal him, let him go, but if I ever see you again, Buri Buri-Ban, know that I will cause such harm to you that the annals of history will strike your name from their record for fear of my reprisal." He glares down at Buri, then starts walking off. "Where is Saldin Marifi? And I swear if he runs or casts a spell I'm going to sever his head from his neck and place it on a pike. A PIKE!" Carr has clearly lost his cool over this one.
Ting Tang |
Ting turns to follow Carr, he walks beside Brallenera, lulling his tongue in a Tengu smile. Leaning down, bastard sword in his left talon resting on his shoulder and covering his beak with his right talon, he asks the dwarf; "Did pretty boy jus' say he was a gonna do harm ta Buri's annal by strikin' wit his record prize?"
Carr |
I will do such evil unto him that the world will forget his name for fear of what I might do in response.
Ting Tang |
I will do such evil unto him that the world will forget his name for fear of what I might do in response.
yeah, Tings not very bright, so I just go with it...
GM Chyro |
Where, as a follower of Shelyn, is the beauty in remodeling someone's face, after said yet-unmentioned-evil? :)
Carr |
The beauty is in the removal of such a being from the world, thereby making the world better for its loss. Also you look good while doing it.
GM Chyro |
Onwards, yee bravers of peril, to thine last statuette.
The last one, Marifi, is also in the secure market, as shared by Grandmaster Torch.
The Streets become slightly narrower, as you approach the part of the secure market where the more wealthy Merchants reside.
The entrance is watched by a set of muscular guards.
This section is known for having a policy of no weapons entry.
Only the guards and retainers of the Merchants who hold shop are allowed to.
Guard 1: "Good day, visitors. If you have business here, you are requested to hand over all weapons, which you will be given back, upon return."
You can each make a stealth check to try and hide your weapons. Anything you carry that is larger than a dagger gives a -2 penalty, each, however.
Carr |
Carr has no qualms about giving up his weapons. After all, in a worst case scenario he will simply grow them and tear out the enemy's throat. "Very well, but if you do not take the greatest care of this fine weapon, I shall be very cross with you." He hands over his Blade of the Open Road.
GM Chyro |
The appropriately armed city guard shakes his head slowly.
"It will be kept safe, and watch your tone.
Causing trouble for the city guard has consequences."
He opens a solid iron case, akin to a locker in a gym.
It has an iron lock on it.
GM Chyro |
Not meant as an obstacle. That's a solid deposit box he can keep your items in, while you are in there.
Ting Tang |
local: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0 so much for using the local knowledge to our advantage...is anyone else going to attempt to see what the local knowledge might be, in case we could use it to our advantage? Or are we just going to surrender our weapons without even thinking about how to get around it?
GM Chyro |
One stealth check, but any weapon larger than a dagger gives -2 penalty. So if you are looking to hide two weapons larger than a dagger, you'd get -4 penalty.
Brallenera Thalkham |
Awww, understand.
Brallenera doesn't even try to hide anything.
She gives the guard her axe, her heavy mace, the two throwing handaxes she wear on her belt, and the heavy crossbow strapped on her back.
Know Local: 1d20 ⇒ 9 Awww, so close..
Aww, SongBird, you'll have to do the talking.
Carr |
Know Local: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
"Actually, Brallanera, as you are my retainer and I am a well respected caravan owner and merchant, you are authorized to defend me and my goods. If you could hand my vassal her axe back, I should like her to be able to defend me in the event such becomes necessary." I do have the Caravan vanity, allowing me to use Diplomacy for my day job checks. "After all, surely you can not expect me to barter if I cannot be assured that my purchases will be safeguarded? We are seeking artifacts of the highest quality. Ting-Ting, show the nice guard the statue." Carr begins laying it on thick, speaking to the history of the article in question, and lauding how great it is.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
And I do have history +9 also, if I need to pretend this is some great historical treasure.
GM Chyro |
The guard shakes his head.
"Sorry, sir, that applies to the stall owners and their retainers only."
Ting Tang |
Ting smiling his tengu smile pulls the statue out of his bag holding it in one talon, waiving his other underneath it. doing his best imitation of Vanna White.
'Carr is sharper than he looks, it was a good try.' Shrugging his shoulders he returns the statue to his pack, walking up to the steel box "I fig'er 'at means I's is bloody well next, wroight?" He reaches into his hip pouch and withdraws his chakrams and places them in the box. then taking his shield off of his shoulder he drops it in. "Don't want ta bash anybodies by Mistake Wroight." Then reaching over his shoulder he draws his bastard sword and drops it in the box with a loud thud. He then removes his sawtooth saber from his other hip and drops it in. reaching behind his back on his belt he draws his voidglass kukri which he gently lays down, lulling his tongue in his Tengu smile. "Needs ta be careful wit 'at one, it's glass, wroight." Beginning to step away he turns, "Oh yeah's I almost forgot." from beside his thigh he removes the mitheral dagger and tosses it in the box also. Shrugging his shoulder he grasps his beak, wiggles it and then lets go shrugging his shoulders again. "I's can't leave, tha beak, they's reattached it wroight." As he begins to leave he quickly Turns back around and asks. "Do's I's get some kind o' bloody receipt?"
GM Chyro |
The other guard looks with a stern face.
"No receipt. We saw you give them off, we return them to nobody else. If you don't like it, you can remain here if you so choose."
GM Chyro |
After handing over your weapons, i assume Joseph does as well (roll for stealth if you don't), you are admitted entrance to the secure market.
A variety of exotic looking goods are on the display.
Beautiful sculptures, decoratives, and memoria.
"Come on people, don't be shy. The best you will find here!"
Wandering about a bit, you see ahead a sign, hanging from the top of a large stall.
[Marafi's wares]
A man is standing talking to what seems to be a buyer. A decorative painting is inspected, and after some talking, hands are shaken, and the buyer walks away with his newly acquired painting.
What are likely hired guards stand watch, overseeing the many patrons walking by.
Carr |
"Saldin Marifi, my good friend. I am looking for a statue you have recently acquired. It is a cursed relic and I am trying to acquire them for their safekeeping so they do not kill any more individuals." Carr approaches, all smiles and whatnot. He's being generally honest, trying to project the image of a concerned merchant who sold bad wares.
GM Chyro |
(Claps slowly)
Marafi, about to make a welcoming to Carr, is cut short at the straightforward message.
"I see. Suppose i indeed purchased a cursed idol, how would it cause me harm?"
Carr |
"It can, under certain circumstances, transform into large creatures which tend to try eating those around it. We were nearly felled when two other statues transformed and tried to eat us. My companions here barely survived. I of course was valiantly able to survive due to superior constitution, but... that's of little import. These statues can transform, and they can do great harm. We would like to ensure the safety of you and others." Carr tries to not let on with a bit of obfuscation.
GM Chyro |
"Right...i've heard that kind of self praise before."
4d100 ⇒ (9, 59, 9, 87) = 164
Two of his stall's guards hadn't been attention to gossip, but the commotion by startled people who were at the market during the centipede and scorpion attack, has reached ears of 1 of his guards, and Marafi as well.
"So that is what one of them can do?
While i have not witnessed it, i have heard enough prior to your arrival, to take your word for this. A pity, its craftmanship is particularly splendid."
He reaches into a bowl of spice, and pulls forth an iron statue of an eagle.
"Here. Business would be bad if this would turn into something as well."
Nice one Carr. Lying would get him to order an attack. Which would have been a joke in itself.
Carr |
"Oh yes, they are lovely, but great care must be taken. We plan to see them safely secured. Thank you for your cooperation." He nods politely and hands the other statue to Brallanera for safe keeping, as putting the two in close proximity might also be a bad idea.
Ting Tang |
Ting follows along quietly and nods his head as Carr explains the gods honest truth to the arrogant merchant. Watching the exchange carefully ready to pounce on one of the guards if they so much as flinch at his new friend Carr. As they head back to get their weapons he compliments his companion. "'At's tellin' em, gov'n'r. You's talks as good as Lordy Joey when he's a he, So what's we doin' now?"
GM Chyro |
The guard unlocks the safe box and gives you back your weapons.
As you wander in the nearby Streets, a young Messenger comes up to you, and hands you a letter.
"Message for you, miss, sirs."
To the Pathfinders,
News has reached my ears that certain people are currently without certain assets. You seem to be able in your job.
I hereby extend an invitation to have dinner at my inn.
<Address>
Grandmaster Torch
Sorry guys, reading back, the statues -summon- the monsters, they don't turn into them. Thus you have all 4 statues. :)
Brallenera Thalkham |
Awww, thank you for the message.
Brallenera gives one gold piece to the messenger. When he isn't within hearshot, she says to her comrades
Awww, let's go to the Captain, and deliver the goods.
Ting Tang |
After carefully selecting all of his gear back from the guards, ting toddles after Brallenera. Watching her accept the letter and tip the messenger, he peaks at the letter over her shoulder as she reads. Nodding his head in agreement, he follows after her, "I's follerin' you's Mistress, wroight."
GM Chyro |
And so the merry band heads back to base.
(Sound of front door)
An attendant checks if the Venture Captain is available, and confirms she is.
"Come in, come in."
She sits behind her desk, reviewing some documents.
"Welcome back. You have secured the statues?"
Ting Tang |
Ting nods his head as he lulls his tongue in his Tengu smile, setting down his pack, he begins to take out the three statues that he was carrying. Setting them on the Venture Captains desk, nodding his head toward Brallenera, "Tha Mistress o' Mayhem has tha floggin' other one, wroight"
Brallenera Thalkham |
Awww, yes, we have the statues. But we had some troubles with a man named Torch. He wanted the statues for himself, he killed the man we were supposed to meet in the baths before he talked to us, and Torch wanted to extort money or favors from us, in exchange of the names of the people who bought the statues. He's a man of no honor, so we don't have to honor our word to him.
Brallenera is still really angry at Torch
