Most of you see a lone woman dressed in black leather with a wide-brimmed hat stroll up to the town square. "How many of you are there... Seven?" She sniffs the air. "One combat animal as well... You should make fine pets."

As soon as she finishes speaking, the windows to the building with Faraz burst and two creatures burst in through the windows. One quickly circles around Faraz and the other stands in the doorway.

Another pair of creatures descends from the rooftops to flank Desmond in the alley.

I don't know why you used that spell... Also, you know nothing of the woman.

Dragorin strides forward as Desmond cuts down a vampire spawn, casting a spell to purge any invisibility effects, however nothing seems to be revealed.

The woman laughs at your arrogance as the two skeletal monsters lash out at Faraz and Desmond.

Sorry. Missed that. She is clearly a vampire. She can suck the very essence of your being from you with her melee attacks while dominating humanoids with her will. She can drain the blood from her victim to raise them as a vampire spawn. She also has constant Spider Climb.

The effect on Halbarad isn't a spell, thus Dispel Magic would not work. Terrill, the character, would know that the vampire's Dominate ability is innate and not spell-like, thus he would know that Dispel Magic wouldn't effect it (Because of your knowledge check). You can retcon your actions.

Thanks for the retcon, DM, very fair of you. And thanks for the brilliant recollection out of nowhere, Hal! It would make sense that Hal would continue to expect Terrill to carry the scroll, so I'm going to go with that.

And yes, per the description of dominate person, Hal gets another save at +2 if forced to take an action against his nature.

With the long-tongued vampire fled, and Desmond frozen in place, Terrill recalls something Hal gave him when they first set out together. He pulls a scroll from his belt pouch, takes a step toward Desmond, and activates its magic, restoring his mobility.

Is it against the nature of a vain, haughty, elitist, and somewhat racist elf with special training in killing humans to shoot a Chelaxian? :)

Jest aside, it would be against Hal's nature to get into a fight with another Pathfinder per "Explore, Report, Cooperate." And I suppose that given his special training in killing undead, it would be against his nature to serve a vampire, too.

In the event I get the second Will save:
Will: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 8 + 2 = 26 Hal (probably?) breaks free of the domination! With a fury only one who has spent a century hunting undead can bring to bear, the elf turns his weapon on his oppressor.

[ooc]Only slight changes to my actions are necessary. Hal directs his bird directly north 5 feet from his original position and shoots at the vampire with silver arrows. With the elimination of the nonlethal penalty and the reduction of the favored enemy bonus to +2, the rolls end up as follows:

Manyshot: 16 + 4 - 2 = 18
Damage, Magic/Silver: 2d6 + 4 + 6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6, 3) + 4 + 6 + 1 + 2 = 22
Damage, Magic/Silver: 2d6 + 4 + 6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1, 2) + 4 + 6 + 1 + 2 = 16

Rapid Shot: 19 + 4 - 2 = 21
Damage, Magic/Silver: 2d6 + 4 + 6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4) + 4 + 6 + 1 + 2 = 20

Iterative: 18 + 4 - 2 = 20
Damage, Magic/Silver: 2d6 + 4 + 6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (5, 2) + 4 + 6 + 1 + 2 = 20

The command was to protect the vampire from threats. I'm not sure that goes against his nature to defend women from harm especially since Dragorin just roasted him.

@Terrill: Scroll use is perfectly legit. Glad you guys made that contingency.

Brewing beer will update soon. Just assume vamp spawn sucks more blood and post actions.

@Hal: You don't actually know she is an undead. And refusal to help something kind of defeats the purpose of the spell. Then everything of the spell requires extra saves if you don't like bad guys, so I think it is more nuanced than that.

Perfectly fair, I don't mind staying dominated. Was just a thought (along with the Explore Report Cooperate thing). :)

Halbarad fires off three ineffective arrows at the Chelaxian fire priest while Terrill manages to undo the paralysis affecting his compatriot, thanks to Hal's forethought almost three weeks ago.

Flinders:
Those who slay many over the course of their lifetimes, be they serial killers, mass-murderers, warmongering soldiers, or battle-driven berserkers, become marked and tainted by the sheer weight of their murderous deeds. When such killers are brought to justice and publicly executed for their heinous crimes before they have a chance to atone, the remains sometimes return to unlife to continue their dark work as a mohrg.

Undead things caring less for life than they did before their own deaths, mohrgs exist solely to wreak havoc on the living. Sometimes mistaken for skeletons or zombies, they are far more dangerous than those mindless abominations, retaining some semblance of their own memories—and the delight they once took in hearing the screams of the dying.

They like to paralyze their prey with their saliva to exact as much pain and suffering on their targets as possible, while their claws grip their still writhing foes with ease.

Since I'm up in initiative before Terrill, I think I still need to shoot at Dragorin this round. That means I would have moved to see him, putting us both 10 feet further north.

Terrill hasn't done anything hostile to the vampire yet, as I recall. So Hal has no sense that he's not an ally to himself. EDIT: nor has Terrill helped Dragorin in any way since Hal got dominated.

And Terrill is still an ally, and Hal knows that. The spell description says "Subjects resist this control" - I would think that would include allowing someone he trusts to tap him with a finger to aid in resisting. I was posting while in transit, and had considered speaking to Hal to have him understand what I was doing, but didn't have time to do that.

Hmm... this is the first time I've used or seen Dominate in play. Can't say I see what the big deal is all about when everyone complains about "Watch out when your big dumb Fighter gets Dominated." Guess I figured this spell should actually be good, but it seems to suck pretty bad.
