Lost Omens: Mwangi Expanse is a book I'm looking forward to a great deal, and I'm hoping it does well with folks and prompts more campaigns in the region. The six new Ancestries are all on the stranger side of things (Gnolls, Anadi, Grippli, Conrasu, Shisk, Goloma), and there's also regional cultures for Orcs and all the Core Ancestries that we currently have relatively scant info on across 1e and 2e sources.
I'd love to hear character ideas folks feel inspired about!

These might change because there are sure to be things I don't know about that will catch my attention once they do come out, but right now?
1) A Vidrian human born Champion of mixed heritage sworn to Shelyn. Think Trevor Noah's 'Born a Crime' only he's found Religion instead of the funny :) He has High ideals and high expectations for his young country
2) An Anadi hoping to attend the Magaambye Academy despite the fact he's an introvert by nature he's also eager to see things in the outside world. He finds non Anadi cultures mystifying but fascinating.
3) A catfolk bard who dreams of composing a thousand and one songs inspired by a hundred and one adventures! He also hopes to save up enough coin so that when he finally finds a place to settle (Something frowned until one is older) he will be able to buy a feasthall and inn

Mkombozi (Alijae Elf Witch and Worshiper of the Redeemer Queen)
- a silver-tongued elven witch that seeks to spread the "corruption" of his God Queen and cause Demons to stray from the Abyss and into the light.
Mask of Dancing Spears (Matanji Orc Wizard and eventual Magaambyan attendant)
- Orcish Conjurer, scholar, and student of the Magaambyan Tradition and as culturally suitable demon hunter.
Bone Orchid's Whisper (Great Gnoll Bones Oracle)
- Great Gnoll Healer and speaker for the ancestors.
Asehngo (Song'o Halfling Champion of Balumbdar)
- Small but Mighty defender of the tiny and timid or Giant and Gentle, and Song'O stick fighter.
Okori Vertis (Vidric Human Swashbuckler)
- worshiper of Lubaiko and Milani and itinerate Rebel (waiting for guns for this one I think)
Irekyo (Bekyar Human Diabolic Sorcerer and Healer)
- A rigid and traditionalist man but secretly kind healer that bears the weight and duty his ancestors incurred during earthfall with a resigned sense of fate.
K'ch'irpi ( Sharp Tongue Grippli Pantheonic Cleric of Gozreh and Erastil)
- Wandering Shaman of the natural force embodied by a Mix of Nature and Community, he gains power from his worship of both his gods with Gozreh being his primary patron. Chirp travels the expanse teaching how to live in balance with nature while still creating communities

Saynak (LN Bekyar Human, Scholar, Empiricism Investigator, Archeologist)
Somewhat of an outcast, Saynak questions whether their people truly adhere to the terms of their ancient contract with Mephistopheles (as the legend proclaims), or whether they have been wrong about it all this time - of course, finding information on this subject is no easy matter, and neither is the rejection that they face from their more traditionalist kin, who perceive them as though they're attempting to undermine and uproot the foundations of Bekyar culture, possibly even attracting the ire of the Crimson Son for daring interfere with some terms of the pact that not even Saynak is aware of...

Ilomo Homebound (LG Kallijae Whisper Elf, Guard, Sparkling Targe Magus): Wandering elven bodyguard who readily declines clients of amoral dispositions. They seek to protect people who wish good things for the world, hoping to protect people as a mobile sanctuary.
Dekra, "The Free Queen" (CG Vidric Versatile Human, Insurgent, Sovereign Wyrmblessed Sorcerer): Born a slave on a pirate ship, Dekra broke the chains that bound her when the captain tried to flee the revolutionaries and tore his flag into three pieces, which she now wears in her hair. She calls herself "The Free Queen" because she has no subjects and no master, so she is free of the chains that bound her and bears no chains to others.
Humozu (NG Idyllkin Aasimar Goloma, Field Medic, Leaf Druid, Herbalist Dedication): Fox-furred goloma with a gift for medicine who uses herbal remedies to keep their allies safe.
Nalko Vori (LG Ekujae Tiefling Elf, Fury Barbarian, Paladin of Chohar Dedication): Demon-loathing berserker with backswept - almost draconic - horns and golden markings on her skin. She hates what demons have done to her people and loathes cultists of Dahak more, protecting those who are preyed upon by such evils so they can protect themselves later.

Zenzele (NG Mbe'ke Spellscale Kobold / Emissary / Dragon Instinct Barbarian): A fourth-generation kobold living in the Mbe'ke capital of Cloudspire, Zenzele's vivid blue scales were a sign of clear import from the day she hatched. Born into a fellowship of diplomats, Zenzele spent much time far from Cloudspire, either meeting with cloud dragon allies or the distant peoples of the Expanse, and become a bodyguard when she came of age in order to continue the work; many are surprised to see a well-armed kobold accompany a party of dwarven envoys, and doubly so when she flawlessly speaks the local language. Her "rages" are a state of enhanced focus and great bodily strain, with lightning licking her weapons and sometimes spewing forth from her mouth in great torrents.

Kadiri (Alijae Seer Elf / Dreamer of the Verdant Moon* / Precision Ranger): Kadiri was the sole survivor of a brutal hunt by followers of the Ravener King that claimed both of their parents and the small party they were traveling with; their frantic, bloody flight seemed doomed until a Matanji band drove the cultists off. Even as young as they were, Kadiri understood that the Alijae way was to fall in battle against fiends and their servants, and so tried not to grieve, but their trauma was immense, and they blamed themself for not saving the others. The orcs offered an outlet for that shame with intense training, and now they consider the Matanji closer family than any living elves, though they've never forgotten their true fate lies in Nagisa.
Kadiri has come to worship Majagua/Kazutal as a result of their time with the devout orcs, and wears a small jade icon of hers around their neck at all times. (When 2e gets an Inquisitor, they would likely be one of those devoted to her, rather than a Ranger).
*This Background refers to Zevgavizeb, but I would assume any table with a heart would allow me to swap it over to Angazhan.

Gentle Yam (Sweetbreath Kholo / Fortune Teller / Life Oracle): Yam lacked the brutality needed to prosper in the clan of her birth, and was only tolerated by the bonekeeper she apprenticed under because of her obvious talents; the "gentle" appellation to her name was an insult. Her exile was basically a foregone conclusion, and so it bothered her little when it came, taking to wandering the Mwangi with a wide smile and an easy laugh. She's intrigued by the new vision for her people that the warlord Gold Beetle espouses, and has seen how the folk of Nantambu gladly rub shoulders with other kholo, but still her restless paws call to her, driving her to travel and heal as the spirits demand.

Is kholo an alternate term or endonym for gnolls introduced in the book or is it an ethnic group specific to the Mwangi Expanse?

Uvalo (Ganzi Conrasu/Bounty Hunter/Neutral/C. Cleric of Kalekut)
When Uvalo self-actualized it was while being under the subtle influence of the Maelstrom; this influence was also felt upon their tree which grew not bark, but sickly yellow scales. Despite looking more like an aberration than anything and a weakened connection to the aeons, Uvalo took to the role of corrector with gusto. When attempting to avert an attack by cultists of Angazhan, Uvalo caught a glimpse of the god Kalekut and, through him, survived. Now, Uvalo follows the path of a nightmare, stalking the wicked to help bring balance to the world.
Deathwish (Frightful Goloma/Gladiator/CN/Braggart Swashbuckler)
It's hard to say where Deathwish came from; she's always telling a different story and it's not like many care about that. Always ready for a fight to put on a show, Deathwish is as dangerous as she is reckless. Under all that bravado though, whose to say what's really going on? Why is she so willing to run headfirst into danger?
Cloudberry (Sylph Leshy/Acolyte/CG/Wyrmblessed {Cloud} Sorcerer)
A former familiar of a druidic Cloud Dragon, Cloudberry has set off into the world on their own with wide-eyed curiosity. So many new places to see and friends to meet. There's a gentle breezing blowing toward adventure!

Iranti (Duskwalker Human / Returned / Psychopomp Bloodline Sorcerer) became aware of their own existence on the outskirts of Holy Xatramba, the ruins echoing with a deep sadness to their ageless eyes. They feel a profound pull to the faith of Pharasma, their deathless existence an apparent sign of some divine task - but what does she want of them?
Kuubezu (Frightful Goloma / Scavenger / Cleric of Kalekot) suffered an abundance of her god's blessings, making her kin uneasy from an early age; her task to venture forth and study the broader Mwangi for her people is part exile and part pilgrimage, taken to with silent dignity.
(Another character who I think works better as an Inquisitor, sadly!)

Kyagaza (Vidric Versatile Human / Martial Disciple / Fencer Swashbuckler) grew up under Sargavan rule, an only child to parents who feared for their daughter's safety; they scraped together ever bit of coin they could to enroll their daughter in a Chelish-style dueling class, so that she could learn to defend herself. Her tutor was haughty and cruel, delighting in both pitting his students against one another and dealing them superficial wounds sure to scar - until she caught him across the cheek with the tip of her rapier one day. Neither wanted their clash to end there, but outsiders intervened, and he quietly vanished one day in the chaos of the revolution that followed soon after. Kyagaza threw herself into rebel efforts and delighted in seeing her people freed, but she loses sleep knowing her old master is still out there somewhere.
The young Vidric woman takes a deep pleasure in not only turning a Chelish fighting style against its colonial originators, but excelling at the form when compared to them; Kyagaza is not above boasts and taunts in a fight, and adores having an audience when she performs with her gleaming blade. She's recently incorporated a loud prayer to Lubaiko into her style, but lacks any real faith in the goddess - so far.

I've wanted to make a protection domain cleric of Kazutal since I picked up Gods and Magic. But now I'm so keen on a character from the Mwangi that I've been torn. With the Demon Bringers Pantheon that the team just released I don't have to choose! Kazutal/Majagua for the win!
Could also always just make your cleric a Matanji orc?

Hoi
Curious few questions regarding the Matanji (first time using the forums so I don't know if this is the right place to ask it.) but I was curious about nomanclature regarding Wititanji or the Rainmakers, considering how 2E does ancestry would a elf-orc or dwarf-orc also be consider a wititanji or do they have a more specific word?
On the same line considering Matanji are demon hunters and eat demons would they have a higher rate of tieflings, and how would they be treated? Would be something like "Oh look at this one, not even walking yet and he already has a taste for demons!"
I feel like this is a question for Eleanor Ferron and Luis Loza (or whoever did the brunt of the Matanji writing) so if someone could pass this along to them I'd appriciate it I dig these mwangi orcs and city of nine-walls.

I don’t believe elf-orcs or dwarf-orcs exist in canon.

Though at least an elf or a dwarf or other race raised by the Matanji (and maybe using Adopted Ancestry) makes very logical sense; if they fight demons so much, finding a child of another race orphaned by said demons and adopting them probably happens, if not frequently, then enough to not stand out TOO much.

I have a Society character who is exactly this! She’s Alijae, but was adopted by Matanji.
