Form of the...Pseudodragon?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Is there a way to turn yourself into one of the “other” dragon type creatures? I mean, the Form of the Dragon spells work for Chromatic or Metallic, Form of the Alien Dragon for esoteric or outer dragons, Form of the Exotic Dragon for imperial or primal. That’s all well and good. But what if I want to become a pseudodragon and four around Korvosa with my little friends, or become a Dragon Turtle and screw with some pirates, etc etc? Is there a way to turn into one of the “other” dragon type creatures (short of a wish or miracle)?

Draconic Ally will create a loyal pseudodragon and then you could Magic Jar into it, I suppose.

Shadow dragon aspect turns you into a dragon without changing your size category. It's not quite a polymorph spell so you could stack it with reduce person if you want.

But yeah, if you need to turn into dragon turtles or whatever you need a new spell the way Paizo does it.

Love this concept. Add faerie dragon to that list. Not being sarcastic at all, I'm legitimately not sure, but, isn't that what Shapeshift or Polymorph self is for? I'm not super conversant with those types of spells, I usually just Druid Wildshape.

PF's shapechange gives you various other polymorph spells to work with but doesn't fill in dragon turtle-shaped gaps. Likewise wildshape. Polymorph self is a D&D 3.x (and earlier) spell not PF.

There is no spell in PF that lets you polymorph into whatever you want.

Polymorph spells that let you fully take the form of a creature: Size range in parentheses; D = diminuitive, T = tiny, S = small, M = medium, L = large, H = huge

Alter Self - humanoid (S-M)
Beast Shape - animal (D-H), magical beast (S-L)
Magical Beast Shape - magical beast (D-H)
Elemental Body - elemental (S-H)
Giant Form - humanoid w/ giant subtype (L-H)
Plant Shape - plant creature (S-H)
Monstrous Physique - monstrous humanoid (D-H)
Undead Anatomy - undead (D-H)
Vermin Shape - vermin (T-L)
Naga Shape - naga (L)
Fey Form - fey (D-H)
Ooze Form - ooze (S-H)
Form of the Dragon - chromatic or metallic dragon (M-H)
Form of the Alien Dragon - esoteric or outer dragon (M-H)
Form of the Exotic Dragon - imperial or primal dragon (M-H)
Infuse Self - aasimar, aphorite, duskwalker, fetchling, ganzi, ifrit, oread, shabti, suli, sylph, tiefling, or undine

Animal Shapes, Polymorph, Greater Polymorph, Shapechange, Baleful Polymorph, Share Shape, Adjustable Polymorph, Claim Identity, Assume Appearance, Shapechanger's Gift, and Greater Shapechanger's Gift imitate other polymorph spells, abnd thus don't allow any forms that the uses spells themself don't grant, too.

Wouldn't it just be easier to have one Form of the Dragon spell that just covered all dragons? Seriously, what is even the point of Form of the Alien Dragon? What sort of @$$hole does that? And why?

So, like, if the spell doesn't already exist... then wrap it into Form of the Dragon, and call it a day.

I absolutely love the idea of turning into a wee Faerie Dragon... literally would never see myself using Form of the Dragon for literally anything other than a Faerie Dragon or Pseudodragon... those seem super fun... turning into a "real" Dragon via a spell is otherwise not interesting to me.

Turning into a "real" Dragon via class features, where that is just what you are now, would be neat. Or a dragonesque race that could take feats to become a "real" Dragon that does NOT start off as a Kobold. Lol. I love Kobolds, but for entirely different reasons than what would ever make me want to play as a dtagon... in fact, I probably love Kobolds because they are pretty much the opposite of dragons.

I would want Form of the Dragon to include Faerie Dragons for the same reason I like Kobolds... all flavor, no possible power creep, just pure potential without the burden of expectation...

yes there is!

there is still polymorph any object.
this should let you change into ANY creature out there, but the duration changes depend on the difference between the starting form and the end result.

depending on how related you are to dragons (got draconic bloodline? you just went form +5 to +7 (from 12 hours to a week)

Another +2 to the duration factor if you have 11 or more int.
