Willingly endangering other people (or doing so entirely out of ignorance and curiosity while knowing you're dealing with an alien and callous being) is still f*@+ed up.
It's like saying it's 100% okay to let a murderer into your house to kill your family because "Yeah well he would have broken in anyway".

This is an example of cosmic-scale indifference, something I can understand from reading comics like Silver Surfer, where morality as we've come to understand it isn't a factor in decision making. Which is why Zen-O has to seem childlike in nature, because that makes his decision to destroy the losing universes all the more horrific in our eyes.
But I do find it weird that the angels would be the only survivors of the destroyed universes. Given that we already know that Whis and Vados are the High Priest's children (and what's more, they didn't inform the gods of destruction that they served of this detail), it seems to me the High Priest has something shady up those sleeves of his and the angels are in on it.

Of course he didn't know. But you seem to be missing the point. Whether he had gone to Zen-O or not, Universes 2-4, 6, 7, and 9-11 were going to be destroyed anyway for not meeting the King of the Multi-Verses standards when it comes to the power levels of the individual universes (The home of our heroes, universe 7's ranking is only 3.18, coming in ahead of 9, which had a ranking 1.86. These are the lowest, by the way. By comparison, Universes 1, 5, 8, and 12 all have rankings of at least 7 or higher). Just like that, they would have been erased. Gone. No passing Go. No bargaining. One day there, the next poof. By going to Zen-O, the 8 Universes slated for destruction now have a chance to survive. They just have to fight for that survival. And while four will definitely be wiped from existence, it's better than all 8 (cosmically speaking).

I get that. No, from my understanding, this is different. They wouldn't just be dormant. Beerus and Champa's reaction to the announcement seemed to imply that. Which is why I suspect something else is going on.

On RWBY, I've felt that it's somewhat similar to SAO in that it has neat combat sequences, a good soundtrack, and a setting chock full of potential... that doesn't really live up to it. RWBY is better imo due to the character designs and worldbuilding effort, but that only makes it more painful when it falls short of my expectations.

On the other hand, I think RWBY is getting measurably better over time - it's definitely rough early on, but the latest stuff is like a completely different series. The fact that it's continuing to improve means I still have plenty of patience for it. XD

RWBY had a major shift in quality this season due to switching animation suites. TThey previously used Poser I think and season 4 they started using Maya. I think the animation quality im proved significantly when they switched.

True, the animation quality has improved, and I'm glad they've fleshed out the supporting cast more this season. However, a few things still irk me.
Firstly, there were too many concurrent plotlines this season that detracted from the narrative. Some shows with good writing can juggle all these plotlines, but I often felt that individual episodes should have been dedicated to one character or split between two of them rather than having scenes from four, or even five, separate plots per episode. Team RNJR (or JNRR? idk) had some good moments but there came a point when I was done with Jaune's angst. I liked Yang and Blake's plots, although I think Blake's could've used more screentime and some actual explanations. Weiss' was just, well, boring - just about everything that happened was predictable and it lacked any real tension or consequences. In the grand scheme of things, I don't think very much happened this season. Character development, sure, but largely just a return to the status quo. Ruby's character in particular was pretty neglected this season, and I'm not too happy about that. Furthermore, the writers don't seem to understand how to properly utilize tension. The end of the penultimate episode ratcheted it up, but come the final episode we wait until everyone else's plotlines are wrapped up to follow through which really weakens its effect.
Secondly, while the animation quality is improving, the setting quality... isn't. Backdrops still feel boring, continuity errors abound in the final fight, and if I have to see a generic textured floor in an otherwise detailed area one more time I will... do something. Maybe.[/rant]

I think that more had to do with the fallout from volume 3, which was definitely faster paced than this one. They needed to slow things down a bit. Hopefully it'll all come together much better in volume 5. As far as Jaune is concerned, Pyrrha was the "great love" of his young life. He had plenty of opportunity to enter into a relationship with her early, but was so focused on Weiss that he ignored her for 2 volumes and most of the 3rd. I don't know how many times I yelled at the screen for him to get with Pyrrha. I'm pretty sure we all did. And when he did, I'm pretty sure we all said with relief, "Finally!". However, it was too little, too late. If he hadn't been "angsty" when it came to her this volume, I'd have called the character an inhuman unfeeling monster. He feels her loss more keenly than the others because he blames himself just as much as he does the forces that took her from him. Been there, done that.

And that leads into my point about the pacing of Season 4 - it's still too fast. Sure, the main plot made no progress, but the plots and character arcs of this season are resolved too quickly - probably because we have six different plotlines running concurrently (Team RWBY, Oscar, and Salem's group) and only 3.5 hours to divide between them. Divided between them each plot had just 35 minutes of run time available, and every fight scene and exposition cut into that. Some shows can handle complex plots with little time, and while I can see hints of it in Ren and Nora's character arc and Jaune's training scene the writing quality is very inconsistent. Thus, the plots of this season were too rushed, despite the main plot being sidelined.

I'd say it had more to do with the varying levels of each character's relationship with her. Sure, Pyrrha was a good friend to the others, but it was Jaune she loved. In contrast, Jaune only saw her as a friend for most of the time they knew one another. It never occurred to him to think of her as anything else. And when it did... see my previous post. The others could more or less work through their feelings alone. Jaune needed more time to process and deal with it, something I don't think he's done with yet.

I haven't watched it yet, but I plan to. The early 2000s series was really good. It's one of the Adult Swim anime (along with Trigun and Full Metal AAlchemist) that got me into anime to begin with.

Let's just say my tastes run the gamut, but the harem approach started becoming tiresome around the Tenchi Muyo days for me. Frankly I am looking forward to the animated version of Blame, the second season of Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (which at least made the love triangle point far more adult and less grind my teeth), any continuation of Aldnoah Zero if it ever comes out (fat chance given the ending), and some other pieces. I rewatch too many old series and haven't found enough good new ones to commit to them yet.
Winter 2017 honorable mentions:
The "Screw having a Social or Romantic life; Imma gonna go and play with my Miniature Cat-girls" Award goes to Nyanko Days. Clocking in at a slim two minutes of cutesy feline-subject fun, this anime won't be taking up too much of your precious time.
The "When Your Draconic Maid literally wants to feed you her Tail" Award goes to Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid. Maids are now an in-thing again, thanks to Re:Zero with their teen-aged Ogre-Mage maid twins, and we get to see a cross-dimensional dragon trying her hand at domestic servitude (voluntary, most assuredly!) in the modern era.
The "Sweet Mustaches and Bureaucratic Procedures in an Alternate Modern-Style Reality" Award goes to ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept. via Funimation. Taking place in an alternate dimension where the main landmass looks very much like a bird-shape, there's intrigue and conspiracies to be found- plus awesome mustaches (on some of the cast).
Of course, there's an embarrassment of riches if you're searching for Fantasy-styled anime this season, whether it's from the second season of Tales of Zestiria the X, Chain Chronicle - The Light of Haecceitas - (in both Series and Movie versions), the second season of Konosuba, the series version of Little Witch Academia, Granblue Fantasy The Animation, The Ancient Magus' Bride, and many more.
I think one of the most frustrating things is when an otherwise good Anime series suddenly nose dives as it gets close to the end. Usually it's because the anime is ending before the Manga series dose so they have to make something up in order to close the TV series instead of just leaving it on a cliffhanger and telling people to go read the manga.
That's what is happening right now with Twin Star Exorcists. It's like they are going down a checklist of bad Cliches as they rush to the last episode.
It's all the worse having read the manga and knowing where they are supposed to go with the series is no where even close to where the anime decided to go
Oh, good. XD And a few more of the translated novels should be out by then, too, so it's going to be fun going into it knowing more...

And as for love triangles and harem tropes, it's simply a matter of preference. The Senpai noticed me, or the disturbing best girl style, continued coverage of teenage shut ins or the awkwardness of adolescence is becoming simply too thin after 40 or so years of watching the genre. SB 2199 Yamato's love triangle was at least done well with some sense to adults dealing with it, and didn't completely dominate the story in favor of the focus on three people.

Some thoughts on recent anime:
Mahoutsukai no Yome: Hoshi Matsu Hito
This is beautiful, like something Miyazaki might have done. Unfortunately, from what I watched of it, it seemed to fail at basic storytelling. I gave up fairly early on when it failed to establish any conflict quickly enough.

I am growing increasingly worried about the crumbling authority of wrestling referees. Wrestlers seem to be able to break rules with impunity. One wrestler in this series picked up a referee and used him as a club. He wasn't arrested, banned from wrestling, or even disqualified from the match.
Also, I was enjoying it more when it was about one man's struggle to avenge his mentor who was crippled in the ring. Somehow it turned into a show about one man's struggle to take revenge on the wrestlers who ate his friend's cake, or whatever the current episode is about.
Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon
Anime, why do you always have to be so... for example, why is the vast-chested Quetzalcoatl woman living with the young boy who keeps telling her to leave him alone? What does she want from him? Why can't she respect his boundaries? Why is everyone OK with this?
Youjo Senki
Probably the best show about a little girl with magical powers who might be the next Hitler fighting in an alternative-universe world war and getting into arguments with God.

The revenge plot has taken a sideline because he was duped by the big tournament. He got into this to take out Yellow Devil and to destroy GWM if possible.
Problem is, he took out a fake Yellow Devil and that trapped him in a contract...GWM is now using him to make more money and cement their Japanese audience.
None of the current fights are related to the revenge plot because he got screwed over by contract.

Imagine if half way through Lord of the Rings, Frodo started just hanging out with his friends and taking on minor adventuring quests to make some quick cash. Even if there's an in-story justification (he lost the ring and can't continue with his original quest until he finds it again), it would be pretty ruinous to the main plot.

That's...not a good analogy. This is sports, not a grand quest. This is exactly like what it is: An athlete doing what athletes do.
This is like getting mad at a football team because while they're on their quest to win the Superbowl they need to play all these other stupid teams first and do exhibition matches and commercials and charity events on the side.
If you want to put it in LotR terms though, what's happening right now is Frodo and co. made it to Mount Doom midway through The Two Towers and threw the ring in...only to realize it was a fake ring, and this was a fake Sauron, both destroyed. It's now been months with no sign of the threat. The orc armies have all but disappeared. The real Sauron (and his ring) are in the wind.
The heroes have no way of finding him, so while they wait for Gandalf to track him down or the evil baddie to show himself of his own accord, they settle into a routine of daily life.
This is the time in a story where you get character interaction and development, and get a sense of the charaters' personalities without a looming crisis. Which, let's face it, Tolkien didn't do much of.
Which is fine, because not every story needs to follow the same exact structure and keep the cast laser focused on their goal (particularly in this case, where in the grand scheme the stakes are nonexistent).
