One of the better covers for sure. Not real interested in Silverberg though. Are you guys going to get back to anymore Sword & Planet or Sword & Sorcery anytime soon?

You should try the KEW stuff again now that Conan the Barbarian 2011 has flopped. I am sure they were just holding out for movie rights. Maybe they were waiting to see how Conan did.

Tarzan with dreadlocks?

Karl Edward Wagner is long out of print and overly expensive...

I just do not see the appeal of ebooks. I mean, I realize that it saves space but I love my book shelf and I love watching it grow all the time. And I love old school cover art.

I recently picked up an Ace anthology called Swordsmen in the Sky edited by a pre-DAW Donald A Wollheim. This got me thinking about these older anthologies. Have you guys thought about doing one of these with old, lesser known pulp S&S and S&P authors? That might be a great idea for authors like Clifford Ball and others.

I love Otherworlds stuff. Glad you guys are carrying it now.

Here is a strange one that has come to my attention. Not a request or even probably a candidate but I figure someone may find this interesting. Its a book called "The Iron Dream" written by Norman Spinrad and it is an alternate history book. The premise is that Adolf Hitler immigrates to America in 1919 after his tour of duty in WW1 and he becomes a pulp writer who writes a book called "Lord of the Swastica" in 195x shortly before dying. The book within a book basically explores fascism/militariam as science fiction with super races and the like. The book itself is supose to be satirical and taking a jab at the fascist and sometimes racist nature of SF/Fantasy of the day. Apparently the book won the Nebula and some other award. Wikipedia has a good article on it. Has anyone read this?

Need some pre-Burroughs Mars novels.

Gustavus Pope-A Journey To Mars/A Journey To Venus
Ellsworth Douglas-Pharoh's Broker
Percy Greg-Across the Zodiac
Robert Cromie-Plunge Into Space

Great looking stuff. Joe Jusko is an amazing artist.

Manowar

Secret Of Steel

Atop the mountain, where the river of steel flows
Black is the forest, white was the snow.
There as children, how could children know?
One without name or number soon would show.
There stood he, on his chariot made of gold
He did reveal the trinity of secrets old.
A sceptre of iron could mercy bring.
A shield of gold, the Creator and king,
And the great sword of steel.
Sons of destiny shall wield.
Hear Wisdom's voice.
Rise, know the strength that you feel.
Hold in your heart but never reveal.
You were called by the Gods, their powers to wield.
Guard well the secret of steel.

And really anything else from Manowar...

Ronnie James Dio aka the rainbow in the dark, is in no way hair metal.

The GM in descent is not really a GM. As overlord you actually play the game. You activley try to win.

Yeah, awesome! Thanks alot.

So im not much of a GM/world builder type so im looking for something that lends itself to the following theme.

Something pulpy. Detectives, rocketmen, archeologist, early non super powered super heroes mixed with a Lovecraftian New England mixed with maybe a hollow earth lost world Jules Verne sort of thing mixed with rockets to mars and venus ERB sort of thing, a Tarzan type africa, mummys and curses in egypt, lost civilizations, cannibals...etc...

Is there a pre-existing setting that fits this bill?

Glad to see a group comming together in Houston. Me and the wife had alot of fun the couple of times we made it down Kirth. Maybe i should try to find a group up here in the Boston area. Id love to get in on some Shadowrun action. Havent played that since 1st ed. Kind of feeling burnt on fantasy so id actually like to get in on any cyberpunk/sci-fi style gaming. Anyhow...goodluck with things guys and have fun!

Howard was undeniably racist. Just read through some of his letters. While i personally despise racism i have no trouble seperating the art from the artist. I love Howards work. Same with Lovecraft for that matter. Same for ERB. Was there any pulp writers who werent racist?

I also love Wagner.

Ofcourse everyone is entitled to read or not read what they wish.

That is Wilhelm Richard Wagner by the way. Just incase it was cause for any confusion.

I believe its the thieves world books is it not that has a band of warriors made up of partnered pair bonds?

"Klaatu barada nikto," is the command given to the robot from the old black and white movie "When the Earth Stood Still" (I think - the one with Michael Rennie as the benevolent Martian chap and his considerably less benevolent robot). So a reference within a reference.

Klaatu and Nikto are also the names of alien species in the star wars universe...well they appear in rotj anyway. Not sure if barada is in there.Ofcourse, im sure he got the names from the day the earth stood still.

I'd like to hear your view on the occupation of Tibet since you bring it up.

This will explain everything.

I think its very appropriate.I feel that we have the right to make informed decisions about the products we buy.Where other than paizos message boards should people dicuss paizos business practices? The decisions a company make should directly reflect on them.If a company makes the choice to outsource labor or have labor done in a region with less than acceptable labor practices we have a right to know that and make our choice whether or not to buy a product based on that if we choose.

The real legitamite queire is are you (we?) willing to pay and extra 10+ USD a month for Pathfinder. Are you?

Where did you get this number? You think thats how much more each issue cost to be printed in the US or did you simply pull this number out of your ass?

Here's my take on out-sourced manufacturing. It's pretty much our own fault.

The manufacturing industry in the U.S. is crippled by the fact that American workers expect ever-increasing wages for the same work. No matter how much money you pay someone in the U.S., he/she will almost immediately start whining for more.
Foreign companies don't seem to have this problem (I haven't worked directly with China, but I've worked with both Korean and Mexican companies). Workers work for considerably less over there. They have no concept of safety, don't get sick leave, and work as long as they need to to get the job done. For many of the plant-level workers I've spoken to, it's a point of pride.
If we cut wages, reduce paid leave and don't fret so much about triple-layer safety, then we can produce for less and perhaps start to be competitive on a global scale. But we're not going to do that. Until we do, more and more manufacturing is going to move outside of the U.S., and there's not a thing to be done about it.
If we're all willing to pay a lot more, then we can get our product from American workers. I'm sure that if everyone opted to pay $30 a month for Pathfinder, Paizo would happily find an American printer, and that'd be grand.
I'm not willing to pay any more than I have to, and I'm okay with some of my $$ going to China. Chinese workers have to feed their families too.
If the product is shoddily- built (and I'm not expecting that in the least), then I'll have something to complain about.

*sigh*

Are you actually suggesting that workers should be paid less and accept lower saftey standards. Then i suggest we start implementing that from the top down.Hell if we did that we could pay labor, skilled and un-skilled, more and products would still cost less.In my mind the people actually using their labor to produce a product are much more deserving of a lager part of the fruits of that labor than managment or the bigwigs who receive the majority.

Yes, chinese workers do have to feed their families and are therefore easy to opress.Like workers everywhere the "choice" is work for what you can or you and your children can starve. Its the same when workers try to use what limited means they have to improve pay and the work place.Starving children break strikes. That justifies nothing.Im not worried if i get a mini that has some lead paint on it.I am worried about people who are exposed to it all day at work though.

That said im sure i purchase products made in china and other places with standards id rather not support though i do try not to.Im not a fan of the standards in the US but i recognize that they are alot better than alot of other places.Things dont have to cost more for the consumer because a product is made locally if companies can accept a lower profit margin.I have no sources for this but id be willing to bet something made in china and sold in america is marked up astronomically.Mardi Gras:Made in China is a good documentary on the subject.

Disclaimer:This is not a rant about Paizo and i mean no offense to anyone.Nor is it aimed at stunty outside of the first sentance of my post. This is just a quick note on how i feel about free trade and the out sourcing of labor in general.

Robert. E. Howard was pen-pal with Edgar Rice Burroughs (Tarzan) and H.P. Lovecraft (Cthulhu). They shared a lot of their ideas with each other, giving and taking suggestions all the way up until Lovecraft committed suicide. As a result there’s a certain similarity of tone and “atmosphere” in most of their stuff. For Burroughs, you might not want the Tarzan stuff so his Barsoom novels might work.

Similarly:

Lin Carter’s Green Star books, his Lankar of Callisto, and his Thongor novels are all done is the Barsoom vein (if you like Barsoom you’ll probably enjoy the others as well.

Leigh Brackett’s Skaith books, though SciFi, have much the same feel.

Larry Niven’s Magic Goes Away and its follow-ups.

Kate Elliott’s Crown of Stars series.

Glen Cook’s Dread Empire and Black Company series might fit also.

HP Lovecraft died of cancer.Robert E Howard took his own life the previous year.

Also i would add John Normans Gor books. Not everyone may like them but they are very much in the vein of ERBs Barsoom stories and i think the first several at the least are quite engaging.Ofcourse i have a soft spot for the series since they were the first sci-fi/fantasy books i had read after finding them in a thrift store.

i believe age of conan:Hyborean adventures release next month.I played EQ1 and starwars galaxies but its been a while since ive played a mmo.the most enjoyment i had was with nwn on a good pw.I havent tried nwn2 but that is what interest me most currently besides age of conan.Actually looking now i see release dates for this month and march of next year so im not sure when age of conan is being released.not much help...sorry.

Hear, hear!

I've got bad news for you. At 3:12 p.m. Pacific Time, my ego became self-aware and escaped from the jar in which my disembodied brain is encased. It now has two missions:

1. Promote 4e above all else.
2. Kill Sarah Conner.

OMG!You're gleemax?!

heres a youtube link of some of the designers talking about 4e in a video that i assume was used at gencon tonight...

Herzog grips his bow firmly and draws a few deep breaths to help calm the excitment building within him.He looks at each of his comrades in turn and gives a satisfied nod."This is a good day",he mutters under his breath with a slight smile and pulls a small feather from a leather pouch hanging at his side and activates its magical properties.

Is the enhancement bonus in addition to the BAB and dmg listed or already accounted for? Also can i attack with my bow while the whip is attacking or do i have to concentrate on the whip?I am unsure of this but figured id play around with it anyways.

Awesome!Yeah...brenhams about an hour to houston....i bet maybe an hour and a half to your area.I figured if i just looked for a game closer to brenham it would be a few more years till i got to play again heh.Besides i drive almost an hour to college station every weekend to go to the flgs...i can just find a store in houston or where ever and kill two birds with one stone.Ill talk to my wife cause i know she really want to play.Anyhow, if you want to get a game going or if you have a game and want more players im willing to make the trip if not every sunday then perhaps every other sunday?Feel free to email me thrashtildeath at yahoo.

The walmart near my house doesnt have it.Ill have to hunt one down next weekend.Has anyone seen it at walmart or target?

Im looking for a game around the Brenham area or i can drive as far as Katy or College station even...hell, perhaps even austin or houston depending.Pretty much i can only make time on saturday or sunday, i would be hard pressed to make a friday night game.Im 31 and my wife is interested in playing aswell if someone in the area is looking for a couple of players.I prefer to game with people close to my age or older.Ive been playing d&d since the mid 80's but havent been able to the past few years and im looking to get back to it.I havent played in a 3.5 game before but i have the core books plus some and i am fairly familiar with the system.I promise to bring some snacks and ill lift the toilet seat when i use your restroom.

I had this awesome game back in the day.Anyone else remember this game?I have many fond memories of destroying my little sisters castle :).Aparently its been remade and has past my notice untill now!
