I'm fine with following along for now. The theme of domestic violence hits quite close to home with me...
I'm so sorry to hear that. I can drop this entirely, I do not want to make anyone uncomfortable on here.

Same, sorry, should have said that instead of the other thing.
Naberius Belthrune |
No, it's totally fine. That is in the past. I can appreciate dealing with such complicated issues in roleplaying games, as long it's done in good taste. Which you are doing, so please carry on! :)
Tal Bernard Mainz |
I am fine with it as well but it does bring up a good reminder. If anything Tal does or says is an area of concern or brings up things best left alone I will not feel insulted if you ask me to drop it. We are all adults here and I believe we can work through most complicated situations without going overboard. Still I inderstand completely if a conversation turns in a wrong direction and it needs to stop.
As for Mera and Monday talking, right now Tal is glad to not be summoned by Mera as it has only been a very short time since her 'performance' for him.
Tal Bernard Mainz |
That could be jarring to some, but I meant in the future as well. Some of these AP's can hit brutally close to home in some situations.
Mera Wist-Thrune |
I don't think Tal has really done anything to throw up a flag, unless you count a PC being well adjusted and having a happy and healthful love life jarring :3
DAMN YE AND YE FAMILY VALUES!
/shakefist
I would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for you and that big heart of yours!
Tal Bernard Mainz |
Well to be honest with you after that great story I felt that I should give in it was that well written. However i felt this was truer to Tal and would give a better dynamic to th group later on.
Just don't you go taking it out on Lily now that you are upper nobility.

Aw shux, I'm glad you enjoyed the scene - it was fun! Mera has nothing against Lily, but she is a little jealous since you wouldn't cave. Oh, and Mera isn't married yet. There is still the strong chance it may not happen, right?
I've chatted with a few of you on Mera's intentions these last days, so I thought I'd just drop it here to fill in the gaps for anyone that may be confused.
Mera's original plan was to seduce Tal and get him to hang all over her in the presence of her betrothed and have him attack Tal who would retaliate in kind. Obviously that plan backfired on her when Tal proved too tough of a nut to crack.
She decided she would meet up with Monday to consult on tactics later that night. She went to the theater to blow off some steam and relax when none other than the one she was avoiding showed up to propose. He asked, she said no, they got into a fight and he hit her and threw her down the stairs in an effort to show her who's boss. Afterwards he threatened to destroy her family through Tertius if she refused him a second time. She relented.
Mera returns to try and make an excuse for her absence and lets slip a piece of this to Monday and Tuesday who now want to kill him. Mera is trying to back out of this slowly, unsure what to do now.
Mostly Mera is full of emotions and panic about not wanting to be with this man but fear of ruining things for her family. She feels like she has to bite the bullet and take it as she's told.
At the end of the day, Mera has grown to like and respect you all and will go out of her way to help/save you all. However, years of inherent training for the training in the aristocracy coupled with her newfound fame as a diva have gone to her head and her logic and reasoning can be self-serving at times.
If I get to be an asshat with it, please thwap me and tell me to back down, I don't want to make the game unfun but I like to have a little bit of dissension/tension in the party dynamic! :)

I accept no responsible for my actions.
Seriously, I don't know what got into me. I saw Naberius/Monday back and forth and got jealous!
Monday Daud |
I do enjoy how this all came about though:
Mera: I know! I'll go seduce the noble and faithful knight with my secret frog shaped weapon!
(one awesome story later)
Damn! How could I fail to seduce the man entirely devoted to his wife?! Stupid frog...
(the next day)
Mera: I know! I'll go rile up the psychopaths!
(5 seconds later)
... oh f$%& I just riled up the psychopaths...
Mera Wist-Thrune |
That sums it up nicely I think! Is Mera that transparent? One important thing to come out of this is that it should be known that Mera can and will tell teensy white lies about whateverthehell she wants to do and Tal is powerless to do anything about it. Hopefully that won't go to her head too much.

@Everyone: Again, feel free to play out the scene you have going on. I'll be ready to move on when you are.
@DM RichD: Well, there are a lot of proper names in that briefing... Any possibility of rolling Knowledge checks for any of those?
I'm still waiting to hear from you concerning Raveen's letter, as well. It would be nice to have that information before moving on.
Tal Bernard Mainz |
Agree on what knowledge checks are asked for even though Tal doesn't have any currently.
Also is there still a chance on Tal owning the blacksmith?
DM RichD |
@Naberius: I'll get some knowledge checks together. Concerning the letter from Raveen, while I was on vacation, he actually sent me a PM with what he wanted to include in it.
Even though the letter said there was more it was blank.
see you came across this. I had hoped your tendency to read by a fire and little Vasco could help, and I am glad, and thank the Lord of Secrets that this was revealed safely.
1. I bequeath upon you my apartment in Rigo Scriba and all its contains (The Rise building, room #2, second floor). Please check for a cache under the floorboard below the bed in my apartment. The lease is included, and you may find it a good change of pace to leave Aroden's hall of memories and broken promises. It is no a good omen to linger in a spiritually dead place such as this, if one is superstitious.
It is not wise to linger in a place so surrounded by buildings and an open road, if one is pragmatic, either.
I will advise taking a place closer to the docks, or taking over the Bastards' lair. It at least has multiple hidden exits, despite us somewhat lacking the personnel to man it. I would advise starting recruitment--though one must come up with a revolutionary narrative.
2. There is something I must do in Westcrown, though I now realize I cannot do it. This requires me to be stronger, smarter, and come up with something new--and I am not any of the above yet. Besides, with our comrades and commander are not initiated in the ways of crime and politics, I foresee this ending up badly for us. When you play this game on the streets, you either win, or die in the alleyways.
3. As I said with Palaveen, my goal in the city is to life the shadow-curse. My fascination with illusions has become somewhat clear to you at this point, but there is something rotting in the state of Westcrown. I believe the Shadow Curse to be a big part of this rot.
I left my magic mirror under the same floorboards for you and the others, for the shadow-beasts fear the light, and I will have no use for it in where I am now. Besides--you somewhat own it already.
4. As I have a goal to reach for, so must you: you must examine yourself and determine if there is something you want.
I see you drifting in a sea of uncertainty, and no sailor ever survived her terrible waves. If you deign to remain, you must not surrender yourself to your current situation, and declare to yourself what you need to do. Vasco is faithful to you, and hopefully, if you do decide to remain, you will find the cache being of some help in adjusting to your new life.
5. If you ever agree with my assessment that our once-shared leadership has the visible potential to fail, our fellowship has the possible potential to break, or this adventure might be cut short--please do not hesitate to leave!
The mere fact that the Children is just to 'help people' set warning bells in mine ears: we are moving against Thrune and all her lackeys, the Church and all the Hells below, and against organizations more hidden but no less sinister than the above--and we are doing this with no strategy, and with leadership that might be a little on the idealistic and naive side.
If you feel indebted to the city (which I will find curious), or loyalty to our comrades (which I somewhat understand, but do not wholly share), I need not remind you that one naturally selfish with their life--and no rational person condemns that.
6. Lastly, I again urge you to think of yourself whenever you feel the walls closing in: in many cases, a person gets only one chance before the end.
Despite leaving once we accomplished our mission, I feel that I have sinned. Please consider this restitution: the open ticket to Absalom will remain open for you and the others should things go dark.
Best wishes for all for you, and I hope to meet you (and your raven) again in brighter times.
-Mr. Fox
@Tal:You can certainly approach the Blacksmith about selling.
Naberius Belthrune |
Intelligence Check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Well, failing that would have sucked.
Interesting. Naberius pops by the apartment during the week of downtime to grab the mirror and check under the floorboards.
DM RichD |
Hello. This cache contains several things I feel belong to you and the group, as well as something useful to you if you have the resolve to remain in the city.
Herein is book with the names of all my contacts, academics or otherwise. The lease document for the apartment is also included. If you feel you must remain in Westcrown, you might need this and the below.
One man, Ilthar Eaglecord (the one who cast the spell on our eyes before our night raid) may employ you as an apprentice if you wish. It might be a tad humiliating to serve one nearly at your level of expertise, but it will give you a good excuse to leave the base and interact with people like the others, as well as some fresh air.
You might just remember the good ol' days of the Academae, and make use for a new name for yourself I was working on: Benizor "Benny" of Kennyth, from Karvosa. Innocent enough name, uncommon in the colonies.
I trust you can answer any questions regarding Karvosa. You can change the name--the records only exist here for now. Once you determine such a name, give ten coins to Flynn Linnyc (name and location detailed in the book) to make it official throughout Cheliaxian records (including the colonies) about a week, or a few days earlier if you pay him more if you wish for earlier papers. Tell him I sent you. If he lies and feigns ignorance, tell him that Alkalak send you. He should relent then.
It may take some time to get used to a new name. Don't worry--you might just forget what your real name is in a while.
Being an apprentice is a good source of information. Several minor and mid-level nobility also frequent the academies of Westcrown, and you might come across critical information in your work about the group's progress. Ilthar is easily impressed by minor conjurations, and his duties keep him busy most of the time--thus he is mostly a hands-off master. His apprentices, therefore, tend to die in some careless accident of his--but that is nothing an academae graduate cannot handle. Downplay your strength, but if you flaunt it, he will begin to celebrate you, and not suspect a thing. You can't lose either way.
I do recommend shaving some of your hair, growing a mustache or goatee (hah), or dying it another color if you do seek out apprenticeship.
Your pursuers might be obstinate, ignorant, and more than a little asinine, but if the Rackers (or the city) hear of your description, and if your pursuers get it in their minds to spread wanted posters, you might just add another enemy to your list--and it is filled as it is. The masks are (despite being symbolic) not very protective.
It might sound risky to accept apprenticeship at all, but I always believe one must always be in control, even if it is for a small measure. If you only hear and make decisions based on what you are told, you leave yourself vulnerable to manipulation and/or misinformation.
We are both self-reliant and dependable, and that is why I trust to grant you my property.
Use it well.

Bwhahaha, i love it!
I hope you didn't mind me cutting in on you there Naberius. Mera is simply not to be left out of using her negotiation skills.
Naberius Belthrune |
@Mera: No problem. They seem to be working together surprisingly well. :)
@DM RichD: Hmm... I really don't want to complain, but did any of Raveen's notes actually have any info about Naberius' unfortunate circumstances? I think he left that up to you.
Mera Wist-Thrune |
Post noted.
Rich - I sent you a PM, I want to get something clear before I respond.
Naberius Belthrune |
@Naberius: I saw that. Part of me is thinking of keeping it as maybe absent-mindedness on Raveen's part or maybe developing it further down the road in another missive from Raveen.
Whatever best serves the story. Raveen didn't really strike me as absent-minded, though... ;P
DM RichD |
@Mera: PM Responded to.
@Naberius: Maybe not absent-minded, but maybe uh...coy? I thought it was interesting that he had PM'd me the letter but didn't mention a[Insert info here] etc in it. I thought it might be interesting to RP that. What is Naberius' reaction? If Raveen contacts him again and this time offers information, does he trust him? etc.
I am not sure if Raveen is lurking in these threads or not but it is definitely an area I would like to explore even if Raveen becomes Naberius' NPC ally.
Naberius Belthrune |
Well, you might want to ask him about that. Alternatively, Raveen could point Naberius to another NPC contact of his for more information. That way we could keep playing it out, without directly involving Raveen if he'd rather keep his character out of it. I'm fine either way, as long as I have something to work with.
Naberius Belthrune |
It would still be nice to have some acknowledgement from the people who actually know the facts. Tal also asked about the specifics of the trials themselves, which he just repeated in-character. Also, this:
"What do we know of the director? Is it his sole intention to see his cast dead, or is he willing to actually give us a chance?"
Naberius Belthrune |
@Tal: I was checking your Diplomacy score, and noticed you've got 'Chelaxian' as one of your starting languages. That is not an actual language in Golarion: Chelaxians speak a dialect of Common (Taldane). You might want to swap it for something else.
Tal Bernard Mainz |
IT showed up on hero lab so I selected it. Will make a change here shortly.
Naberius Belthrune |
@DM RichD: Feel free to advance the plot. I don't want to hold up the action. If there is further intercharacter interaction, we can put it in spoilers, as we often threaten to do but never seem to.
Though as we do embark on this brand new and exciting adventure, I'd like to know if you've decided on what to do with Raveen's info/contacts. That'll affect how Naberius deals with his personal problems.
Tal Bernard Mainz |
Ready whenever just hiding in the shadows enjoying Lily and my new smithy (in that order of course.)
