We Forgot What Balance Means: Weapons of Legacy

I thought I’d share some of the Weapons of Legacy I drew up for the Mythic, Gestalt, WoL game I run. Yes. Balance is a distant, vague concept. At best. But I thought I’d like to see what ya all thought of them. First up is The Last Word, a la Destiny! (For those who don’t know, a Weapon of Legacy is a ruleset that levels up with the wielder. Typically they have costs. Mine don’t. Whoops.) This particulat weapon goes up to Level 22, as I allowed the player to take the Mythic Ability “Legendary Item) to treat them as one level higher each time for the purpose of their WoL. Apologies for the formatting as I’m on mobile.

The Last Word
5th +1 Revolver, Aligned
6th +1 Fiery Revolver, Golden Gun 1/day
7th Lucky
8th +1 Fiery Revolver of Endless Ammo
9th High Caliber Rounds 1d10
10th +2 Fiery Revolver of Endless Ammo
11th Run Like Hell, Golden Gun 2/day
12th +2 Holy Revolver of Endless Ammo
13th High Caliber Rounds 2d6
14th +3 Holy Revolver of Endless Ammo
15th Out For Blood
16th +3 Holy Speed Revolver of Endless Ammo, Golden Gun 3/day
17th High Caliber Rounds 2d8
18th +4 Holy Speed Revolver of Endless Ammo
19th The Last Word
20th +5 Holy Speed Revolver of Endless Ammo
21st Golden Gun 4/day, High Caliber Rounds 3d6
22nd +5 Holy Power Speed Revolver of Endless Ammo

Aligned: The Last Word is a good aligned weapon.
Golden Gun: You may make an attack that behaves as a Vital Strike as a single attack in a full attack routine. You need not actually possess Vital Strike. At sixth level, this functions as Vital Strike, and as though you had a full BaB. At 11th level, this behaves as Improved Vital Strike at full BaB, and at 16th level, it behaves Greater Vital Strike.
Lucky: You may spend 1 grit point to avoid a misfire, or 2 grit to avoid both a misfire and a fumble. Your attack is still rolled at -5
Run Like Hell: You may spend a grit point to make a double move (as a move action) without provoking an attack of opportunity. Each point of grit you spend past the first increases your base speed by 10 feet for this movement
Out For Blood: You may spend 2 grit points to automatically confirm a critical hit.
The Last Word: Once per day as a standard action, you may make a single golden gun (even if you’ve otherwise expended all uses) attack against any target in eyesight. This attack ignores any cover (assuming the target can be seen), concealment less than total, range penalties (and indeed, this attack can be made more than 5 increments away), and targets touch AC. This attack can be made as an immediate action whenever you would be knocked unconscious or die, even if your body would be completely destroyed. When using The Last Word, you deal damage as though you had Supreme Vital Strike (from the Homebrew Pathfinder Epic Level Handbook) four times (allowing you to roll any additional damage from weapon qualities and apply damage bonuses four times.
Note: The Last Word’s Endless Ammunition quality is an exception to the rule that Firearms cannot possess this quality. Note that this quality only produces regular ammunition. The weapon may still be loaded with special ammunition.

So do you take whatever your Monster's health is and just multiply it by 10? How does any monster survive combat with Supreme Vital Strikes from already redonk weapons in your game?

So, first and foremost, the WoLs do NOT regen with an hour and a mythic point. Second of all, things aren’t supposed to be surviving The Last Word. It’s <i>THE</> Last Word. Third, these gloriously broken lunatics have been fighting Campaign Cappers since 5th level. We left balance and anything resembling sanity at the door a while ago.

nah, normally you just throw more at them. Fighting a couple ninjas is cool, fighting a million zillion ninjas is cooler.

I was also thinking absurd numbers that fall in waves each round as the Last Word pops heads with each shot... splat splat splat... and somewhere else someone has a Huge Greatsword that chops several targets in half with each swing... spellcasters dropping nukes from orbit... the Barbarian punches out the heart of the dragon, eats it, then swings its dead body around by its tail like a flail tripping the entire field of zombies...

Allow me to introduce you to conservation of ninjutsu which disagrees with that statement

one Ninja is a deadly threat, but an army of them are cannon fodder.

Not an entirely inaccurate description of what happens at time. Usually right before some awful thing comes and drops half of them before becoming paste itself. Basically the only thing “balancing” it is the fact that he only has three “small” goldies and one big one, and there’s usually some other nasty just around the corner.

Since this weapon most assuredly kills, I would name that weapon something like "Fluffy Wittle Bunny" or "Mr. Pookybear SnugglePants", so that any enemies you kill have to go their entire afterlife telling others what killed him.

(in hell)
BBEG1: "So... how'd you die?"

BBEG2: "I got killed by Fluffy Wittle Bunny."

BBEG1: *spits out his cold coffee* "You WhaT?! You got killed by a Fluffy Wittle Bunny!?! How!?!"

BBEG2: "I don't wanna talk about it."

(aeons later)
BBEG1: *points behind BBEG2's back and screams* "Hey! Look out! There's a Fluffy Wittle Bunny!"

BBEG2: "Yeah, that still wasn't funny the first 2,341,814,284,701,482 times either"

BBEG1: *rolling on floor hysterically*

Oh trust me, I'm well aware of CoN, but I didn't say the ninjas were themselves cooler or more dangerous, only that killing a million-zillion of them is cooler than just offing a handful.

I much prefer fights against a horde than a singular or fewer more powerful opponents.

OPs post reminds me of a greater rune weapon I made for a RIFTs character a long time ago; originally belonging to ole Scratch who lost it to a gunslinger after a duel ala Devil Went Down to Georgia

So what's to discuss here?

Like don't get me wrong, I like playing the superhero...but this is next level.

What else are you going to use when you are fighting a Mythic Fomorian Lich Titan with a pet Tarrasque on a chain?

*taking notes*

Fomorian, you say?

I don't know if you're taking suggestions, but I'd change Golden Gun to Named Bullet, Greater Named Bullet, and maybe Mythic Named Bullet (since mythic is a thing, though I don't think the mythic version is all that great).

Let the character take feats, SLAs are harder to get, and these seem more thematic

Also, Arrow Eruption would be pretty cool too, have it trigger x/day on a kill.

So the important thing here is that is doesn’t actually give the feat, but emulates it with a bit of extra to it (namely that it can be used as part of a full attack, and indeed, all can be used on a full attack.)

I love this title. Amazing.

Deflect Arrows...

or better yet, since balance is a bit relative and it would look really cool:
Snatch Arrows... have the bad guy slide the still glowing, golden bullet into his own gun, which he retrieves from glove of storing, and shoot the PC.

"Hmm... this bullet actually has... your name on it..."
