I currently don't think that's simply giving more damage to less versatility is the best option. It's like trying to solve a lack of variety in the lunch just increasing the qty.

As for the difference between dedicated and universalists, this is best resolved by allowing the progressive exchange of extra talents as the character progresses.

Currently the Dedicated is better for low level games while universalist receives way more benefits in the end game. It's like the currently situation of Warpriests. They are excellent choices for low level, especially before lvl 7 where the both weapons and magic proficiencies are closer and the armor and shield makes a big difference. But in latter levels where the Spell DC is more and the armor and weapons progression becomes staginated many players just switch to Cloistered or other classes.

To avoid to fall in this same situation the Kineticists' gates needs a better progression more than extra damage.

You could always remove the choice of gate at the beginning and have people pick up to 4 elements. Then every time you could pick and element, if you pick an element you already have you gain an impulse/infusion.

This limits how wide a kineticist could be regardless of how many elements get added later on, while kineticist that keep a single element would get more control over their element.

(It would help if there were more impulses/infusion that could be used by multiple elements)

I think the designer avoid this concept of choose each element independently to not overrun even more the class with feats and to do something different from druid orders.

But yet with some ajustments this can be an interesting alternative. Instead of choose between how many gates at once. The class could give some extra feats to allow get access to different elements over time as a choice using feats. But this will require more extra impulse feats.

Including this could be an interesting solution to solve the lack of feat slots for impulses. Give extra impulse only feats in the 1º level and each every 4 levels (1,5,9,13,17) and give some feat like Order Explorer if you want to have access to more elements. This way the main difference between dedicated, dual, triple... will be the number os class feats you will use to select more elements. This creates a balance between the number of elements in exchange of having less feats to use to take more class/impulse feats. Also gives some more feats to help the currently lack of feats that the class already have in higher levels.

I was thinking of something more universal.

Something that could let us add con to damage.

Like if blast's didn't require us to gather but if when gathered we had half con to damage on blast's and overflow deals full con mod to damage.

I can get behind that. However, I do think that dedicated gates should gain some additional benefit since they lack the versatility of the others (particularly fire, since idk what alternate damage type it could have).
