The Gauntlet Round 5
Levelle, Braelex, Relan, Bats, Talaay, Vuloo, Andel, Aidon
Levelle and Relan both unleash arrows when the bats get to about 100 feet, all 3 striking the lead bat Relan hit earlier. One of those arrows drives into its face, causing it to warble a bit before it descends and splits to the left, the trailing one also descends as it advances further toward the platform.
Both are about 20 feet up ... 15 feet above you
Braelex fires a bolt at the uninjured one as it wheels to within 30 feet of the tiefling. Her aim is true and she punches a hole through a wing.
Finally Vuloo catches them right before they split and sends a burning explosion of light through both the unholy creatures, causing the left hand one to screech out in pain.
Bat1 Reflex Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25; success!
Bat2 Reflex Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18; success!
Map updated. Please post Round 6 actions. HP (Green) and Altitude (Red out of 85 feet max) bars are showing on the creatures.
Relan* |
The fighter fires another cold iron arrow at the bat before dropping his bow and moving to defend the others, ranseur in hand. He positions himself to be the most likely targets and waits. Get behind me Vuloo.
Masterwork Composite Longbow: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 151d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
+1 Cold Iron Ranseur: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 252d4 + 8 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4) + 8 + 6 = 22
Levelle Mahe |
Levelle stands her ground for now continuing to fire at the closest of targets as the bats move about...
Shot, DA: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 8 - 2 = 7
The arrow skitters in an off direction, swirling aerial maneuvering testing the hunter's aim.
Levelle lets a low whistle to signal Talaay to land on her shoulder.

The Gauntlet Round 6
Levelle, Braelex, Relan, Bats, Talaay, Vuloo, Andel
Levelle shoots and misses as Talaay returns to her perch. Braelex also reloads and fires her crossbow at the closest one.
To hit: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Relan fires once again but the bat steers away as the warrior drops his bow and braces his polearm. He notes the boat is unsteady and he moves to the front of the platform.
The bats swoop in, the first staying high and crossing over Relan and screeching loudly, (Everyone make a DC16 Fort save or be stunned for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 rounds). This is a stunning effect / not fear)
The second one swoops down to just above the water and takes a massive chunk of flesh out of Braelex before heading east out over the water.
To hit vs Braelex: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30; HIT!; Crit?: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17; CRIT!; Damage: 4d8 + 14 ⇒ (8, 3, 8, 4) + 14 = 37 plus make a DC16 Fort Save or be paralyzed 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 rounds and make a DC16 Fort Save or contract Ghoul Fever
Vuloo moves. (Don't forget about Andel!)
Relan* |
Rylan 5' steps on the dock and full attacks.
+1 Cold Iron Ranseur: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (6) + 14 = 202d4 + 8 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 8 + 6 = 19

Levelle For: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Talaay For: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Levelle winces at the yell of the bat and feels Talaay stiffen in response. Staying in place the hunter helps drop the bird to the ground and then shoots another arrow after the bats.
To the extent I can I will prioritize the wounded one
Shoot! Deadly Aim: 1d20 + 8 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 8 - 2 + 1 = 17
Damage?: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

The Gauntlet Round 7
Levelle, Braelex, Relan, Bats, Talaay, Vuloo, Andel
With a well timed shot, Levelle catches the southern bat at the bottom of it's wheeling flip and puts an arrow through its brainpan. The creatures plummets to the water making a terrific splash.
Relan glides across the platform leaping into the moored boat and while on unsteady feet, strikes a blistering blow to the creature as it flies away just off the surface of the water.
It screeches and turns a wingover to the west, just out of reach of the warrior's ranseur to attack the stunned alchemist again causing her to collapse. The creature alights on the edge of the deck to try and scoop up the mortally wounded tiefling.
To hit: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18; HIT!; Damage: 2d8 + 7 ⇒ (3, 1) + 7 = 11
Everyone else is stunned ... back to Levelle and Relan
With a gasp of breath you open your eyes. You are lying on a flat piece of stone ... very uncomfortable. There are short stone walls surrounding you closely but no ceiling. Looking up you recognize one of the lights of the Lady's Light looking down at you.
... and it appears you are wearing a dress.
DMFflash |
You do get the AoO and don't quite destroy it ... super close, though.
EDIT: To answer Levelle's question, no, I let the chips fall where they fall. However, i misread Relan's numbers (for some reason they get all jammed together on Wayfinder) so he will destroy the bat prior to its attack on Braelex.
Braelex -- please conveniently disregard the spoiler above ... it was a bad dream ...
END COMBAT!
Levelle Mahe |
[ooc]Is there anything to be done at this point to keep Braelex from dying out right? I've played in so many groups with minor variants around death and dying I figure its better to ask to be sure.[/ooc
Relan* |
Breathing heavily Relan moves to stand protectively over Braelex until her condition wears off. For undead those were smart bats. :)
Vuloo |
Vuloo will come to the aid of Braelex.
CMW: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (8, 2) + 6 = 16
CMW: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 6 = 10
Once the tiefling is back on her feet, Vuloo will return to the boat. "Perhaps we should just proceed to the stone platform for now."
Levelle Mahe |
I agree. Lets take a moment to look that area over before we contemplate traversing the water further.
Relan* |
This fight was bad enough here on the dock. Relan points out. It could have been much worse had we had to fight from boats in open water.
DM Fflash |
Sorry for the delay, haven't been able to get to the computer for a bit ... phone doesn't allow me as much flexibility
The party crawls into the boats and rows them across the cold, quiet lake. The light from the lichen on the walls casts an eerie green glow in places and there are several moments where you swear you see a face or body just under the surface of the water.
Right as you're disembarking, Vuloo catches sight of a mottled white arm ending in broken blackened fingernails grasping at the base of one of your oars. He shudders as it slips back into the water, invisible under the surface.
Stone Platform
A stone platform extends from the cave wall here, its floor a foot from the water surface. An immense red metal panel sits in the far wall, its face engraved with numerous scenes depicting a beautiful woman on a throne as numerous strange monsters bow before her. These depict Sorshen using her magic to dominate all manner of powerful monsters, including giants, dragons, neothelids, sea monsters, mobogos, and the like.
You quickly realize this "panel" is similar to the one in the previous chamber. As before, pressing the central image of Sorshen dominating a giant, causes the panel to glow softly as Thassilonian writing appears along the panel’s upper edge before the door swings open into a wide marble hallway featuring a single row of columns down the center.
The vaulted ceiling thirty feet above is painted with lewd frescoes depicting giants and humans engaged in carnal acts set among pastoral scenes. To the south, the hall widens before rising up in a series of steps to a white marble throne. Six large treasure chests sit next to the throne. Seated on the throne is an immense humanoid female. Bestial tusks jut from the jaw of this hunched-over giant. She is clad in armor patched together from the bones of smaller creatures. She is flanked by two monstrous monitor lizards.
Cave giants survive as hunter-gatherers, subsisting on subterranean animals and plants, yet they're intensely envious of the innovations and yields other races produce.
Lacking both talent and patience necessary for creation or cultivation, they take what they desire by raiding other races or by enslaving them. Cave giants especially prize metal weapons, as they're always at war, either with their own kind or with other races.
Though not particularly religious, cave giants pay homage to the god of earthquakes and eruptions. Their priests are mostly barbarians and rangers, though a few divine spellcasters exist. The latter are often devoted to grand but futile schemes, such as freeing the Rough Beast or blotting out the hated sun.
She bellows out a challenge as you approach: “You dare enter my throne room, little mortals! If you kneel to me now, I, Sorshen, shall call off my pets and eat only one of you!”

Sometimes I know stuff: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
It's a Cave Giant. Relan says quietly to the others as he takes a 5' step forward to take point. Likely a fight. These things are uncouth bullies. Buffs if you got um. Battlefield control spells encouraged.
Levelle Mahe |
Levelle nods at Relan, bow in hand, I never expected you lot got into so many fights...
Andel Gessaran |

Mochtau Sorshen! Round 1
Init: Andel, Relan, Braelex, Vuloo, Mochtau, Levelle, Lizards
Andel calls out the creature for what it is and identifies weaknesses while Relan and Braelex move forward and prepare for a fight. Vuloo blesses the party.
The giant stands up and grabs a treasure chest, hoisting it high, bellowing out "“Kneel, little mortals, I am SORSHEN!”
Levelle prepares for approach as well, and her preparation isn't unwarranted as the lizards surge forward with a vicious hiss and she launches an arrow into the hide of the western most one.
Top of the order, actions!

Mochtau Sorshen! Round 2
Init: Andel, Relan, Braelex, Vuloo, Mochtau, Levelle, Lizards
Andel enchants himself while Relan and Braelex continue to hold the line. Vuloo opens a healing channel to Relan.
The giant roars in defiance, its eyes lighting up with raw rage and it heaves the treasure chest down the hall with incredible strength at Relan striking the warrior in the chest and bursting open sending rotten meat and bones exploding across everyone.
Relan, Andel, Braelex and Levelle make DC12 Fort Saves or be sickened
To hit Chest vs Relan: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27; HIT! Damage: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
Levelle fires again feathering the lizard a second time. It stumbles but continues to rush forward, catching a bolt from Braelex before it gets cut down by Relan sliding to a stop in front of the warrior. The giant screams a cry of great anguish, reaching for its massive axe.
Andel isn't as lucky as the eastern lizard rushes him, but the bard is able to duck out of the way of the biting jaws.
Relan will get an AoO against the 2nd lizard as well
Lizard Charge vs Andel: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 2 = 15; miss
