I've been in a group that's been playing the Reign of Winter AP PBP here for a while now but we just lost our 2nd GM; I'd guess we were about two-thirds the way thru the 3rd book when our current GM felt he had to drop the game. We have 4 PCs that have been there from the beginning and others that joined near the beginning of Book 2...
We know it may be asking a lot but we've got a dedicated group that has role-played well together, not to mention for a long time, and we'd like to see this through. And if you can't commit to the rest of the AP but could perhaps get us to the end of book 3, that'd be awesome and much appreciated too (and perhaps I could GM some sessions for you in return); we could worry about the rest afterwards...
We've also been thinking and, if we can't find a GM to continue this AP, we'd like to keep the core group together...and if any GM is thinking on starting up an AP (any AP) and would like a group of PCs that RP well together, that'd be welcome too...
Thank you for your consideration...

Well, I *am* just now finishing my second time through the campaign, I might be willing to run it... I'll have to think it over, see if I have the time and energy for it. I'd definitely be interested in having something run for me in return, but I wouldn't make it a requirement for having me GM.
Thanks for your response and consideration, Almonihah, I appreciate it.
Yes, please take your time and think about it. And I'd be happy to run something for you in return, no worries...and might be able to run something for you even if you find you don't have the energy for it...

Hmmm... looking over the thread and everything, I'll probably want some time to refresh my memory on Artrosa and to read through what you've been through (since it's a rather complicated location). I'll be able to grab the copy of the module I have access to on Friday, but I'll probably want a couple of weekends to read and reread the relevant material. It looks like it's only been a week since your last GM bowed out, so that would give time to see if they respond to anything, too. Maybe I'll aim for the Saturday after next to be able to take over?
In turns of running something for me... how crazy of ideas are you comfortable with? Because I think a quick glance at my past campaigns will show you I like some really off-the-wall ideas. :D

That sounds great...and if you have any questions on anything we’ve been through, just drop me a line and I’ll do my best to clarify. We’ve pretty much covered the Maiden level and I think we’ve done a good bit of the Mother but not all...while I don’t think we’ve been in the Crone, the way Artrosa jumps you around, I’m not completely sure...
To give you an idea of what I’ve ran, aside from my AD&D (1e) tabletop days many moons ago, I’ve only GM’ed PFS (1e) scenarios/modules via PBP, around 20+ such games ranging from entry-level to seeker. As far as running something for you, I can try whatever you like...as long as I have some guidelines, I can give it a shot and I’ll do my best...
Thanks again!

As one of the players in the game, I'd like to thank you for considering taking things over! I love this character a lot and am very eager to keep playing her. And if Otha actually does end up running a separate game for you, you can count on me to be interested in joining the party!
It's probably too early to get into the nitty-gritty of how starting things up again would look, but I think a new GM should be entitled to have some narrative leeway to make a clean break and start things out at a convenient spot. I think as you look over the module, you should know you have my vote to jump to whatever place you need to and have a fresh start. I think our last GM was starting to lose interest and was going off-book for a lot of his adventure ideas over the last few months, which might complicate a resumption of the narrative. I also think that as his attention waned, he was prone to confusing some of the details about the NPCs and the backstory of what's happening in Artrosa. A reboot might give us a chance to straighten some of those elements out.
We should probably also be up front about the fact that we have at least one character that probably isn't coming back and a couple more that may be on the fence, but you can be sure at least four of us are still eager to continue. Once we get a solid headcount, you might feel that our fresh start will require a new PC or two as well. I'm certainly ok with that as well.
Otha and I have been in this AP from Day 1. If you have any questions for us about any of the details, I'm happy to discuss them. Obviously there's a lot of character interactions and events that have influenced the game arc up to this point, and I know that if I were in the shoes of the prospective GM, that might be the part I would find most intimidating. Use us as a resource if it will help you in any way.

Let's see, questions questions (these are for both of you)...
* Do you know which characters will be sticking around, roughly? I usually aim for four, I don't like large groups.
* Do you have a copy of the map for Artrosa that shows where you've explored already? That would help me catch up on what you've done and decide what to do about continuing the plot.
* What are a few of your favorite moments in the campaign thus far?
* Speaking of the plot, why in your view are you in Artrosa?
As for running something for me, let me get my list. :D Okay I don't have a list, but I do have a number of ideas I've kicked around in my head that I'd love to be able to play. Here's a brief synopsis of several, let me know which one(s) you'd find most interesting to run:
* A campaign where the PC's are familiars and/or animal companions that have somehow been awakened and separated from their "masters", and now need to rescue them/continue their mission.
* A campaign where one of the PC's is kind of a mentor figure to the others, starting out stronger than them but gradually falling behind them in terms of power.
* "Monster Kingmaker", basically playing Kingmaker but with a party of monsters trying to carve out a place for creatures who are willing to cooperate but not welcome in most 'civilized' places can live.
* An episodic campaign where there's one character who travels from place to place, joining up with locals to help solve their problems then traveling on alone at the end of the 'episode'.
* I really liked the concept behind this campaign, where the PC's were gestalt vigilantes more-or-less operating like superheroes trying to help the downtrodden in Magnimar. I'd like to try something like that again.
* If you're comfortable with Starfinder, I have an idea or two about how to do an adventure that feels kind of like a Metroid game.
Obviously these are all rather outside the usual bounds of a Pathfinder (or Starfinder) campaign. If they all seem a bit too out there, I have plenty of strange character ideas that I'd be happy to play in a less out-there campaign, too.

Figured I’d post under my PC’s avatar
* Do you know which characters will be sticking around, roughly? I usually aim for four, I don't like large groups.
Our last GM had us running it with 7 deep into this book; but Tezuzu stopped posting back in January and that’s the character that Quasit mentioned above. As for those sticking around, when the GM left over a week ago, the other four players also expressed an interest in continuing but I’ll double-check; Quasit may have some more insight on that. On a separate note, Quasit, Fin, Maka, and Sakitu have been the most consistent posters...
* Do you have a copy of the map for Artrosa that shows where you've explored already? That would help me catch up on what you've done and decide what to do about continuing the plot.
Dang, just noticed...looks like our previous GM either deleted the map files or blocked our access to them. I can tell you we completely explored all of the Maiden; it’ll take me a bit, but I can go back and tell you what was in the rooms in the Mother that we’ve been in, if that’d help...
* What are a few of your favorite moments in the campaign thus far?
Not in any particular order...
1. Early in Book 1 our party almost suffered a TPK; with four of us knocked out in a building full of zombies, Bulvi & Fin formed a bottleneck on stairs to hold off the horde. Bull slashing with his sword & Fin alternating between firing arrows over Bull’s head & healing Bull. We barely beat ‘em and were able to revive 3 of the 4 but, sadly one died...
2. At the end of Book 1, Fin and Quasit had a similar experience as above; with the others unconscious, they finished off the big boss in the tower along with an animated dragon statue of some kind...
3. I thought our entire time in Whitethrone during Book 2 was enjoyable and interesting...kinda undercover, several cool encounters, and Fin almost one-shotted a dragon...
4. Interacting with Baba Yaga’s Hut has been fun for me especially how it changes depending on location so there’s always something new.
5. That being said, many of my favorite moments have probably been the interactions/role-playing between the characters. In addition, it was very cool learning some of my companions’ backstory; Quasit posted several detailed background posts that were very interesting (she’s a good writer). That inspired Fin and Maka to follow suit...
* Speaking of the plot, why in your view are you in Artrosa?
It’s my understanding that we’re trying to find the next set of keys to activate Baba Yoga’s Hut; this will allow us to travel to the next location (wherever that may be) to continue our search for Baba Yaga. And we’re in a race with a group of evil Centaurs and Frost Giants to find the keys before they do. On a side mission, we were looking for a book that would free the hut’s guardian (Ratibor) that we kinda befriended; we recently found that in one the chambers in the Mother...

Hey Almonihah, got a GM I know to give me access to a blank map of the Mother he'd used in a previous campaign and copied it over to a file on my share drive to annotate it...
As I pretty much recalled the layouts of the rooms and the route we took, I went back and re-read some of the encounters and put text boxes on the map to give you a general idea of where we went and what we did. I blued out the areas we haven't been (I tried not to pay much attention to those areas, just long enough to cover 'em up). I just thought this would save you time and having to muddle through the maps and Gameplay thread to determine where we've been...
I think it's mostly accurate but Quasit can probably correct any miscues or add anything significant I missed...
And as far as maps go, I think that's it; as mentioned before, I'm pretty certain we covered all of the Maiden and I'm pretty sure we haven't been to the Crone, at least not so that I could tell...
If you have any questions or issues, just gimme a holler!
And yes, I'll probably bend your ear about some of your campaign ideas; I'm gonna read thru the campaign you linked this weekend...

![]() |

Yes, that map of the Mother looks accurate, and I would concur as to where we currently are.
If we continue on with the 4 of us, we will have:
Findurel--ranger/zen-archer (dps)
Quasit -- rogue (dps/face-person)
Sakitu--sorcerer (dps)
Maka -- kineticist/monk (dps)
What we do NOT have is any sort of healer/decurser aside from Monsieur Healing Wand, and we don't really have a knowledge person. Tezuzu was kinda filling those gaps for us with his shaman. I think we kinda need someone to cover those bases. As a rogue, I'd like someone else to be up there in melee with me too. I can stab pretty well, but I'm no tank.
I would echo Findurel's choices for salient moments in the campaign. The near-TPK in book one where we lost someone had a profound effect on my character, and the epic fight with the ice dragon statue in Irrisen was also a brutal/epic fight moment.
I also remember Quasit getting a -6 Con curse that she was carrying around for a couple weeks of game time, and that was fun to role-play. Basically she didn't even know she was cursed- she was just trudging through the snow feeling tired, sick and grumpy all the time. There have also been some rowdy in-between sessions where we have a day off to shop, or a night off to relax in a tavern where the party really has a chance to cut loose and just interact -- those feel like the moments when the energy in the players is highest. I personally love any moments or episodes where drama is high or where characters are really just cutting loose and it gives me a chance to write, think and feel creatively. And as Fin alluded, I've written a few sidebar episodes about Quasit's past to add to the narrative.
As for why we're in Artrosa, our overall goal is to find and free Baba Yaga so she can stop Queen Elvanna from covering the world in winter. We've commandeered the Dancing Hut but we've learned that keys are needed to 'pilot' it. The keys we had brought us to Iobaria, and some riddling ravens have basically told us we need to go to Artrosa to find the next set of keys that will continue us on the path to where Baba Yaga is held. Also, we are all getting a primer in the essence of womanhood.

Ah, that map does help! I've got a pretty clear picture of where you are and what you've done now. I'm kind of surprised you've been doing the statues 'in order', as both times I played we tended to criss-cross between them pretty frequently. :D
Hmmm... lacking a healer of any kind would definitely be a problem. We may need to recruit a new one just so you can deal with some of the nastiness that's ahead.
You mentioned that Marislova is with you, have you decided what you're doing with her?
Almonihah wrote:I have more details and thoughts on all of the campaign ideas, if you want to ask about any of them.I'm not related to this PbP at all. Just want to throw out that I love all your ideas for campaigns.
Why thank you! This isn't even near all of them. :D I'm the guy who ran a campaign way back when where the PC's were all different heads on a hydra. I've also toyed with ideas like a 'reverse dungeon crawl' (PC's are monsters fighting their way up through a horde of adventurers invading their dungeon) and did a campaign where the PC's were dragons that conquered the world back in college. My appetite for campaigns outside the stereotypical is near-boundless. :D

![]() |

You mentioned that Marislova is with you, have you decided what you're doing with her?
At the moment she's just been quietly tagging along, looking for her lover. I don't think we quite knew what to do with her, but we didn't feel we could just leave her imprisoned in here with a bunch of witches and monsters and demon-worshippers running around. I think we hoped we could effect some kind of reconciliation with her witch-lover, if we ran into her. If not, we'd probably just help get her out of this place.

Almonihah |

Looks like you're all level 8 right now? I might need to bump that up if I'm remembering correctly... I'll have to check when I grab the module. Had you been doing milestone-style leveling or counting XP?
Should I have mentioned that I was briefly in an all-familiars campaign? :D

![]() |

I'm not exactly sure how our previous two GMs tracked our advancement. I think the first one counted XP more and our second one just allowed us to advance in level at certain milestones of the AP. But I could be wrong. I feel like we've been at an appropriate level to deal with the things we've encountered so far.

Cool, another level of Zen Archer would be good for Fin...
Besides Quasit and Fin, Maka, Sakitu, & Bulvi have responded & re-confirmed their interest in continuing. Selena has not responded to that post as of today (I posted 3 days ago)...
I’ve got an idea for a campaign for you, Almonihah...let me do a little more checking and I’ll run it by you tomorrow to see what you think...

![]() |

Almonihah, have you ever played a 3PP campaign called Way of the Wicked: Knot of Thorns? The players play evil characters working together with an evil boss to thwart the forces of Good on an island nation about the size of England. Looking at one of your campaign ideas mentioned playing monsters as opposed to adventurers so I though this might appeal to you, if you haven’t already played it...and it’s definitely outside the bounds of a standard Pathfinder campaign...
It uses Pathfinder 1e rules and it takes PCs to 6th level, I believe...it can be played as a standalone or as the first part of a series. And you mentioned having some alternative character ideas and I could give some leeway with that...
I thought this might be a good alternative as I do better as GM if I have a solid storyline to follow and that’s more in my comfort zone. I also like to role play my NPCs and this looks like a good role playing scenario, especially from the other side...
It also got very good reviews...let me know if you think that’ll work for you...
Here’s a link below that gives kind of a summary:

Almonihah |

Eh... I've actually tried Way of the Wicked for a little bit. I'm afraid I've found that I just really can't enjoy playing a genuinely evil character. Misunderstood I can do, neutral hungry I can do, how-dare-you-invade-my-home I can do, but genuinely evil? Nope, not fun to me. And from what I know of the campaign, following the plot requires a definitely evil character, the sort who would hurt a kingdom over a personal slight and stop at nothing to be on top. That's a type of character I've found I just can't play.
That said, if you think you can adapt it (or another campaign) to be more to my tastes, that might work. So if you think you could adapt Way of the Wicked to require less actual evil, I could probably work with that. Though I'll be honest, it'd probably be hard to make Way of the Wicked less evil--adaptation like that would probably be easier to do on another campaign.

I thought the evil game sounded fun. :)
Lo, many years ago, I ran a home campaign for 4th edition D&D where characters were evil PCs in War of the Roses era England working for the Yorkists to overthrow good king Henry. I think we got to about level 8 or 9 before the limitations of 4e began frustrating me too much to continue, but the story was a blast.
I also ran an email campaign set in the Forgotten Realms where the PCs were working for an evil secret society called The Crimson Dancer that operated out of the Vilhon Reach. That was delightful too.

![]() |

Aye, Q, maybe I can run it some time later. Thought it might be neat to see things from the other side’s eyes. Kinda reminded me of Jacqueline Cary’s book(s), The Sundered; if you’re unfamiliar with that work, she turned the Lord of the Rings upside down. You see the same type of story, but mostly thru the eyes of a Sauron-like dude, his chief lieutenant (think Witch-King), and some Orc-like creatures...and the bad guys don’t seem to be all that bad...and the good guys, to include a Wizard much like Gandalf, don’t seem to be all that good. It was a good read and I found myself pulling for the bad guys...
Oh, I would’ve loved your War of the Roses campaign...I’ve got a background in military history and I’m interested in that era...sounds like a lot of fun. The e-mail campaign sounds interesting...the only game I’ve ever played via e-mail was Diplomacy...
Almonihah, I’m looking thru some other stuff to see if I can adapt it to some of your ideas above...

Edelsmirge |

Hey although you are all working through your setting up the group phase I am a dedicated poster and have played a ton o healers of various sorts and could certainly play a more tank like healer such as a paladin to get into melee. Really I would be happy to play anything in a consistent well played group. I have been regularly playing several games since 2015 in play by post so no fly by night here.

![]() |

Have you met someone named Jadrenka yet? If so, what was your interaction with them like?
I think Jadrenka is the name of Marislova's lover, so we have not *officially* met her yet.
HOWEVER, I think our previous GM may have been confusing a witch/hag named Caigrel with Jadrenka in some places. We ran into a authority figure type lady in the Maiden who gave us a Key -- we encountered her in a place that appeared to be a pleasant field where she was standing with a cow. We talked nice to her, told her why we were there and she rewarded us with a key and some cryptic words. After she gave us the key, she vanished and the cow became a gorgon. She was identified to us as Caigrel, but she looked different from another witch type named Caigrel who we encountered in a fight with a Satyr -- there she seemed to be a hag who was trying to trick us with a damsel in distress routine. I think she eventually turned invisible and disappeared. The GM admitted at the time that he had trouble keeping the names straight.
We also ran into a couple of hag types in the Mother who were not named -- they were assisting a Witchfire with some sort of coven ritual, it seemed. One appeared as a pregnant lady and the other was 'matronly'. We wondered at the time if one of them was Caigrel or Jadrenka, but never got a good answer. Instead we got a strange diversion where we were teleported into a blocked off prison cell hallway somewhere in the dungeon and had to diddle around with figuring out how to get back on track. This was when our GM was really losing interest in the AP.

![]() |

Aye, Quasit is spot on...and, if I recall correctly, in the encounter with the Maiden and the cow Q mentioned above, the GM initially said that we recognized her as Jadrenka...when we reminded him that we hadn’t met anyone called Jadrenka yet, he mentioned that we recognized her as Caigreal instead...

No rush!
I think I've got a fairly good grasp on where you are and what's going on in your game now. I'm thinking I may have your shaman stick around as an NPC until you finish Artrosa to avoid the awkwardness of suddenly changing companions mid-dungeon, then see about getting you a different healer.

![]() |

Thanks, keeping him as an NPC, for the time being, would be much appreciated by all of us, I’m sure. We’ve relied on Tez for healing since he joined us...and he was a fairly regular poster till early this year (he stopped posting in January). He kept Fin from dying at least once...
On another note, would you like to ‘meet’ the other players that confirmed wanting to continue (Selena still hasn’t responded to my last post)? I can send them the link to this thread, if you wish...

Bulvi |

Hi I'm Bulvi the party's speed bump, he rarely goes down in a fight but I think it's happened once. He's been there for the start and given how many near TPKs we've had that's saying something. Bulvi's not the hardest hitting member of the party but is pretty reliable and has a few odd tricks up his sleeve.
He's pretty resolute and determined which I've reflected mechanically with his emotional support sword advanced weapon training armed bravery as well as Iron Will and Unimpeachable Honour feats. I don't think anyone has tried to mind control him yet which I wont complain about.
I think a lot of people in the party look at him like a big brother type. Sakitu sometimes moves behind him in tense situations. He'll move towards danger but generally not overly recklessly when he can help it. He's a guardian style of fighter rather than someone seeking bloodlust or glory. He'll quite happily take a diplomatic resolution to a fight if someone can manage to swing that... or sneaking past.
I'm not the most active poster in the game. Life's gone a bit wibbly and I've had to really cut back on my PBPs. This is the only one I'm playing in and I'm wrapping up two campaigns nearing their end (doing Book Six of Rise of the Runelords).

![]() |

Also, do we know how to transfer control of the game from Lareg if he's not checking in any more?
I think so; I haven't done it before but the link below explains the process (pertinent info below the link):
Did you inherit a play-by-post?
If you are the GM for a play-by-post campaign but didn't start the thread, please email: customer.service@paizo.com.
We need:
A link to your profile page (click on your name at the top where it says "Welcome, your name!")
A link to the gameplay and discussion threads for the campaigns you have inherited.
Just copy and paste these links from the address bar in your browser, please.

Sakitu here. As mentioned already, I'm one of the group that was here from the beginning. I'm so glad that you will (most likely) be able to pick up the reins for our game.
When I think back to our game over the last few years (7/26/17 was the first posting in the gameplay thread!) there are a few things that stick out to me.
That first encounter when we lost one of our party members was memorable. Kind of like jumping into the deep end of a freezing cold pool.
The friendship with Quasit and Sakitu has been a highlight for me too. Sakitu is a bit naïve and out of her element on this adventure. She left (ran-away, kind of) from home seeking adventure but things have turned out a lot more serious than she expected. When things become too overwhelming, Sakitu finds comfort with Quasit.
I still chuckle at the "honey rabbit". This still affects her relationship with Bulvi.
I like Sakitu's confusion about Maka. She really likes her but she is sooooo different and unconventional. There's a part of Sakitu that tentatively plays with the idea of living vicariously through Maka's actions.
Sakitu is a little awestruck by Fin. In her mind, he exudes the strong loner vibe tinged with a not a little exotic due to being an elf. Of course most people would say that kitsune is exotic but for Sakitu, that's normal.
There are more things I could mention. Mostly about the characters. To be honest, for the last little while I've had a hard time following the story and what's going on so that part has been a little bit on auto-pilot. I don't think it's for a lack of trying.
I am so looking forward to seeing how you, new GM, keep us going. Very excited to jump back into the story.

Maka Na'Shota |

Maka here, the party's resident firebender. While usually happy and friendly, she has quite the temper. Though her temper is almost always towards her foes and fire proof problems. Unless she is hungry, then she's grumpy with everyone. I like to think of her like a 150lb dog. Sure, she is sweet, cuddly, and loyal to a fault, but she is rambunctious and frankly a lot to deal.
I've had a lot of fun playing around with Maka's abilities and cultural background. Her abilities have been fun both for fluff and mechanics. Being a walking bonfire with cold resistance 7 has let me tell the snow and cold to pound sand, as well as the plentiful foes with fire weakness. More than that though, it's allowed me to RP keeping the party warm and comfortable as well as allow us to have a pet crocodile in a snow setting. It's also a lot of fun having a character whose only 2 solutions to problems are to befriend them or blast them with fire, because neither of them are good solutions to the witch problems. Who, of course, are jerks who also won't fight her.
Maka hails from Jalmeray, and was raised in a monastery. Though it was more of a magical hippy commune than the traditional monastery. She grew up with a wide array of classes and races, giving her a very accepting nature. She is omnisexual and polyamorous. Her polyamory and lack of understanding of the Inner Sea's traditional romantic relationships has led to problems in the past. However her relationship with Bulvi has improved her understanding and ability to communicate goals and needs.
One of favorite part of the game is the party interactions. We've had a lot of really good role play moments with opportunities to expand and call back those moments. The party honestly feels close and not just a group of mecernaires with a shared goal. Without any exaggeration, Maka views the party as family. This was also one of the things that has made the dungeon so much of a crawl. There is only so much RP you can do while actively dealing with a death dungeon.
Maka loves Quasit like a sister, and she is the one Maka looked to for leadership even before Quasit was officially made the leader. Quasit's lack of confidence is befuddling to Maka, who views Quasit as one of the most amazing people she has ever met.
Maka similarly loves Sakitu as a sister. Though Maka views her as far from helpless, she doesn't think Saki is suited for the dangers they are facing and is thusly very protective of her. However, Saki's nature not being suited to the situation is also why Maka thinks Saki is the bravest person in the party.
Bulvi and Maka are in a non-exclusive romantic relationship. Maka was initially attracted to Bulvi's skill in combat, but came to love him for his good and stalwart nature, as well as his understanding and acceptance of their cultural and sexual differences.
I've been trying to think of how to phrase Fin's and Maka's relationship, and I can't think of anything better than "bros". They initially bonded over their shared love of baths. Soon after beginning to train together and formed a casual sexual relationship.
Maka views Tez as the party dad, and has said exactly as much. She values his knowledge and wisdom, but also feels he can be a bit of a stick in the mud.
If Maka is a 150lb dog then Selena is the 10lb cat the dog is terrified of.
Very much looking forward to seeing this game get back off the ground.

Maka Na'Shota wrote:This was also one of the things that has made the dungeon so much of a crawl. There is only so much RP you can do while actively dealing with a death dungeon.I feel like this module was the weakest in the AP. Don't worry, it gets better after this.
That's good to know. The early part of this book was good; exploring Baba Yaga's hut, the time at the Centaur camp/Centaur town, and the journey to Artrosa. The first part of Artrosa was interesting but it became kind of a slog as things slowed down a bit for us and, as Maka said, there wasn't as many opportunities for RP as before. Not sure if this was due more to the GM losing interest or that dungeon crawls can tend to drag in PBP...
In comparison, I enjoyed the first book as it had several memorable encounters, but it was literally a killer; as Bull mentioned above, we had several near TPKs and had two character deaths along player turnover. However, I think among those of us that persisted, there was a definite sense of accomplishment in completing it...
I felt the second book was very solid as infiltrating Whitethrone made for intriguing and interesting times; we did have one character death (by an animated stove, no less) in that book but Selena was reincarnated. For me, the role-playing element really started to pick up there. This was my first AP and I hadn't been playing Pathfinder PBP that long when it started...so I was still feeling out the roleplaying element, especially in a PBP environment. I played Fin as very aloof and distant throughout the first book as a result; adding another colorful character like Maka in book 2 to go along with Quasit triggered more RP and helped me bring Fin out of his shell.
