yes - please post some PFS legal bard builds at level 7 with 23200gp expenditures leaving about 300gp cash. The PFS requirement will mean they are not contentious or cause rule-lawyering and people can certainly substitute back in Scribe Scroll or Craft Wondrous Item. You can certainly list & label non-PFS choices as options. It also confines the effort to the same campaign space and all the options are shown on AoN. While it means the builds will be a bit generic, they will be good examples that can be tweaked for the flavor of your Home Game. Effortless Lace is one example of a contentious to broken item. Aasimar is like shootin fish in a barrel so it is a clear top race choice so I avoided it.

I didn't list exact spells or performances as those will vary a bit by taste but there are core choices and many are clear.

My form above isn't the best but it does show choices to level 7 or 8.

There are a few non-listed choices in the initial post due to Bard's Versatile Performance and the armor price may be off as I looked at leather rather than studded leather...

I am working on a "who shot that arrow!" Samsaran bard with comp shortbow ranged attacks with gravity bow & likely illusion of calm but not exactly happy with it at the moment...

I'd like to see the two Dervish builds, Archeologist, Archivist, Dirge Bard, and Mute Musician so folks can see the options made flesh.

Tactic: with Illusion of Calm and Gravity Bow you will be deadly while you hum a ditty and seemingly don't cast.... okay - so it won't hide a bow but spears are cheap and you have 4 cheap daggers plus you have a really good Bluff!

I'm not sure if we are doing nitpicks, but that's probably too late to take extra performance. By that level, you will naturally have enough rounds to go through most reasonable adventuring days, and this only gets more certain as your level goes up. Also, lingering performance is almost always a better option, as it both extends how many rounds you have per day and lets your allies keep benefitting if you happen to get incapacitated.

It's fine. People have been nitpicking at the first design for many years (LoL since 2009). Its purpose is to set a baseline and try to stick to the CRB rather than be a really good build (and that's why it is here). Something you can play at the drop of a hat that's not too complicated. Note that its main thrust is AC, HPs, and rounds of performance. It could use some advice.

I'd use a name and a link to it to help the readers.


If core-only, I'd consider using skill focus(perform) for whichever skills most benefit from your versatile performance ability.

Right now you have Comedy (Bluff, Intimidate) and Wind (Diplomacy, Handle Animal). Giving 3 skills a +3/+6 bonus with one feat is a pretty nice "savings"


Renatus
HP wise this is a tight build if you plan to do a lot of front line action. I'd buy a three ioun stones to buffer his death point so you have a bit more breathing room (beyond the Aegis of Recovery crumbling). Tourmaline Sphere (Normal) Ioun Stone (+2 Con for dying) $1000, Emerald Ellipsoid (Cracked) Ioun Stone (1 temp HP) $2000, Pearly White Spindle (Cracked) Ioun Stone (Regen 1/hr) $3400. Implanting the stones is a standard process.
Ablative Barrier will give you faster healing as you recover 1 HP & 1 temp HP from each point from cures and fast healing. Still when you go down your temp HPs will be down thus it'll be a hard fall. It might be worth investing in False Life:N2 via samsaran MPLives based on your campaign.
A scroll of B Endur:T2 (+4 enhc Con) $150 can save lives.

For simple thrown weapons (proficient, work with WpnFnss, cheap); obsidian daggers are lgt wpn, cheap, and glass. Shortspear sz:med 1hnd (1d6 c20*2)P Rng:20ft 3lb 1gp gains damage but not lgt wpn(no Wpn Fnss) and not all that subtle but IS covered by Illusion of Calm, ditto for Spear but not Longspear (not thrown). Ammentum martial wpn is key for javelins.

I originally did this character as an orc but since the OP wants PFS legal, it's now a half-orc. Though the only thing it really changes is the point buy.

Arrowsong Minstrel:

A point buy of 20 nets me 12 Str, 16 Dex, 14 Con, 10 Int, 8 Wis, 16 Cha. Level up bonus goes into Dex for 17.

Traits are Irrepressible to switch Will Saves over to Cha. And Memorable to increase the duration of all mind-affecting uses.

Feats to level 7:
1: Lingering Performance
2: Precise Shot (Class bonus from archetype)
3: Point-Blank Shot
5: Rapid Shot
7: Weapon Focus Longbow

For magic items, a Tuned Bowstring is gonna eat up most of that 23500, leaving only 5500 left. Assuming you don't get any discounts for a party member crafting it. You can still get a +1 added to your weapon, a Ring of Protection, and a Cloak of Resistance. With 500 gold left for mundane equipment like armor and rope and stuff.

my designs allow a PC build to be implemented at 1st to 7th level or beyond by adjusting the Gear and Equipment to mundane, masterwork, or a lower enhancement bonus or at worst not buying (like the headbands & belts). It's a practical growth oriented design that keeps them effective through the leveling.
A GM or Player could pick up this design and implement it without a lot of work for a practical believable organic character. Yes, add +1CR for wealth Mr GM.
If a GM sticks to NPC wealth, by all means choose one or two big item(s) with that cash and ignore being organic as you're just a plot device and challenge.

In Org Play first level wands come pretty easily at 2PP (resale value =$0). It's why I fudged on the wand charges (rather than fully charged). Partially charged wands show up on Chronicles (famously a Wand:Enervation:N4@7 [10]).


I would probably say take Flagbearer, get a Singing Steel [improve your action economy of starting a performance] longspear [I almost never hit anything, it just gives me Aid Another at reach {using Helpful Halfling trait for +4 total} and easier flanking], and attach a Banner of the Ancient Kings [so that 4 levels out of 5, your Inspire Courage is an added +1 and you get +4 to initiative and double the Flagbearer bonus with it].

I also like taking Versatile Performance with a Skill Focus feat spent, and maximizing the performance for Intimidate. Learn and cast Blistering Invective, and you've basically made all enemies Shaken if they are within 30' radius of you.

And get a lesser extend rod for casting Haste and/or Good Hope [though GH won't stack with Flagbearer if you went with that option]. Both are really strong spells at Bard level 7.

Headband of Charisma and Circlet of Persuasion are really strong items too, so you may have to give up either the Singing Steel weapon or the Banner, depending on your gp availability and investing in the typical items also [cloak/ring/armor].

3) PwrAtk & Crowd control with Cleave-Grtr Cleave-Cleaving Finish. The bread-and-butter of fighters {basically -2(+4) -3(+6)}
4) Feint (Diva) path Diva Style Feat, Imp Feint, etc. Really 1 on 1 help & most is out of scope [!PFS]Diva in Training Trait.
5) Buffing Bard - BrdPfrm feats.

you can't do everything so you have to choose a path.
Luckily Dervish Dance covers only the scimitar for Slashing Grace.
As a Dex fighter you still need WpnFnss for other weapons in case bad things happen or for Slashing Grace (IF you were a real Fighter) on a second weapon (but no two-wpn fighting!).

This is my own Archaeologist Bard Build. Kinda like a short female Indiana Jones with pink hair. Going to level 11 for this one since it's rather feat heavy and I wanted to sure what I had in mind.

Traits: Fate's Favored and Nimble Finger Keen Mind.

Stats on a 20 point buy: 10 Str, 16 Dex, 14 Con, 13 Int, 11 Wis, 15 Cha. Putting level boost into Wis and Cha for 12 and 16 respectively.

Actually starting this build with a level of Fighter. Needed for feats. Then another Fighter level at character level 6. No other multiclassing needed.

Tactic: Buff the party, BrdPfrm, or use shortbow from range. Maybe feint at distance(prcptn mods) then rng atk or rng tch, avoid melee until low on spells. Better build than I expected with lots of fey RP and deity shenanigans. Hideous Laughter is a good spell for putting a low Will target on pause and Persistent makes it killer. Silent Spl makes you rather sneaky as a Bard...

Possibilities:
> stock some potions/scrolls/wands.
> Get a mw tool reinforced & pocketed scarf to SoH {+2 crcm} $10+50 (GM call) {see Bard spells}.
> ask your GM if you can get a Giant Bee or Corgi mount (it's thematic sillyness).
> buy a weapon (you're a spellcaster). I went for the defensive & ability basics & your god's wpn is a dagger... sml mithral (mw) gladius $1507.5, sml blood crystal mw gladius $1807.5(best choice IMO), sml elysian bronze mw gladius $1307.5, plus $2000(+1). MW sap and another mithral dirk would be nice.

> Flagbearer Feat is an option trading a feat for +1 morl bonus BUT I think Spl Fcs or Metamagics are better. It requires you use a hand (no bow but can cast or BrdPfrm)(flag & shield)(flag & gladius) which is not so great for action efficiency if your combat pinging(arrws) is needed.

comment: honestly the class seems a match for the race. It would not work out as nicely with others besides halfling(luck), gnome(Ill), or samsaran(MythPastLife) as picking up some spells and putting them on your known list or having casting synergy is key.

they are intentionally detailed to provide insight into the various options, choices, and purchases as the character is created and leveled to seventh level rather than just a finished PC at 7th. I make different (good) choices with each build tailored to the character concept and abilities. This allows readers to change those choices if they desire to see the incremental & cumulative effect.

Purchasing gear and equipment as the character levels is a natural progression that reflects actual progression due to play/experience rather than a contrived bulk purchase. It is also an important part of the character (both in terms of variability and power). With NPCs and NPC wealth it makes sense to do a contrived purchase as they represent a challenge and character at that point in their progression rather than a detailed PC.

The summary "=== the above yields at lvl 7 ===" gives a very basic stat block with attacks and tactics (DPR is a thing).

This is about choices and the result that mimics actual play rather than just a character compendium. This makes them fine PC examples for players rather than NPCs.

The "level by level" format is rather tedious so I prefer to group the choices by topics leaving in the level, thus Feat at 7th is abbreviated as F7. This makes it easier for the reader to compare the choices within a topic but you'll have to jump about a bit in the write up when recreating the character.
A standard PC format gives you the end result but does not inform the reader as to how you got there, the various choices, impact of race, or various rules to create that end result. While handy for GMs, it leaves the bulk of the details in creating that character to the reader and often hides trivial mistakes.

If you want to compare, simply copy each into a document application, name then save each. You can compare them using the metrics of your choice or recreate the character on a PC sheet or spreadsheet based sheet or in some other application.
If you have trouble reproducing the character on a character sheet refer to Archive of Nethys for PF1, the CRB, and your application guide.

As they are public posts if you want to create a standard write-up with text formatting and post the finished named character at 7th level be my guest as I clearly left it to the reader.


Another poster creating a standard formatted character at Seventh level then posting it double checks my work and catches some trivial errors or may introduce some of their own. Peer review is generally a good thing.

Background: raised in an irrisen nunnery with several weeks 'solace' during winter in northern cheliax with the nunns at their yearly congregation and resupply. Giselle chose Reymenda partially out of rebellion and as a reflection of the stern environment and her isolation.
