More 3 part APs!

I'm pretty excited for Quest for the Frozen Flame. I've always been more of a novella man when it comes to literature, thinking a story shouldn't take any more space than it needs. 3 books is just a much more reasonable amount of space to fully flesh out your elevator pitch without having to resort to filler. With the critical reception of Abomination Vaults, I'm hyped to see if Fists of the Ruby Phoenix is of similar quality. If it is, the 3 part APs might become my standard written modules moving forward as a dm.

It will be interesting to see how the high level AP shakes out. My PF1 experience was the APs always dropped off at the end of book 3 or 4. The modules at that point become 500 room dungeons.

I love the 6-book APs personally, but also am excited for more 3-book APs because it's easier to convince newer GMs to run the shorter campaigns. Have they announced what Quest for the Frozen Flame will be about or where it is set? I saw a picture on reddit of a Magus wearing furs and leaning on a big spooky axe with a red flag hanging off of it, but I don't recognize the flag.

Also, if I have the timing right, Book of the Dead is set to come out right as that 3-part AP ends, meaning it comes out just in time for the AP that follows Quest for the Frozen Flame. Maybe a high-level AP about messing up Geb to go with it?

+1 to this, BIG improvement. I've been hoping this would be the case and it looks like the sales over the last year or so have been strong enough to encourage more to the same.

I wonder if/when we get levels beyond 20 we could see a year with one 3-parter and Paizo's first 9-parter. Incredibly unlikely, but fun to think about.

The Mammoth on the flag feels like a bit of a giveaway for the Realm of the Mammoth Lords :>

I’m veryyy curious to see what the hook is, because it’s a place on Golarion I have only thought about in order to make a thread saying “isn’t this kind of boring?”

I mean Erik Mona did confirm that Quest for the Frozen Flame is set in Realm of the Mammoth Lords on the paizocon opening stream :D So ye are right about that indeed

And hey, main reason why Mammoth Lords Realm is boring is that it has 0 content to it before this ap(I can't think of any adventure or book set there or even many characters from there). AKA finally something makes use of all the caveman potential woo x3

I’m always a little nervous at the chance this stumbles into tired old “savage barbarians” material.

I haven't seen any indication that Paizo does anything that feeds into negative or uninteresting tropes. Their writing has always seemed quite well-intentioned and rounded (within the word count limit).

I have full trust in Paizo to give amazing depth to the realm of Cimmerians (aka Kellids) and Crom (aka Gorum) ;-)

I like the idea of being able to stitch together singleton adventures and APs like these w/o the extraneous work of converting parts of a 6 part AP to work w/o the rest of it.

From the way the AP's developer described it on the KD interview it seems to be much less about savage barbarians and more about building a community while trying to survive in the wilderness.

Yep, it's about gathering a following and building a community as you wander the tundra in search of an ancient artifact. Your community, of course, involves megafauna. The touchstone is the film Quest for Flame.

It's a REALLY intriguing hook for a campaign.

I'm down for caveman time. Sounds like a good AP for rangers and barbarians....but then again I consider any game a good game for 2e rangers.

Back to original topic, I think a great strength of 3-parts APs is the high-level ones. So that you can play some builds that only really come into their own at higher level (like a master at identifying creatures through the Bestiary Scholar feat) without having to endure the low efficiency (and fun) of such a build at the lower levels.

Keeping a group of people together for 6 months instead of 1 year is also a good benefit. Even with close knit friends there's always a chance of real life messing up a weekly campaign and tanking it. Cut the runtime in half and you have that much more of a chance of seeing the finish line

Where can we see some of the artwork?
