Tal Bernard Mainz |
I see your point but Tal has been honest with Lily for the most part. That is why he wanted Lily to know about the group and the rest of it. As for the play itself Lily is not participating in the performance. There is no reason for her to face the trials as they are. Calsenica should know full well what is in store for her but is like an ostrich with her head stuck in the sand.
I do fully expect to roll a couple of 1's for Tal's performance checks though because of the irony of the situation.
Naberius Belthrune |
The AP suggests a performance check should be made at the end of each act. So it is whatever you all want to do. I'm game for either!
I'm fine with rolling after each act.
True, but then again, we have intentionally cultivated that naïveté in her.
Well, Naberius did ask Mera whether or not she was going to warn Calseinica that there might be some foul play going on, but she apparently decided not to. Her role in the play is not as dangerous as ours, though, so it might not be such a big deal.
Monday's line is next, by the way.
Mera Wist-Thrune |
Rich - Any chance you could link the script up top in the short desc for the remainder of the play?
Naberius Belthrune |
Now that I think about it, would it make more sense to roll our Perform checks at the beginning of each act? That way, we can actually play out the results, whether they be good or bad.
Mera Wist-Thrune |
I concur. Rolling them up front allows us to play our performance up or down accordingly.
Monday Daud |
With Monday pretending to be from Galt and playing a comic relief paladin, it's hard not to envision her as Nibbles the Mouse.
Naberius Belthrune |
So, is everyone okay with rolling at the beginning of each act? I still have plenty of lines, so I'll throw the roll in here and prewrite them for quick posting...
Perform (act): 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 3 + 2 = 15
Okay, pretty decent. I'll just keep on being adequate. :P
Mera Wist-Thrune |
Act 1: 1d20 + 3 + 3 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 3 + 11 = 20
I guess a 20 still kicks butt, seriously. A 3?!
Mera Wist-Thrune |
WOOT! Made my day.
Monday Daud |
Perform (Act 1): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Decided to go and and put those extra skill points in perform because *shrugs* she's been practicing and they're not going anywhere else.

Aw man, I'm totally interested! I just started THREE additional AP's though and I'm exceeding my maximum concurrent game count as is. Have fun!

Thanks for the invite but good as well right now.
Nice time to add some skill points Monday. I think we have a new star of the show.
Tal Bernard Mainz |
btw I love that Thesing has failed 4 reflex saves and had the worst acting role/roll possible. Some days I think this dice roller is rigged.
Mera Wist-Thrune |
Rigged?! Just desserts!!! It couldn't happen to a better slimeball.
I for one am quite enjoying the crowd. I can't wait for Tal to make his grand appearance. Praytell, is Lily in attendance? That would be Marvelous.
Tal Bernard Mainz |
That is up to RichD. I am hoping not as Tal did not want her to see the trials but he could not stop her from attending either.. We will have to see how it plays out. I had arranged for Lily to be with the tieflings and a messenger sent to her when the play was over but RichD could easily change that.

Here is how the scene is described in the AP:
In this act, Larazod is affixed to a torturous implement referred to in the play as “the device.” This is a combination rack and wheel, meant to stretch the victim’s limbs and twist his body into increasingly painful positions. All the time, Drovalid must be inflicting whip strokes upon the three to further increase their torment.
At the start of the act, the device is brought on stage to a chorus of impressed “oohs” and “ahhs” from the audience. Once it’s been thoroughly and dramatically displayed, Larazod is stripped down to a loincloth (making him unable to use equipment in this act as a result) and strapped into the device. The actor playing Drovalid is expected to strike at one of the three actors with a whip after each line is delivered from this point until Drovalid’s line that begins, “He is as unbreakable as a marble tide,” at which point the torments cease for
the rest of the act.
Targets Larazod, Dentris, Tybain (whipping); Larazod (device)
Torment—Whipping Drovalid makes a total of 10 whip attacks on the various prisoners, once after each spoken line until the play indicates the torment ends. He must make an attack roll against the chosen target’s flat-footed AC; he can attempt to miss on purpose, but each time he misses a stroke, he must succeed on a DC 20 Bluff check.
Torment—The Device Each time Drovalid strikes Larazod with his whip, the device twists and turns, inflicting 1 point of nonlethal damage on Larazod. A character who takes nonlethal damage while staggered or unconscious instead takes lethal damage. Each time a conscious character takes this point of damage, he can attempt a DC 15 Fortitude save to negate it.
I assume Mera is wearing a simple tunic instead of a loincloth. :)

Monday might be ok with Mera in a loincloth?
Does Tal get any bonus points if he uses the whip to strip the fabric from Mera? The crowd might approve of that.

I think this is the only time when you want to roll a 1 on the D20. Not good for ratings but I will take it!
Naberius Belthrune |
No armor, then? At least Mera gets the +2 armor bonus from the spell.
Is the 1 point of nonlethal damage from the device completely negated by ablative barrier, or is it added to Tal's damage rolls?
Mera Wist-Thrune |

You and me both Tal!
Can he can attempt to miss on purpose, but each time he misses a stroke, he must succeed on a DC 20 Bluff check.
Can he roll Bluff when he misses or only if he chooses to miss on purpose?
Also for clarification purposes, my AC will be 16 with DR5/nonlethal. That means Tal's attack of 16 hits and lands 3 NL damage which is soaked by the barrier in addition to the 1+1 from the device, leaving 20 remaining.
Am I understanding that correctly?

Mera you get a fort save to negate the 1 damage from the device as indicated above. The DC is 15 for each.
Otherwise I think the spell soaked 5 damage and you still took 3 yourself.
At this rate Tal will whip Monday and Naberius just once but Mera will probably get the rest.
Monday, don't get any ideas from Tal whipping you.

Lol, sorry mistress Monday. Please don't get mad at me.

Unless ablative barrier absorbs that as well. We still need a ruling on that from the GM.

This is correct.

Your AC will be a bit lower than that, unfortunately:

Unless you have some buff active that I'm not aware of...? If I had known about the flat-footedness before, I probably would have cast mage armor on you as well. :/
Mera Wist-Thrune |
Yay?
Tal Bernard Mainz |
just d3 +5 every attack. at least the barrier negates Tal strength damage.
Mera Wist-Thrune |
Yeah, I'd rather have Naberius whipping me though. Couldn't we have found some sort of healing whip?!

Ha! Even in the face of soul-crushing pain, he taunts
this ridiculous Magistrate of Hell. Hear me, Aroden,
if Asmodeus has such as Larazod in his employ, all our
efforts are doomed. Would your white fist command such
steadfast loyalty as this one here, who laughs at death and
grins at the grimmest pain.
There are you lines Monday if you need.
Also Tal is horrible with a whip. That is 3 misses now thanks to poor rolling. I guess Mera will be getting the last 2 lashings for sure sine she is so protected. Perhaps it is Tal's subconscious attraction to Mera that is making him hesitate to lash her. He has no problem hitting Monday or Naberius though is seems.
